Something is going on in Poland right now Everything I've read is confusing, to say the least, but it appears to be a coup attempt by leftists. You know, the people allied with Democrats in the US. I have a new theory on Tucker Carlson.

He's got a brain tumor. And it's affecting his brain and it's totally changed his personality and his belief system. I would beg his family, and anybody who loves him, to get him to a doctor and check for a brain tumor.

Not making it up. I think it's a definite possibility.

On one of the cafe posts, people were talking about a judge named Ada Brown. And people on Reddit were going "brain tumor."

That's what I was going to say. Requiring a psych exam is one thing, but it could very well be a brain tumor. I think we all have a story. For me it was a minister who performed my wedding. He was really a great guy. A couple years later he began acting very bizarre, including calling church members in the middle of the night and making inappropriate sexual comments. The church sent him packing. A couple years later he died and the family discovered through an autopsy that he had a huge brain tumor affecting his behavior.

It's possible that he's just completely flipped out and become a raging anti-Semite, when he showed zero signs of that before. But it's also possible, brain tumor. And they will discover it when he was dead.

I might be wrong. Maybe he just became a raging anti-Semite, and he wasn't one before. We all have free will. But if you love him, if you are his actual friends or family, I would beg you to take him to a doctor and check for a brain tumor. You can still function, but it messes up your brain. And you start acting really weird, in ways you didn't before.

It doesn't hurt to check. Just go to a doctor and look and see. I don't know the man. Just speculation from an outsider. But he's a public person, and this anti-Semitism that I'm seeing now, I didn't see a decade ago. It's out of the blue. I think he's having a medical issue. I'm serious. Not a doctor, maybe an MD might comment on this.

Mosby, when Rush sings, "I will choose free will."

For decades, I didn't understand that lyric. What do you mean, you will choose free will? God gave us free will. I didn't have a choice. I'm a human being, made by God, and he granted us free will. It's part of being human that you are innately free.

Free will is why God allows Hitler to exist. Free will is why God allows Satan to exist. God is a big fan of free will, and we are not stripped of our free will in the afterlife. Free will is a deep part of my ideology and my theology.

Anyway, Rush might be making some Spinoza commentary. Or the other guy, who says we need to choose free will. I had no idea that's what Rush was doing! Now I know.

PW, thanks so much for those links. This is my #1 movie of all time. It's so amazing, you don't even recognize that it's propaganda to get America into World War 2.

Hollywood was a master of propaganda films. Casablanca, Across the Pacific, Ninotchka. You compare the shit the Commies and the Nazis were producing, it's embarrassing. Seriously. Do not underestimate how brilliant these artists were. Completely engaged in the issues of their day, but with humor, romance, danger, love, the hero's journey, all that stuff that makes a story cool and fun.

Saint Croix ayon kay ...

My review of Stagecoach (1939)

This is a movie about war. Specifically it is an American movie about how we have enemies, and they are out there, and we need to be ready to fight. When you think about Ford you realize he is rather a serious artist. He does not make Stagecoach to entertain us. Although the movie is quite entertaining. The final attack on the stagecoach will blow your mind, even now, 70 years later. But Ford has, I think, a specific purpose in mind, to instruct us in 1939 that war is here, get ready.

The interesting thing about Ford is that he always humanizes his warriors. He does not try to impress us with how tough they are. John Wayne is John Wayne because he's John Wayne, but he is most obnoxiously John Wayne in other people's movies. In a Ford movie John Wayne is usually a bit more subdued. For instance, in Stagecoach Wayne is playing a virgin. And he's a virgin who's got a little innocent romance going on with the town whore. So even in 1939, in a movie prepping us for war, Ford stops and recognizes innocence. Wayne's character, the Ringo Kid, is meant to be a kid, a big overgrown child who's never been with a woman and has no idea what he is in for. So this is the warrior Ford chooses for us.

The Indians, of course, are the bad guys in Stagecoach. They are not a character so much as an ominous presence. There is no attempt to humanize them or to show their side. Which shouldn't surprise us. If Ford were making a movie attempting to humanize Nazis in 1939, what would we think? Ford doesn't demonize the Indians. He just shows them as the fierce warriors they are, and notes they are going on the warpath. "They want war with us," is, I think, Ford's point.

I wonder if anybody else has had this happen to their Inbox:

I got hit with a spam blizzard this morning, a bunch of emails requesting that I verify my email address / use 'this verification code', all from different vendors or providers, some from out of country. Some saying they were from big names, but email addresses obviously not reflecting that. About 40 of these messages, all different, blitzing my Inbox over about 2 minutes, early morning. Saint Croix ayon kay ...

HPL,

I'm using "propaganda" loosely to refer to movies Hollywood made. It's not government propaganda. We believe in free markets and free artists. The artists who escaped Communism and made Ninotchka were ripping a hole in Stalin's hide, in public, and it's glorious.

AI claims FDR did screen the film, in 1939. And he and others in the American government used it to to fight back against Communism when the war was over. AI's got a whole thing about it. I don't care enough to check and see if it's true.

Politicians are shitty artists and art critics. Their commitment is to their politics, not to art.

I saw a movie that was reportedly Churchill's favorite movie. It's #5291 in my movie book, which is not a high grade. That means that I think there are, at least, 5290 movies that are better than That Hamilton Woman (1941).

I saw this because it's supposedly Winston Churchill's favorite movie. You know why it's his favorite movie? Cause it's frickin' propaganda, that's why. He likes speeches about England. Woo-hoo, a speech about England. I'm dying for England. How many movies did Churchill watch, three?

That's the only anti-Churchill rant you're going to hear from me, by the way. I love the guy. But his art criticism sucks, big time. He was trying to, you know, win a war.

Serious English artists made A Matter of Life and Death, which is way, way, way, way, way better cinema. A+ all the way.

Serious question.

Would it be better for Republicans to shock, and keep the House and the Senate, and Trump pays out $5,000 to every adult citizen in the USA, as he pledged to do?

or

Would it be better for the Democrats to take the House.

Saint Croix ayon kay ...

For those Republicans who are wondering why the sneaky NYT might want to sabotage the Democrat Senate candidate in Alaska...

I have a couple of thoughts.

1) Peltola is not a socialist. On the political spectrum, she might be more moderate than the NYT newsroom. Allegedly, she was on a friendly basis with Sarah Palin. So while we might say "blue on blue fights are fun," you could argue this is the socialist mafia in New York City not giving a shit about a moderate Democrat losing in Alaska. They don't mind taking out somebody in the Democrat party because the DSA in the NYT newsroom wants to do the same.

2) Peltola fails the abortion test. This is (my opinion), the #1 rule in Democrat politics. "Thou Wilt Not Talk Shit About the Sacred Right to Abort Your Baby". They do not like pro-lifers in the NYT, or anywhere else in the liberal media. Peltola, of course, is hardly a pro-lifer. She's just one of these rough Alaskan women who talks shit about Planned Parenthood when they make her mad.

3) She's kind of like Graham Platner. Not one of these sweet feminist women who say all the nice words. More like she knows how to skewer a fish in the gills.

The NYT covered all of this in their earlier article.

Ms. Peltola also disparaged Planned Parenthood, particularly one of its regional board members. Running for re-election to the House in 2024, Ms. Peltola was frustrated about the organization’s scrutiny of her deliberations over how to vote on a defense bill that included anti-abortion policies.

“I hope Planned Parenthood knows that if we don’t win it’s more their loss than ours. FUCK THOSE BITCHES,” she later wrote in a text message to her staff in January 2024 that was viewed by The Times.

Later that year, Ms. Peltola, appearing to refer to a woman on the board of the local Planned Parenthood chapter, wrote in another text, “I hope she dies of a botched abortion.”

Planned Parenthood, whose political arm had endorsed Ms. Peltola’s previous campaigns, did not endorse her this year.

It would be non-stop.

But, since she's a woman, and a Democrat, the NYT just stuck it in a story, way below the fold, 18 paragraphs down, no biggie. Skip it if you want to. Nothing to see here. They completely buried this rather vicious tweet. "I hope she dies of a botched abortion."

I'm going to pick on Maine, because everybody else wants to jump on California or New York. Maine, that feminist paradise, where they can kill babies all the way up until birth.

No confusing judicial opinion that you have to read and interpret. Birth! You say it's fine to kill unborn children all the way until they are a citizen of the United States.

The analogy I would like to make, Maine, since you border with those dangerous Canadians, is an immigrant. A legal immigrant. The best kind! It's a little immigrant baby. And the government officials are having trouble, because the baby won't say the words to become a citizen. And the officials are turning pages, trying to solve this damn hypothetical.

That's when one of your crazy Maine feminists runs up to the immigrant baby and goes, stab stab stab. Because crazy feminists can do anything. Strangle the baby with her exercise beads. Whatever. This is a woman, oh, the lawyers will make her sympathetic. She will cry real tears. She lost her baby, and she didn't want this white Canadian baby to take her baby's place.

Anyway, the legal defense to this murder of an innocent baby, is that she's not a citizen of the United States. Because that's what birth is. Citizenship! So I ask you, Maine, in all seriousness, is it okay to stab that non-citizen baby?

I know what you're going to say. Location, location, location. We'll make our killer a real estate agent. And she's always chanting, "Location, location, location." It's her favorite thing to say. And we'll make her pregnant, too. Nine months pregnant, Maine! So now we got two babies in the hypothetical. We got the foreign baby, trying to become a citizen (and failing!). And now we got the unborn baby, about to be a citizen herself. Natural born.

And after the killer stabs the non-citizen immigrant baby, she stabs her own damn uterus and kills her non-citizen unborn baby. And she kills herself, too. It's a bloody fucking disgrace, Maine. A violent, crazy bloodbath, with two dead non-citizen babies. Plus the dead mom. She's a mom, Maine! Used to be.

Is this right, in any sense of the word? Is this sane? Do you really want to adjudicate this case?

"Suicide, fine, abortion 2 days before birth, fine, and one murder of a foreigner. That might be bad."

Graham Platner is shaking his head at you, Maine.

I wonder how many people recognize that Maine allows abortions all the way until birth? What's the level of ignorance on this? It's like the feminist media have invented a darkness flashlight, and they shine dark ignorance on crime scenes. This one, unfortunately, was not in a Planned Parenthood saintly abode. It was in a government building with cameras and shit.

I don't know, Maine. I don't know! Maybe this crime scene out to be clearly illegal. Maybe you ought to give some thought about whether abortion kills a baby, before you enact North Korea laws.

Why does it have to be birth? Why does it take a mom nine months to make up her mind? Where's Dad? Let's drag his ass into this. Why are you pretending no man was involved in this pregnancy?

Stop your one-party feminist insanity, Maine. Wake the fuck up to the violence your feminist leaders are legalizing. And thank you for your attention to this matter.

Basically by "turned looney" you mean angry that Trump lied to us to get our votes, then turned on us as soon as he was safely in power. Somebody turned looney. Hi Gospace and others, thanks for pointing out what's happening in Poland. It's certainly a serious constitutional confrontation, but the history matters. The dispute over Poland's Constitutional Tribunal dates back to contested judicial appointments in 2015, involving both the outgoing government and the incoming PiS majority. Tusk's government says it's trying to restore judicial independence, while opponents argue that the latest suspension of the Tribunal's leadership is unlawful. That legal question is worth a close look, no matter where we stand politically.

Brazil seems rather different. Both presidential campaigns, including Flávio Bolsonaro's, requested an extension of voting hours. Electoral court figures show that only about 34,400 votes were cast after the normal closing time, compared with Lula's winning margin of 4.43 million. That doesn't resolve every procedural question, but it makes it very difficult to argue that the extension changed the outcome.

I haven't seen evidence connecting the two controversies, much less evidence of a coordinated global effort.
