In June 2024, 5-year-old Dalilah Coleman of Bakersfield, California was badly hurt when a semi-truck caused a six-car pileup. She had a traumatic brain injury, skull fractures and a broken femur, and spent weeks in a coma. The car she was in was stopped, and the truck was going about 60 mph. The driver, Partap Singh, was in the country illegally, and California had given him a CDL.
Here is her dad’s statement this past September at a House Judiciary hearing.

And yet Ukraine names divisions after famous Wehrmacht divisions, like Eidelweis, and Ukraine builds a "Pantheon of Heroes" that gives official state funerals to men like Melnyk, who led the OUN. Melnyk was selected to lead the OUN and collaborated with Nazi intelligence to plan the largely aborted OUN Uprising of 1939 during the German invasion of Poland. The OUN was also sent to Slovakia to put down an uprising against the Nazis.

You would think that Hitler apologists would be on Ukraine's side.

BS-ABC goes there:

BYRON YORK: The political path of the Cornell rape allegation.

It seems likely the case will become even more political in coming days and weeks. And, as with everything else in our society, it will become to some degree about Trump. A media narrative, and a social media debate, will emerge in which the fraternity members become associated with Trump, and the woman becomes associated with the forces of good and decency standing up to Trump.

On ABC News’s This Week on Sunday, the New York Times’s Michelle Cottle pointed to a series of noxious social media messages the fraternity members sent about the woman. “You can’t send those messages, no matter how drunk you are, as a frat boy without having some kind of misunderstanding about what women are there for and whether this is a real person you’re dealing with,” Cottle said. And who might be to blame for that? Cottle pointed to Trump. “And that, I think, starts, you know, we can go to the president for this one,” Cottle continued. “I mean, we are in a moment in this culture where the glorification of being thuggish and swaggering and mistreating women is kind of making you a cool kid.”

It took just a couple of weeks from the lawsuit being filed to a newscast explaining that Trump was somehow involved. And it’s likely that the politicization of this case is just getting started."

If this is the best Progressives can manage for an October surprise, to try to inflate this and turn it into some kind of smear on MAGA, then I'm not sure I need to be too concerned.

The Democrats seem to believe that doubling down again, on ideas that they have previously doubled-down on many times over, with negative polling returns, is a good tactic to re-cycle. I guess time will tell. Wasn't it just a few months ago that pundits were saying that the Democratic Party was at historic lows for popularity, down in the teens? But now, we''re to believe they're unstoppable. Shaking my head at this crazy bullsh*t.

There is a maxim afoot. The crazier some story sounds, the harder it is to condemn.

Josephbleau చెప్పారు...

The curve of Democrat popularity starts high and declines against time as the candidates become better known.

The curve of Republican popularity starts low and increases with time. Due to seeing what the democrat is proposing.

There is an interaction, as Democrats decline voters support Republicans, due to the realization of what they are saying. In a binary choice disapproval of one class forces support for the other, or at least not voting at all, which is half a vote lost for the one previously supported, so to speak.

The dynamics are, when do the two curves cross. If they cross too late then voters say oh shoot, I voted for the wrong one, after the election.

Barnacle Jaq seems unaware that there are even more Hitler fans on Russia's side, for instance the Wagner Group was founded by a guy with a visible SS thunderbolt tattoo on his neck and explicitly named after Hitler's favorite musician. Now that they've moved to Africa, where they're murdering, torturing, raping, and mutilating the locals, they've changed their name to Afrika Korps, after Rommel's expeditionary group. Stupid or complicit westerners call them Africa Corps, but they are in fact named after Rommel's soldiers, and there's no C in the Russian alphabet.

By the way, I've read that the occupied nation with the largest number of willing recruits to SS and other Nazi units per capita was not Ukraine, or France, or Lithuania, but . . . the Netherlands. Were any of Barnacle Jaq's grandfathers, great-grandfathers, or great uncles among them?

Not to mention that Ukrainians were stuck between Hitler and Stalin, and it is not at all obvious that Stalin was the lesser of two evils. Dutchmen had no such excuse, being far from any danger of Communist conquest. Those tens of thousands who joined the SS and Wehrmacht did it for love of Nazism or hatred of Jews, not for fear of Stalin.

@DW:
The Netherlands provided the most Waffen-SS volunteers of any Western European country, likely the most per capita there too.” The broader “most of any occupied nation” claim only works if you count Waffen-SS service alone, leave out the Baltics as conscripted, and count Ukraine as a whole instead of Galicia. These are approximate figures, and estimates vary from source to source. (Perplexity, Grok)

Eva Marie చెప్పారు...

Most per capita
• Estonia: By 1944, 60,000 Estonians were serving in the SS and Wehrmacht, out of a population of a little under 1 million. That works out to roughly 6%.[tlu]
• Latvia: About 110,000 to 115,000 Latvians served in the German forces, out of a population of about 2 million. That’s roughly 5 to 6%.[okupacijasmuzejs]
These figures are far above the Dutch rate of about a quarter of one percent. Two caveats apply, though. Most Baltic recruits were drafted, not volunteers. And the Soviet Union had annexed the Baltic states in 1940, so some histories count them as part of the Soviet total.
(Perplexity, Grok)

john mosby చెప్పారు...

Animal House is a strange movie to me. It is literally dark. So much of it takes place at night and indoors. It is a movie about party people in New England during the school year, so that does make sense. But watching the movie kind of gives me a mini-S.A.D. attack. The acting style also has a lot of flat delivery, as if everyone was inspired by 70s realism even though they were making an over-the-top comedy. So that adds to the depression. Finally, the transgressive stuff - the juke joint scene, the reject couch, the moral dilemma over raping an unconscious girl, etc - helps make it a dark film in all senses for me.

The early SNL that Belushi came from to do this movie was also rather literally dark. You could tell you were in Manhattan at night. Present-day SNL has a much bigger lighting and set-design budget, so they can have e.g. brightly lit pastel morning-show sketches.

Probably just me. CC, JSM

Compare/contrast the Bill Murray movies of just a few years later, coming out of the same SNL era. Much brighter. Blues Brothers, another Belushi project, is a bit less depressive. I dunno. CC, JSM

That sounds like an argument about intervening before a crime is committed because you believe people will commit the act. That then suggests that a leader is right then to punish “innocent” people based on their own innate knowledge that those people are criminals in the making. Failure to do otherwise is worthy of condemnation by the person putting forth the argument.

No one has to admit any such thing. The fact (if it's a fact, and not exaggerated) that "Iron Dome shoots down 99% of missiles traveling mach 2-10 with the radar signature of a large dog" does not mean it can hit hang gliders. If it were designed to hit things as low and slow as hang gliders, it would also be hitting large birds, large kites, small civilian planes, advertising blimps, and (duh!) Israeli hang-gliders. It is surely designed only to hit things that could possibly be missiles, not the tens of thousands of other flying objects and creatures in the air over Israel at any time. That means there must be a rather high minimum speed for something to be targeted.

P.S. Ukraine found that F-16s aren't all that great for shooting down a lot of drone models because they're way too fast: the pilot gets only one shot and is then way past the drone. They've had a lot of success with propeller-driven trainer planes, which are much slower and have front and back seats for instructor and trainee. For anti-drone patrol, the guy in the back is not a trainee pilot, he's a soldier with a shotgun. The pilot in front flies the plane up next to the drone, going roughly the same speed, and the guy in the back blasts it as many times as it takes.
