First Flรกvio Bolsonaro, now Aleksandar Vuฤiฤ — two more Trump-aligned leaders with authoritarian tendencies. When will Trump’s other pal, Putin, allow Russians to choose their leaders in free and fair elections?
The question was whether Lula could withstand Trump’s sustained efforts—both overt and covert—to oust him. The outcome is as much a test of U.S. influence as of Lula’s political standing, and of whether Brazilians have learned the obvious lessons from Argentina and Venezuela about the costs of subservient alignment with Washington.
The fact that both Lula’s and Bolsonaro’s campaigns requested extensions is important context. The Supreme Court’s last-minute decision raises legitimate questions about electoral procedure, but it’s misleading to portray it as a partisan maneuver when both sides sought the extension.
Flavio Bolsonaro has "authoritarian tendencies"? Lula is the one who locked up his opponent (Bolsonaro's father) on extremely dubious charges, and threatened to lock up his brother as well. IEE is as unable to recognize authoritarianism as Barnacle Jaq, still whining about Yanukovych, who locked up his opponent (Tymoshenko) in the election that brought him to power.
IEE: The Student List avoided taking a side on left versus right. Its stated ideology is reform and anti-corruption. Its 11-point program is about fighting corruption and organized crime, freeing the media from political control, and some social measures on education, housing and health care. Sounds like Trump.
via CTH FilmLad: “If Russia decides that the civilian Starlink satellite network is weaponized and fair game, we risk a serious Kessler syndrome. First modeled by NASA’s Donald Kessler and Burton Cour-Palais in 1978, it describes a scenario in which the density of objects in low Earth orbit gets so high that collisions start producing debris faster than natural processes (mainly atmospheric drag) can remove. Each collision creates more fragments, which raise the odds of further collisions, leading to a self-sustaining cascade, a runaway cloud of satellite debris that can make certain orbital bands increasingly hazardous.Space could become unusable for years to centuries. You like driving around with GPS? Starlink MUST remain a civilian entity.”
Elon Musk’s response: “This is indeed one of the main reasons that Starlink must remain a civilian operation. It can be used for infrastructure that is military, but it cannot be used for unequivocally offensive strikes that make it fair game to be struck back. An adversary blowing up Starlink satellites would create a domino effect of destruction that would generate a vast field of debris making space unusable.”
'... First Flรกvio Bolsonaro, now Aleksandar Vuฤiฤ — two more Trump-aligned leaders with authoritarian tendencies....
Can you show us on the doll where the authoritarian tendencies touched you?
The supposed 'authoritarian' conceded the election based on his own data, before official results were even announced. Most democratic 'authoritarian' in world history.
Did they give you a pay raise for midterms? They really should be thinking about performance improvement plans.
Three particularly relevant examples: Praise for Brazil’s military dictatorship: A 2017 biography of his father, written by Flรกvio, denied that the 1964 military takeover was a coup and praised the dictatorship and Colonel Carlos Alberto Brilhante Ustra, who was associated with torture.
Questioning democratic legitimacy: Flรกvio has defended his father against accusations of threatening democracy, despite Jair Bolsonaro’s conviction for plotting a coup after losing the 2022 election.
Potential concentration of power: In October 2026, Flรกvio proposed using his congressional support to change the Constitution in the name of “redemocratizing” Brazil, while leaving open the possibility of extending the presidential term from four to five years. Critics warned that his vague proposals could weaken institutional checks and balances; he denied intending to undermine democracy.
Lula’s prosecution raises legitimate questions about judicial abuse. His convictions were annulled, and a separate ruling found judicial bias. But that doesn’t establish that Lula personally ordered political opponents jailed.
The first example is particularly significant because it reflects Flรกvio’s own published views, rather than guilt by association with his father.
As for Yanukovych, the European Court of Human Rights found Tymoshenko’s detention arbitrary and politically abusive. That’s a documented finding, not merely a partisan accusation.
And Bolsonaro? He was convicted of plotting to overturn an election he lost. That’s a far more concrete basis for questioning his commitment to democracy than guilt by association or political rhetoric.
Criticize Lula where the evidence warrants it. But applying the same standard to everyone means distinguishing controversial prosecutions from documented efforts to overturn democratic elections.

@ Aggie: Great news for those of us hoping to see the back of corrupt autocrats: Orbรกn is gone, Vuฤiฤ is gone. Let’s see if the trend continues with the U.S. midterms.
Why is control of the border at the top of the list . . . o that’s right . . . Trump took care of that on day one of his presidency. If you want your borders. You can keep your borders. Vote Republican 2026
Hahaha! More warmed-over obviously-borrowed talking points from IEE: Bolsonaro Senior was convicted! As if there are no corrupt judges in Brazil! Is IEE unaware that Lula was also convicted of serious crimes less than 10 years ago, and sentenced to 12 years in prison, but the conviction was overruled? He knows nothing but what his paymasters tell him to pass on to us.
Yes border security is one of Trump’s policy successes, with a substantial reduction in border apprehensions. But reducing illegal crossings is not the same as solving the broader immigration problem. The political irony is that even on this traditionally strong Republican issue, his approval is evenly split suggesting that tougher enforcement alone hasn’t translated into broad public approval of his immigration policies.
Lula’s convictions were annulled for lack of jurisdiction, and the Supreme Court separately found the judge biased—serious due-process failures, not a declaration of innocence. Bolsonaro, by contrast, was convicted for plotting to overturn the 2022 election. Question either case if you like, but one corrupt judge doesn’t invalidate every ruling. Address the evidence, not imagined fever dreams.
The factual distinction is supported by Reuters’ reporting on Lula’s annulled convictions and the bias ruling, and the reporting on Bolsonaro’s coup-plot conviction. https://www.reuters.com/world/americas/brazils-bolsonaro-sentenced-27-years-after-landmark-coup-plot-conviction-2025-09-12/
As if IEE knows anything about the evidence of either conviction except what his paymasters feed him. He has been proven to repeat talking points provided by others, and, as I have said before several times, he needs to bugger off to Blue Sky and leave us alone. Or start his own blog and stop by here once a month to remind us it exists and invite us to visit. Isn't that what Crack Emcee did?
"Eleven of those by one jackass alone." So we've got a jack ass and a jaq ass on this site, not to mention whatever kind of ugly but hard-working equine RCOCEAN II is.
So IEE, as you say borders were put in order by our President Trump, why didn’t the Democrats do that? Biden had the power. Why did the Democrats lie that it couldn’t be done?
Maybe they’ll learn, but Democrats have been painfully slow to grasp the obvious. Voters have made it clear that border security isn’t optional and Democrats can’t afford to ignore that lesson again.
I'm a piรฑata? EE admits that my comments, unlike his borrowed nullities, are full of delicious substance, well worth a great deal of trouble to get hold of. Or maybe he's as incompetent at insults as he is at geopolitics.
The fact that both Lula’s and Bolsonaro’s campaigns requested extensions is important context. The Supreme Court’s last-minute decision raises legitimate questions about electoral procedure, but it’s misleading to portray it as a partisan maneuver when both sides sought the extension.</b.
Complete lie.
Bolssonaro is calling for the election to be annulled because of the flagrant abuse of the law.
These pieces of shit just lie. They are just completely dishonest people.
IEE: “Maybe they’ll learn, but Democrats have been painfully slow to grasp the obvious. Voters have made it clear that border security isn’t optional and Democrats can’t afford to ignore that lesson again.”
It’s not that they were slow. They lied. Something like 7 million illegals came into the country during Biden’s presidency. Let’s be conservative and say 5 million. When the Biden administration was asked about it, again and again, they said they couldn’t fix it without Congress. Then in June 2024, five months before the election, Biden signed an executive order and crossings dropped. I have a rule of thumb. When someone lies to me, even in a small way, I stop trusting them. I’m not smart enough to figure out the big issues like Iran or Ukraine. Who knows who’s right or wrong. But I take it on faith that if they lie about one thing, they’ll lie about other things too. And the border isn’t complicated. They lied about something simple, again and again. And what happened once Trump took control of the border? Drug deaths kept falling. The murder rate hit the lowest point ever recorded. These are issues that affect our citizens directly. That’s why I’m voting Republican in the midterms.
Apparently the polls only stayed open in Lula strongholds. The judge ordered the extensions after the polls were already closed in districts with heavy Bolsonaro support. Sounds fair to me.
Lula’s sham “victory” is nothing an honest or honorable individual would celebrate. If rioters, a tall tree, and a length of rope are what it takes to get an honest government in Brazil, then I guess that’s what will happen.
Rich acts like the democrats made a "mistake" when they imported 10 million future voters (and present-day bodies to goose their apportionment numbers). Nobody here buys that shit, Rich.
East of the city of Pittsburgh, on the campus of the University of Pittsburgh, stands the Cathedral of Learning. At 535’ tall, it dwarfs the surrounding landscape. Commissioned in 1921 by Pitt chancellor John Bowman it is mockingly called Bowman’s erection. Which brings me to Obama’s abomination in the city of Chicago. What to call it?
Tomorrow, I will go to motor vehicle to change my drivers license address, because I have moved as part of an ongoing divorce. I hope it goes smoothly, and I think I may go vote early. I've never, ever done that before. I've always been a vote-in-person-on-election-day gal. (In my road warrior days, I actually put in the contracting agreement that I would always be home for Election Days; yes, I planned ahead. It's easy to determine election dates far in advance, but people just don't do it.) I would still prefer there be a national Election Day, or two or three, as long as the days are consecutive, and that employers be required to allow time off to vote. I strongly would prefer photo IDs be required. And I would get rid of mail-in ballots except for under the old "absentee ballot" system, with reasonable but strict requirements and efforts made to be sure people who can't vote in person aren't disenfranchised due to physical or other specific circumstances.
I also am not hopeful that the above will come to pass. So I'll settle just for getting past this election.
I do wish our campaigning-election seasons could be shorter. I prefer our political system to others, but one thing I do prefer about some others are shorter election periods. We've gotten to the point where there is constant campaigning all of the time, and not just with regard to the House of Representatives, where that's built in due to two-year terms. It seems like all offices, now. But that's complete pie-in-the-sky, of course, and I acknowledge that whole-heartedly.
I'm a lifelong firm, committed voter and I've never missed an in-person election (except for primaries when registered "no party" etc.), but I'm also tired of it all.
I used to wait until Election Day and concur with the notion that it would be great if it is the only day to vote. However, they have made early voting easy in Texas, and Democrats in Harris County in 2022 screwed conservative precincts by withholding enough ballot paper at polling centers. Precincts that tended Democrat got twice the ballot paper they needed while those tending Republican got half what they typically used in previous elections. It was excused as an innocent mistake, but it was blatant corruption to include having interns deliver the ballot paper rather than Constables, as has been done every election up to that day.
…the old system isn’t going anywhere. The current leftie ‘leaders’ need the cheat to obtain power to implement their unpopular policies. So long as there are sufficient numbers of ordinary voters to support the freak radicals and the replacement theorists, the people who think Democrats are still Bill Clintons and Kennedys or fail to see Obama as an Alinsky front, who believe WaPo and NYT are trustworthy news organizations, so long as there are enough believers the steal will continue..
…good news is the last few elections, especially 2024 demonstrate fewer are being duped…and I’m not an election prognosticator but amusing to me the predictors declaring democrats regaining control because of ‘historic’ pattern of presidential party losing congress at the midterm trend while ignoring the historic pattern of pollsters being wrong bigly and every us county save a few trending red since the commies took over the democrats…
I’m tired of worrying about the outcome. I wish it were shorter too. Would be nice to hold primaries in early October, then general election just 1 month later. Candidates would then have to be aiming toward the general during their primary and would likely all be more reasonable in their agendas. Why waste so much of our time and energy on the silly outlier ideas?
“ Humperdink said... I sure hope I misheard Obama, the architect of Obamacare, calling for Medicare for all. Haven’t we suffered enough?
10/26/26, 5:51 AM”
That’s the point. So many young people are up in arms about the cost of healthcare, calling for a ‘centralized’ system, not realizing that it was Obama and Obamacare which made it the way it is today.
…it’s only a problem if you pay attention. If you’re paying attention because you don’t know who you’ll vote for then you haven’t been paying attention. Ann’s ‘on the way to the polls’ tradition is from a time when your political choices were the equivalent to coke or pepsi? If you were RC there was no hope for you…now the choice is Democracy or the ‘we’re gonna rewrite the Constitution’ people that are an evil blend of Stalin and Sharia….
Robert Reich(D) and other Dem-o-fascists are out there demanding Musk be destroyed and stripped of his work and his companies be nationalized (run by the corrutocrats).
Perhaps Brazil voted like a Trump was on the ballot.
I’m a centrist and Brazil's election was a no-brainer. You may disagree about many things and I disagree with Lula, but there are fundamental tenets in democracy that are non-negotiable.
Imagine if a politician had plastic surgery and then right in the middle of a campaign his inserts slipped or his stitches tore. How embarrassing. He'd have to be in a clinic somewhere with no pictures allowed while undergoing repairs. He couldn't Zoom, obviously. The best he could hope for is that everyone would think he'd gone nuts with campaign stress. Or some other excuse legit among the Dems. Drunk? Pass, brother. Ran off with someone’s wife? Pass. “Wife” is cis-hetero-whatever-patriamonial, anyhow. Married his brother? That’s a little iffy. But … maybe. Getting his plastic surgery re-worked? I think not. And I want a picture
Apparently IEE hasn't heard that Brazil has a Supreme Electoral Court in charge of supervising elections, that their Supreme Court has no jurisdiction, that no one on the Supreme Electoral Court approved the extension of voting hours in Lula neighborhoods, and that that was done by a single member of the Supreme Court, appointed by Lula after defending him in his corruption trial. That makes Lula's supposed victory utterly and obviously illegitimate.
Or perhaps he knows all that but makes sure not to mention it because he's a political shill, paid to write what he writes, or rather what he cuts-and-pastes from whoever actually writes it.
Why should Bolsonaro concede? The election was obviously fraudulent: the head of the Supreme Electoral Tribunal says so. Why does IEE continue to misrepresent what is happening in Brazil? Because he's paid to, obviously.
Bolsonaro loses Brazil’s election by more than 4 million votes, refuses to concede, and seeks annulment over a two-hour extension of voting—even though his own campaign also requested an extension, citing severe weather in southern Brazil. Sound familiar? The parallel with Trump’s refusal to accept defeat is hard to miss. If it weren’t so damaging to public confidence in democracy, it would be laughable.
There’s a deep contradiction in MAGA supporters embracing Bolsonaro as Brazil’s Trump while defending his refusal to accept Brazil’s election results. Bolsonaro’s election denial directly mirrors Trump’s refusal to concede the 2020 U.S. election, a campaign that culminated in January 6. If you condemn election denial when it threatens your side but excuse it when your political allies practice it, you’re applying a partisan double standard and revealing a clear case of partisan hypocrisy.
"Precincts that tended Democrat got twice the ballot paper they needed while those tending Republican got half what they typically used in previous elections."
But you see, when they do the recount, it will show that there was no electrical fraud nor malpractice. The ballots will speak for themselves, no matter how many times you count them.
IEE doesn't mention that the extension was made at 5:01 pm after polls had officially closed, that the voting machines are designed to lock up when polls close so that they cannot be reopened, that pro-Bolsonaro areas closed their polls at 5:00 and couldn't reopen them, while pro-Lula areas had apparently been told in advance not to close the polls at 5:00. If the extension had been announced at 3:00 or 3:30 instead of 5:01, there would have been no problem.
Again, IEE presents an utterly dishonest, one-sided, pro-Lula, anti-democracy, written-by-someone-else account, like the paid shill he is. One more time: he needs to bugger of to Blue Sky and leave us in peace.
More weak sauce from the pedantic commenter who calls himself dr weevil. Speculation isn’t evidence. Show proof of coordinated favoritism; otherwise, a disputed procedure doesn’t prove a rigged election. And the personal insults? Just a substitute for a stronger argument. I’ve given this nonsense more than enough oxygen. I’m done.
Personal insults? I have caught IEE red-handed cutting-and-pasting someone else's words with no link, no quotation marks, and no admission, then or since, that he did so. Calling him a cut-and-paste shill is a simple fact, nothing personal. Calling me a 'pedant' is a personal insult, and there's nothing pedantic about anything I've written on this thread. Again, he doesn't need to go away mad, just go away.
Also, "a disputed procedure"? They have a Supreme Electoral Tribunal with complete power over elections, but a Supreme Court justice, just one, made the decision that was not his to make. Looks like a grossly unconstitutional power grab to me, and anyone else who's not repeating talking points.
Kassio Nunes Marques, head of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), doesn’t seem to have called the Brazilian election fraudulent. While he mentioned that extending voting hours at the last minute created some tough administrative hurdles that might have affected things, he also noted that the court handled them well and said he fully trusts the results. He didn’t claim any fraud.
"THE PRESIDENT OF BRAZIL'S ELECTORAL JUSTICE CONFIRMED THAT THEY NEVER APPROVED THE 2-HOUR EXTENSION: Kassio Nunes Marques revealed that there was no regulation authorizing the electoral extension ordered by Cristiano Zanin, Lula's former lawyer and Supreme Court justice.
"The TSE president assured that the decision was unprecedented in Brazil's history and that it generated difficulties in the electoral process, as it was communicated after the official closing time of the polling stations."
Is he not calling it "fraudulent" because he doesn't want to be arrested (as Bolsonaro Senior was, and as Lula is trying to do to Bolsonaro Junior's brother), or even assassinated?
“4 I wonder why corruption is the top issue for the American voter? It's a mystery ... named Trump.”
What corruption? Are you talking about Trump corruption? Like the crooked judge and prosecutor in NY who (deliberately) confused assessed and appraised value to steal $600 million from the Trumps? Or that foreign ‘governments rented rooms in Trump owned hotels? Or just one of those leftist lies that they figure if they say it enough, someone will believe it?
We are living right now in one of those Trump hotels. From long time observation, my guess is that on almost any given night, over half the people staying here are foreigners. It says “International” in the hotel’s title, and it truly is. Esp Pacific rim, India, Europe, and the rest of the English speaking world.
And every day, we have the spectacle of a double Korean Air flight crew. The flight attendants are all young and beautiful, identically dressed except for the slightly older leads, who wear contrasting outfits, and are the only ones allowed to speak to the male cockpit crew. 15 minutes after they head upstairs, the flight attendants are back in their civies, heading across the street for Nordstroms and the rest of the high end stores in the mall. Like clockwork. Asians, in particular, seem to love shopping there.
The other thing is that Trump coming into town fills the hotel in literally minutes. Every one bedroom unit and penthouse selling out within 20 minutes of his arrival here becoming public. MAL was reportedly sold out throughout much of the Transition. So, of course, a lot of foreign officials stay in Trump properties when someone in his family is in residence in one of his properties. And here, up in the penthouses where POTUS owns and stays (supposedly on the 61st floor). Nice, but no dance floors, etc. Much flashier penthouses in other hotels down the Strip.
My point here is that foreign govt officials staying in Trump properties is just business. If they are going to be meeting with him, the top officials will be staying in the penthouses, and their staff and hanger-ons in regular rooms. It’s just the way it is. And that is the type of corruption that the left accuses the Trumps of engaging in. They have owned these hotels since well before PDJT ever came down the Escalator (in one of their properties). Now compare and contrast with the Biden family taking monetary bribes from the ruling junta in Ukraine and businesses owned by the ChiCom government.
I love the logic: foreign officials staying at Trump properties is just business, because hotels have foreign guests. Case closed.
By that reasoning, there can be no conflict of interest as long as the influence-peddling operation has a gift shop and room service.
And the Trump family’s crypto ventures and foreign business deals? Apparently, those don’t count if you can type “Biden” often enough.
Thanks for the demonstration. I can see why corruption is the top concern in the Fox poll.
Tracking the Trump family's business deals and profits in his 2nd term ~ PBS News https://www.pbs.org/newshour/show/tracking-the-trump-familys-business-deals-and-profits-in-his-2nd-term
Time from "I'm done" to posting again: 1 hour and 52 minutes. What was the old saying about guests and dead fish stinking after 3 days? IEE has speeded the process up enormously.
Thanks for the link, Dr. Weevil. You’re right that Justice Nunes Marques did raise questions about the extension’s validity and pointed out some real administrative hurdles.
I was trying to make a narrower point: in that same comment, he mentioned that officials tackled those issues and affirmed that they felt good about the result which is different from claiming fraud.
La Derecha Diario, a very partisan Argentine outlet, has shared some questionable election stories in the past. For example, in August 2026, the fact-checking group Chequeado noted that it spread unverified fraud claims after Brazil’s 2022 election. So, it’s a good idea to double-check any quotes from them with original sources.
And IEE continues to pretend that he's never been caught posting second-hand talking points, word for word, without a link, or quotation marks, or any hint that they were not original. That's not "gibberish", that's a simple fact that IEE cannot deny, and that vitiates* every post he has made here since then, and retroactively every post he made before that. Since he's never even tried to explain or excuse his action, it seems perfectly fair to presume that he's paid to post here. It's the most reasonable explanation of his behavior.

*Is "vitiate" a word only a pedant would use? Or a perfectly cromulent word that every high school graduate should know? And someone whose comments are so very high in quantity and low in quality should probably not accuse anyone else of 'spewing'. It looks like projection - projectile commenting, we might say.

IEE:

FilmLad: “If Russia decides that the civilian Starlink satellite network is weaponized and fair game, we risk a serious Kessler syndrome.
Elon Musk’s response:
“This is indeed one of the main reasons that Starlink must remain a civilian operation.
It can be used for infrastructure that is military, but it cannot be used for unequivocally offensive strikes that make it fair game to be struck back.
An adversary blowing up Starlink satellites would create a domino effect of destruction that would generate a vast field of debris making space unusable.”

Three particularly relevant examples:
Praise for Brazil’s military dictatorship: A 2017 biography of his father, written by Flรกvio, denied that the 1964 military takeover was a coup and praised the dictatorship and Colonel Carlos Alberto Brilhante Ustra, who was associated with torture.

Regardless of outcome, I will be very glad when the midterms are over. I suspect that are a lot of people out there who are in the same place.
How long will they be counting votes though
“Let’s see if the trend continues with the U.S. midterms.”
It will when you vote a straight “R” ticket. Throw these Democrat bums out.
Anyone else experience election/campaigning fatigue?
Democrats can be trusted to be Democrats. Thieving, scheming, skeeving P’sOS SOBs. Not to be trusted - or entrusted - with power.

Can we expect post election Court Challenges to be Plethorafic?
There’s a deep contradiction in MAGA supporters embracing Bolsonaro as Brazil’s Trump while defending his refusal to accept Brazil’s election results. Bolsonaro’s election denial directly mirrors Trump’s refusal to concede the 2020 U.S. election, a campaign that culminated in January 6. If you condemn election denial when it threatens your side but excuse it when your political allies practice it, you’re applying a partisan double standard and revealing a clear case of partisan hypocrisy.

But you see, when they do the recount, it will show that there was no electrical fraud nor malpractice. The ballots will speak for themselves, no matter how many times you count them.
If it’s only rigged when the people you like don’t win .. democracy might not be for you.
The last three U.S. presidential elections:
Trump won twice. Biden won once.
The last three Brazilian presidential elections:
Lula won twice. Bolsonaro won once.
Elections swing. It happens.
I’m done.
If you think the only way to win an election is to imprison your political opponent, democracy might not be for you.
Indefatigable Enema Exhibitions™️ has been informed by the details provided by Dr. W.
As far as insults go, Indefatigable Enema Exhibitions™️ insults the intelligence of the unaware who bother to read his scat scribblings.
There is NO common sense to be found in the Democrat Party.
Rationality will NOT be found in the Democrat Party.

On the other hand (link):

@dr weevil: I was referring to the gibberish you spew. By contrast, Bruce Hayden is coherent and makes cogent arguments.
