"Legal experts say that Mr. Hasan could challenge the government’s decision to livestream his execution, perhaps by asserting..."

"... that a public broadcast would violate prohibitions on cruel and unusual punishment in the Uniform Code of Military Justice and the Eighth Amendment of the Constitution. Courts have rejected requests from private companies that sought to broadcast executions to the public. In 2001, a federal judge refused to allow an internet company to carry a live feed of the execution of the Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh, citing Federal Bureau of Prisons rules that forbid recording or broadcasting executions.... But the Supreme Court has not weighed in directly on the question of whether public executions are legal, particularly when requested by the government, experts said. Public executions have been seen, including by United Nations officials, as a violation of international human rights protections under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights...."

All executions should be public.

In this case, I'd be okay with filling a pit with pig shit, tossing him in and coming back in a month to cover it up.

Spiros કહ્યું...

I think the public enjoys a First Amendment right to view executions. Usually this means reporters get a front row seat and they act as representatives of the public; now, maybe, it means that executions are live streamed. Anyways, the libs should be happy about this. It's always the same nonsense from these people. Somehow bearing witness to an execution has some sort of transformative effect and will reduce support for capital punishment.

rhhardin કહ્યું...

I infer he hasn't challenged it.

Aggie કહ્યું...

Yeah? What kind of 'Legal experts'? Civilian or Military ones?

Bob Boyd કહ્યું...

This is why I think the livestream will never happen and maybe was never meant to happen. The legal process over the livestream will require delaying the execution and the military will say, "You know what? Just forget about the livestream" and just shoot him on schedule.

Bob Boyd કહ્યું...

You know how Trump could get the MSM and Dem leadership to support and promote the livestream?

Hear me out...an all drag queen firing squad.

Bob Boyd કહ્યું...

72 virgin drag queens.

BUMBLE BEE કહ્યું...

How about Pay Per View?

Aggie કહ્યું...

We could call it a Drag Frag.

Bob Boyd કહ્યું...

Dems would insist the execution be shown live in every elementary school in America and the drag queens would read Hasan a story book before they shoot him.

Narr કહ્યું...

Deadstream.

Lazarus કહ્યું...

He gets to say his last words just before the execution?
I don't think they'll be "I'm sorry."
Or that he'll start a rousing chant of "U.S.A. U.S.A."
Just get it over with.

WK કહ્યું...

So don’t livestream and just show a recorded replay?

Achilles કહ્યું...

If we as a society can't livestream an execution because there are a bunch of people who can't handle what it takes to maintain civilization then we wont have a civilization.

The people who want to rule us have been trying to infantilize us for a long time.

Gospace કહ્યું...

Originalism. Executions were public affairs until the 1830s.

Why wouldn’t he want it livestreamed? That could inspire others to follow his path to Paradise. He might get some bonus virgins for that.

Rosalyn C. કહ્યું...

I think the execution should be a private military matter and thus broadcast only to service members, if they want to watch. He not only committed an act of terrorism, he violated the sacred trust among his fellow service members, in a sense, his family. The act of justice is owed to them and should be theirs to witness. Not suitable for the general public. IMO.

hanuman_prodigious_leaper કહ્યું...

Can they Livestream the Supreme Court argument at least?

Mason G કહ્યું...

"I think the execution should be a private military matter and thus broadcast only to service members..."

I don't know- I think the people who get out of bed at 5AM to go out into the cold and dark and do the jobs that pay the taxes that support the military have a reasonable case for being able to view the execution, if they so choose.

hanuman_prodigious_leaper કહ્યું...

For the firing squad form into circle people who enabled him continue in job until that day with Hasan in center.

Anytime the government kills someone a lotof people end up believing the government is the enemy. A public execution is a recruiting tool for your enemies. The government will have to live with the visuals forever. Someone needs to get up in the face of The Man and tell him this is STUPID.

hanuman_prodigious_leaper કહ્યું...

DoW should hire this lady to sell spot on firing line!

I have no plans to watch. Just tell the bastard don of a boar hog tgst the shooters will be using hollow points stuffed with pig sh*t and watch him squirm.

Skeptical Voter કહ્યું...

Firing squad should use M-14s. 7.62 mm rounds from M-14s will ensure that death comes quickly--no trips to the hospital to resuscitate after a botched execution. I'm not wild about livestreaming the execution, but I do think surviving victims from Ft. Hood and the families of those Major Hasan murdered should get an opportunity to watch the execution if they choose to.

'Can they Livestream the Supreme Court argument at least?'

Excellent question

We used to have moral authority. The next time terrorist capture and kill a service member after this, it will just be tit for tat.

Hope veterans cheering this on look long and hard at the future they are laying for today's active duty.

Nancy Reyes કહ્યું...

I fear broadcasting his execution will make a martyr of him.
So do it at night in secret and have the MSM broadcast stories of those whose lives he destroyed instead of discussing whether or not to execute him.

Josephbleau કહ્યું...

I am shocked to hear that a lawyer claims that something could possibly be challenged in court.

boatbuilder કહ્યું...

This is precisely what Trump and Hegseth had in mind when they announced that the execution will take place in December.
The left is now defending Hasan. And even though legislatures have really no say in any of this, every candidate will be asked about their position.

boatbuilder કહ્યું...

"We used to have moral authority. The next time terrorist capture and kill a service member after this, it will just be tit for tat."

Because no other country ever publicly executes military officers who assassinate the disarmed soldiers under their command, in service to their enemies. Sure.
If the U.S. military doesn't have the "moral authority" to execute this treasonous mass murderer, then no such "moral authority" exists, anywhere.
And the jihadists, as we all know, are extremely fastidious about "moral authority."

Freder Frederson કહ્યું...

"Because no other country ever publicly executes military officers who assassinate the disarmed soldiers under their command, in service to their enemies. Sure."

The only other countries that publicly executes anyone, are Iran, North Korea, Afghanistan, and Saudi Arabia (although they have apparently stopped public executions). So not only are you wrong, but actively on the side of evil.

Australia effectively ended the death penalty in the military in 1903 (primarily because of the Breaker Morant incident) and ended it under any circumstances in 1973.

It isn't something I'd watch. But if they want to feed his corpse to the hogs I might tune in for a few minutes.
Better to just give him a bullet to the back of the head, and release a pic of the dead body to satisfy everyone.
