Julianne Moore wants you to see her interact charmingly with all the cool objects she has in her apartment.

Including a copy of "The Joy of Sex," which she keeps on the table by the bed because she's making a movie out of it. I guess it's like that time Woody Allen made a movie out of "Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex/But Were Afraid to Ask." Oh, no, actually, per IMDB, it's the story of the the author, his wife, and his wife's best friend. Somehow they lived in a way that inspired the big best seller.

My favorite part of the Architectural Digest video? When she pulled the sleeve of her sweater over her hand and used it to polish the nickel light switch in the bathroom. The wealth + humility mix was ideal.

Meh. She is probably a leftist who voted for high taxes.
I'd like to see a wealthy celebrity tax.

Sex sex sex - says Hollywood. Sex.
College students - do you get the message? SEX.
Cigarettes and drinking, too. Get the message.

I read "The Joy of Sex". Couldn't stop laughing at the hirsuted boomer illustrations. Super vanilla in a modern ketamine-filled-gangbang-a-day-underaged-she-hulk-trainrunning college campus environment.

There seems to be a theme today of "spectacles best left unwatched".

Nice place to visit, wouldn't want to live there.

I like Julianne Moore a lot, I actually LOVE Julianne Moore, and I really like getting a tour of her apartment. It is a really cool apartment. Who are her friends in the adjacent terrace? Oh, America is a heckuva place! But I don't think, I really DON'T think, that Julianne loves color. Buying grey paint from Benjamin Moore -- nice touch there! And I too love Benjamin Moore paint! -- and painting your living room to match some nondescript bookshelves left by the former tenant -- no, that is not really LOVING color. It actually isn't, actually, let's be truthful among friends. And when she got a RED, like that object that passes by briefly, Julianne really didn't seem to have known what to do with it. But I LOVE Julianne Moore and it would be so WRONG to criticize!!! I am not criticizing, actually. Thank you for a more beautiful look at Manhattan from the inside! Viva bella!

There was also National Lampoon's The Job of Sex, from which I remember only the Wichita Walkoff.

"I like texture"
Well - you're in the club.

Peachy+2 చెప్పారు...

She calls it a "small apartment"
uh huh. There are stairs. halls.. what looks like nice sized rooms. shut up.

I've lived in many apartments in my younger days. My favorite was a studio apartment all of 500 sq ft.

Possibly she lived in the adjacent apartment and shared the terrace.

I have 24 DVDs with her in them. I can't remember a single one without looking at the list. Laws of Attraction decent romcom, Non-stop decent action pic if it's the one I think, and The Big Lebowski, though I don't particularly remember her in it.

Ann Althouse చెప్పారు...

"But I don't think, I really DON'T think, that Julianne loves color."

I thought it was funny how she kept saying things like "I love the color!" and it was beige.

rhhardin చెప్పారు...

Romcom stars are absolutely interchangeable.

ChrisC చెప్పారు...

I liked her in the Big Lebowski, but I don't give a shit about her apartment.

Street-level Brownstone with a stoop that you can sit out on and watch passers-by .... passe. Converted rooftop shoe box is where it's at. Another half-Celebrity trying to sell her mistake and using a fancy Magazine to offload the Clunker via a quasi Real Estate showing. However, It is kind of fun watching this not-quite-Star try to convince people how much she loves her cold plastic bubble in the sky, complete with the Community Garden she's forced to share with the neighbors, who she just loves! The requisite photo of her all-black husband and black in laws on full display, as well. Covered all the bases.

RideSpaceMountain చెప్పారు...

"I liked her in the Big Lebowski"

"Beav....you mean vagina?"

One of the most underrated scenes in that movie is when The Dude catches her using "beaver" after earlier in the film she says, "The word vagina makes men uncomfortable. Yes, they don't like hearing it and find it difficult to say, whereas without batting an eye, a man will refer to his 'dick' or his 'rod' or his 'Johnson'."

Don't bat your eyes Maude!

That was a good walk through. And thorough.

"I can't remember a single one without looking at the list."

I remember "Safe." I didn't watch the whole thing, but I think it was about a woman who was afraid of everything. Maybe even afraid of leaving her apartment.

She was also in "Vanya on 42nd Street." I wanted to check if Julianne Moore (born Julie Ann Smith) appeared in it with another actress actually named "Julie Ann Smith," but it was Brooke Smith.

Lem Vibe Bandit చెప్పారు...

She's the Queen of Grief.
She was terrific in Still Alice (2014)
In the Big Lebowski she was an artist.

Lem Vibe Bandit చెప్పారు...

I haven't seen "The Hours" (2002) yet.

Amexpat చెప్పారు...

She was great in the "Big Lebowski" and very different from that character in real life, except both of them are the type that would have a lamp guy.

Hombre చెప్పారు...

Soft core porn queen. I alway wondered what her children would think.

rcommal చెప్పారు...

She was exceptional in a number of movies, including The Hours, The Big Lebowski, Boogie Nights and a bunch more. I admire her work.

I thought her apartment was beautiful. It's not my specific taste in terms of what all I would have in my home, but it's doesn't need to be (just as I can admire and enjoy works of art that don't need to speak to me in terms of my own home). I think she likes *subtlety* of color, fine distinctions with hues, which in her case are very light ones. So I do understand what she means when she's talking about color.

Personally, I don't care about people's politics in the context of art, or design--or anything, really. If I had to stop listening to music or reading books created by people with whom I don't agree, both of my collections of those would be astronomically reduced. Same thing goes for art, architecture, theatre, films and so forth. Even sports figures and more. I am fortunate that I can keep those things strictly separate; otherwise, I would have deprived myself of a lot things throughout my life.

rcommal చెప్పారు...

I liked that she sounded pretty down to earth, and, like Althouse, I enjoyed her using her sleeve to polish a switch. And she speaks well; she's easy to listen to. I do often enough find celebrities' speech patterns annoying, especially younger ones. But that's OK. People should speak as they like.

Well she was good in crazy stupid love

I have used similar touches in decorating my apartment. I have brown wooden floors and I put my walls off to the side.

It would take Tom Wolfe to do justice to the emotions this video is designed to provoke. She has great taste and you really can’t covet (only admire) that, but surely we can resent the resources required to assemble her loving collection of perfect objects, not to mention purchasing and remodeling her idyllic garden apartment, a magically suspended miniature Central Park in the throbbing heart of the city, far above grubby deplorable New York rodents and humanity.

First Malcolm in the Middle and now Julianne Moore: Life Is Unfair.

I can’t remember if “the big toe” was in The Joy Sex. I guess it was. Unless it was in The Joy of Lesbian Sex, and I bought that, too. I think lesbian sex was just a chapter in The Joy of Sex. Like you were experimenting in college. Speaking of college, one of you bastards stole my Joy of Sex! You know who you are.

Anyway, there are no straight girls getting “the big toe.” Even in our porn, that’s not a thing. Why would it be? Cut your nails first! Free advice. You don’t want to end up in the ER.

All you people in FlyOver Country have no appreciation for the finer things, like beige. Or chairs that melt if they're exposed to the sun.

We probably will never know
And if she did
She didn't mind
She simply snorted more ketamine

I was in junior high school when The Joy of Sex came out. I remember sneaking peaks at it with my friends. I remember wondering what's so joyful about it. The joy didn't come through in the illustrations.

Sydney చెప్పారు...

Her apartment looks very familiar, especially the rooftop garden. I seem to recall someone else showing their similarly designed apartment. Maybe it was that guy who goes around asking people if he could take a tour of their apartment then posts the video on TikTok or Instagram or something.

"My architect..." Everyone needs one for their "small" apartment.
I would love to have an apartment up in the sky like that, but just to visit - not live in. The lifestyle of urban people like this is so different from mine. I live in the middle of a city too, but I have an acre around me. I can walk out the door into real plants and trees growing on land, jump in my truck and be in the open desert in 10 minutes, on a lake in 30 minutes, or at a stage show on the Strip in 15 minutes. I love her view of the city and sky, but after that, it's very restricted. I understand the allure of urban life, especially in NYC, but you really give up a lot for that. People are so different in what they value, and of course that informs their politics.

RCOCEAN II చెప్పారు...

I kept looking at the rooftop location and all those large windows and thought - this must cost a fortune to heat in the winter.

Rabel చెప్పారు...

Looks deluxe. Is it on the East side?

Earnest Prole చెప్పారు...

“I love her view of the city and sky, but after that, it's very restricted.”

Sweet summer child, that’s why she also has her house in the country:

“Julianne Moore and her husband, director Bart Freundlich,

• Location: Overlooks the ocean and a wild coastal meadow in Montauk, NY.

• Structure: A 4,000-square-foot, two-story home that the couple purchased after a years-long search.

• Renovation Design: Collaborated with Moore's brother-in-law, architectural designer Oliver Freundlich. They replaced light gray shingles with red cedar and applied a strict "three-material rule" featuring clay-finished walls, white oak floors, and Belgian bluestone.

• Landscape: Replaced a traditional manicured lawn with a wild meadow of native grasses and Queen Anne's lace designed with Tom Volk of Summerhill Landscapes.

• Outdoor Spaces: Features a modernist swimming pool, a screened-in porch off the kitchen, and a double-height foyer with direct sightlines through the house to the ocean.

Seems like there's a big push to sell off these high-end NYC homes right now. I'm sure that Mamdami's push for big property taxes on "luxury" properties has nothing to do with it. At least nothing that the libs are going to mention while they leave town.

The Joy of Sex seen on a bedroom bookshelf in a colleague's Upper West Side apartment stood out like a badge of honor for everyone to see on their way to the bathroom.
