Top-rated comment over there: "You can go to all these wildly expensive resorts and the actual horse encounters are extra? Go to a stable somewhere and volunteer to muck out stalls."
Yeah, take a workation. Oh, no, I can't use "workation" to mean a vacation that consists of doing some romantic form of work like operating a horse-drawn plow or candlemaking or pottery. That particular portmanteau is already being used to mean continuing to do your regular work remotely, in some nice vacation spot.
Meanwhile, there are these elaborate fantasy vacations. Go to the link and see photographs of people lying down while a horse more or less kisses them. I can't imagine going all the way to, say, Indonesia, to submit to the ministrations of a horse. It's presented as therapeutic, but there you'd be, expecting luxury and spirituality, surrounded by other people with the same expectations and dependent on a business that strives to give you what you paid for.

The movie "Only Yesterday" has the main character go on a work vacation, which she does every year, where she harvests the flowers that are used in traditional Japanese rouge. She reflects on her life and decides to make the lifestyle permanent by marrying a young farmer. I nice film out of Studio Ghibli.

It’s not hard to find photos of horses going a lot further than that.
'...That particular portmanteau is already being used to mean continuing to do your regular work remotely...' A 'busman's holiday', then.
In Cambodia you can shoot a live water buffalo with an RPG if that's what you need...and it's surprisingly affordable!
Hippotherapy clearly helps afflicted people manage neuromotor, cognitive, and sensory challenges, such as with cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, or autism. It is a form of medical treatment in a clinical plan.
But hippotherapy is not the horse-centered retreats of the NYT’s article. Rather, these retreats sound like a modern take on the “Equus” play, the plot of which is a psychiatrist investigating why a 17-year-old boy blinded six horses due to his intense religious and sexual worship of a horse godhead named Equus.
Two bookend horse stories in one day. One good and the other not. Some interactions with horses are psychically great while others are only great until one horse kills one person in a freak occurrence, ala New York. Then we’ve got to get rid of the horses.
Link is broken for me. But "hippotherapy" sounds like therapy with hippos. Maybe the hungry hungry ones can help with eating disorders I guess.
Actually, a friend of mine who was in an accident years ago is doing equine therapy at a place called Pal-O-Mine in Long Island. It's a great place for physical therapy with horses. We're in the middle of doing a fund raiser to replace the horse she (and others) used that "retired". Don't worry, I'm not hitting anyone here up for money. Unless....
I've taken my kids to India and Thailand and let them feed elephants. For $5 you can get lots of bananas and other fruits and the elephants are very appreciative. (Don't try that with African elephants!)
My wife has a picture of me being hosed by an Indian elephant.
Always with the elephant's mahout nearby...
My neighbor has a therapy horse. I can just walk down the street.
Horses helped me cope with life since my first pony at 10 years old in 1963 until my last one died in 2021. Now I try to get to a stable once in a while to get my "fix." (Some of the horses I've owned definitely did not make me feel safe! I didn't keep them very long.)
But wait AFFORDABILIITY is the problem gas is so high I can't buy 3 starbucks a day any more and doordash costs more because the drivers use cars not bikes. Oh yea and travel to Europe is UP 5% over last year my goodness I had planned for the trip to be cheaper said the weary traveler who dropped $5,000 for 2 last month.
Brylinski: "Always with the elephant's mahout nearby..."
Cucked Mahout would be a great name for a punk band. CC, JSM
I have fed giraffe in Singapore zoo.
Tongue is loooooong

Right on, Dinky. There will be some boxcar payouts next w/e, as Keeneland is wont to do, but the Classic has potential to be an Instant Classic.
No amount of hippotherapy is going to get me over the trauma of what happened to Christopher Reeve and Bonne Blue Butler.
Thanks to Sean above for the Studio Ghibli recommendation.
Love Studio Ghibli !
Lay down with horses? There’s a Tucker Carlson joke somewhere in there…
More SWPL stuff. Our New American fellow citizens would race them, work them to death when their farm machinery break down and/or eat them. And so it goes in Weimar Amerika.
“There’s nothing better for the inside of a man than the outside of a horse.”—Ronald Reagan
But I think he meant riding—and all the care that goes with it.
My husband had horses and by default I did, too. For him it was theraputic, but I knew that the bit in their mouth may let them know what you would like them to do, but it could never stop them from doing whatever they wanted. Scary.
There is evidence that riding horses is good treatment for both autism and PTSD. I can give you reasons why, but I think we should really just focus on the fact that it takes some physical, intellectual, and emotional skill. Those are good things. 'Nuff said.
Ronald Reagan had a comment about nothing doing so much good for the inside of a man as the outside of a horse. Those were more innocent times.
Will there be crystals? I really want horses AND crystals.
Ohmmmmmm.
