We finally got some rain this afternoon, for the first time since the big storm (140k w/o power) three weeks ago. A lot of water, very quickly. It helps, but next week it's back to abnormal.

For some reason Bush is now in my Youtube feed and I have clip after clip of this clown jabbering about "we need to promote freedom" and "freedom is for everybody its a gift from God". And "you can only have peace when everyone is free".

And then yakking about Afghanistan women and their supposed "oppression". Bush then added

"Yeah, absolutely, it seems to me. You know, our nation occasionally goes through isolationist periods where the attitude is, we've got too many problems at home, therefore who cares what happens overseas. Which really means, to me, they just don't pay attention to the lesson of 9/11, because what happens overseas matters to our national security at home,"

Yeah right. We're currently involved in a war with Iran 5000 miles away. And we attacked them. Not to mention we have bases all over the fucking world. And are sanctioning Russia and involved in Ukraine v. Russia negotions. Where is there is this Fucking "isolationism".

And why Schoolgirls in Afghanistan. Think of all the zillions of people all over the world who are dying or living in poverty. But Bush 43 just cant stop talking about how poor little Maryam cant study physics.

Iran has been the leading state sponsor of terrorism for 50 years. I suppose you can call this a war of choice, but it seems unwise to allow them to achieve nuclear weapons. Whether there are more effective ways to prevent this is beyond my expertise. Agreed that Bush is and was a fool, and that trying to establish liberal democracies in Muslim lands is a fool's errand. But hunting down Osama and killing as many of his hosts and enablers as possible was the absolute minimum response to 9/11. Now, of course, we pretend Islam can be just another part of our colorful social patchwork, instead of what historian Tom Holland calls a "uniquely indigestible" challenge to liberal democracies. But it's nice to see a post from RCO that does not hate directly on the Jews.

“War of choice” is a nonsense phrase. It means nothing.

Every war is a war of choice. The question is whether the choice is justified. Different people will have different ideas about that. Calling this or that war a war of choice is just a way of pretending to be thoughtful and sophisticated without doing the hard work of being thoughtful and sophisticated. It’s intellectually lazy.

Venus is at magnitude -4.7 in Chicago right now. Beautiful. It’s a log scale, so -4.7 is 5 times brighter than a -3. But I read that Tucker Carleson thinks that Algebra is a Jewish plot, and has never met anyone who needs to use Algebra. What a dumb shit.

My fing God. How can we exist as a nation when a government contractor made a mistake on a federal project. Let’s just tear up the constitution and go to communism, which has never done anything wrong.

Yes. There was video of a person reaching into the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool and pulling at the new blue liner.

The June 19 video was circulated by the Interior Department and White House as evidence of vandalism. I am glad that in the course of investigation everything has been cleared up.

Well Iee how do you know that vandalism was not done? Can you prove it? And you don’t even claim to know absolute integrity but relative integrity between two people? It is amazing that you can do that. And you also know that the pool contractor is admitting the mistake because he does not want an innocent person to be blamed. He may want to avoid liability? Would have been great had there been a street blockage, using a mix of J20, anti-ICE and BLM tactics, to keep Madmani from attending the 9/11 ceremony. Just flood the street with peaceful protestors to keep his motorcade from moving. You could preserve the dignity of the ceremony by doing the blockage closer to Gracie Mansion or wherever he left from for the ceremony. Dude wants to close Rikers - make him put thousands of veterans and grannies there. Or let him watch helplessly as the NY courts release all the protestors without bail, and Trump's USAO-SDNY refuses to do them federally.

Also would send the message that the Right is still ready to hit the streets, just in case the DSA want to play fuckaround as November approaches. CC, JSM

They did. If I recall, six cases were brought forward regarding the pool being vandalized. The only person with the charges dropped was the Olympic kayaker dude.

Just because a contractor admits mistakes were made doesn't mean there wasn't vandalism, too.

A cautionary tale …

In my State of Maine in 1954 a young woman drowned her three young children. Found not fit to stand trial she was deemed innocent by reason of insanity and placed in State run psychiatric facility. In 1959 she was released, resumed her marriage, had three more kids who she killed as well.

While I believe it is possible to not be criminally responsible in some instances, there should be protection of the public by mandatory incarceration periods.

He understood that there was an element of viciousness in strangling three children, one after another. This woman, he tried to tell them, did not snap, she gave rein to her sadism. But they couldn't hear him.
