Speaking of confusion, I see no distinction between what she was doing back in the 80s and what these performers who look like her are trying to do now. Maybe that's the point she's making here.

Madonna is confused about why she's here at all and nonexplains the joke about her ass, but she'd like to say thanks for whatever this is.
Madonna was great in the early days the VMA awards, so it was nice to see her perform live:

Well, it's good the swelling has gone down, that's a plus. But.... isn't she getting a little too..... rectangular, to be wearing outfits like this one?

I agree that the dancing looks very familiar to anyone from the 80s and 90s.
She's lost a step. A younger Madonna would have removed a butt plug and preached to the audience about the liberation that comes from using one. Maybe engaged in a little lesbo action with Sabrina. But I guess now she's transitioning into the Grand Dame phase of her career and feels it important to strike a note of gravitas and dignity while accepting awards.

I have sometimes wondered why I cannot stand Madonna.

68, you say... well, that's 2 years older than me, 4 years older than my wife. We are virtually generational buddies. But the reason for the mass appeal that she still seems to garner at her age eludes me. Also, the gap in her teeth seems to have gotten wider as she has aged, and that's creepy.
She's my age, and although she looks good (great work and makeup), she obviously can barely move. I move better than that. I would think all those years of dancing would keep her limber and spry. Maybe she should try welding therapy. It worked for me. She deserves recognition for what she accomplished in pop music, but it's clearly time to hang up the dance shoes.
She was never much of a dancer. That was done by the backup dancers who carried her around and made her look good just prancing and voguing.
