El-Sayed overcame a nearly $65 million onslaught of outside money and an establishment that had rallied around Stevens. Popular Gov. Gretchen Whitmer endorsed Stevens late last month — a move seen as a last-ditch effort to stop a rising El-Sayed.
Haley Stevens is now trailing Abdul El-Sayed by fewer than 15,000 votes in Michigan after a batch of votes was reported from Wayne County. While her statewide deficit has narrowed, she will still need very strong margins in the remaining ballots to overtake El-Sayed.

Many in the party’s liberal wing are looking even beyond November. A victory by Dr. El-Sayed would fuel their ambitions in the 2028 presidential race, providing evidence that progressive candidates can win not only in deep blue areas but also across the country.

72% in Utah for Romney and 62% in Utah for McCain, but 45% in Utah for Trump in 2016 is what prompted the comment. Have we forgotten Evan McMullin so soon? The other reason for the comment was the 2016 polling during the campaign which showed that the two usually Republican voting groups that were unenthusiastic about Trump were LDS and Michigan Dutch.

Niether, if your he is Abdulrahman Mohamed El-Sayed the MI candidate he has never been a licensed physician so he can’t charge anyone or bill insurance. His licensed wife is well reported to have a payment only practice and does not see Medicare patients, everyone pays cash. (Or cash equivalent I suppose.). If you are on Medicare and want to pay cash that is probably ok though.

Yes, McMullin was a factor in 2016… should be no surprise that, much like Catholics and other sects, some LDS would vote for one of their homegrown brothers… especially those in Utah.
Nationwide, the 2016 number was much higher and improved in both 2020 and 2024. And I think 61% would constitute a landslide in just about ANY election, would it not?

No; the major media are trying to make the DSA seem less radical than it is. This follows years where "progressive" was used by both liberals and radicals to describe their views.
In the earlier editions of "Critical Race Theory: An Introduction" by Delgado and Stefancic, CRT was characterized as "radical." The more recent editions use "progressive."
Are the “Michigan Dutch” Dutch? Or are they Michigan (Pennsylvania) Dutch”? Because the “Pennsylvania Dutch” are really “Deutsch”—i.e., Germans, not Dutch.
I am familiar with several trad Michigan Dutch families and they are descended from the Netherlands. In particular Gelderland and Zealand. They are traditionally Dutch Reformed Calvinists and quite conservative.
I’m a liberal but not an anxious liberal. When Trump v. Sanders looked like a possibility in the spring of 2016, I was thinking I might be voting for Trump. Today, ten years later, I would definitely vote for Democratic Socialism over Trumpism.
Say what you want about the Democratic Socialists, Mamdani being the prime example, but they do actually have ideas that go beyond Trump hatred. Why not let them give it a try for a few years in a city or a state? Are you all afraid their successes might be popular? Their failures would help your side.
Senators don’t govern so it’s not going to hurt to have 1 or 2 more Democratic Socialist senators. The real risk comes down to things like losing the possibility of blocking the replacement of Justice Thomas or Justice Alito. But the Republican contingency plan in the event Democrats win the Senate may be to get what they need for the last 2 Trump years through in the lame duck Republican session. So, pragmatically, there is little risk.
