And at 16. So if it was the first thing she cooked she must not have been an official chef at that time, unless she is just genetically a master chef who needed no training. And if it was for the community, that is a large undertaking for someone who is 16 and had never cooked before.
So she is a fabulist.
Is anybody else wondering where this Wunderkind class came from, fronting for the DSA? All of them seemingly under 40, or around it. All of them with very limited practical experience in government. All of them coming with their own unlikely cast of characters, equally as young and green.
How does such a profile comport with suddenly finding so many candidates poised to do well? That implies that a lot of money and a lot of groundwork is in place. Nothing in politics is accidental, as the saying goes.
With radicals, we see that they are capable of organizing well, and staying below the radar. Antifa presents itself at the riots as a crowd of sorry losers, many of them obese, but within this crowd are some hard cases prone to edgy violence, and they are reporting to a command & control structure that lurks at the periphery. They have training and preparation centers.
One gets the feeling that the same is true of the DSA. Who are the funders, and more precisely, who are the people running things on the ground. Mamdani was able to turn on his nice smile and charm while campaigning, Hong is attempting to at least remain polite, but.... who are the political fixers setting all of this up? It can't be Daniel Moraff and Leanne Fan, the two supposed political operatives that set up Platner to become a candidate: They're cut from the same cloth, young kids. Same for Morris Katz, the political strategist.
No, I think there are more steady hands holding the reins, here. Can't wait to find out who is actually running things, the political consigliere. These untested radicals are having the path cleared for them by someone with experience and connections. You don't just wander into a studio for an interview. Where is out 'inside baseball' view?

I'm with Eva Marie: this is neither academic nor aesthetic..I want all these shiny new socialists and communists to be readily discernible for the resentment-driven, "I advocate for class struggle because I know I'll be one of the last standing" liars they are.
Yes. I believe some of them are true believers, up to a point: I think some of them truly believe that "capitalism" is both deliberate and evil, rather than simply a description, an artifact of human nature - to make a thing and then trade it for another thing that one needs or wants but can't make oneself. That their belief - those who actually believe it and aren't just pretending - is ahistorical and doesn't hold up to the most cursory scrutiny is simply unfortunate for them: they'll have to contend with the collision of their beliefs with reality.
Or maybe they won't. We saw how long it took for the Soviet system to collapse even though it was clear from very early days that it had no shot. We see now how the Chinese system is going - what is it, "socialism with capitalistic elements"? Whatever they call it - they're maintaining the curtailment of personal liberties for the vast majority of their citizens in order to build a temporarily workable economy on the backs of Chinese capitalists, who go along with it because it's easier, if more frustrating, than competing in the actual market. It could be generations before the harm that Hong and her *ilk* will do are revealed as the inevitabilities that history shows they are.
In the meantime, no thanks, I won't celebrate her rhetoriical skill, such as it is, because it's in service of something evil.
There’s a group of geezers who like to line the main road into my town by my house holding signs for Democrats - to catch the attention of cars coming up for vacation. If Hong wins the primary I might need to get out there with a different sign. And recruit friends (also geezers) to join me.

You know what a painful national day is for me, and millions like me? April 15th. I actually get robbed in my own home. They take a huge chunk of what I make. l o fucking l. Brilliant indeed. Who, by the way, is Thanksgiving painful for? I mean, it sucks for people that have to work on Thanksgiving. A day off is a day off. I am led to believe that a fall day of thanks is something fairly common throughout many cultures and histories. Anyway, what is apparent, Hong, and those like her, have no affinity for anything that is culturally American because they do not fundamentally like America. Fundamentally, then, she and those of a like mind, should be kept as far away from positions of authority as possible.
Is it good political rhetoric? I can see your point. But always remember that when the Francesca Hong's of this world are really in power, the lives of those who dare disagree with them are forfeited. Communism has a long and consistent track record. It's not bad - it's evil.
For the love of all that is entertaining, elect her. I give her a week, two at most, after swearing in before something from her past comes up that is even more unpalatable, and she returns to her present glorious state of citizen/crapfest.
I'm still struggling to reconcile the idea of her, fleeing a restaurant because there were too many white people sitting there as customers, with her, as a chef preparing meals, working in a restaurant that was likely full of mostly white people, day in and day out.
