This is Francesca Hong, a Democratic Socialist who is ahead in the polls for the Democratic Party nomination for Wisconsin governor, speaking in the streets of Madison yesterday after a fatal shooting by the police.

For background on the polling: "Democratic socialist leads Wisconsin Democratic gubernatorial field: Poll" (The Hill).

For background on the shooting: "Wisconsin officer kills man armed with knife, police say, as shooting sparks protests/Madison police said that after a chase and a struggle, a man who was being sought pulled out a knife and injured an officer, which led to the deadly shooting" (NBC News)("Videos of the shooting were captured by bystanders and were circulated online. One of them, verified by NBC News, appears to show officers holding on to the man as someone yells, 'Let go!' Multiple shouts of 'He’s got a knife!' can be heard....The shooting was not captured on body camera video, which the Madison Police Department does not widely use").

ADDED: Interrupting the Concerts on the Square can't be the best way to win over moderates. It was a beautiful day and this is an extremely well-established and much-loved Madison tradition:
AND: Here's bystander video of the incident.

She went on Hasan Piker's show. Piker's a madman who celebrates 9/11 and thinks Mao was a great leader. Also he shocks his dog.

Vote for 2 minute hate in Wisconsin!

I believe the word is “stuck”, Iman. That’s what they said Karmelo Anthony did when he was disturbed from minding his own business. In Madison, this guy was just riding around checking to make sure people lock their car doors when the police interrupted him.

The question for me is, do these people really believe the BS they spout, or is it mostly opportunistic role playing? Because if they really think that way, God help us all.

Well...she seems pretty gutless.

Wanted man, pulls out knife and stabs officer. Gets shot.
Gotta say, this used to be normal results when you are a wanted man who runs from police, then turns and stabs the cop trying to bring you in.
This would be a Tuesday in any major city a few years ago. Now? Now it's a 'state sponsored execution'? Please.

If this is what the left intends to keep running on, let them. And good luck to you Madisonians if this becomes your next Governor. We've got more room for Wisconsinites here in Florida.

Tom Tiffany, Republican running for governor, is quoted in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

"Francesca Hong willingly appeared on the livestream of someone who has said America 'deserved 9/11,' praised Hezbollah terrorists and claimed, 'It doesn’t matter if rapes happened on October 7,'" Tiffany said in a statement. "If the other Democrat candidates for governor refuse to condemn these statements, they’re making one thing clear: this is the extremism today’s Democrat Party fully embraces."

She raised $57,000 doing the interview, so it's not like Piker helped much with the fund-raising. I don't think you could buy a 30-second ad on a soap opera for $57,000.

Apparently Politico sampled a list of Democrats who might run for president in 2028, to ask them if they would appear on Piker's show.

Are there moderates in Madison/Dane County?
There are, but few and far between.
I’ve lived in Dane County for decades. You have to really search for moderates.
Also, my husband worked at a local hospital for decades and at one point there was a hospital wide memo that went out that said stated employees needed to stop talking politics in the while in the presence of patients. Patients had been complaining about how they were worried if they would be taken care of appropriately if they had different political beliefs. And trust me, it was ALWAYS the DEMS who were sharing their opinions anywhere and everywhere.

The WaPo on Hong.

Wisconsin has a long history of socialism. For much of the first half of the 20th century, Milwaukee was led by socialist mayors who championed “sewer socialism” by focusing on infrastructure and public housing. Wisconsin voters elected a socialist to Congress and sent others to the state legislature.

In her convention speech, Hong cited progressive iconoclasts like Robert “Fighting Bob” LaFollette, a representative, governor and senator more than a century ago who “imagined a better world and fought like hell to realize it.”

Yeah, but did those socialists hate the Jews?

She found new progressive allies last month by appearing on streams with Piker and Michael Beyer, who is known as Mike from PA. Piker has said he would “vote for Hamas over Israel every single time,” and Beyer has said Jewishness is a “demonic ethnicity, wholly invented.”

Hong “is willing to sell out the Jews of Wisconsin for a few bucks,” Ann Jacobs, chair of the state Democratic Party’s Jewish caucus, said in a post on social media.

Yeah, she sold her soul for $57,000. That's not even Wales.

I believe Nate Silver has just documented what's going on in places like Madison:

"Liberal polling analyst Nate Silver has crunched the numbers and believes he has found a distinct demographic that becomes attracted to the ideas of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA). You may be unsurprised to learn that higher education plays a key role.

According to Silver, the DSA attracts people who are highly educated, yet lack upward mobility. They feel they are owed success because of their credentials."

G.O.P. Appears to Boost Socialist’s Primary Campaign for Wisconsin Governor ~ NYT

'Republicans seem to view Francesca Hong as their weakest opponent in a general election. They are spending $2.2 million in an apparent attempt to aid her primary campaign.'

Saying things people want to hear and proving your ability to lead are two different things. She is raised much less money than the other principal candidates and has no previous statewide campaigning experience.

Hong was recently polling in the 20s. A solid showing in a crowded field, but if there is any consolidation, she's not going to win. Progressive policies are broadly popular, with most of the pillars having majority support. But the branding is off, and the "socialist" tag does not help. Democrats with money will start spending heavily in the final month of the race to try to make sure one of the Hong alternatives moves on.

At least Hong reserves most of her criticism for her natural enemies rather than her natural allies, as so many on the left compulsively do. She deserves respect for that.

"That said, [Ruiz] had to know nothing much would happen to him."

This is precisely what emboldened Decarlos Dejuan Brown Jr. to brutally murder Iryna Zarutska on a Charlotte Metro train last August. Brown had been arrested at least 14 times before committing that vile capital crime. His criminal record included multiple charges for armed robbery, felony larceny, and assault. But after each arrest, he was released by the Democrat-controlled Mecklenburg County establishment on bond and seldom brought to trial. From that experience, Brown learned he was immune from the consequences law-abiding people wrongly assume are being imposed by faithful enforcement of the law. Once the Democrats gain power, that reasonable expectation is flushed down the toilet.

I think the right to self-defense is useful in explaining these protests. These people are imagining a collective right to self-defense. The violence they are protesting against is not the criminal acts of a crazed madman but rather the imagined cruelty of the oligarchs and White Supremacists and their henchmen (the police). The protesters want food (good food from Whole Foods not Aldi), a luxury apartment and health care and they are unwilling to work and pay for it. A Tesla would also be nice. And the protesters want to take these things from wealthier people and will commit violence to do so. They think of their actions as "defensive."

Forestry workers in America were mostly far left. After the Bolshevik Revolution, there was a need for forestry workers since the current workers were too reactionary and needed to be "removed" from their jobs. The forestry workers here heeded the call. Some 6,000 to 10,000 of them went to Russia to fulfill the ideals of the revolution. There they prospered and lived happily every after. It's an inspiring story........Well, actually, those who weren't shot outright were sent to the Gulags during Stalin's purges.......Stalin was absurdly paranoiac about foreign workers. As well he should be. Just a handful of Bolsheviks on that train to the Finand station were able to overthrow a three hundred year old dynasty. I believe their numbers were much less that ..004%..

The PTB will try to portray this as the guy being shot after he is already immobilized. They will ignore the guy's cutting the cop, or just blame that on the cop for using improper restraint techniques. And since the cut cop is also the shooting cop, they will portray the shooting as anger/retaliation rather than the cop meeting the guy's lethal force with his own.

Notice that no one used the Chauvin knee-to-trapezius technique, which would have kept the guy solidly on the ground and limited what he could do with the knife.

Shooting the guy while he is surrounded by other coppers is not the best thing to do - even though you are angling down, the bullet could do a sliding ricochet on the pavement and hit your partner. And since the guy is still resisting and not firmly held to the ground by the Chauvin method, he might get up again, and you might instinctively keep tracking him and shoot horizontally, hitting your partner even if you hit the bad guy: at such a close distance, that bullet has nearly its whole muzzle velocity and may just keep on trucking out the other side of the bad guy. But all that is a training issue - nothing that should make the copper liable civilly or criminally.

But it is a blue city in a blue state.

The official autopsy showed that he had a sometimes level of fentanyl in his system. Floyd was removed from the police car, placed on his side, and the call for an ambulance changed from Code 3 to Code 2, in response to clear indications of a narcotics OD (masked earlier by the meth in his system). And, in the autopsy, there were no bruises identified from the use of that technique.

He was walking away from Jason Van Dyke when Van Dyke shot him. He fell from the first shot, the last 15 were after McDonald fell. He stopped shooting when he ran out on bullets. Van Dyke was the only cop who fired. It was an execution.

POS Rahm Emanuel withheld the video for a year, and it was ruled that McDonald lunged at JVD and said it was a justified shooting. After Emanuel was re-elected, the video finally came out and once the truth came out first degree murder charges were brought.

"He pulled a knife on the police and got shot? What is the protest for?"

So they can pull knives and stab police and not get shot.

Which just proves that Chicago justice boils down to who-whom.

Also, McDonald was moving away from JVD, but into a populated working class neighborhood of bungalows (my aunt used to live there), in the middle of the night, when he had already tried to break through the glass windows of a Burger King and CPD squad cars. Stop him now, or stop him after he's stabbed some Mexican blue collar family. CC, JSM

“bLACK LIVES MATTER!!!”, they shouted, without evidence

RideSpaceMountain చెప్పారు...

@JSM, Chicago's long-time motto regarding justice and everything:

"We don't want nobody nobody sent."

RideSpaceMountain చెప్పారు...

The amount that black lives matter is proportional to how much blacks matter to other blacks, and that should be the standard.

So, Althouse. When does the "FOR SALE" sign go up? Or are you planning on being eaten last?

Madisonians by and large don't give a shit about POC. But they very much want to be perceived as caring about POC. Of course the same can be said for most lefties.

Do we run with DSA Panic again or Trans Panic again today? ~ MAGA

In an era of mass unaffordability, Middle East wars, ICE killings, and a president siphoning billions of dollars from his office, the time has come for an alarmist op-ed about Democratic Socialists winning House primaries.

Where are the boogaloo boys? I miss their white boy faces, dark glasses, hawaiian shirts, and Winsconsin Crimes - that they pinned on innocent black foks.

I cant say I'm too broken up about it.
Maybe if I'd gotten to know him better.
Assuming he didn't rob or assault me

The don't *want* to win over moderates. If they had their druthers, moderates would be *shot*.

I hope they riot. We need some good old fashioned "peaceful protests" before the election. Board up your homes!!!!

Things must be pretty good in the plywood aisle at the Madison hardware store. I recommend installing permament hurricane screws along the windows: you sink them once and they come with not unattractive plastic caps to cover them when not in use. Then you don't have to keep screwing new holes. In the plywood, that is.

I’d like to say the people in Madison don’t deserve it but good and hard has become the appropriate response. These people aren’t the next batch of Democrats to fawn over, they’re dumber and meaner, like orcs…

This is not the appropriate attitude. Madison Wisconsin is run by traitors and foreign invaders.

Republicans would win in Madison or anywhere in the country if you had to show ID to vote on a paper ballot and the ballots were counted on election day.

But we have allowed a group of thieves to pay foreign mercenaries with our tax money to invade our country and squat in our cities where they attack American citizens on a daily basis.

Democrats want to take our stuff.

They are thieves and fascists.

They want us to stop shooting the foreign mercenaries they are hiring with tax dollars to fight us.

It's the Obama way.
“If they bring a knife to the fight, we bring a gun,” Obama said in Philadelphia last night. “Because from what I understand, folks in Philly like a good brawl. I’ve seen Eagles fans.”
