A woman can be traditionally feminine, masculine, or anywhere in between without that saying anything about whether she’s transgender. Likewise, someone who is transgender isn’t simply reacting to stereotypes about masculinity or femininity.

I agree it’s important for young people to see that women don’t have to fit narrow gender norms. But that doesn’t mean everyone questioning their gender is just a masculine woman or an effeminate man. The standard idea is that transwomen are seeking to feel comfort within their own body. So why the desperate oversmiling? It's interesting that she says that her questions are designed to serve all audiences, while conservatives see those questions as being in service to a media system that they have come to believe is so thoroughly biased, it is incapable allowing itself to be even-handed, even accidentally.

I don't watch TV so I've never seen a full interview with her. The examples I've seen would tend to confirm the fundamental unfairness of CNNs approach. For me, it's highly biased.

Now the event: The history of the WHCD, as I recall, is to offer a venue in the format of a gentle roast, where the correspondents and politicians let their hair down and tease one another, but the whole point is that it is done in a lighthearted way, for fun, to show the humanity outside of politics.

Except, when it's Trump. Then it's portrayed as either a circus or a slaughterhouse, depending on the lie that is being communicated. Or a Stewart implies, Trump bombed and it was a morgue. So you see, it's always different when it's Trump, yet again.
