The Republican never wins the governorship in Colorado, so what do Republican primary voters think they are doing?

I'm reading "He Says He Killed a Man. Republicans Nominated Him Anyway" by Michelle Goldberg in the NYT.
The right-wing preacher turned politician Victor Marx has said that he first killed a man when he was 7. He’s not sure how many deaths he’s been responsible for since. Marx has been arrested at least twice for disorderly conduct and has described terrorizing a psychiatrist with talk of murdering him. He told the Colorado journalist Kyle Clark that he can perform exorcisms by phone. On Thursday he was declared the winner of the Republican gubernatorial primary in Colorado....
The last time the Republican won the governorship, it was 2002.

Goldberg leaves out the details about that killing. Grok relays the story as told by Marx: "severe childhood abuse (physical, sexual, and emotional) by multiple figures, including being beaten, electrocuted, tortured, and nearly killed (e.g., left in a cooler).... stepfather placing a gun in his hands, guiding his finger to pull the trigger, and shooting a man in the back of the head...."

Here's Marx talking to Charlie Kirk 4 years ago:

Well there are a LOT of municipalities around the country that have literally never had a Republican elected or last elected one decades back into the last century. Using “never” as a reference to 2002 is just retarded.

Wilbur કહ્યું...

I looked at some (Left - slanted) material about him online. He sounds sketchy enough to be a Democrat nominee for Senator.

He'll be running against the current Dem Colorado Attorney General, Phil Weiser. On Ballotpedia, Weiser chafes at the Colorado Taxpayer Bill of Rights which he describes as "obscure formulas approved decades ago and locked into our constitution make it impossible to fully fund schools and infrastructure". Hahahaha.

well, if they "never win the Governorship" what difference does it make WHO they nominate? They've tried milk toast.. it doesn't work

Christopher B કહ્યું...

If Michelle Goldberg didn't have double standards she'd have no standards at all.

As far as 'last elected in 2002' vs 'never', Colorado had a Republican governor for 8 out of the last 50 years. The 50 years before that (1925-1975) was pretty close to 50/50.

Bruce Hayden કહ્યું...

I was talking earlier today with my next brother who still lives there in CO. We both spent much of our lives in CO, as it moved from Red, then Purple. Then abruptly dark Blue, after the state imposed mail in balloting. I remember commenting, at the time, that that was the last that we would see for quite some time of honest elections. And that prediction has come true. I know a lot of Republicans there, but not a single Democrat. And, not surprisingly, the longer the state has mail in voting, the more corrupt the Legislature allows it to be. It’s not as corrupt as CA or MN, or maybe NY is - yet, buts it’s on its way.

It would be interesting to get my late mother’s take on the level of election corruption in the state. She was the CO state chair of the politics committee and head lobbyist for the state League of Women Voters. That meant maybe 4 days a week at the Capital for most of a decade, lobbying and tracking legislation.

rehajm કહ્યું...

The View ladies lectured me that holding your nose and pulling the lever for criminally flawed candidates is the right thing to do…

Racket News (Matt Taibbi) did a special podcast recently on “Twitter Gate”. It is a great primer on the election fraud that’s coming.

“ As far as 'last elected in 2002' vs 'never', Colorado had a Republican governor for 8 out of the last 50 years. The 50 years before that (1925-1975) was pretty close to 50/50.”

The last two Republican governors before that 50 years of mostly dry spell had sons in my fraternity house. Which meant Christmas parties at the Governor’s mansion. Then, the first of the Dems in that long stretch was Gov Gloom (Dick Lamn). My mother (by then LWM legislative chair) was buddies with him. He got her vote by being the first to send invites to her and her husband, instead of to Mr and Mrs Hayden. The father-in-law of his successor, Roy Roamer, baptized me. He knew my parents from a church group (since his FIL was the head minister). He ultimately lost their votes by having a girlfriend - taking the side of his wife, Bea, after it all came out - prominently in the Denver papers.

From that link re exorcism, Kyle Clark on X:

Victor Marx performs exorcisms, commanding demons to be cast off.

Marx says he doesn't charge for exorcisms but instructions appeared in a $99 Spiritual Warfare Guide on his website.

"Do you understand why so many of your critics think you're a con man," I asked.

"No," he said

LOL. Perhaps he can prove himself by exorcising the crazy out of the Blue team. Taking one to know one, as they say.

Achilles કહ્યું...

They allow mail in voting and have an open primary.

Michelle Goldberg is a piece of shit. Nobody has any idea who actually voted for Marx.

Democrats do not believe in democracy by any measure of the term. They just need to be shipped to China where they belong.

Freder Frederson કહ્યું...

This is exactly the point of Goldberg's dishonest article.

It allows dishonest pieces of shit like Freder to claim Republicans voted for this guy, even though it was an open primary with mail in votes.

Freder knows that nobody knows who actually voted for this guy. Colorado's voting system is opaque by design because democrats do not want auditable transparent elections.

Democrats are just dishonest pieces of shit who do not care about democracy at all and only see it as a tool to seize and maintain power.

Dave Begley કહ્યું...

NYT: Marx is worse than Platner. So there!

Freder Frederson કહ્યું...

Goldberg also left out how Marx gave us Big Wheels, Rock’em Sock’em Robots, Fort Apache and little green army men.

Freder Frederson કહ્યું...

"Freder knows that nobody knows who actually voted for this guy. Colorado's voting system is opaque by design because democrats do not want auditable transparent elections."

Now explain George Santos and Dennis Hastert.

rcommal કહ્યું...

So, what's the consensus? Do you all think that this guy is a good candidate for governor? That this is the sort of guy that should be a governor or otherwise serve as a public official?

Because that strikes me as the fundamental questions. Is he or isn't he? Yes or no, no buts either way.

I'd say: No. The same with Platner.

Typically, I leave other states to the people of those other states. Different people etc. for different places.Yet the trend lines aren't great. Can't we do better? It seems to me that there is massive poor judgment on the part of politicians, political operatives, donors, and, yes, we the people.

Obviously, there are so many candidates out there, and of course most aren't this egregious. But it seems to me our standards have gotten too low. "Our" asshole is a poor excuse for selecting a candidate, no matter the party.

Regards,

Lori (reader_iam).

Mr. D કહ્યું...

**Now explain George Santos and Dennis Hastert.**

I never voted for either of them, nor did I have the opportunity to vote for them.

Mike (MJB Wolf) કહ્યું...

Hastert and Santos? amr કહ્યું...

It might be worth noting that Marx won by about 3,500 votes out of 523,000 (39.9% to 39.4%) over a sitting state senator. The remaining 20.8% went to a sitting state rep.

Achilles કહ્યું...

Freder Frederson said...

Exactly.

2 perfect examples of why we need paper ballots one day voting with photo ID and purple thumbs with publicly available and auditable voter rolls with pictures and addresses.

But we all know why fascist shitheads like Freder don't want open honest auditable elections.

Leland કહ્યું...

“So, what's the consensus?

Typically, I leave other states to the people of those other states.”

My only interest in Platner was watching the excuses being made. I’m sure that’s the same with Marx, except I don’t see anyone making excuses. What I see is people pointing out his behavior and then accusing others that pointed it out as condoning it. Wild.

As amr notes above, the guy didn’t win a majority. He’s as popular as Kier Starmer and that was fun since we got to watch from afar.

Achilles કહ્યું...

No no no no no. You are missing the point here.

3500 mail in ballots stuffed in the back of a DSA office for Victor Marx mean that all republicans are bad, they should be censored and thrown in jail, and it is OK for crazy people to try to kill Donald Trump.

Goldberg wants her little fascist shithead minions like Freder to get the message and he got the message.

In the party system, candidates, particularly in primaries, are "grown" in vats tended by party activists. Today, with the low engagement of "ordinary" people in party politics, those activists are usually very radical (or just crazy) in comparison to mainstream voters.

Changing that system is hard, as to get elected you need the party's backing and a nod from today's leader, who is him/herself often a radical activist or is dependent on the activist vote to stay in power as a leader.

Voters — particularly in the US — are de facto hostages of this system and whatever they think, they are forced to vote for whatever leader the activists will select (like Mamdani in NY -- no wonder that he is now fighting against open primaries).

Temujin કહ્યું...

Sounds like he'd make a perfect Democrat and I think the Democrats must have seen an easy and quick way to sabotage the CO-GOPs nomination process. I agree with them on this. Rush Limbaugh tried this years ago in Operation Chaos, which tried to push Hillary forward against Barack- just to cause mayhem.
Now, with open primaries matched up with mail in balloting, the party in power can pretty much manipulate every election going forward.
Colorado will become California sooner than later. And like California, people will have to start making choices about staying or leaving.
