It is a very pretty little house and the pictures make it look bigger than 730 sq ft. But almost 2.5 million total cost? She could have gotten more for less.
"Close to nature"? She's a lot closer to those unnatural houses of her neighbors, a tiddlywink flip away. The only nature that she is really close to is that huge tree right in the middle of her very expensive bay view. A fool's errand, that house. Glad she's happy.

Beautiful area, Bodega Bay. But it's not immune to erosion, earthquakes, or- as they refer to them on the West Coast- atmospheric rivers. I wonder if this house and its future has shown up on Kalshi yet.

I've had the darndest time reading this story. Some time ago, I bought a used paperback from Amazon that contained it. The last two pages of the story were missing. I just bought another book (Kindel) that was supposed to contain the story. It did not.

A house on stilts over rocky terrain overlooking water in the most earthquake prone state in the nation.

It’s more than an earthquake-prone state: The house sits literally on the San Andreas fault. If you look at a map and see Point Reyes just south of Bodega Bay, that land used to be part of the Tehachapi Mountains in Southern California that moved north over millions of years and thousands of giant earthquakes. I don’t see adequate shear bracing in the stilts the house rests on, but what do I know.
That house isn’t hovering
Designing for earthquakes is pretty straight-forward work, and for that location would be highly regulated. In the offshore industry, they typically design for 1,000 or 2,000 year events, on that level. And even then, the failure mechanisms are characterized, i.e., they design for failure of structural members, but the structure survives to preserve life. If she has built to the codes, however precarious it looks, it's probably reasonable to presume it could withstand a substantial event.
At 750 sq ft, that’s not really tiny. I would have squowze in a second room. Don’t need a tea area—need a couch that you can actually sit on.
Looks like they did a good design job. It has a massive foundation wall in back that resists horizontal twist so the columns in front will just be in compression. It looks like a nice scenic house, if you are willing to pay for it.
