I have always wondered what I would be when I grow up, but instead now I guess I need to think about retiring. Not sure about it so I may just not do it.

But I have had such a hard old life I think ill just be sitting in a shack at the timberline in Leadville CO when I m 100 pouring on the woodsman’s fly dope pouring down the smithwicks and stacking aspen wood, and won’t need no long term care except from the blue eyed mountain sweeties. Alaska might be better, fewer people.

It's no use taxing the rich when the money just goes to welfare fraud. There'd be enough for a substantial increase in benefits for the truly needy if the blue cities went after fraud. Otherwise, tax the rich is just another fraud. The money will go into the pockets of city council members by various contrivances. Just compare the rate at which city council members begin to get rich when they are elected with the rate at which the lives of the citizens improves following any election. Compare the rising wealth of Mamdani's friends and relations with increasing size of the citizens' tent cities in New York. That tells you where all the new tax-the-rich dollars are going - and will go. As they always say: Real socialism has never been tried anywhere and it isn't being tried in New York City either, it's just that Unreal Socialism, its evil twin, is failing there as usual.

We live in Weimar times, the situation which, in Germany, led to the rise of the Nazis, who are rising here. For awhile after World War Ii we understood in this country that citizens need a decent economy in which it's reasonable to expect to be able to support a family by working, not grifting. Or else the Weimar to Nazi arrow starts to fly. At that time, manufacturing and construction were the number 1 and 2 employers as had been true in America since colonial times. Now they are numbers 13 and 15. This is because in the Nineties "we" sold all our manufacturing to China. "We" or rather, the wealthiest businessmen in towns across America sold the business basis of the town, and pocketed the proceeds for themselves. That money went into trust funds and their children, living off that stolen capital, are using a small portion of the proceeds to sell socialism and welfare as the solution to the difficulties created by the thefts of their fathers in towns and cities across America.
Into this situation comes Donald Trump, who, very significantly, was in construction and building in the Eighties, Ninities and on. He saw what happened. He decided to rectify the situation. The trust fund babies hate him, naturally, a squall furiously, shouting dirty words, like the babies they are.

And that's our politics today.
Do something about the capital wealth steal that impoverished America. Build a new economy -Trump.
Throw a nickel, a 5% tax, to the people whose economy you trust-funders stole. Call the nickel - Socialism.

People like Elon Musk and the tech lords, they aren't the people who did the capital steal of the Nineties. They got money by innovating since then. They made what we have left of an economy. Wrecked the towns that grew with the businesses. Left the money to their arrogant Commie/Nazi children. Who call themselves progressives. "Our democracy", they say. And the democracy they are talking about is theirs. It isn't "We the people;" it's the thugs and their NGO friends, the sons and daughters of the Big Steal.

@gadfly, the us gummit works with the international rescue committee to identify hot spots in the world and prioritize refugees from that area. In the early 2000s, it was Sudanese refugees, followed by Burmese, Burundi, and the evergreen Nigerian Christians, who are always on a hit list. South Africa is conducting a genocide against boer farmers who have been there for over 400 years. Would you eliminate them from consideration based on race?
