Last son, his wife, and last remaining grandchild has left. All the love for my 80th birthday celebration was great, but now comes the clean up. We always pay for what we receive, don’t we?
U.S. and Iran Trade New Rounds of Attacks in Fight Over Strait of Hormuz ~ WSJ
'The U.S. launched multiple rounds of strikes on Iranian targets, while Iran attacked civilian ships in the key waterway'
Passage through Hormuz can't be a serious problem. Remember JD Vance told us in June the U.S. "has all the cards."
The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. The same might be said of the behavior of many patients suffering from dementia. It is no wonder that Trump keeps having to do cognitive tests. He is failing this one test, badly.
All-Star Break. Lot of teams still in playoff contention.
I fear The Dodgers will win again. If the Brewers win, the lock-out/strike could be averted. A small market team hasn’t won since the Royals in 2015. The Rays are the last small market team to play in the World Series. 2020.
Level 3 drought conditions here in coastal NC. Automated irrigation now banned. Last bill, we used 10x amount of water on irrigation than on household use!
Point of clarification. My birthday was a couple days ago, but sons and their families came in for the celebration starting late Friday. All four grandkids were here yesterday and overnight — the oldest is 4 years and a month, and the youngest is 2 years and 3 months, so they’re mostly able to play together.. Since we have toys in the basement from when their daddies were little, the kids never run out of things to play with — (and mischief to get into). I was born to be a grandfather, and I’m loving it.
“He [Mitch] explained the long silence about his condition by saying that “folks of my generation often hesitate to share the vulnerability that comes with growing older.” “Even in the public eye, I feel that same instinct — I can’t help it,” he said.” This is fine with me. But in that case, you should have resigned.
So Lindsey Graham died of an aortic dissection. I don't think that qualifies as a "brief and sudden illness". Sudden, certainly. But "brief" only in the limit.
It shows what contempt McConnell and his wife had for the voters in Kentucky. Nothing but radio silence for 3 weeks, and then when the Kentucky Governor writes an offical letter asking McConnell to tell us what's going on, he waits another couple days before replying.
Who the hell cares that he "wants to keep things private"? We weren't asking for his private medical details, just that he was alive and able to work.
I get mad at these Senators for thinking they're aristocrats and not working for us, but then so many Americans think of them as Lords and Ladies and we should be happy when they toss us a few crumbs, I get more understanding.
Act like a gullible rube and a serf and you'll get treated as one.
I don't mean to sound cold hearted, but I'm hoping news of Cocaine Mitch and Lindsey Grams passing should maybe serve to perhaps kindle an interest in some of the more senior conservative Supremes, to not wait any longer, and retire before their heavenly number is called. There. I ruined it.
@LVB: We still use phones (with push buttons rather than a dial). Anyone we hire under 30 gets a lesson in using them. They’ve never heard a dial tone or a busy signal or added a 1 before an area code. All new to them.
Jon Root @JonnyRoot_ · Follow It’s no coincidence the WNBA has promoted the two losers of the last presidential election (Tim Walz & Kamala Harris) the past 24 hours…
They’re an unapologetically political league that promotes Democrat policies, ideals & politicians.
"At just 20 years old, MonaLisa is already an unstoppable force. Fearless in both character and performance, she’s carved out an identity worlds apart from her sister’s clean-cut activist image. She has grown from the ashes of the press storm that was her childhood into a superstardom all her own."
…the NFL, a league that will hint down a fan who disseminates without express written consent but claims it no control over its own racist halftime show, a league that forced players to bend the knee…who refuses the pr of a white house visit in favor of a white house boycott…the NFL is an divisive, unserious league.
…toes up is the written deal for the Supremes. Blame voters for Mitch and the rest. Voters need to be vigilant, more clever than their political ally-opponents. Just ask the GOP establishment in Indiana…
Lem, Graham was in fine health. Better than many younger Congresscritters. He just completed a long, complicated trip with a lot of time sitting on planes. That may have predicated this crisis. A construction friend of mine, 30, strong as an ox, almost died of a blood clot after being wedged into a seat for 8 hours waiting for jury duty.
Mitch is another subject. There I agree. But should Sotomayor leave the Supreme Court because she has type 1 (genetic) diabetes and is still obese? Her face indicates serious kidney problems, which alter judgment. I could name a hundred such examples. Many to do with age, but many not.
Back in November of last year, my father developed blood clots from a car trip from Tampa to Georgia. We were lucky that the clots didn’t travel up beyond his lower midsection of his body. He was in a lot of pain and discomfort. He couldn’t even talk. Anything he did caused agonizing pain. We drove him to the hospital and they admitted him right away. Several nurses then doctors came in asking questions until they determined to do test that would definitely show what was the cause of the pain. Doctors told us ‘no more long car trips for him’. My father is 89.

This is what they call the 'Many Happy Returns', Big Mike. All the best on your birthday.

Yep, Iran just can't learn from experience.

His wife just got back from China with his orders.
He is a fucking traitor.
If he is still alive he should be executed.
Two great world cup games this week AND the Open. What a great sports week.

At this point, it probably makes more sense for him to ride it out until November. I doubt Kentucky republicans would appreciate the extra falderal.

Whether a commenter is too good for Althouse comments, or not good enough for them, or just right, is a decision for Anne and Meade and no one else.

I detect no attempt to put anybody on.
WNBA Sophie Cunningham was the special guest octagon girl for the UFC329 co-main event... it's the girl with the round number placard.
Dana White says it was all spontaneous, she asked to do it that night and he agreed. She took off her shoes.
She has what I would characterize as a disarming smile. She's going places... with her shoes back on.

BTW, the under 30s hate talking on the phone. Everything is text now. They get nervous and tongue tied and avoid phone calks at all costs.
