Write about whatever you want in the comments... except for the "frozen zone" in NYC and the Vance's henhouse. There are new posts for that, just below this one.
East of Montreal is where we're staying. A little farther east is a wine and cider region, and although I'm not a fan of apple anything, we went to a cidrerie today that's been in continuous operation since 1901 - on a bootleg basis during their Prohibition period. Absolutely delicious! The palate for cider seems to be different here - I've never had an American cider that, no matter how dry it was, wasn't reminiscent of apples. Maybe this is a feature for many - for me it's a bug. These ciders were essentially wine. Oh, and eiswein, and brandy (but not like Calvados). Add in the typical lovely view of the orchards, including their five hectares of rare, in this area, Geneva apples, which enable them to make a pink "rosé" cider (and other pink-tinted beverages, all with a wonderful acidity).
Looking forward to more exploration of the environs of Montreal!
Yesterday my wife predicted that the American left would use the US team’s defeat as an occasion to demonstrate their antipathy towards all things American. She’s been right.
Mitch McConnell is still AWOL. A Republican talking head says he spoke to mitch in the hospital for 20 minutes and got his views on current events and that mitch is "Recovering". But no audio. No video. Not even a cellphone picture of Mitch giving us a thumbs up.
Before the massive heart attack he was in a wheel chair and needed his aides to tell him what to say. But I'm sure he's OK, and will back to the Senate in no time.
"Millions of black-clad mourners flooded Tehran's streets for the historic multi-day funeral procession of Iran's slain Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The massive six-day event stretched from Tehran to holy cities like Qom and Mashhad"
Amazingly, we didnt drone strike the funeral. Think of all the schoolgirls and old men we could've killed! What a juicy target.
And the big story on PBS newshour was Trump considering the sale of F-35s to Turkey. I was wondering why this was even a one paragraph note in the WaPo when the PBS Reporter chick said that "Israel is concerned". Well that does it. Who cares if Turkey is our NATO ally. Israel has doubts.
One wonders how long patriotic Americans - assuming there even some left - will keep quiet while this tiny country tells us what to do.
Maybe already mentioned in an earlier thread, but I’ve been having visions of Bernie Sanders having a private conversation with Platner and telling him how Bernie got the DNC to pay for his second and third homes.
This is a sincere request that the lefties learn to control their emotions and cease and desist on their habitual chimping out with their comments every single day.
Sadly, I think the turtle is on his back and will never get right again. but that's what happens when you're an 84 y/o that should've given up power years ago.
I wonder what power the DNC had over Joey Biden, since like many of our power mad oldsters (cf: McCain and Feinstein) they wont leave the stage unless carried out - feet first.
Its not a recent phenomenon. FDR knew he was dead man walking in April 44 - but lied to the American people about his health so the could get re-elected and serve till he died in April 45. His doctors and all his associates kept the truth from the US public for almost 25 years after his death.
And Wilson's wife and staff were more or less President for a year and a half after his stroke. Guess telling the US public the truth was too much bother.
🚨 JUST IN: The Maine Democrat Party has just went public, accusing Graham Platner (D) of basically HOLDING THEM HOSTAGE, REFUSING to drop out over r*pe allegations unless he can choose his successor for Senate
Brutal INTERNAL WAR!
MAINE DEMS: "Platner's team has repeatedly reached out to us in an attempt to put their thumb on the scale of what this process looks like!"
"We said they have NO ROLE in determining our next nominee for the US Senate."
Maine Democrats think they have the power, but I don't believe it's possible to take Platner off the ballot unless (a) he agrees to do so by 5:00 p.m. Monday, less than six days from now, or (b) he dies before some date I do not know and am too lazy to look up. I would watch my back if I were he. And staying in isn't necessarily stupid. Susan Collins is 73, which isn't all that old by politician standards, but there's a non-trivial chance she will die or be disabled before the election, leaving Platner as a shoo-in. (I'm also 73, and in good health, but I'm certainly feeling a bit unsure whether I'll still be alive in four months - odds are very good, but I should probably write a will, just in case.) To conclude, I would watch my back if were Susan Collins.

There's a really great movie Sandra Bullock did, 10 years ago. It's called Our Brand Is Crisis. I thought it was pretty good, the first time I saw it. Now I think it's outstanding, maybe the most incisive movie about politics I've ever seen.
She plays a political consultant, and she gets a job helping a campaign down in South America. It's a bit of drama and a bit of comedy. And it's a fantastic window into the world of political operatives and campaign managers.
Whenever a political campaign is going on, now I think of this movie. It just really woke me up to all the dirty tricks in political campaigns.
In All the President's Men Woodward and Bernstein talk about the "dirty tricks" of the Nixon campaign. And the conceit of that movie is that we can rely on journalists to tell us the truth.
Bullshit. Our journalist class is just part of the optics. It's the very superficial cover story of what is going on. Our Brand Is Crisis gives us a peek into the dirty tricks architects. How they operate.
It's a good movie on its own merits. But it's also a real eye-opening film. Trailer
So the word from NYC boroughs is that the unnamed experimental weight loss drug from Eli Lilly that Trump is taking is retatrutide, that city bodegas are now selling as "Peptide."
No medical permission required, just pay $95.00 per dose, and you don't even have to get Trump's AOK. But the government is likely paying far more for Trump Peptide than the bodagas have to give to get theirs from Indr Labs.

While I get why people like to make comments like this, I think it's important to remember this isn't accurate by a long shot. Janet Mills, who has been in elective office in Maine for almost two decades including two terms as governor, was also on the ballot and had the support of various Democrats at both the state and national level (the two Democrats other than Platner already in the race dropped out and endorsed her when she declared). She was still on the ballot in the primary even if she stopped campaigning. The Democrats voting in the Maine primary had a choice on the ballot, and they chose this loser.
@Christopher B: You are correct that voters in Maine chose Platner. And that choice will now be un-chosen for them. And the voters will have no say in which candidate the Party installs to take Platner's place.
Again, the D in DNC is only there for ironic effect. Any opportunity to abandon voter preferences and install the Party choice instead is lustily embraced! As noted above the arbitrage between DNC “principles” and machine politics has been very lucrative for Sanders when he is the key man in the plan. Disenfranchising can make a commie bloody wealthy.
If you think you are paying $95.00 and getting the same drug that Lilly is selling then you are literally too stupid to live. Making a vial of sterile water would cost more than $95.
Setting aside the astonishing amount of personal lies and instability, Platner was the perfect candidate because of the astonishing amount of personal lies and instability. He was the DNC's best hope to take down the radical left wing he believed in by making him submit to the elderly pseudo-Centrist Party line if he won. That woman was always waiting in the wings if the mission had to be aborted.
Ironically he has to withdraw by midnight the day before Bastille Day. The irony is palpable.
DNC coffers are diminished. He’s gonna have a hard time extracting cash from them in exchange for a withdrawal. How much money are they willing to put into Maine, anyway? Maine looks like a lost cause if you look at possible subs as well.
RCOcean 2, if you're wondering how North Carolina has a Jewish governor.

In my church we had a rotating Episcopal priest who did not have a Southern accent and when we were reading the Bible, she wouldn't use the word "Israel."
The Episcopal Church has been totally captured by communist lesbians. Dollars to donuts, she totally lacks any belief in the Holy Trinity, and if she even has any faith in the Almighty, it's as a watered-down genderless Holy Gaia Spirit with no human connection except an almighty desire to see us all enslaved to a collectivist one world government.
My folks saw the writing on the wall and left for the traditional "continuing" Anglicans after the BCP reforms of the 1970s. There are a lot of splinters and schisms in the traditional-Anglican space, but I expect that the movement as a whole will soon have more butts in pews than the Episcopals on any given Sunday, if they don't already.
I visited the Nixon Library yesterday. Pretty cool. His boyhood home was really tiny. He came from a family of achievers. I'm not saying that. I was in the room with her, and you weren't. She was hateful on the subject of Israel. I saw it in her face. it was strange because all my priests are powerful Christians, and sweet happy people.
Episcopalians are a very tolerant church. We have pro-lifers, which causes stress. I've gotten into a few conflicts about abortion in my church. I feel like God calls on us to love our children. I wonder if that will become a new m.o. for the Democrats?
Nominee wins the primary.
Polls badly, appears to be losing.
Deadline looming
People's choice is removed and a new candidate is installed.
So weird to think a new, untested candidate will do better among Democrat voters than the one who won among actual Democrat voters.
Suggests they believe more in polling science than actual votes counted?
Maybe the Democrats are so removed from actual vote counting now, they've lost all trust in it.
It's kind of like a divorce between the Democrat voters and the Democrat Party. They've each lost trust in the other.
