Platner was presented by the Democrats as fulfilling the people's supposed longing for masculinity, so, yeah, replace him with Patrick Dempsey. That makes sense.

McDreamy.
From "Here Are the Maine Democrats Who Might Replace Graham Platner/Mr. Platner has not yet withdrawn from the race after a rape allegation, but Democrats in the state and nationally are already exploring potential alternatives" (NYT):

Is this guy considered "masculine"? I don't think "good looking" equates to "masculine," but I'm just a dude.
He's a former race car driver, so he does have a man card.
Patrick Dempsey might not get many votes, but ”Dr. McDreamy” would carry 80% - 90% of the female Gen-X and Millennial vote.
Diversity (i.e. color, class judgment)? A feature of human consensus, but not uniform in practice.
Scuttlebutt that Platner is refusing to withdraw unless he gets to choose his successor. Rumor is he wants it to be his wife. Now that would make for some very interesting MKUltra-style-remote-viewing on that conversation:
"Godammit Graham! You effing scumbag! After everything I've done sticking by you and your tiny chode there's a new assault allegation every week!?! Even after you said you'd told me everything!!! Now you listen and you listen good...what I've put up with is more than any mortal woman could reasonably bear, and by god if we're going to stay fake married, one of us is becoming a senator!!!" - Amy
Is that how it's going to work? Backwards? Instead of picking the best person from among the candidates, they will pick the least objectionable person and convince them to become a candidate?
The Democrats have finally recognized that the DSA is a different and hostile Party, and eating the Democrats from inside out. This stands to result in (1) major diversity/DEI drama as they divorce, and (2) reduced influence for both the Ds and DSAs.
Patrick Dempsey: The new fantasy candidate to replace Oprah and Michelle Obama. As with Newsom and Biden, they want a "safe white male" who can be controlled by the backroom puppetmasters.
They should just go ahead and nominate a rubber stamp.
what if?
what if the Democrats just started doing things that the Majority of American voters want?
Sorry.. once i typed that, i saw Just how CRAZY it was. Nevermind!
"Howard said...

He had the qualification necessary...money.
I'm not a doctor but I play one on television.
has Dempsey expressed any interest at all or is this just the ohpleaseohpleaseohplease wing of the Democrat party fantasizing out loud? McDreamy!
…a look at the recent past…from a million top Democrat strategists: if we get Taylor to endorse Joe Biden we win!
…if Dempsey has any sense at all he gets in one of his cars and drives far far away…
From "Dirty Dancing" ? I thought he was dead.
Elizabeth Warren said about Platner, "He's my kind of man."
I'm just saying that photo of Dempsey jumps right off the page. Looking for a man? Here he is!
"He has occasionally attended events with politicians"... so, there's some political experience. That, plus the looks, and you're got your replatnerplacement.
This latest scandal sure is consequential for something that didn't happen. If it did happen, then shouldn't everybody be calling for his arrest and prosecution? It's almost like rape doesn't count if you are on the left, so why are the majority of women on the left? A person could get the idea that women don't mind it at all.
Why Platner to begin with? Gee...
"Sensurround
@ShamashAran
I have now read this highlighted sentence seventeen times because I assumed I wan't actually reading what was written. Surely my eyes didn't actually read this. Maybe someone accidentally pasted in dialogue from "The Onion." back when it was funny. But no.
She is saying that she delayed reporting a rape because she agreed with the accused, politically.
This is one of those moments where, if your IQ is over 85, your brain quietly excuses itself from the room.
We have apparently reached a point where politics has become the emotional-support animal for basic human survival instincts. "Yes, this person committed one of the worst crimes imaginable against me, but we both liked the same tax policy. Awkward.""
We see the same sentiments from liberal women in Europe, and I believe in 1 or 2 cases here, when they've been raped by migrants. I believe these sentiments have been recently labelled as suicidal empathy. Males apparently don't suffer from it. A strictly female phenomena.
I'm not a Senator, but I play one on TV.
Why would Platner withdraw? If he does, he's a failure accused of rape. If he wins (30% likely?), all is forgotten, and he's a senator.
Is Stephen King too busy?
"Males apparently don't suffer from it. A strictly female phenomena."
My impression is that conservative women don't much either, and conservative men seem less prone to doing it, maybe the correlation has some causation. Yes, that would be blaming the victim, but if they don't consider themselves enough of a victim, who am I to bitch for them?
I don't believe the democrats care about the rape anywhere near as much as they care about it being used against them. Kind of like a rapist thinks.
@Gospace, I think your comment is on the wrong thread. I also read that claim, and it takes me back to the early 1960s, when young white women failed to report rapes — or reported the rape but did not tell the police that they had been raped by a black man — lest they be racist.
Male vs. Female behaviors:
Female animals far beyond humans are genetically evolved to sacrifice for the tribe, family, and their offspring.
It's how to be the best hero supporting the greater good when working from a state of dependence (i.e., others provide food and support when small children are present) and physical weakness vs. males.
The underlying thinking is the same when a female is single/childless or when partnered and with children, but it manifests different ways. Mothers: focused, concrete, literal, immediate, and close to home. Non-mother intellectual sacrifice: religious and political zealotry, pets, charities and random distant topics.
If the marriage and childbirth rates of 2026 were the same as in 1926, there's be a negligible political/voting gender gap.
The democrats will off course bring up Trump's case with Jean Carrol. The profound difference there is that I just don't think that happened, and there is no believable evidence that it did. Unlike nearly all the cases against Democrats, the supposed victims is a hard core hater of the man in question with significant resources and motive to lie. The Democrats usually get accused by their own staffers, employees, friends, lovers, friends' wives, etc., who do so reluctantly, which is a lot more believable.
Why are Democrats so enamored with people who have never built, or run anything. They clearly prefer fame over accomplishment, and style over substance.
Building or running an organization with lots of employees seems to me, and most conservatives, to be the best qualifier for office. It should be what the job is about, not just glad-handing and taking pictures, but vision, execution, and managing.
I think the Democrats have managed to come up with a Senate candidate in Florida that I absolutely cannot vote for, Alex Vindman.
I understand Platner isn't gonna quit the race now... ain't that a gas!
We all know that for 90% of the Democrat Party, the loyalists will vote for whomever the Party puts up. They were eager to vote for the crypto Nazi and they would be eager to vote for David Duke if he were the nominee.
The Party uber alles!
bagoh2o, you mean like Mitch McConnell?
Why not? Easy, peasy job. Just take a back bench and vote as you’re told ala Tammy Baldwin. Be a left-wing hero with no real work or worries, hang with your fellow multi-millionaires, get great stock picks, and get a great pension (not that he needs it).
Don't you have to live in the state to be its Senator? Is just being born there sufficient?
"bagoh2o, you mean like Mitch McConnell?"
One of many reasons, I never liked him, and what's been wrong with him his whole career, which should have ended decades ago. The point remains that truly accomplished people are mostly admired by the right and not by left. I don't mean rich, but people who actually build and make things.
bagoh +1
Actor Patrick Dempsey, a native of Lewiston, Maine, appeared in the front row at President Joe Biden's "Bidenomics" speech at Auburn Manufacturing in Auburn, Maine, on July 28, 2023.
Joe Biden: "Hey, it's that guy. You know the one. Kildare. No, that's not right. Bones! Bones! How you doing, Bones?"
Ref Dem-DSA divorce: Could accelerate the destruction of the 2 party system. DSA and Black Peoples Party calve off Dems. MAGA calves off GOP and takes whatever hardhat Dems haven’t already joined. The rumps of GOP and Dems become the United Party, representing college educated people. Fun coalition-building elections ensue.
Could happen! CC, JSM
The left longs for an Alpha male but always comes up short. Recall John Kerry windsurfing in a wet suit? Mock mercilessly. Same when he wanted to “buy me a huntin’ license”. Then there’s the football coach Tim Walz attempting the Alpha male charade, only to look like a goofball.
Now the left finally found their Alpha ….. except he’s a rapist. They sure can pick ‘em.
BTW, could someone ‘splain how Platnikov is 100% disabled. Is it mental? Physical? He said he’s a weightlifter.
"100% disabled."
His victims wish.
@Humperdink: "BTW, could someone ‘splain how Platnikov is 100% disabled."
Bureaucratic mumbo jumbo akin to the tax tables, and arguably a way to disguise elevated retirement benefits as medical conditions. Some cases are absolutely real and others raise questions. Take them one by one.
Start with the VA itself, but there are plenty of other sources. Lots of little problems are added up.
https://www.va.gov/disability/about-disability-ratings/
Like most actors, he probably knows nothing about politics.
Platner having proved too "McSteamy,"
Dems paddle back
and offer "Senator McDreamy."
Another Democrat dirtbag in Congress? BFD! Democrats were satisfied with a “Nazi-commie-rapist” until the negatives might effect his electability with the amoral blue. The irony? People who still vote for Democrats don’t care about the negatives.
Too bad the Democrats are longing for competency, intelligence, and a morally good character.. But no. They want a caricature of "manliness" for show.....and have no idea what a real man is like.
The front page story in the print version of the Washington Post today- above the fold, top right, the editors’ decision about the most important story of the day, has the headline “Platner Accused of Secretly Taking Off His Condoms.” What has the left come to? I am not talking about the action, sick as it is, but the need to ejaculate it in such a prominent position for all to see. I am at a loss for words to describe my disgust.
“Looking for a man? Here he is!”
Senator Dreamy McDreamboat
Yesterday truth overcame fantasy for the Dems.
Today fantasy sets out anew...
“Maynard said...

We call tbem “Yellow Dog Ddmocrats” because they’d vote for a yellow dog if the mutt had a “(D)” after its name. There are also “Blue Dog Democrats” who self-identify as moderate, however that’s not how they vote once they’re in office.
Ben Shapiro suggested yesterday that Tucker Carlson meets all the Dem requirements
Democrat researchers frantically checking Nielsen ratings for Grey's Anatomy in Maine.
Once again, the NYT keeps its readers untethered from reality.
-- Doesn't Platner remain in control of his candidacy, having won the Primary?
-- Do you think Platner is going to pick McDreamy to replace him?
-- Do you think Platner is going to step down before 7/13 unless he's received just compensation for his ruined life?
-- Wouldn't he benefit more from having his wife be a US Senator than anything else the Dems can offer?
“Platner Accused of Secretly Taking Off His Condoms.”
In his defense, they might not make ones small enough to prevent them from slipping.
Ronald Reagan was an actor, before he was a governor. My understanding of his history is that he got active in union work and ran into a lot of fucking Commies and decided to get active in politics.
Clint Eastwood ran for mayor one time. Schwarzenegger was governor. All of those guys were Republicans. And they were all in California. And Batman! Batman ran for mayor of L.A. I can't believe I forgot Batman.
Regardless, I still think it's a little strange for Maine Democrats to try to recruit an actor out of California to fill this role. And his political platform is "I sat in the front row of a Joe Biden speech."
Maybe the party just ought to run an AI program for Senator, if it's all about the optics. If Dempsey refuses to run, just seize his likeness IP.
Or, if that's too scary Commie for Maine, you can buy the character, Dr. Derek Shepherd, from Disney. And then put words in his mouth. "I'm not a doctor, but I play one on TV. And I want to offer you free healthcare, Maine."
I'm not sure why he would step down unless they offer him something he really wants. He doesn't have to do it if he doesn't want to.
An actor.
Isn't that most of the Dems already?

for the longest time, Iowa had Tom Harkin for one of its Senators.
Tom had a house in Virginia (Alexandria i think), and according to the Des Moines Register his second house was in the Virgin Islands (British i think)..
as far as IOWA went, he had a "PO BOX at the Hotel Fort Des Moines."
The ONLY time that Tom would EVER come to Iowa was for reelection rallies.
So, NO; you DO NOT have to "live" in a state, you just need to have a PO BOX there (at least, in Iowa)

Planter CLAIMS to have "SUCH BAD PTSD", that he
a) reenlisted
b) later signup as a paid mercinary
c) told the VA that his brain was broken
he gets 100% disablity because he CLAIMS to be mentally ill.
thus: the Senate run
"And Batman! Batman ran for mayor of L.A. I can't believe I forgot Batman."
Don't forget "Gopher" from the Love Boat (although I think he was elected in his home state, not CA) and Sonny Bono (who was actually a pretty good congressman). Of course Trump hates Cher almost as much as he hates Taylor Swift.
Fredo swings and minces…
"Fredo swings and minces"
Oh boy, a fag joke! Do you start High School in the fall or do you have another year of Middle School?
freder can't even get the dumb stuff right
Cher Hates Trump.
Taylor Swift hates Trump.
Fredo’s feelings of inadequacy and homophobia is exposed.
VA disability ratings are politically poison even though everyone knows how much fraud is going on there.
I am sorry for what I’ve done to the women of Maine. In order for me to drop out, here is how Janet Mills, Hannah Pingree, Chellie Pingree, and Shenna Bellows must submit to my will. ~ Graham Platner

Graham Platner and the crisis of American masculinity ~ Ross Douthat
Kak-a-bitch(D) Has full approve of Nazi tattoo and rape.
If we had to guess- I'm sure Kak-a-Bitch is also aroused by the smell of blue port-a-potty poo water. Just like his rapey pal/ Nazi tatted fake Oyster man - Platner. Man of the people.
“he gets 100% disablity because he CLAIMS to be mentally ill.
thus: the Senate run”
@gilbar, that’s what I was fishing for. The guy is mentally ill and running for Senate? If he has PTSD from military service, I am OK with that, just don’t run for an office requiring tough choices/ decisions.
My opinion is that someone has received money to make the assault claim. And the money came from the same cohort that brought us Biden. But I'm just a rumor-mongerer.
Blue Flag being waved.
And here I was thinking that Talarico was the model of masculinity for Democrats.
As far as I know, Dempsey hasn't committed to The Communist Manifesto as his personal guide to political theory, so I don't think Platner will go for it. At least not without a lot more cash.
Just goes to show, a trained monkey could be a qualified candidate too.
the editors’ decision about the most important story of the day, has the headline “Platner Accused of Secretly Taking Off His Condoms.”
You think that's the editor's decision? I think there are forces behind the decision that are not all that different from the one that arranged for a horse's severed head in Jack Woltz's bed.
"Taylor Swift hates Trump."
“I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!” Trump wrote Truth Social on September 15, 2024.
And he posted a stupid mock-up of the Jumbotrons outside MSG covering her wedding announcement with some lame statement about Trump.
"Fredo’s feelings of inadequacy and homophobia is exposed"
I'm not the one who responded to my fairly anodyne post (heck, I even said Sonny Bono was a pretty good rep) with one calling me a fag.
Face it, Freder. You don't exactly give out that " I change my own oil." vibe.
cool! he hates her back.
she has enough fans. Swift will live.
Plus- Taylor and Trump have something in common - they both had rallies at Nazi Madison Square Garden.
cool.
No woman, right or left, is going to countenance a guy who sneaks the condom off in the act. Not the Clinton kneepad brigade, not the aging purple-haired women who still dream of their fantasy black boyfriend Barack Obama, not even the borderline insane Luigi Mangione prison pen-pal fangirls. He could call them all the C-word on national TV with less blowback. This is truly the coup de grace.
Dempsey was gawky in 80s movies but grew into a handsome man when his facial features hardened.
A few months ago I was taking a train ride from Vancouver to Toronto. One evening in the dining car a woman at my table, once it was established that I was American, blurted out "I hate Trump". Not wishing to get into it at the dinner table, all I could think of to say is "I'm not him." I had a pleasant conversation with the other two table companions.
blurted out "I hate Trump"
You had a great reply. It's unfortunate that so many people feel the need to posture when Trump says something. It really isn't necessary always to reply to a perceived slight.
Patrick Dempsey not only looks like a more handsome John F. Kennedy, he actually played JFK in a TV miniseries. That's good for a few hundred thousand votes right there.
Not sure evoking JFK would be the best move in this case where themes of sexual misbehavior and pro-National Socialism are already red hot.
Joseph Kennedy and his sons Joe Jr. and Jack were all strong supporters of “Mr. Hitler” and the Nazi project in the late 30’s. They also held some pretty overt anti-Jewish opinions along the lines of the Jews “brought it on themselves” though, as far as I know, Jack Kennedy never had a need to cover up an SS death skull tattoo.
And then there’s all the Kennedy sex stuff no one really wants to touch or be reminded of.
Dempsey won't do. Dems are going for "Bad Boy" vibes.
Wouldn't he make a wonderful Surgeon General?
Meade: 'Joseph Kennedy and his sons Joe Jr. and Jack were all strong supporters of “Mr. Hitler” and the Nazi project in the late 30’s'
Yes, and once the country took the opposite view, Joe Jr volunteered for the mission that killed him: flying an experimental drone plane toward Germany (they knew how to do a remotely-guided dive, but not a takeoff, so the human pilot bailed out at altitude - somehow Joe's explosives detonated before he could do that). And JFK bribed doctors to medically qualify him for service so he could go get his boat run over by Hitler's eastern friends.
Big difference from today's Democrats. CC, JSM
The Democrats' democratic process. Throw out the duly elected candidate and anoint a substitute via Samuel the Prophet.
