Looks like the Maine D's will hold a convention to select the replacement. 400 delegates selected through caucus and 100 D Party Committemen. Probably their smartest move would be to select Mills who was supposed to be the nominee before Platner won.

On the other hand Collins has to pivot as well. Her camp and financial backers were prepared to spend the campaign hammering Platner about his character. The money that Collins has been pouring into TV ads will now have to be spent defending her record as well as the failed policies of Trump and her party. I'm not convinced that this course "correction" is a bad thing.

Why Platner’s replacement absolutely will not be Janet Mills. Platner was 6-7 points behind Collins but in the same poll Mills was close to 10 points behind Collins.
Remember we are in the silly season for polls too. In 3 months they are going to start magically stop skewing towards democrats and the Republicans will "shrink the lead" until they finally start showing reality as we near election day.
