That's the automated summary of the comments section at The Washington Post article, "FBI thwarted attack targeting UFC event at White House, director says/People have been taken into custody in connection with the alleged planned attack on the UFC event Sunday that President Donald Trump attended, FBI Director Kash Patel said."
ADDED: I think there are always threats against the President, so the question is why are we hearing about this one? It seems rational to assume it's because it serves the administration's political interests. Nothing happened that we saw, so it wasn't like the Correspondents' Dinner incident. So... I'm skeptical too.

Crazy talk by the Left. The DOJ wouldn't be arresting people unless it had good evidence of a conspiracy that is admissible into evidence.
The Left just wants to continue with its desire to kill POTUS and destroy America.
I can only imagine what the terrorists that Joe Biden willingly let into our country have planned for this Independence Day.
…the classic end to The Media Who Cried Russian Collusion
I dunno. My first thought was, "why hasn't anyone tried this sooner"?
The whole TDS thing has spiraled into a kind of paranoid conspiracy attitude. There are people who think that Trump arranged to have himself shot in the ear. It's nuts.
Planned wielding of liberal license to relieve progressive "burdens" of state is a fact that will forever live in infamy. But the weather, man, is improving with climate change.
This is why I mock and ridicule the Left whenever the opportunity presents itself.
So to sum it up, the Progressive Left will deny any accounts that could damage their position while maintaining a steady attack on any positive outcomes gained by their Opposition. The Progressive Left wants us to know that they don't believe anything, ever, until they're ready to instruct us on what we should believe.
Sounds like somebody has decided that 'rote denial' is the way forward. Looking forward to hearing the facts as they unroll. I don't doubt the sentiments motivating this attack are real, but it will be interesting to learn how far along they were. Almost 30 people so far is a pretty big number.
So, terrorism deniers, then. Conspiracy theorists.
The left want Trump and his supporters dead. Say so constantly on BlueSky and MicrosSoft Bill Gate's NOW.
The left is becoming more and more conspiratorial minded. This is because of the widespread moral inferiority complex on the Left. The Left desperately wants to feel, individually and collectively, that they are the good guys. The internal line of reasoning for why they are good is that they have the right political beliefs and values. They vote for and support the right people and policies. When presented with situations where people who apparently share their beliefs do bad things their instinct is to either come up with a justification for it or deny it even happened so they can continue to believe they are the good guys. This lets them avoid the cognitive dissonance of the two opposing beliefs. This is why when Charlie Kirk was assassinated Jimmy Kimmel claimed it was a MAGA person who did it. While what Jimmy Kimmel said was untrue it wasn't a lie. Jimmy Kimmel believed it was a MAGA person who did it because he ignored all the evidence showing it was a lefty. Doing that let him continue to feel like he was part of the good guys.
I'm kind of like Scott M above except; they have.
The angle the reporter took suggests that we are hearing about this because the Post (and the leaker at DOJ) thought that reporting the story doesn't serve the administration's interests.
Ah democrats. It's not enough that we stopped an attack, but people need to actually die before they will believe it would've happened.
TDS abides at WaPo, among its readers and Democrats. “Overall the sentiment is ….” We are meant to extrapolate public sentiment from that of the batshit crazy mediaswine at WaPo and their commenters. Right?
"..ADDED: I think there are always threats against the President.."
yep,
and Democrats are TIRED of hearing about their own failures.
Democrats just want to hear about a success!
Democrats are the Party of Murder, and Slavery.
I guess until there are shots fired or bombs exploded, it doesn't count.
The alleged plot sounds like something a four year old would come up with in the sandbox "and then they have drones flying in, and then they have a sniper team, and then they rush the gate with all the other bad guys, and then"...
"Nothing happened that we saw, so it wasn't like the Correspondents' Dinner incident. So... I'm skeptical too."
Presumably warrants were signed by federal magistrates in the DC area. Five people were arrested. This is real and not some political stunt.
The Left and terrorists will continue in their attempts to kill Trump.
Evolution of lefty media
- We are going to selectively cover the news in ways that suit our lefty interests
- We are going to put a negative slant on any and everything republican
- We are going to publish easily falsifiable lies and say "we stand by our source"
- Every thing we don't like is a conspiracy theory!!!
The alleged plot involved explosive-laden drones designed to hit buildings in the area.
23 people in Signal chats, 5 people arrested. One of the guys was from Cincinnati. Several of the suspects (maybe the five arrested?) had traveled to Fredericksburg, VA.
The thing is; it doesn't seem to matter to the left what evidence is provided. Luigi is clearly on camera committing his murder, yet charges of murder with a firearm were dropped. Just look at how the left is treating the Karmelo Anthony conviction. These are actual murders, and the left wants these killers free because of the target.
The FBI did so many sketchy things during the Biden administration, it doesn't surprise me that people are suspicious. But why would you be skeptical of drones with explosives? That's way beyond people talking shit on the internet.
Hey, lefties!
When YOUR world’s falling apart
It’s become apparent that you’ve got no heart
I am pretty sure Kash has tamped down on the Bureau’s create-a-crime methods, which were not a Biden-era invention but rather go back to the Hoover days. Really almost every agency does a bit of it, for instance local narcs will keep buying from a suspect until they get the amount up there for a good high sentence, even though no ‘real’ crime was committed: the drugs went straight to the evidence locker. And it originally had good intent: instead of waiting for a clearly bad guy to do a big crime, construct a big phony ‘crime’ to catch him at. But then just like bounties for snakes or foxes, the market incentive made Bureau squads go find Walter Mitty terrorists and carefully guide them through more and more incriminating acts. Culminating in Jan 6.
But to return to my point, I think Kash as an outsider is trying to bring common sense back to sting operations. If this thing really is big, it’s because it really is big. CC, JSM
WaPo story fails to mention the drones with explosives.
It supports the need for the use of the ballroom roof for defense against drone attacks.
Maybe the WaPo has zero sources at the White House?
"Nothing happened that we saw, so it wasn't like the Correspondents' Dinner incident. So... I'm skeptical too."
Nice Catch-22 you got there.
I think there are always threats against the President, so the question is why are we hearing about this one?
As Saint Croix points out, the scale and scope of this alleged planned attack seems unique. Moreover, you might want to use public disclosure to deter any undiscovered cell within the conspiracy from activating a plan-B.
"... Nothing happened that we saw.."
now, compare and contrast THAT with the Fetchin Gretchin "plot",
where the FBI convinced mentally ill idiots to join a fictional attempt on the Governor in Michigan.
tell me, Professor? what happened that "we saw" in that one?
It supports the need for the use of the ballroom roof for defense against drone attacks.
If only Trump had actual enemies! I guess we'll have to frame innocent people for not doing anything.
A Whitmer-conspiracy? Maybe, baby.

The alleged plot sounds like something a four year old would come up with in the sandbox...
What a coincidence: a lot of Trump's most strident enemies sound like four year olds in a sandbox.
I think there are always threats against the President, so the question is why are we hearing about this one? It seems rational to assume it's because it serves the administration's political interests.
I think that's fair. That's why they decided to talk to the media about this one, even though it didn't happen at the event.
Nothing happened that we saw, so it wasn't like the Correspondents' Dinner incident. So... I'm skeptical too.
Big difference between a motive to speak to the media (yes) and a motive to frame innocent people with drones and explosives in a fake crime for the purpose of building a new ballroom (even writing that out in a sentence is ridiculous).
Whenever the FBI "thwarts a secret plot" 🤫it is almost 100% that the FBI planned the plot and recruit some losers to play along. See Gretchen Whitmer. The FBI doesn't just catch wind of some plot and stop it. Here's another example from Milwaukee a couple years back:
https://www.wisn.com/article/man-accused-of-plotting-mass-shooting-at-milwaukees-scottish-rite-claims-entrapment/10255892?
The FBI is good at foiling its own plots. But that about it.
The WaPo story inspires conspiracy-thinking because it's a fact-free article. How did the reporters miss drones with explosives?
Indefinite infractions are part and parcel of civil rites championed by Democrazis.
The DOJ wouldn't be arresting people unless it had good evidence of a conspiracy that is admissible into evidence.
The DOJ arrested someone for posting a picture of seashells arranged into 8647. Of course they will make shit up.
I guess they could have allowed the attacks to happen and then said, “Told you so”. Would the judge listen then?
Yes, Begley, after the DOJ tried to indict the guy who threw a sandwich they really demonstrated how they only focus on real threats.
Achilles spent time this weekend trying to resurrect pizza gate on this blog, yet folks here claim its only the left that has crazy conspiracies.
Very ambitious. Skepticism is warranted. We don't have enough information to judge the seriousness of this threat. Seems unlikely the story was "fabricated". Exaggerated maybe. We'll have to wait and see.
The Left desperately wants to feel, individually and collectively, that they are the good guys. The internal line of reasoning for why they are good is that they have the right political beliefs and values.
There are thoughtless people on both sides. There are thoughtful people on both sides. The thoughtful people on the left believe the above, it seems from available evidence (such as how they characterize themselves and how they characterize their political opponents, such as the yard signs emphasizing their virtue in bumper sticker format such that the sentiments don't stand up to the slightest scrutiny - "love is love"? Including NAMBLA love, guys?, such as their frequent "reinterpretations" of Scripture and long-established moral codes to support their ability to Do What They Will without guilt).
The thoughtful people on the right don't assume they're good people. They assume that they, and everyone else, are flawed people, and they judge on the basis of actions rather than intentions. "The best of intentions" is not an excuse on the right; it's seldom even a mitigating circumstance. What did you do? Who cares why - no one ever feels like, or sets out to be, the villain in real life.
But on the left? Intentions über alles.
Do these commenters really doubt the plot? Maybe... but let's say they were presented with a smoking gun, and blood, and death. How would they respond to such a thing, provided that the target was their target?
We don't have to hypothesize, do we? Even the "nice" lefties, such as the ones here, just mouthed pieties about "political violence," oh, and blamed Trump for it, after Butler.
"People have been taken into custody..."
I worked at the state psychiatric facility in NH, and especially during the primary, a lot of people showed up to make threatening remarks and alarming statements. Very few were "taken into custody" in any meaningful sense. T o me it suggests something about this was elevated
It might be that the White House has decided to shut out the NYT and the WaPo from this story. Everybody in the media is reporting the drones-with-explosives angle (except the WaPo). And I'm not seeing anything in the NYT about the attack at all.
I did a search (drone attack on White House New York Times) and the top result was a story in the (London) Times from two hours ago. I got two NYT stories on completely different issues (US/Iran deal and G7 summit). They missed the story completely? Weird.
WaPo has it, but it reads like they got it second-hand, without any facts.
The left killed Charlie Kirk - laughed and gloated about it - then blamed the Jews.
Assholes like Mgyn Kelly and Tim agreed.
I find it interesting, let's see how it develops. The question I would like answered is who snitched? One of the conspirators or an FBI agent? The existence of such a conspiracy doesn't seem far fetched, it would hardly be the first time.
I think there are always threats against the President, so the question is why are we hearing about this one?
Is it because people were taken into custody? Isn't that usually announced? If they are actually charged, would that lower conspiracy talk?
CBS is nailing the story.
A law enforcement source told CBS News that five people are in custody so far. At least one suspect, 19-year-old Tycen Proper, was arrested in the Southern District of Ohio on Monday and faces four charges, including attempted murder of a federal officer and conspiracy to commit an offense against the U.S., according to court filings.
The collective vile Bernie-Bro lied--to/ lie-buring insane left WANT Trump murdered - and they have an army of antifa built lunatics to do it - paid for by the same money that funds the SPLC -
If the corrupt left are successful - they will blame others.
That's why they deny everything. they are all mentally ill, deluded lying assholes.
There is no act of political violence from the left against Trump that surprises me. I don't find it hard to believe that some nutjobs wanted to create chaos at the UFC event. It would have been perfect for them. These people hate a reflecting pool that now actually reflects.
Yes, Begley, after the DOJ tried to indict the guy who threw a sandwich they really demonstrated how they only focus on real threats.
Let me resort to Gemini for this: I asked, "Is throwing something at someone considered assault in Washington DC?" (I actually don't remember if that's where the assault occurred, but I'm pretty confident the law is similar just about everywhere.)
The answer: "AI Overview +9 Throwing something at someone is generally considered a criminal offense in Washington, D.C., under D.C. Code §22-404. Even if the object does not make contact or cause injury, the act of throwing it can still lead to simple assault or attempted battery charges."
There's more, including the distinction about "assault with a dangerous weapon." But I encourage you to consider that a sandwich isn't always just a sandwich, just as a water bottle isn't always just a water bottle, and red liquid thrown on a fur-wearing person isn't always just paint. (Apparently the mystery liquid squirted on, who was it, Omar? Tlaib? was readily discernible, in the moment and by the victim, not to have been dangerous. So perceptive!)
But I forget myself - on the left, the intention to "stop the madness!" of whatever the Trump administration is trying to do goes before all else. And after all, no harm was done (just like the fun, activist shoplifting that only sticks it to the system, right?), therefore the demonstrable crime that was committed doesn't count. Backsies.
who snitched? One of the conspirators or an FBI agent?
They arrested a young man named Tycen Proper of Ohio who was reported by his family. From what I read, he told law enforcement a lot of what was reportedly planned in subsequent interviews.
FBI affidavit
The guy who was arrested, Proper, was turned in by his parents. He was arrested by local law enforcement, who called in the FBI.
In a May 2026 poll by NewsGuard and YouGov, approximately 21% of Democratic respondents believed that all three recent assassination attempts on President Donald Trump were staged. Additionally, 42% of Democrats surveyed believed the Butler, Pennsylvania rally shooting was fake, while 34% believed the White House Correspondents' Dinner shooting was staged
WaPo readers will think anything that doesn't fit the left-wing narrative is fake. The paper actively cultivated a demented, stupid, narcissistic readership so it's hardly surprising that that is what they have.
NBC News is reporting on Twitter that Tycen Proper's parents tipped off the FBI. NBC is saying, "He had anti-government views and was upset about the handling of the Epstein files." Presumably this is code for "He's Antifa, and the violence is coming from the left."
Professor, what would it take to satisfy your skepticism?
From the arrested kids mother:
"She detailed that PROPER had recently begun interacting with a group online that was comprised of individuals who claimed to be ex-military and Christian based. She didn't know the name of the group, but they expressed ultra-religious and anti-government sentiments, specifically citing grievances about government corruption, the handling of the Epstein files, data centers taking up all the water in communities, and other government action."
So more "right wing" militia crap. This is fake people. Gretchen Whitmer 2.0.
I find it helpful to wait for the evidence at trial with charges of this nature.
The left really cared about the Epstein files during Crook SPLC Soros Joe
42% of Democrats surveyed believed the Butler, Pennsylvania rally shooting was fake
wow
Freder thinks its OK for the former head of the FBI to post a death threat against Trump.
...interacting with a group online that was comprised of individuals who claimed to be ex-military and Christian based. She didn't know the name of the group, but they expressed ultra-religious and anti-government sentiments...
Probably feds.
Probably AI feds.
Nothing happened that we saw, so it wasn't like the Correspondents' Dinner incident. So... I'm skeptical too
…threats and thwarted plots against past Presidents were often reported in the past. There’s a gap during the period where mainstream news abandoned news for propaganda. Now with alternative media sources and conservatives in charge of a return to transparent government we get unhinged reactions like this. To me it meets the standard for derangement…
For those here who prefer real life over dopey speculation, the FBI’s probable-cause affidavit is available to anyone with that new Google “websearch” software installed on their mainframe.
"The comments express widespread skepticism and disbelief regarding the claim that the FBI thwarted an attack targeting a UFC event at the White House."
Leftists in denial that they are the baddies.
WaPo readers will think anything that doesn't fit the left-wing narrative is fake. The paper actively cultivated a demented, stupid, narcissistic readership
…that’s an interesting take. So much left propaganda they’ve conditioned their readers/viewers to believe that news must be pro left/anti right. That seems to be what’s happened…
Nebraska Governor Jim Pillen, "One of the key ringleaders of this planned attack was identified by the FBI – Federal Bureau of Investigation right here in Nebraska. I am proud beyond words not only that this terrorist is now behind bars, but also that our Nebraska State Patrol provided significant support in the FBI-led operation that took him into custody."
ADDED: I think there are always threats against the President, so the question is why are we hearing about this one?
Perhaps because it wasn’t, strictly speaking, an attack on the President? It was planned as an attack on attendees at the UFC event, and the focus was to be on people fleeing the event in panic after the drone attacks. Donald Trump would not have been among them because the Secret Service would have moved him into a safe area inside the White House.
It seems rational to assume it's because it serves the administration's political interests.
I have no idea whether there are arrests in terror cases that the FBI deliberately hides, but on the whole my impression is that it is good PR for the FBI to publicize when it succeeds in thwarting mass casualty terror events. Going all the way back to its days under Hoover, the FBI has been a publicity hound.
Nothing happened that we saw, so it wasn't like the Correspondents' Dinner incident. So... I'm skeptical too.
You would rather have seen the explosive-equipped drone damage or destroy neighboring buildings and panicked event-goers trampled or shot down by gunmen while fleeing the explosions? What a bloodthirsty creature you are, Professor!
@rehajm (11:45), +1
… they didn’t so much cultivate demented readership they built it…
Damned if you do....Damned if you don't
We are hearing about it because it is significant news. If the Administration HID the information they would be accused of not being transparent, hiding things from the media who has a right to know everything, from the people who also have the right....yada yada yada yada.
If the Administration releases information (as they just did) they are accused of grandstanding, making a big deal out of nothing, using it for nefarious political purposes. yada yada yada.
Trump just can't win because the media and others are blinded by their frothing hatred of every and anything he does. It is TIRESOME.
Batshit crazy Democrats in denial about the malevolence and violence of their batshit crazy Islamist, Antifa and various other homicidal consorts. Post November: “Assassinations? We don’t know nuthin! Get on with swearing in President 3rd In Line Jeffries so we can get on with the destruction.”
This is hilarious. Biden-era FBI abuses of conservative citizens, i.e. Catholics, school kids parents protesting boys in girl's spaces, setting up phony conspiracies with more informants than suspects - then projecting all of this onto the Trump administration, as if the FBI hasn't had any reforms and housecleanings in the meantime, with regular press conferences detailing the same. What fun !! How unserious - but thanks for finally admitting to what was going on when your people were in charge. Took a while, didn't it?
Freder thinks its OK for the former head of the FBI to post a death threat against Trump.
I hope in this case the FBI has a lot more than a photograph of seashells on a beach.
I am pretty sure Kash has tamped down on the Bureau’s create-a-crime methods
That would be nice.
(cough) seashells on a beach (cough)
The democrat party base is right where the elites want them.
Lied to, and lunatic.
It seems rational to assume it's because it serves the administration's political interests
What political interest would reporting such an event support?
DD Driver- you're going to need a link.
@Saint Croix, my take is that lefty loonies have seen too many Hollywood movies where good shooters can hit targets barely larger than the bullet itself from hundreds of meters away. Real life is just a big different.
@DBQ, not tiresome, but tedious. As in “TDS is tedious.”
We take them at their word: thats what they want to do
(cough) seashells on a beach (cough)
…I’m continually reminded of a little snippet from one of those PBS series on the counterculture of the 1960s where some wise old sage from the era casually described how one of the tactics was to publicly distance leadership from violence and assassination while simultaneously leadership was trying to cultivate impressionable young supporters to commit it.
…I’ve spent much time hunting for that clip and can’t find it. Buried?
“… why are we hearing about this one?” If the initial reports are accurate, this was not merely a threat against the President it was a planned terrorist attack involving multiple shooters. And if threats against the President have evolved to, or beyond, the conspiracy stage, why wouldn’t we hear about them?
DD Driver- you're going to need a link
It’s linked at 10:20 AM.
The Nebraska man lives in Omaha and is NOT a US citizen.
Knox County Sheriff's office is involved.
The word is that the conspirators were "accelerationists" who wanted to hasten "the system's" collapse. Left-wing or right-wing? Does it really matter which label you want to put on it? Tycen Proper, the one whose name has been released, is apparently more of an admirer of Adolf Hitler than Graham Platner ever was.
The indictment says one of the men told investigators that he believes Donald Trump eats children. As I've said before, though, this seems like exactly the sort of thing a murder defendant would want to say once the police catch up with him.
They arent sending their best
There are thousands, probably millions, who want something like this to happen. It's certain that some of them are committed and capable enough to get this far with it. Simple probability math says this likely was real. Means + Motive + Opportunity + epidemic mental illness.
Donald Trump eats children.
To be fair, who knows what's in a McDonald's patty.
"wanted to hasten "the system's" collapse"
Not entirely a bad idea.
I got a brain teaser for ya:
What bad thing has Trump not been accused of?
...interacting with a group online that was comprised of individuals who claimed to be ex-military and Christian based. She didn't know the name of the group, but they expressed ultra-religious and anti-government sentiments...
Probably feds.
So obvious. Anyhow who can't see it is retarded. They couldn't even find an antifa kid to set up. They had to go back to the old Christian Nationalist canard. When all you have is a hammer....
They have been doing this since Ruby Ridge.
This is a joke and anyone who buys it at face value is genuinely, genuinely stupid (i.e., the Althouse readership.)
The plan, which had a lot of moving parts, is remarkably complicated. I wonder who put it together? Was it the brainchild of a single person, or was it by group discussion. It seems sort of professional in a way, yet likely to fail in practice. There were too many people involved, timing and placement of assets too complicated. It might have worked, but a lot of luck would have been needed. The Las Vegas shooting was much simpler.
The FBI just thwarted ANOTHER right wing plot to overthrow the government. We had Gretchen Whitmer, January 6, and now this right wing militia plot.
The Althouse readers keep telling me that the leftwing are the violent ones, but the FBI keeps telling me something different.
I think the FBI is crooked and full of shit. You think the FBI is crooked and full of shit unless it helps your narrative. LOL. Now you stupid motherfuckers have painted yourselves into a corner. (I'm looking at you Peachy, you dumb balloon-titted bimbo cuck).
Seriously? We gonna take this as real after the Michigan Kidnap? It's lame. I don't fault Patel, it's the lifers in charge that look for this stuff. Anybody here putting a couple of hours into searching redditt, tiktok, x, bluesky or lesser known chat groups can find a a couple of dozen retards making plans, or suggesting ways, to take over the govt .

No Drones: There were no unmanned aircraft or quadcopters seized.

That would be a pretty good subhead for the Althouse blog.
@ DD
So you don't think that if you start talking online about your plan to attack an upcoming event at the WH with guns and drones you might perhaps draw the attention of DHS or the FBI?
You don't think that some of the respondents who are expressing an interest in joining your scheme might not be who they say they are?
You don't think the government has trip wires out there on the internet?
Okay, well, you're smart one. I'll take your word for it.
Faking this attack would be as necessary as seeding clouds in the Amazon.
Knox County, Ohio is where one suspect lived; not Knox County, NE.
Local media won't report that Abraham Hermosillo Alvarez of Omaha is not a US citizen.
These guys will be threatened with 30 years and accept a plea bargain for 2-3. That will prove their were guilty. Just like J6
Why would anybody still need convinced that security is a problem for the current President? Anyone who doesn't get it by now probably uses their barbecue to heat the house.
From what I've seen on Twitter, Tycen Proper is 19, seriously bald, and just graduated from high school. If they mean he graduated this year, he must have been held back, meaning he's either stupid or lazy. With today's high-school standards, you have to be really stupid or really lazy to get held back in most districts. As for his hair, getting that bald by 19 is very unusual. Even early-onset baldness is rarely that early. (I lost basically all of my hair between ages 22 and 23. And still recall that there was one seriously bald senior in my high school, which had 800+ students, so ~400 boys.) I wonder if that helped sour his outlook on life. Probably didn't get a lot of dates, if any.
They are epstein obsessed anticapitalist (like the peanut gallery here)
"The guy who was arrested, Proper, was turned in by his parents. He was arrested by local law enforcement, who called in the FBI."
So, they get the kid, check his phone, and come up with a couple dozen lonely losers looking for friends on the 'net. Good thing mom called the cops or woulda been mass destruction because FBI and Homeland security had no prior clue.
Mom needs some kind of award.
Didnt they know signal was insecure

This sounds like what the government used to call "aspirational" plans to commit a terror attack, rather than a truly advanced, likely terror attack.

I need a drink. I agree with Freder, D.D. and I.E.E .
FBI did not intercept communications. Mommy turned the kid in. No drones, no bombs, only 2 guys showed up for the "meeting" in Virginia. FBI may have been encouraging these idiots prior to mommy's intervention.

At least 23 people involved - more arrests to follow. Met online, communicated on Signal- the most secure app that the average person is going to get. My immediate family, including 6 former or active military including 3 military intelligence, use it for family chats.
The planning for the planned raid that I've read is right out of a handbook on how to do such things. The organization, OTOH...
People you don't know in person? Who you have only met on the internet? Who haven't all, each and everyone, been vouched for- IN PERSON - by another member of the group? That violates every rule of small group organization I know. And IIRC- every organizational rule in the Bluebook of the John Birch Society that I last read in high school. Don't know if I still have it around. Do have Das Kapital, The Communist Manifesto, Mein Kampf, and the Bhagavad Gita around. Good to be familiar with the crazies out there. My Anarchist's Cookbook is long gone. But then I think I had a copy of the original recipes which supposedly written by the
CIA and looked kind of right but would prematurely detonate if mixed...
My initial thoughts before more comes out it- a bunch of crazies with no common sense. And likely a mix of motivations. Organizing over the internet equals no common sense. Like the many educated people who have crossed state lines to meet up with that über cute 15 year old girl - or for the real sickos boy- only to me met by federal marshals as they step off the plane. Education but no common sense.

The FBI says these guys are former military Christian Nationalists. Is the FBI full of shit? Yes or no?
I say "yes."
The FBI says these guys are former military Christian Nationalists.
Not true.
One suspect's mother said the online group "Vanguard of the Old" claimed to be "ex-military and Christian-based" and expressed "ultra-religious and anti-government sentiments."
If I'm wrong, provide a link showing the FBI saying the perps are former military and Christian Nationalists.
Maybe it will turn out they are, but the FBI has not said it and we don't know at this time.
Is the FBI full of shit?
Historically, yes they are.
There doesn't seem to be much that is Christian about them, so yes, the FBI is full of shite. It's time to use the phrase "Christian nationalism" much more carefully, if at all.
A bit of shooting trivia...

I'd question it, too. Because there is absolutely no way the left would ever resort to violence.
but people need to actually die before they will believe it would've happened.
Not even then. Look no further than Butler, PA.
After all the attempts on the President, the threats, the violence against ICE agents, the violent protests, the encouragement of violence by the leadership on the left, being skeptical about this seems very unserious.
According to the affidavit, they targeted politicians who took donations from Israel. As always, the Jew haters will deny culpability after the massacre happens, and then blame the Jews for getting themselves killed.
"I think there are always threats against the President, so the question is why are we hearing about this one? It seems rational to assume it's because it serves the administration's political interests."
Not if you know the details. Multiple federal and state agencies involved, across jurisdictions around the country, arrests and court documents, parental interviews with the media, guns, maps, tactical training ...
How could they keep this quite?
As for skepticism, the fact that the parents turned two of them in works strongly against another FBI fraud.
To be clear, I never said this was an FBI fraud. DD got triggered by my use of the word "fed", interpreted it that way and went on a tear.
What I did was speculate about how this plot may have been discovered and I may or may not be right. At this point we don't know much and half of what we think we know will probably turn out to be wrong.
These guys may have been inept, but an attack like this or worse is not hard to imagine or pull off. Somehow we luck out most of the time, but I don't know why. There certainly are enough nuts out there with no morals, and it's an open free and vulnerable country.
Noah Rothman at National Review has a pretty good summary of this plot. It appears a LOT more serious than the pathetic WaPo suggests. Rothman is no fan of Trump's to say the least. Given the increasing levels of leftwing violence, jet fueled now by the oldest hatred, Jew hatred, I think this is not only plausible but the success of something like this is likely at some point.
Given this plot is it possible the guy at the Correspondents Dinner was merely there to test responses instead of actually succeed in doing real damage? Also given this plot could this also be a part of a much larger effort?
If you think of all the attempts, Butler was the real deal and we still don’t know enough about him. The rest of the efforts could very well be probes. If successful, ok, if unsuccessful so much is learned anyway. Plus people start pooh poohing the attempts. We can never forget how close we came to real tragedy.
From the Rothman article in National Review: (thank you JB)
“At least 23 people were allegedly captured in an encrypted Signal chat plotting to execute a sophisticated, multistage attack on Washington, D.C. — a plot advanced enough that some suspects traveled to nearby Virginia late last week to make final preparations.
The plan reportedly involved the use of “explosive-laden” drones that would strike buildings in the vicinity of the White House during the UFC fight, sparking a mass evacuation. Amid the chaos, a sniper team would open fire on the fleeing crowd of high-profile attendees. A “second stage” would then unfold, in which assailants would storm the White House — presumably in pursuit of as many administration officials as they could reach.
The contours of this attack are familiar. They are evocative of a thwarted attack scheduled to unfold on New Year’s Eve, in which a self-styled “liberation front” planned to attack multiple locations in Los Angeles with explosive devices. The plan reached the point of maturity in which attackers were testing their improvised bombs when the terror cell was broken up by the FBI. That organization’s motives were also as plain as day: “Freeing the world from American imperialism is the only way to a safe and peaceful future,” one of the group’s missives reads.
Neither of these aspiring terrorist operations was as successful as the cell that pulled off a sophisticated ambush of ICE agents in Alvarado, Texas, last year.
On July 4, federal agents were compelled to rush into the parking lot outside the ICE facility when ten people in “black, military-style clothing began shooting fireworks at the facility.” As the agents investigated the scene, their attackers opened up on them with firearms using overlapping fields of fire. One officer was shot in the neck as dozens of rounds were fired in their direction.“
It seems to me that these attacks have a 'feel' about them. Namely that somebody has been coaching military tactics that are taught at the squad level for forward troops on a mission. Tactics that include setting up the battle in advance for cross fire and pinning the targeted in ambush. But is also seems that these advanced tactics are being taught to people with little background or experience or, quite frankly, ability to implement. I saw the suspect's mug shots from the Alvarado raid and it was the usual assortment of angry trannies, pudgy gamers, and basement dwellers, with one or two hard cases - by all appearances, anyway.
But who are the trainers, the operatives with the experience that are in the background, doing the prodding? It's the same with the unrest we saw in 2000: Yes, there were black bloc Antifa soldiers harassing cops and journalists, but there were also messengers and a command structure, staying out at the periphery, directing ops.
It will be interesting to see what unfolds.
Namely that somebody has been coaching military tactics that are taught at the squad level for forward troops on a mission.
Democrats try to make those people Senators…
"People have been taken into custody..."
People -- that's plural, therefore a conspiracy is alleged. There could be hundreds of legitimate reasons to withhold any videos of the arrests, assuming any footage exists. Unlike uniformed police officers, bodycams are not required in FBI operations. Consequently something like the videos of assassination attempt during the Correspondents' Dinner should not be expected.
Chuck Schumer better pray the people arrested turn out to be Iranians or Hamas. If they're connected in any way to the Democratic Party, the shit is going to hit the fan, and anyone downwind, including Schumer and every other Dem leader, is going to stink like hell.
I appreciate Althouse's skepticism regarding publicizing these arrests. However, for liberals, it seems to be another case of Trump faking an endless number of assassination attempts.
These people live in a fantasy world.
quite frankly, ability to implement.
Yep. Talking over the internet doesn't substitute for months of hard training.
People of Leftist and Democratic Party persuasion have lost all credibility. Ignore them.
