South Carolina election shenanigans completed today- Lt Governor Pam Evette ran weeks of ads showing Trump endorsing her. She won the most votes in the primary two weeks ago. Two days ago Trump also endorsed her runoff opponent Alan Wilson. Today Wilson won decisively…and Trump gets to keep his ‘great’ endorsement record…

rehajm ayon kay ...

Evette had big ideas like turning South Carolina into a Florida style economic haven and eliminating income tax. Unfortunately SC is a red state run like a blue state- no way they’d consider losing those hefty taxes…

All this background noise from the usual suspects aside, I think this current deal is much better than the JCPOS.

I'm getting a sense of the Democratic Socialists of America's gaming techniques, since they've been trialing them on the political scene. They're stealthy campaigns, both for mayoral and senate races. The game seems to be to keep things quiet, target the young voters exclusively using social media techniques that are not monitored or covered by Legacy media. For them, the Legacy media is the enemy - the tool of the competitors, the Progressives.

The key is to get their candidate just enough name recognition where they're not a complete surprise on the primary ballots, and then blitz the primary elections to get them on the election ballots. Once safely landed there, they can depend on the ActBlue bunch - the Democrat base - to pull the lever, socialist or not. At that point, they could have a serial child murderer and cannibal on the ballot as a Democrat, and still rely on the 'Never Republican' habits of the Democrat base. They're pretty well along the way to capturing the whole party this way, further than you might think. This is an issue to pay attention to. The Blue cities in states that have no meaningful Republican representation are many in number, and all present very attractive targets.

Via Instapundit, Jon LeFevre posts on X about the NYT story on the "self-driving" Tesla that crashed yesterday, killing a woman

"NYT headline yesterday:

A driver in a Tesla vehicle that was engaged in automated driver-assistance mode crashed into a house in Texas and killed a woman.

Today: Tesla logs confirm the driver manually overrode the self-driving system and had the accelerator floored the entire time."

Chief Sund was Pelosi's (and others) scapegoat. She forced him to resign on Jan 7. Sund was just months away from retirement eligibility and deprived of a job he loved--all so Pelosi could place the blame on his shoulders. Congress should right this wrong.

Chief Steven Sund
@ChiefSund
Before any investigation, Pelosi and her staff were already plotting my removal.

On Jan 6, Pelosi admitted on camera that she was responsible for the security failures at the Capitol. Yet, within 24-hours, she publicly blamed me for Jan 6, demanded my resignation, and claimed I “hadn’t even called.” I spoke with her three times that day.

What she doesn’t say: that it was her Sergeant at Arms who repeatedly denied and delayed my legally required requests for National Guard support before and during the attack — denying my Jan 3 request and then blocking or stalling another half-dozen urgent pleas on Jan 6, until finally authorizing me at 2:09 p.m., more than an hour after my first request. And McConnell’s Sergeant at Arms wouldn’t override Pelosi’s.

Eleven months later, Congress changed the law to let the Capitol Police Chief request the National Guard directly, without Capitol Police Board approval. If I was responsible, why did Congress have to change the law? And if I wasn’t, why were Pelosi and her staff so determined to remove me before any real investigation even began? Several USCP whistleblowers and I have paid a significant price for others’ failures.

Why won’t

Socialists could easily prove the superiority of their preferred system by limiting their purchasing to goods and services produced by Socialist workers in Socialist countries. The purest ones should also verify no capitalist inputs are in the supply chains of the goods they buy. Same way companies here verify no slave labor or “conflict minerals” are in our supply chains.

Once they prove the superiority of their Socialist government and live entirely separate from the evil capitalist free markets of the world all the youngins that view Socialism favorably will flock to their commune and they can build their perfect society.

Mike (MJB Wolf) ayon kay ...

Relying on Muslim voters and candidates to infuse the Democrat Party with socialism is a plan that can very easily end up infusing the theocratic death cult into our Congress and replacing the DNC with something more like the ANC.

Christopher B ayon kay ...

@Mark

It makes sense that driver input to the vehicle controls overrides self-driving mode with no other disengagement necessary (I believe that's a requirement). According to Gemini, the NHTSA estimates over 16,000 accidents (over 40 per day) every year are caused by unintended activation of a vehicle accelerator. The primary issues are 'two-footed' operation of the pedals and loss of spatial orientation, possibly under reaction to stress ("I kept pressing the brake pedal but the car kept accelerating"). Shorter drivers, drivers wearing bulky footwear, improperly installed or bulky floor mats, and cramped footwells also contribute by making it harder to distinguish the pedals, move the foot smoothly between them, or obstructing their operation.

In other words, almost all Sudden Unintended Acceleration incidents are the result of operator error, not failures in the proper operation of a vehicle's systems.

Leland ayon kay ...

The real question is why did the NYT ever claim the accident was caused by the Tesla self-driving? What evidence did they have before making the defamatory claim? Because that was not the reporting in Houston nor anything from official investigators. How did the editors in New York verify that headline?

Mike (MJB Wolf) ayon kay ...

Of course Tesla’s aren’t the only vehicle that records telemetry in case of accidents that can be used to convict people or deny claims.

Leland ayon kay ...

Tesla isn’t the only company that uses proximity sensors and cameras to detect objects ahead of the vehicle to trigger the breaks to function automatically to avoid collision, nor the only company that has an override for that feature when the driver provides acceleration inputs. However, Tesla is one of the few companies that offers that technology as a standard feature in all their cars. You would think the NYT would have editors and lawyers that know this. I can understand them not knowing that such a system is separate from the self-drive system, because they do share the sensors although the computer and software are different units with the breaking system being much simpler and industry standardized, which is why it is more adopted.
