Swatting can end so badly, so I don't want to say this is worse. But I do have to say that one of my first several thoughts was, "I would rather have been swatted (with my kid not home, at least) -than have a false CPS complaint called in!" He's grown now, but still the thought was visceral and took me back to when I was mom of a young kid. How awful that would be. What an awful thing to do. I hope they can trace the caller (I'm gathering that it was someone from another state, claiming she'd had a conversation with Buttegieg at some gathering or another outside of Michigan in the past).
Is doing something like this akin to filing a false police report, at least? I don't know the answer to that.
Is this (the CPS thing) something that's growing? Or is this a one-off?

US strikes Iran after Strait of Hormuz cargo ship attack as ceasefire tensions escalate ~. FOX News
Guys, it’s Friday. We knew something would happen.
Sunday will be another peace announcement.
On one diplomatic track JD Vance is trying to engage with Iran and wind-down an unpopular war. On another diplomatic track Rubio is actively trying to sabotage any agreement between the U.S. and Iran, and effectively restart the war. Trump, meanwhile, is obsessed with building local monuments to himself and is clearly annoyed that the war that he started won't end on his schedule and on his terms. How does any of this resolve?

Had same problem after updating firefox. Switched to Chrome and it works. Somewhat later, a commenter here posted a simple fix for firefox and it works. Cannot remember what it was though. Ask AI.
…wealth taxes would be nearly impossible to implement. Mark to market is simpler for publicly traded stock but trying to value private equity, real estate or other thinly traded assets with any semblance of accuracy- impossible. Might make accountants billionaires just trying to value assets. After that, public equities might disappear, ownership structures would shift to opaque trusts and/or offshore entities. They have no idea the mess that would create…
…and once again the constant reminder that who government targets to pay a tax is always different than who ultimately bears the economic burden of a tax.
I've tried that with my phone when there's some setting I want to change.

IRS gets sued all the time. We’d have dozens of suits for every client because of the unevenness if valuation. So yah maybe they hire an army of lawyers but they’ll never pay for themselves…
It’s pretty obvious when Trump thinks he’s on to a winning formula on something. He now thinks being an anti-communist crusader is the key to the midterms. He’s going to talk about communism every day from now until November. It’s basically 1954.
Like most bipartisan legislation written in secret and voted upon immediately after being introduced, it's an abomination on steroids.
Want more housing for TAXPAYERS? Kick out every undocumented alien. That frees up quite few apartments. And at the same time, opens up a lot jobs. That Americans won't do at the substandard wages the imports were making. Next- eliminate all H1B visas. Same thing- they vacate housing, and wages go up for Americans to take those jobs, and the tech bros have to pay American style wages to Americans.
The US definitely won this war. Iran was obliterated. All Iran has now is control of shipping in Persian Gulf, end of sanctions, unfrozen assets and $300 Billion fund to rebuild.
It is the pervasiveness of mental dysfunction centered on Trump and extending beyond to Congress, the Republican party, and the broad American public that is so disquieting. Can this capsize ever be truly righted?
Or has half the country been wrong about governance ever since 1919 and the rejection of the League of Nations?

"CPS exists for the employment or the otherwise unemployable." Maybe. In a lot of cases, it rather looks as if the "family courts", which operate on much looser standards than the regular courts, are systematically corrupt. In a multitude of ways. Of course, the more BS laws you have, the more BS judges you can pay to administer them. Look at the UK.
"Also: DON'T USE ITALICS." Chill. There are people who can't handle alcohol. There are people who can't handle drugs. There are people who can't handle firearms. There are people who can't handle really powerful automobiles. And, I suppose, there people who can't handle italics. But must that mean that the rest of us can't enjoy, what a defective few can't handle? I think not.
I'm pondering on this. The issue is, that there is an html tag., "", which puts the blog-display software into italic mode. And apparently, the blog-display software is so poorly implemented that it does not turn off italic mode when it has finished rendering a comment. As a systems analyst, I learned to be wary of people, who had personnel issues, which they wanted me to solve with technical solutions. "Make it impossible for the people I don't like to do what I don't want them to be able to do." No, you get your boss to decide who will be able to do what. But yeah, this is, in fact, a software fuck-up.
Democrats have gone from a blue wave to an acute infection of communism. 13 Democrats have signed a pledge that almost sounds like MAGA wrote it. These Democrats were always just leftist Democrats, but are now suddenly called moderate Democrats. It's like compared to Ebola, cancer is a moderate illness. The Commies are gonna get it from both sides. What's a rich dem donor to do? Imagine needing to go Democrats to keep the government from stealing your money. That's a weird development.
I see a lot of clients saying, ‘we made good profits with tech, the Fed is more hawkish, there’s a bit of frothiness going on, let’s take profits’,
SpaceX faces a critical pricing issue. No, it should be called a pricing narrative, not valuation, since many do not prioritize valuation but focus on a narrative-led pricing forecast that diverges from valuation logic. However, this reflects the natural behavior of market participants.
The question is whether other AI-related stocks experience the same issue and to what extent. I see similar situations, but the prevalence of this market pricing narrative phenomenon varies; it is more widespread overall.
Thinking deeply about the stock market is mental masturbation. It can leave you tired and embarrassed if people are watching. It's more rewarding to just dive into the real thing early and often, and avoid premature withdrawal.
"You sure showed everyone. You're not like the others, you're smart, not dumb like them."
You are certainly correct that I was operating under a misconception, as to how the html italics tag works, in the context of the software operating this blog. Which implements the html specification, except for the parts that it doesn't implement. So. Let's see how the bold tag works.
HTML is hypertext markup language. The original idea was that a "text document" could be "marked up" so that when it was displayed, by a suitably enabled html implementation, it would allow capabilities beyond simple text display. This was to be accomplished by putting "tags" around certain parts of the text. The tags would not be displayed, but they would determine how the embedded text was displayed. Tags like italic and bold are pretty obvious, but the href tag was revolutionary. It allowed a text string to be displayed like this, so that it could be clicked on, and cause a new html document to be displayed.
But blogspot does not implement the full html format, or anything close to it. It simply borrows a few tags, like italic and bold. But if you think about it, a tag like italic tells the display engine to use italic font until another tag tells it to stop. That's fine, if you are displaying a single document, produced by a single author. But allowing a tag in one document to affect the formatting of an entirely different document, is a bug. But hey. Blogspot is shitware. What else is new?
"NEW YORK, NY — Cuban Americans across the city reportedly took to the sea, eager to once again escape the terrors of communism in homemade rafts that some believed may not even be capable of making the trip."
Defiant L’s @DefiantLs · 3h Bill Maher: "For years we've been asking young people to vote. Well, now young people are voting and they are voting to abolish the police, abolish prisons, unlimited immigration... Proving, for sure, that eating Tide pods does cause brain damage."
Resist the Mainstream @ResisttheMS · 10h Javier Milei: "When you tell a socialist the truth, they cry, claiming it's 'hate speech.' No, it's not hate speech. It's that you're useless people that have ruined the planet!"
@Jupiter, blogspot has deteriorated by a considerable margin in the twenty years (give or take) that I’ve been commenting on Althouse.
(1). In the early days blogspot checked the tags before posting. If you had an open tag without a matching close tag, it would refuse to post the comment, give you an error message, and tell you which type of tag (I, b, or a) was unclosed. Blogspot doesn’t do that anymore.
(2) Blogspot also gave you an error message if there was a close tag (I, b, or a) without a matching open tag.
(3). There used to be a PREVIEW function do you could more readily check for typos or HTML issues.
(4) Blogspot used to recognize me even if I logged out and reconnected on a different machine, even if using different browser, meaning tgst I still had the little trash can icon on all previous comments. At present I am using Safari and I cannot see the trash can icon a millisecond after posting.
Apparently Google is deliberately trying to chase users off Blogger.
The simultaneous removal of preview AND the trash can is a real downgrade to the commenting experience. You’re more likely to make mistakes and there's nothing you can do about them.
The delete button is a browser thing. I can see the delete button when I use Edge. Also, the remembering your login is a tracking cookie, and if you don’t allow them, you’ll have difficulty.
The other day when setting up a new iPad I noticed that Althouse had added an all-caps DON’T USE ITALICS admonition to her very brief T&C paragraph. But I’m not surprised my fellow commenters still try it. Twas on the iPad that I encountered a refusal to publish because the “tags” were disallowed. They were the standard bold or italics markup commands.
Imagine how much of a political genius Republican you need to be to point out that the Dems are celebrating the elevation of outright and proud communists to political power within their party...
Almost as much of a political genius as you have to be to suspend the "war" for a few months so that gas prices drop precipitously leading up to the mid-term elections...
While publicly "feuding" with Netanyahu who continues to take out Hamas and Hezbollah...
While issuing executive orders requiring voter ID for elections, which get declared "unconstitutional" by leftie judges, thus ensuring appeal and ultimately a Supreme Court decision making photo ID the law of the land.
I'm not saying that Trump is a political genius, but that's what he might do if he was a political genius.
Not true. It’s simply pointing out the obvious… a useful warning that alerts Americans to the rot within these perpetual lowest common denominator persons.
"The shoe fits; extremist Democrats (in name only) must wear it."
New York is not America. Does not translate nationally.
The main thing that the Socialists and MAGA both have going for them is that they acknowledge that things are bad and need fixed. This is more than most most centrists do.
"‘The GOP's last line of defense: "Communist!!" Well, yeah, that is a hill we are prepared to die on. I can think of worse ways to go, actually. It's not so much that the Commies want to steal everything I have, although I do resent that. But the real problem is that, in order to steal everything, they need to impose absolute control on everyone. Millions of people have fled Communism, leaving everything they owned behind, and considered it a good bargain.
After doping the Racing Form and awaiting Sovereignty's next run I am going to send in an $80 box exacta Sovereignty and Baeza and $60 to win on Baeza. Sovereignty was beat by White Abarrio in April but I'm going too fade that one today. Im seeing a quick pace leaving an opening for Abarrio to come flying late and Sovereignty , I believe the best in the field but running with 4 year olds now. He did get beat 1st race back with a strange on the lead run in April not the way he races could have been a primer,Of course prices not too hot therefore shifting to WIN on BAEZA(not much on winning but better placing) but I am hoping to get 4-1 minimum on him.Sovereignty already 6/5 and I don't like odds on favorite in the win pool unless I feel they are unbeatable in the particular spot, its still early for Sovereignty this year. The 3 year old champ likes Churchill and should sit tight 1 or 2 back heading into stretch, not sure what the cheap speed will produce but under 47 and change should bring those two flying at end. I do like Magnitude also but don't care for coming back from overseas winning the Dubai World Cup in March and right back in against 4 in a field of 7 that are hard to sort,On any givin day....And they're off.........
Watching FANDUEL for 3 races I reluctantly changed my bet to win bet on Sovereignty at 6/4 and box MEDITATE THE DUBAI SHIPPER IN THE EXACTA AS THE TRUE SPPED OF THE RACE, sHOULD BE ON LEAD WITH sOVEREIGNTY CLOSING i JUST THING BAEZA WONT GET THE PACE HE NEEDS AS TRACK PLAYING SPEED SO FAR. JUST SHIFTING $$ AND PULLING AN EXACTA SWITCH..I was hoping for fast track but thats horse racing SOVEREIGNTY has wins over churchill and 2 in the mud..Good tomlinson #s ROLL EM
dONATION TO THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF hORSE RACING. MAGNITUDE horse I mispronounced goes wire to wire on muddy wet track and BAEZA slugs up for 2nd where he likes to be. MY win bet horse SOVEREIGNTY not good enough today. Speed was dangerous and had right Idea with speed holding Just thought SOVEREIGNTY was best ,,he wasnt great race good for steve assmusen DUBAI ,SHIPPED TO aMERICA AND WIN 2 MILLION DOLLAR grade 1 SWEET! SMALL DENT IN MY RACING BANKROLL. MAGNITUDE actually broke thru gate before start and still won on lead not usual as that takes a ton out of those beautiful 1000 pound athletes.! Beautiful! next Saratoga COMING UP IN july i WONT PLAY TILL AUGUST LOT OF CHEAPER CLAINMERS ETC IN 1ST TWO WEEKS AFTER THEY EXTENDED SEASON.

It seems we have a twist on swatting, a horrible thing: false CPS calls. Apparently, some random person did this to Pete Buttigieg and his family. Obviously, allegations need to be followed up, and they were, but what a rotten, rotten thing to do.

That's fine, if you are displaying a single document, produced by a single author. But allowing a tag in one document to affect the formatting of an entirely different document, is a bug. But hey. Blogspot is shitware. What else is new?

Indefinitely Extended Excursion™️ said...Guys, it’s Friday. We knew something would happen.
Sunday will be another peace announcement.
Something big happens Friday after markets close, which is undone on Sunday before markets open.
You can set your watch to it.
As I immediately demonstrate the problem with having neither preview nor delete options…
I’m on my phone now and I see the trash can beside my posts.
@rcrommal, Re: CPS swatting. The left created this CPS monstrosity and now a famous Commie gets scorched by it. Too bad.
My friend was the target of a false child abuse charge and CPS came in like Picketts charge. Maybe Butt-Plug will do something to rein them in.
‘The GOP's last line of defense: "Communist!!" ‘
"‘The GOP's last line of defense: "Communist!!"
Well, yeah, that is a hill we are prepared to die on.
But throwing them all out of helicopters into the ocean is also an attractive option.
