Putin warns of fuel shortages as Kyiv intensifies oil refinery strikes ~ The Independent

"Vladimir Putin has conceded that Russia is facing fuel shortages as Ukraine intensifies long-range drone strikes that have set oil refineries ablaze and forced several regions to introduce petrol rationing."

“The sinews of war are infinite money” ~ Marcus Tullius Cicero

Looks like Putin forgot to read his classics.

Not bad for a country whose leader was disgracefully humiliated in the White House early last year.

Who holds the cards now?

I believe what is happening is not some conspiracy hatched at the upper echelons of the WNBA against their top star, Caitlin Clark. What's happening is that most referees (white women) on their own, are choosing to do their outmost to avoid the racist label.

"The biggest gaslight of all is seen in the 4-foot-high, monumental concrete letters engraved atop the building in which Obama humbly quotes himself: “The single most powerful word in our democracy is the word ‘We.’ ”

“We” doesn’t mean what we think it means. It means racial division, Obama style, which was the single legacy of his presidency, paving the way for Trump’s ascension and laying the ground for the Democrats’ current civil war. One day, somebody should take a chisel to those concrete letters and replace “We” with “Me.” At least that would be historically accurate."

Sophie Cunningham and ot Caitlin Clark might end being the break out star of the WNBA. She played on her high school's football team. That in itself is not such a unique achievement. Rose O'Donnell was said to have turned down a pro contract. However, Sophie was not just a place kicker on the football team but also the homecoming queen. She's very good looking. A tier or so below model beauty, but a tier above Caitin Clark in looks if not athletic ability.. You definitely notice her, and not just for her height or three pointers. It will be interesting and informative to see how this plays out. Lots of cross currents of race and sex and mean girls.

rehajm ayon kay ...

…speaking of market manipulation interesting observation from midterm prediction- most of the supposedly data driven forecasters show team red keeping the house and senate while kalshi ‘prediction’ market still 80/20 in favor of a traditional blue flip for the house. They can’t both be right but based on the effects of the commie takeover and Lousiana Kalshi is only confirming prediction markets are too thinly traded to be meaningful. Leland ayon kay ...

It seems businesses like Kalshi are a method to circumvent financial regulations and trade on insider information while also, as you note rehajm, manipulating sentiment about the direction of markets. The latter is likely why politicians don’t care to do anything about it. They want the manipulation. That and they’ve been doing insider trading so long they don’t even remember why it is illegal much less unethical.

Flopping Aces

@FloppingAces

America’s ruling class has performed another miracle.

They took the most basic truths in human civilization ... crime needs punishment, borders need enforcement, schools should teach, welfare should be temporary, families matter, merit matters, and taxpayers should not be looted by professional parasites ... and somehow rebranded all of that as “extremism.”

Incredible work, really.

Apparently, a “compassionate” society is one where the violent repeat offender gets another chance, the victim gets a candlelight vigil, the taxpayer gets the bill, the schoolkid gets passed along illiterate, the fraudster gets a grant, the NGO gets another contract, the illegal alien gets services, and the working American gets told to shut up and be more inclusive.

What a beautiful system.

Soft justice did not stay in the courtroom. It metastasized. It became soft borders, soft schools, soft parenting, soft welfare, soft standards, soft men, and soft bureaucrats explaining why every obvious solution is “too harsh.”

Lock up predators? Cruel.
Deport illegals? Hateful.
End generational welfare? Lacking empathy.
Punish fraud? Complicated.
Restore merit? Problematic.
Teach kids to read? Probably colonialism by Tuesday.

A serious country protects the innocent from the guilty. A decaying country protects the guilty from consequences and makes the innocent finance the experiment.

That’s America’s real crisis.

Not poverty. Not “root causes.” Not another fake expert panel.

Consequences.

We stopped imposing them on the people destroying the country, so now the country imposes them on everyone else.

Chinese and Iranian inspired propaganda. No surprise for anyone here. The Iranians being, up to very recently, Chinese surrogates and pawns.

We have had 80 years of nuclear stability. Amazingly enough. I think much of that is because Communists end up being fairly conservative and risk adverse when they achieve power. China doesn’t use its nuclear weapons against the US or its Allie’s, because Beijing, the center of their power, would effectively cease to exist. Same as the Soviet Union in its time, in regards to Moscow. And with the loss of their capitals, would immediately destroy their own internal power, and, ultimately, their perks.

The difference with Iran is that its rulers didn’t care about that. If they traded Tel Aviv for Tehran, so what? It would just hasten the return of the 12th Mawdi. Which is the goal of every faithful 12er Shi’a.

China can’t afford to attack the US directly. If they nuke the US, they get obliterated. The US survives. They don’t. Economically, they have to play somewhat nice too. They have an export based economy, at a time when they are no longer the low cost manufacturer. Plus, they are resource poor, and esp in terms of oil and gas. Seizing one of their shadow fleet cargo vessels was sufficient to change sides, and cut Iran adrift. Plus the maps showing their shadow fleet and where their freight is being transshipped.

Iran, as a Chinese surrogate, was willing to do whatever it could to blow up the Middle East. If a lot of Israelis died - fine. They are not Muslim, and Arent paying the protection money required of them by their Prophet, And most of the Muslims resisting their hegemony are evil Sunnies. While the Chinese backed Iranians were busy blowing up the Middle East by supporting the Iranians, the Chinese were also shipping fentanyl precursors to Central American. Again aimed at weakening the US.

"Soros Family Pours $103 Million Into Midterms.George Soros and his son Alex have steered roughly $102.8 million into the 2026 midterm cycle, the bulk of it routed through the family-controlled Democracy PAC, putting the clan atop The Washington Post’s tally of individual donors and on pace to eclipse the elder Soros’ $128 million record from 2022 with more than four months still to go before November.

The mechanics tell the real story.

Only $793,800 of the cycle’s contributions sit under George Soros’ own name in Federal Election Commission filings.

The rest, about $102 million, ran through Democracy PAC, the super PAC the family launched in 2020 to consolidate its federal political spending.

Of that, $52 million arrived via Geosor, the private corporation in the elder Soros’ name, and $50 million via Fund for Policy Reform, the nonprofit whose tax filings list Alex Soros as director.

Alex Soros added another $140,525 in personal contributions.

That structure is legal but consequential.

One consequence is that Democrats always talk about confiscating billions from Musk, but never Soros."

Okay there's a guy in your town who has been in an angry, sometimes violent feud over a property line dispute with one of his neighbors for years. He is obsessed with the issue, mentally unstable and capable of anything. He has had access to explosives through his work and police have reason to believe he is building a large bomb in his basement. They contact him, but he won't cooperate or comply with a search warrant.
There is an exchange of gunfire. Police surround the house and block off the street and a standoff begins. It becomes a drawn out affair inconveniencing neighbors and drivers who use that street.
IEE: All I know is, the street was open before police started trouble with this guy.

The least appreciated thing any leader can do is to successfully prevent an impending disaster before most see it coming. It's also the greatest accomplishment of leadership. What makes it even less appreciated is if there are significant costs, even when those costs are well worth it.

You know what you don't hear much about in this "war" with Iran? American combat deaths, but I'm sure there are plenty of "Americans" pining for that. I wish them great disappointment in all things.

You also don't hear about what anybody would have done about Iran after it got nuclear weapons and then closed the Strait as it wanted to do. Just as you don't hear anybody talking about the war crimes committed by Iran when it intentionally targeted civilian vessels and mined international waters, because if they did talk about it, then they would have to explain how they would hold Iran accountable in a way that Trump isn't. Don't talk about sanctions, because all those ships that the military interdicted under Trump were violating those sanctions with impunity, until Trump stopped them.

Indefinitely Extended Excursion™️ ayon kay ...

I've heard of "weekend warriors", but this is taking it to the extreme. Trump bombs Iran over weekends, but before the markets open on Monday, assures us peace is at hand.

Any time Kushner and Witkoff take the lead, you can assume that negotiations are likely to hit a wall. A couple weeks ago Vance and the "restrainers" finally had some say and there were at least some signs of progress. But after last week, it looks like the neo-conservatives around Rubio appear to be running the show this week. Trump's coalition and administration, hopelessly divided.

Trump is still desperate to keep the war from re-heating up between now and November. However, he is stuck between appeasing different factions within his own coalition, the overwhelming unpopularity of the war in the U.S., even with Republican voters, and the Israelis lust for war at America's expense.

One of the reasons that Trump was such a natural ally for the Israel lobby is because of his experience working with organized crime in New York, Florida, and the former Soviet Union. In his second term in particular, It is the same thing.
