June is my tag renewal month and I decided to get a customized plate. There’s a website you can apply for the tag type and verbiage and reserve it for five days. I entered my data (an abbreviation of my favorite Widespread Panic song) and received an email that it was on hold but that it was not approved, and I needed to apply in person.
I went to the courthouse and told them about the hold and they called down to Montgomery for clarification. The tag people at the state wanted to know what the letters meant. I explained it to the clerk who relayed it to them. Still not good enough.
Since it’s a Gadsden Flag plate, they wanted to make sure it wasn’t a secret alt-right message or something. I’m not kidding. They searched the web, googled the band and the song, and even checked the Urban Dictionary before finally approving it. Too funny…

Fun fact: the Asian Black Bear is also called the “Moon Bear” because it has a cream-colored patch high on its chest, shaped between a shallow V and a quarter moon.
Another fun fact: the species is comfortable walking bipedally for hundreds of yards at a crack, and some zoologists have expressed a belief that the Tibetan Yeti tracks might have been made by an Asian Black Bear.

All the election fraud nonsense from MAGA for 6 years -- court cases, airtime, hearings, investigations, conspiracies, audits -- all due to one single reason:
Trump has never admitted that he lost a contest in his entire life.
Gong to the Stanley Cup Game in Vegas tomorrow. I picked game four hoping for a Golden Knights sweep, but the Hurricanes pulled out the second game after trailing most of it. A great series so far: high scoring, going back and forth, and 2 of 3 games have gone into sudden death overtime. Vegas is great place to see a hockey game. Fans are loving and well behaved, even friendly with opposing fans. You walk out of the game and you are right on the Vegas strip. Same with football games, and soon, baseball as the new ballpark is going up fast on the former sight of the Tropicana. Vegas know how to build stuff, and fast. Go Knights Go!!!
CA already turned down the signature verification system sensitivity to 40%, and now you can't even dispute signatures that fail that. Yep, very secure. I mean, the bureaucrats in the one-party government said so. You would have to be dumb to not trust them.

California State Portal: “Yes, you can mail your California vote-by-mail ballot to any county elections office, but it must be postmarked on or before Election Day and received within seven days after Election Day to be counted.”
Or I suppose all of the counties, assuming you have a copy machine.
The California Democrats have made if clear they can be trusted to do only one thing - make sure the Democrats win. There's a lot of $$ at stake. General Fund spending for Calf is expected to be $250 billion.
Its just the old Chicago/NJ/Tamney Hall machine. Only on a massive scale. And the political crooks have tans and College degrees.
Who believes that ballots that arrive without a postmark in California are being discarded? If you do, I wonder if you might be willing to invest is a new CA bullet train. Plan is to finish it by Christmas.

"Look, some of these efforts are so diabolical and so far upstream it's impossible to prove. But I think everybody knows instinctively that something is wrong here." ~ Speaker Mike Johnson
Democrats are so diabolical and ingenious at rigging elections that Republicans control the presidency, house and senate.
Who is going to stop the counting of invalid votes that come in a few day past the deadline or have late postmarks, or no signature? By some chance there might be someone there who would refuse, but there will be someone else, likely a supervisor, who will make sure they get run through.
"Democrats are so diabolical and ingenious at rigging elections that Republicans control the presidency, house and senate."
Nobody said ingenious. Nobody even thought that. What they are is shameless, and it's the only reason they ever win much at all. The dumb are not a majority. It's a big number, but not enough on it's own.
As I alluded to a day or two ago, what is striking to me is the complete abandonment of the principle that elections should be held to a high standard, one that obligates the officials to ensure that all citizens have faith in their electoral processes - that they can trust the outcomes are fair. We do not live in that territory any longer.
Many lessor-developed, poorer nations are able to process elections in 24 hours and have provable processes that can withstand an audit, and voter identification processes that eliminate the need for challenge. They have oversight that confirms this, independently.
Yet, in Progressive strongholds, these principles are fought tooth and nail, and anyone that objects is dismissed as a crank. There is a steadfast refusal to acknowledge a problem with election integrity. The question of whether citizens trust their electoral process is completely rejected. In effect, they are told that they do.
The fact that this dichotomy exists is a red flag. One side of the political divide insists there is fraud and proposes actions to investigate and correct it; the other insists that there is no fraud, hiding behind rhetorical devices with phony language like 'debunked' and 'without evidence', while stubbornly refusing to allow the process required to debunk or examine the evidence. They avoid any acknowledgement of actual, verifiable evidence as being 'evidence', while refusing to recognize dozens of criminal convictions on exactly these charges. The very fact of this dichotomy should compel honest leaders to address the problems head on until they are resolved, one way or another. The legitimacy of the electoral process should be elevated above the pettiness of campaigns, in importance.
The continual refusal to do so illustrates that our leadership does not truly care whether the populace trusts their elections or not. Trust no longer matters, on a local basis, in places like California.
The driver of the bus controls the machine. The needs and preferences of the passengers are irrelevant; they are simply a source of fares.

“US Attorney for California Bill Essayli has attempted to undertake an investigation of California's allegedly fraudulent voting process, saying that "protecting the integrity of California's elections is a top priority for my office." However, he said that California is now blocking a federal audit of its voter rolls. This is a state that "allows first-time voters to register" to vote using gym membership cards, employer ID cards, credit or debit cards, prescription drug labels, and insurance cards in a state that allows illegal immigrants to get state-funded insurance. None of these identification methods shows a social security number or proof of US citizenship.”
There an interesting strategy Trump was highlighting to game the system and get voting integrity passed in congress- fire the parliamentarian. The old one is an Obama era hack bit a new one could allow voting integrity rules as part of a spending package, the type that needs only a simple majority vote and avoids filibusters. The Industrial Homeless NGOs have quite the system. They earn money from the state for every homeless person in LA, use some of the cash to ply them with drugs to “sustain” them, use them to sign any petition or voting registration scheme they deem necessary, use them to acquire tens of thousands of mail-in ballots, then of course take those ballots and fill in the proper vote to keep the NGOs going and growing. John Hinderaker (Power Line): “Seriously, I do think that the U.S. may be in the process of breaking up. When Democrats say they would like to live in a different country, I think it means they want a country of their own–a socialist country where there are 256 genders, no rich people, no free speech, no religion. Someday, I think they may get it. Because there is no basis for common citizenship between us, who love our country and want to preserve it, and them, who hate our country and want to destroy it.”
I concur. The future is not bright for a united country. How can one achieve common ground with people who hate you? You can’t.
Speaking of soccer, my favorite rule is the one about "offside". I mean I can totally understand why lefties like Inga and IEE love it...because it's so unfair that the offensive team has players that are a lot faster than the little country's defending team.
Just imagine the possibilities if lefties imposed that rule on American football or basketball. No long TD passes, no fast break dunks. Tie games. Nil-nil final scores. Demand it, Inga. It's only fair.
…most of it is posturing. Rosie came back after all…we’re seeing a steady flow of defections from Democrat madness and despite efforts to support the party from both sides or the aisle with voter fraud and entitlement fraud there’s evidence 2024 election numbers are not just an anomaly or just Trump love. Should the trend continue and they keep losing in court the left will swiftly pivot from the cabal model to something else, maybe even something palatable for normal people…
Mainstream media election experts are arguing that Karen Bass and her supporters did not steal the primary election from Spencer Pratt because Pratt would have been the weaker opponent in the run off election. Bass was ahead of him by 18 points and ahead of Raman by 4. This ignores the possibility that Pratt who began as an unknown would continue to rise in the polls, but never mind. The more interesting point this ignores is the possibility that Raman supporters engaged in California balloting in behalf of their candidate and that this explains the sudden and major increase in ballots in favor of Raman among the election day mail-in ballots. A far-left Dem uses the California Dem system of balloting in an organized way against the establishment-left Dem. LA people, so creative. And, of course, Karen Bass can't say one word implying that the balloting system in use has creative possibilities which the Democratic Socialist party has just exploited. Raman will wreck LA further if "elected" but this "election" is more interesting for the fact that it will test the limits of the old saying: Never cheat a cheater.
"The UK has backtracked on its pledge to ban slave labour from its renewable supply chain to meet Ed Miliband's Net Zero goals.
Labour enshrined in law a promise that its state-run company GB Energy would not fund companies using forced labour.
But following a probe that revealed that it had funded solar panels for schools without guarantees that they were ethically manufactured, it rowed back.
In a statement, the energy department introduced a new caveat to say that it would only ensure panels were free from forced labour 'as far as possible'."
Perhaps we will see Pratt votes beginning to overtake Raman as the Dems slowly count the outlying parts of LA. Perhaps large batches of lost votes for Pratt will magically appear deep in Watts territory.
Speaking of the NHL’s Vegas Golden Knights, this is a great story on their goalie Carter Hart. A player the Commie left in Canada tried to railroad. Shades of the Duke lacrosse fiasco.
wildswan @7:04am, exactly what I'm thinking. I see no reason to think people who voted for Pratt in the primary would switch to Bass in the general in large numbers, and similarly few who voted for Raman would be likely to switch to Pratt (and the harvested ballots certainly wouldn't). Sufficient votes would be found to defeat Pratt in the general regardless of who he ran against. The only reason to keep Raman in the race in such an obviously implausible manner is she's been selected as the eventual winner by the same means.
With downtown office vacancy at a record 35.6%, more restaurants are shuttering while Mayor Katie Wilson responds to fleeing businesses with one word: “Bye.”
Wow, Mayor Katie Wilson is quite the dismissive tool, isn't she?
Meanwhile; "Georgia has not eliminated property taxes, but Gov. Brian Kemp signed legislation to provide homeowner relief by capping annual property tax assessment increases at the rate of inflation. Local municipalities may also hold referendums to implement a sales tax to further offset property taxes."
Florida is considering property tax relief, too. Gov. DeSantis in a special session got a measure passed that will appear as a referendum on the fall ballot.
Here's an AI summary (I didn't feel like hand-typing a report from the local paper, sorry): "Key components of the amendment include raising the homestead exemption to $150,000 in 2027 and $250,000 in 2028 (with inflation indexing), implementing a 5-year residency requirement for new residents to receive the full exemption, and lowering the assessment cap on non-homestead properties from 10% to 5%. Additionally, the measure restricts local government spending and requires a 60% supermajority to pass." (end AI)
This apparently will not replace the Senior Citizen Long-Term exemption. However, as part of the legislative process, school taxes are exempt.
In any case, I am hoping it passes, just for selfish reasons. I recently bought a house in cash in The Villages, and so I wrote my first property tax check pretty recently. You really get the impact when you literally sit down and pay the taxes directly.
Either way, it'll be fine, but I do intend to vote "yes." I am hoping this will be very helpful to fellow Florida citizens who are really struggling with homeowners insurance costs, in that it the savings might help offset them. As Florida goes, due to my specific location, my insurance costs aren't as steep (though much more than I've paid in any other state). But they were formidable on a previous home, and just about impossible to get on a shop property also owned.
I just think California is incredibly sloppy about its security from fraud. I don't think "the fix is in." I don't think the government is picking a winner here. I think it's the opposite: they have no controls over the voting process, which allows dark money to hijack elections.
"Speaking of soccer, my favorite rule is the one about "offside". I mean I can totally understand why lefties like Inga and IEE love it...because it's so unfair that the offensive team has players that are a lot faster than the little country's defending team."
They have similar rules in hockey and American football.
Also, you just have to wait until the ball is touched and then you can run as fast as you want past the other team. It's similar to how a wide receiver cannot start running down the sideline before the ball is snapped.
AAPL spiked to a new high momentarily yesterday. Then reversed and sold off to create an Outside day. The spike capped a 10-day triple top. The reversal is continuing lower so far today despite index rallies.

Nothing. You can rationalize gibberish, but it is still gibberish. The market is still higher than the last time you claimed it must collapse because of your gibberish. Trying out cliches instead of gibberish doesn’t make you a better analyst. The only reason you are interesting at all is because the market seemingly acts completely the opposite of your gibberish. It is up again just now, all indices. That consistency of being wrong may mean something, but I suspect it too is gibberish.
Vote fraud is easy. Especially if there is mail in voting and 'motor voter' in your state. If the voter rolls have never been culled then there is a huge block of democrat voters.

State election officials testifying under oath say that voting by mail is secure. But an AI video in the MAGA2028 Facebook group says it’s rife with fraud. For the busy Althouse commentariat, it can be hard to know who to trust.
All the election fraud nonsense from MAGA for 6 years -- court cases, airtime, hearings, investigations, conspiracies, audits -- all due to one single reason:
Trump has never admitted that he lost a contest in his entire life.
So an entire party must sound like idiots.

Yea, that's not the problem. Election integrity should not be on the honor system. BTW, who do you trust?
CA already turned down the signature verification system sensitivity to 40%, and now you can't even dispute signatures that fail that. Yep, very secure. I mean, the bureaucrats in the one-party government said so. You would have to be dumb to not trust them.

Democrats are so diabolical and ingenious at rigging elections that Republicans control the presidency, house and senate.
The left have stolen our elections thru dem power sanctioned open fraud laws.
I may have seen that on wuthering heights

There an interesting strategy Trump was highlighting to game the system and get voting integrity passed in congress- fire the parliamentarian. Kalshi is doing this free soccer promotion to get people on the app. You pick the winner, and you split $1,000,000 with everybody else who picked the winner.
I picked Argentina, figuring that maybe I'll pick up $10 or something. I just looked it up, and there are 5 million active users on the site. I'm not even going to win breakfast money if I'm right.
But, if you pick a long-shot, and you're right? You might win a few thousand bucks. Might be fun to do if you have soccer knowledge and intuition.
Here are the odds right now:
Spain 16.5%
France 16.3%
Portugal 10.3%
England 10.2%
Argentina 8.9%
Brazil 8%
Germany 6%
Netherlands 4.7%
Norway 2.5%
Belgium 2.3%
Columbia 2%
Mexico 1.9%
Japan 1.9%
Morocco 1.7%
USA 1.6%
Turkey 1.2%
Switzerland 1.1%
Uruguay 1%
Croatia 1%
Czechia 1%
Bosnia and Herzegovina 1%

Iraq 1%
Ecuador 0.9%
Senegal 0.8%

Egypt 0.3%
Australia 0.2%
Ghana 0.2%

Haiti 0.2%
The bottom 10 are all sitting at 0.1% odds. (Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, New Zealand, Uzbekistan, Jordan, Cape Verde, South Africa, Qatar, Curacao, Panama).

It’s a cancer on a city, composed of human cells run amok.

Starmer and Miliband bring slavery back to Britain in service to climate change cult.
Perhaps large batches of lost votes for Pratt will magically appear deep in Watts territory.
we all remember the easy grace with which Democrats nationwide accepted that electoral result.
“Selected not elected” predates the iPhone, so progressive hope we will forget.

PS: Did I mentioned there are no Canadian teams in the Stanley Cup finals? *cough*
wildswan @7:04am, exactly what I'm thinking.

But they were formidable on a previous home, and just about impossible to get on a shop property also owned.
she's been selected as the eventual winner
I'm not that cynical.
I just think California is incredibly sloppy about its security from fraud. I don't think "the fix is in." I don't think the government is picking a winner here. I think it's the opposite: they have no controls over the voting process, which allows dark money to hijack elections.
They've flooded the zone with ballots, including ballots to dead people and ballots to people who have moved away from California.
It's like how they allowed all these criminals to hijack unemployment benefits. They're not nefarious masterminds. More like sloppy fuck-ups.

They have similar rules in hockey and American football.
Also, you just have to wait until the ball is touched and then you can run as fast as you want past the other team. It's similar to how a wide receiver cannot start running down the sideline before the ball is snapped.
