"President Donald Trump has spent much of his second term putting his personal stamp — and in many cases his image — on American institutions. Now his eponymous impulses ..."
"... have expanded to the celebration of America’s 250th anniversary. Trump’s face will be stamped on a celebratory gold coin marking the semiquincentennial. His stern visage will peer from commemorative passports. Administration officials are pushing for a $250 bill featuring the president’s portrait. On Trump’s 80th birthday, June 14, the White House lawn will transform into a ring for a 'Freedom 250' UFC fight.... The pattern has culminated with many performers withdrawing from the Great American State Fair, one of the anniversary’s marquee events, after saying they did not realize how closely it was associated with Trump. The president responded by announcing he will headline the event himself, since he is [as he wrote] 'the Number One Attraction anywhere in the World, the man who gets much larger audiences than Elvis in his prime, and he does so without a guitar.' Historians, political leaders and others worry that America’s 250th birthday, which might have been an opportunity to pull a divided country together, is becoming so much about Trump that it will instead be just one more polarizing event on the national landscape...."

LOL. Translation. "leftists and Democrats worry trump will get too much favorable publicity"
Whatever the question, whatever the topic, "Sour-faced Trump haters just can't..." is probably the right answer.
Cleve removes all doubt every time
Trump haters can’t see how their chronic hatred empowers Trump.
"The pattern has culminated with many performers withdrawing from the Great American State Fair"
Prima donnas hate other prima donnas. Frankly I'm surprised some of that lineup is still breathing.
Death threats can lead to that
The left could easily make this “not about Trump” by choosing to celebrate the United States as patriotic Americans. That is not their preference.
“ Writes Cleve R. Wootson Jr.”
Is that pronounced “clever Wootson”?
Do Democrats need their own human cage fighting match to celebrate America’s semiquincentennial?
Give us the Musk vs Zuck fight we were promised.
One would think that a person named Cleeve would celebrate fractured division.
Trump could bait a trap with dog shit and still get get the libtards to bite
It really is just about the people who support the united states as founded and a bunch of thieves and tribal barbarians that want to tear the country down and steal everyone else's stuff.

Definitely a woeful failure to value our history and magnificent contributions to mankind. When a Sacramento politician can turn her back on the flag during the Pledge of Allegiance and still get over 20,000 votes in a congressional primary race, we are in very deep, cold waters.

They really despise this country dont they
Remember that big military parade Trump put on — last year, on his birthday, which was billed as a celebration of the U.S. Army’s 250th anniversary?
It was a warning that neither maduro or khamenei heeded one is in prison the other one is dead
O’Reilly said last night, that what the performers are actually responding to are threats to their lives and threats to destroy their careers.
And o reilly like a blind squirrel got it right
Trump should have pushed for a non-partisan event, but would it really have helped?
Innovative and perhaps incorrect use of "eponymous."
A political strategy devised by the Romans—for which the phrase "bread and circuses" was coined in the first century AD—is still relevant around the world today. This expression captures the essence of what’s at stake better than the phrase “it’s the economy, stupid.”
Its a commemoration they tell you exactly how they feel about this country they told us in 2020
Trump has been doing some silly things. But they’re the kind of things that piss off the kind of people I like to see pissed off, so I’m OK with it.
"Sour-faced Trump haters just can't relax and enjoy Trump's tireless efforts to make the semiquincentennial magnificent."
I favor smiley-faced Trump to sour-faced Trump, but either way, he beats the alternatives. Yes, I parsed it differently, but that's how I saw it at first

Other than the victims of assassination, Trump has sacrificed, endured, more than any other President. The rest of us have had to endure openly seditious behavior from the new “Democrats” and their press puppets and the demeaning of our Presidency by the “election” of Joe Biden, a demented grifter. Trump’s boorishness coupled with the sedition will diminish his legacy, but he is certainly entitled to have some fun. Sane people will be amused.
It IS an opportunity for a divided nation to come together and lefties are shitting on it because they’re not in charge…
The difference between the two options give in Althouse's poll were minuscule, so I made my choice by a virtual coin-toss, literally. I had forgotten that I keep an Israeli shekel on my desk for silly choice resolution purposes.
“O’Reilly said last night, that what the performers are actually responding to are threats to their lives and threats to destroy their careers.“
Cancel culture alive and well, sadly.
The trouble is that Trump blends sincere patriotism with his routine self promotion. After all, he became a national figure with "Trump Tower" with its stone-and-waterfalls atrium. It is linked to his political career, for that's where he rode the escalator to start his 2016 campaign.
He's pushing for a sincere 250 celebration, but wipes his scent on his "territory" like a dog peeing on a post. Still, a Biden or Harris 250 celebration would have prioritized rainbow flags and defund the police and open borders -- not a celebration but a revolution. Given the 2016 to 2026 era, there's no clean option.
We've been in a cultural civil war since GW Bush's Iraq invasion and/or Obama's backdoor use of the IRS and EPA...so this is what can be done in 2026...
I really don't care about an event in DC. I would rather have smaller events in each and every state. Have performers from that state, or at least that region. Maybe a big screen that shows the headliners for the 1st 13 states do a performance together (from separate locations) and then they hand it off to the next states to join who will hand it off to the rest in order of statehood. (This may not be practical, but it would be nice to have something that unites them while still keeping each separate.)
I was reading that a sesquicentennial event this week was sabotaged when somebody cut a generator fuel line and let it run out on the ground. I'm expecting a lot more of that, unfortunately. There are some who have dedicated 4 years of their life to causing any kind of mischief and harm they can, and they've had the training to make them effective. Hard to fight that - but not impossible.
Down in their cores lefties are secretly grateful to Trump. He has relieved them of the burden of pretending to love the country and offered them the opportunity to release their inner sociopathic children. Additional credit goes to Obama.
I remember the US Army parade that was entirely made up of the US Army, and claiming it was “military” suggests it was more than the US Army as a way of suggesting it wasn’t about the US Army and instead about Trump’s birthday.
Public events in DC have been "putting people in cages" since Trump 2017, ANTIFA, BLM, COVID, and organized action. Everything requires a security check and a very very long queue to get in.
It'll seem a lot better on TV than in person.
Every day the media tells you to focus in on some little thing, blow it out of proportion and seethe about it.
Zoom out.
I was reading that a sesquicentennial event this week was sabotaged when somebody cut a generator fuel line
I read the NBC news coverage of this. Or, rather, I started reading. I stopped at - "Representatives from Freedom 250 said the incident was the result of “vandalism.”"
Vandalism may be a quote, but to have only that one word in quotations implies NBC doesn't believe it was vandalism.
I was going to say something really rude about NBC, but instead I'll say NBC, CBS, and ABC need to get out of the news business and just produce TV shows.

Democrats are attacking police and ICE, burning American flags in the streets with foreign invaders, and trying to imprison and murder their political opponents succeeding in many cases.
And people still want to talk about “non-partisan.”
The funeral of Charlie Kirk was as nonpartisan as you will get at this point.
"President Donald Trump had some advice for George Washington. Trump learned that Washington was one of the major real-estate speculators of his era. So, he couldn’t understand why America’s first president didn’t name his historic Virginia compound or any of the other property he acquired after himself."
“If he was smart, he would’ve put his name on it,” Trump said, according to three sources briefed on the exchange. “You’ve got to put your name on stuff or no one remembers you.”

Trump’s personality cult did not build itself. Behind every gold statue, every fawning cabinet speech, every rebranded institution stands a willing participant. Narcissism requires an audience. The real question is not what Trump thinks of himself, but why so many have been so eager to agree.
They are so worried they are shitting on our 250th. Way to go lefties! Do you remember how shitty the economy was in 1976? I do.
Poor little IEE. So upset that Trump is trying to have as many gold statues as Saint Obama, and Saint George Floyd do....
O’Reilly said last night, that what the performers are actually responding to are threats to their lives and threats to destroy their careers.
And he has what proof of this bullshit statement?
The death threats to rockers who had committed is a **chef's kiss** touch from leftists! We can't celebrate America together or you will kill people. Very on-brand DNC!
At the time of my comment, the poll is almost exactly 2:1 recognizing the sour-faced Trump haters are the problem. Which makes about 1/3 of poll takers either willfully blind to the sour-faced Trump haters or so exceedingly generous of spirit that they will be punched by the next Antifa they meet.
The left want to burn it all down with their antifa thug criminal insurrectionists.

"Historians, political leaders and others worry that America’s 250th birthday, which might have been an opportunity to pull a divided country together."
Absolutetly risible statement. It would have been a great opportunity for a Harris administration to bring people together, but there was ZERO chance of that happening. It was already planned to be just another exercise imposing collective historical guilt on normal Americans and their predecessors.
Any positivity at all would have been limited to a ridiculous "arc of progress" narrative in which the only real achievements of America were creating a "civil rights" bureaucracy in the 1960s and electing Obama and Harris.
Text emails flier
Freder needs actual bullets and death as proof.
Just an actual text message or post on social media would satisfy me. Otherwise, it is just O'Reilly and Mike spewing bullshit.
I am a fan of Martina McBride and I read her Facebook post withdrawing from fest. She didn't mention anything about threats and in the responses her right wing fans were quite pissed off, promising her she would be treated like the Dixie Chicks were (which of course, included actual death threats).

Infinite X, GW owned a lot of the land that became DC. He was not compensated for it, because he retained ownership - it just was in the Federal District now, instead of VA or MD. Probably increased in value because of it, though. And of course the District was eventually named after him. CC, JSM
Indefinitely … (9:32): “Trump’s personality cult did not build itself.” More deranged projection by Democrats to detract from their mindless adulation of Barack the Lightbringer, Billary, et al., in an era of Democrat amorality and incompetence. Charlie Kirk only ever asked or offered to engage in a debate on the merit of ideas - nothing more.
Charlie Kirk was murdered, by a confused teen who aligns himself with what kind values? Progressive Liberal values.
You were asking for facts - right? Yet, when presented with them, you call 'Bullsh*t'.
Bad Faith.

I was asking for facts about artists who were threatened for their participation in the National State Fair (or whatever it was called). Charlie Kirk's murder is irrelevant to this conversation.

I'm not feeling anything about the upcoming celebration. I suppose I'm going to wait and see.
I didn't answer the poll because neither response is anywhere close to what I think.
1. The American left won't let anyone feel deep patriotism and reverence for this country. I don't think this is arguable - they say right out that "patriotism" is no virtue but rather a residue, at best, of "white nationalism." When they do invoke "patriotism," they only ever mean what we used quaintly to call "dissent" but now properly call "riots" - that's when there is a Republican in office - or unquestioning conformity to their wishes - that's when it's a Democrat. Ordinary Democrats may not be on board with this misuse of the word "patriotism," but their leaders are cool with being vassals of the progressives and they don't actually have any real populist pushback, only performative DSA crap, so there you go.
2. I think Trump is doing some trolling around this event rather than expending "tireless efforts" to make it "magnificent," and while I sympathize, dang, I wish he could let it go, just for this event.
So to get close to my position, there would have had to be a "No matter whether Trump did everything flawlessly to make this event a celebration of this nation, the American left would have done all in its power to stymie him and sour the American public even further on patriotism."
In the absence of an option like that, the poll is incomplete in my opinion.
George Washington owned a lot of land in what is now West Virginia. There were large tracts of undeveloped land on the Ohio and Kanawha Rivers. Washington and his brothers also owned land in the Eastern panhandle of the state (the part that wanted to stay with Virginia). The Father of Our Country had no children, but his brothers' descendants still live there.
Trump's advice fits the United States of Amnesia and Advertising, but the Founders probably thought that they would long be remembered as Rome remembered its early heroes. They didn't believe they needed to put their names on things as grateful citizens would do that on their own.
Got a haircut. Viet barber, same for over a decade. He started talking about Trump and was really freaking out. Mentioned j6 and Pelosi running for her lifeI just said I don't pay attention, and I agreed that Trump is crazy. After all, the guy has pointy scissors at my head.
Anyway, wondering what drove him so crazy, it dawned on me, he has tv going all day and I suspect he gets his info from :The View 'cause he repeated some of the same stuff that my innocent 90 year old aunt does.
As typing this, occurs to me to check what time the program is on, and take a ride by his shop and confirm my suspicion.
Interesting thing about him and my aunt, they both seem genuinely frightened by Trump. The power of propoganda.

At least 90% of them are on foreign payrolls and taking money from foreign governments.
Most of them push open borders and openly supported the BLM criminal organization. Many are affiliated with the known terrorist organization Antifa and many are tied to the SPLC, another criminal organization.
A huge number of them have open CCP spies on their staff.

You are too stupid to understand why we support Trump.
Your only purpose here is to pretend to not understand obvious things.
You are just a really fucking stupid person.
I voted for the second one, but only because the performers decided to virtue signal rather than take the opportunity given to celebrate our marvelous nation. Did they expect Trump to say "Oh, you're right and I'm sorry. I'll just go away?"
I laugh when Democrats say "if it weren't for Trump, we'd be united as a country". Did this guy miss Zombie Joe's speech wherein he called MAGA "semi-fascists"? Did he miss the 400 times Democrats insisted that "White Supremacy" (meaning Trump and his supporters) is the biggest threat to America?
Democrats live in a media-controlled isolation bubble unaware that there are different "lived experiences" that don't revolve around Democrat dogma.
Do I wish we had more in common, like celebrating the 250th year of our country with unity? Sure. But I didn't start the fire. And neither did Trump.
