I absolutely love, love this. The shapes and line and composition are wonderful, and the color sublime. Thanks!

Oh gosh, more red algae bloom... And look, green algae right there in the water at Althouse feet.

Remember when the Left pointed to Europe as their model for enlightened political policy?

Per Grok:

The EU Pact on Migration and Asylum entered into force in June 2026. It emphasizes border screening, accelerated asylum/return procedures (often at borders), mandatory solidarity mechanisms, and faster processing. Complementary Return Regulation measures (passed in Parliament with strong support, e.g., votes around 389–418 in favor) include mutual recognition of return orders across member states, extended detention, “return hubs” in third countries, and efforts to raise the historically low ~20% effective return rate for rejected asylum seekers. hrw.org

The tide has turned. Seems that Obama and Biden were on the wrong side of history.

It's been about a year now since blogger.com stopped formatting for mobile. I've tried everything, So my reading has fallen off accordingly. Desktop is just too hard to read on a phone.

Here’s a trivia question that got me.

Name the U.S. president whose first language wasn’t English.

The beauty of that pic disturbs me… almost to the point of insanity... There. I am insane now.

Sven: what do you have there Ole?

Ole: Lena got it for me. It’s the darndest thing. It’s called a thermos. It keeps hot things hot and keeps cold things cold?

Sven: so what do you have inside?

Ole: Soup and a popsicle.

Martin van Buren

(That was the one day I was paying attention in 4th grade).

Name the first First Lady who wasn’t the first and hardly a lady.

Martin van Buren was born 150 years after his first Dutch ancestor immigrated to New Amsterdam. 150 years before my birth, none of my ancestors had immigrated to America yet.

How do it know?

A brighter sun would have produced red, white, and blue! Brava!

I miss the lake sunrises. Sunrise over the Susquehanna is obscured by downtown Harrisburg (ew) and decent upriver photo ops are an hour's drive away.

Beautiful image. A little help from Photoshop could clean up the areas of demarkation (if that's the right word).

"How do it know?"

Indeed!

180 years before my birth, at least 3 of my great-great-great-great-great grandfathers were soldiers in the War of Independence. They weren’t MAGA but they sure were MAG.

The Moon occults Venus a little after 1 pm today. Easily visible once you find the crescent Moon in the sky. Be a great shot over the lake in the E/SE sky about 2/3 to zenith.
