JD Vance went on Bill Maher's show, and here's a segment of what was, I think, an excellent interview.

I've watched the whole thing (on HBO), and this isn't the segment I'd choose, but what am I going to do? The show selects the clips to share. Watch this though. JD gets a big laugh.

Why would anyone watch the Hilllbilly lie>

You get nice and hard-working Mexican illegals who make fine neighbors, but there's one thing. That nice person decided to enter illegally in spite of the laws against it, not to help out but for his own advantage. That's the reason for the deportation.

Vance is right, of course. It sounds nice to say “don’t be so rough, why isn’t there a middle ground,” but the reality is, when you need to move millions of people, some are going to resist.

We’ve moved millions of people. Add up all the stories of abuse you can find. What percentage is that? How many went well vs. how many went poorly?

The administration is doing the middle ground; the problem is the “reasonable people” are setting impossible standards. They have expectations that cannot be met. The reasonable people are completely unreasonable.

“Icky” was the perfect word.

He’s quick on his feet.

If Harris and Vance are the nominees, she won’t debate him.

rehajm చెప్పారు...

…to put it in weights and measures Maher appreciates- not a gram of criticism for the people running the Biden administration who invented new meanings for words that fame themselves permission to import over ten million illegals, sold to come here with the promise of free money through non-enforcement of corruption and fraud. Not a gram Bill Maher. Stick your middle ground somewhere…

rehajm చెప్పారు...

i’ll defer judgement but in this interchange doesn’t Maher looking to score with a gotcha laugh or two undermine his criticisms? Is this a serious issue or not? …and stop with the ‘let me give you some advice’ stuff. It signals you have no interest in offering advice…

rehajm చెప్పారు...

…the ridiculous criticism of the optics of ICE trying to round up murders rapists child molesters while well paid political actors physically try to stop them. Your instinctive empathy for any and every sort of protestor is a big problem that may end us all…

Not an oldster. చెప్పారు...

You're not representative of the majority anymore...
Keep pushing these clips and silly interviews during wartime to help ensure this false prophet is never elected to anything. You just don't see it, boomers...

rehajm చెప్పారు...

…here’s the middle ground: we all agree yes, the Biden administration created a human catastrophe by enticing and importing over ten million people, none of which were appropriately vetted for crimes of character, paid them with corruption and fraud of taxpayer entitlements, then tried to prevent their deportation while resisting attempts to stop the fraud. Okay, the compromise is we agree to cut off illegal funding, offer a plane ticket home, widespread cooperation at arresting the dangerous criminals and in exchange we agree to only imprison the leadership that made all this happen and agree to begin to have a conversation about a coherent immigration policy

Breezy చెప్పారు...

Sanctuary policies exacerbated these deportation actions. They were purposeful and by design of the left to generate the images. Vance should’ve reminded Maher of that, too.

rehajm చెప్పారు...

…i’ll also concede to forgive everyone who continues to fall for the manipulative bullshit from the left about why all these people are here if everyone who fell for it admits the error in their ways…

rehajm చెప్పారు...

…the image that most sickens me in not ICE agents doing their job, it’s the ICE agent being broadsided by that minivan the two women and their dog were riding in, interfering with police action…

You can get the whole interview, if you download the podcast through iTunes. I haven't listened, yet.

Humperdink చెప్పారు...

Notice Maher had no response after Vance explained how immigration enforcement can look icky. They have no answers.

I suppose Maher can be funny but he’s still a fraud.

Joe Bar చెప్పారు...

There are also a lot of clips on X, of course.

Mike (MJB Wolf) చెప్పారు...

Vance is excellent at this and he is going to run circles around the D nominee because he’s unafraid of tough questions but progressive candidates can only withstand baby questions and softball “interviews.”

Quayle చెప్పారు...

The revenue starving media only show the icky ones. Stories about all the self-deported people don’t drive media profit.

Mike (MJB Wolf) చెప్పారు...

Maher has broad but shallow knowledge of the subject.

Eva Marie చెప్పారు...

These Trumpies - especially Vance - think, process information a lot faster than the interviewers do. What looks to us like 1 second between question and answer is three or four minutes in their internal clock. In that stretch, they’ve analyzed the question, made sure nothing in their answer could be read as criticism of Trump, trimmed it down to something short and clever, and checked it for hidden traps. Only then do they finally say it. And that process takes one to two seconds in interviewer time.

Birches చెప్పారు...

If I were a person who was railing against Vance on Twitter every 5 seconds because of foreign policy, I'd stop and start cozying up to him so my people at least had a seat at the table. No one, not even Trump, can do what he does. Like Trump, however, he doesn't sound like a politician. He sounds pretty normal.

Iman చెప్పారు...

The fact that Maher believes his own bullshit has always been an impediment to taking him seriously. Besides the fact that he’s a comedian.

Tina Trent చెప్పారు...

Mahr is funny. But he will not ever make fun of himself. So asking others to appear moderate while being rigid ... Is like a bad speed date with a mouthy guy.

Ironically, it's better when he's stoned. Plus imagine Pence with a contact high. As good a political makeover as Cruz with a beard.

""You can get the whole interview, if you download the podcast through iTunes. I haven't listened, yet."

I'm surprised. I did not know that. Thanks.

Joe Bar చెప్పారు...

It will also, eventually appear on YouTube. Usually a couple of days later.

Why do democxraic communist leftists from on high demand we Defund Police and De-Fund immigrations and Customs?
They are all campaigning on it.
Because illegals are the bread and butter for the left's corrupt plans.
Not only do the democrats abuse US citizen tax payers by stealing our money and giving it to illegals - they are doing so they can cheat the vote and build a corrupt one party state.

Peachy+2 చెప్పారు...

The corrupt soros left funded Anti-ICE groups to illegally harass ICE in the streets.
Then the Left use it and whine endlessly after someone gets hurt.
F the left.

I have nothing against the soon-to-be-deported Haitians whom I falsely accused of eating pets. If there had been a cleaner way to ingratiate myself with Republican primary voters, I would have done it. ~ JD Vance

Peachy+2 చెప్పారు...

There is actual evidence that some Haitians were eating wild life from the park.

Iman చెప్పారు...

Vance should’ve mentioned the numerous incidents of the fine, upstanding protestors/rioters throwing bricks, chunks of concrete, frozen bottles of water, rocks, etc. at ICE and other LEO’s.

Aggie చెప్పారు...

And of course, out of all those arrests, faithfully filmed by the nice activists in black, which ones are selected to be broadcast, put up on blogs, YouTube, etc? Hint: it's not always the calm, subdued, stately ones, where the illegal alien child predator cooperates.

Dude1394 చెప్పారు...

Almost EVERY event that Mahrer talks about is an event that
Occurs because of sanctuary cities. If the ice detainer was respected the vast majority of deportations would be peaceful transfers of a prisoner. And as usual Maher cites no specific event that can be discussed and explained. None. Just a generic, “you are too rough”. From YouTube clips made by people who do not believe anyone should be deported.

bagoh20 చెప్పారు...

It's the perennial liberal dishonesty, part delusion, part deception, that says a difficult thing is necessary, but should not be done within the narrow window of effective methods. It's a form of NIMBY. The big unstated thing is that the necessary deportations are being resisted by the left at every level, including violent obstruction. So, Bill, how exactly would this middle ground method of deportation work in the middle of a TDS epidemic? They are always vocal about what is wrong, but never have a workable better solution.

Saint Croix చెప్పారు...

There is actual evidence that some Haitians were eating wild life from the park.

Maybe, but that's not funny. Eating the dogs and eating the cats is funny.

Original Mike చెప్పారు...

"That nice person decided to enter illegally in spite of the laws against it, not to help out but for his own advantage. That's the reason for the deportation."

I disagree. The reason deportation is necessary is that democrats opened the border for THEIR advantage. This can not be allowed to stand or we will get more of it.

Original Mike చెప్పారు...

I wonder if Maher will live long enough for his conversion to be completed.

Original Mike చెప్పారు...

"Notice Maher had no response after Vance explained how immigration enforcement can look icky."

The whole point of the Minnesota-style "protests" is to make it as icky-looking as possible. I'm surprised Vance didn't mention this; he surely knows it.

hombre చెప్పారు...

Maher and my Portlandian son both make that argument. They know it’s bullshit as does everyone with a brain. ICE can’t even get out of HQ driveways without illegal resistance from paid Democrat protesters dutifully recorded for effect by Democrat media pimps.

Jamie చెప్పారు...

"The whole point of the Minnesota-style 'protests' is to make it as icky-looking as possible. I'm surprised Vance didn't mention this; he surely knows it."

I think it's because he also knew the audience. By not taking the conversation that way, he kept them receptive. Start saying, "Almost every objectionable incident has taken place because of the policies of 'sanctuary cities'" or "The point of the protestors' pushing the limits of 'protest' in Minnesota was to foment clashes with law enforcement that would make viral videos," and you lose that receptivity. That audience identified with the protestors - they think of themselves as the good, kind, tolerant people. By keeping the focus on the difficulties of law enforcement at scale, Vance didn't force them to confront what role they believe they would take in those situations. In short, he didn't accuse them of anything.

Jamie చెప్పారు...

I'm not saying he persuaded anyone. But at least he didn't back them into a corner. And I think it's impossible to argue that he didn't sound reasonable.
