"If the bare-chested, muscled mixed martial arts fighters of the U.F.C. match that President Trump hosted on Flag Day were the poster guys for MAGA’s image of masculinity..."

"... then the pregnant women of Trump world are one half of their feminine counterparts. Along with the sheath-clad, lip-filled, pageant-haired Mar-a-Lago set, they offer an image of idealized womanhood that gives literal shape to the pronatalist movement. 'It almost feels like a memo went out,' said Jill Filipovic, the host of the 'Week in Women' podcast. 'They have quite intentionally opted to present themselves as, "I am really pregnant, and this is what women were chosen to do," and they are happy to say that both with their looks and their mouths.' If in doubt, simply consider posts on X and Instagram last month from [Katie] Miller, who was then some nine months pregnant. 'In honor of Mother’s Day,' she wrote, 'a reminder that peak feminism is having babies. The most radical thing a woman can do is embrace her biological destiny.' Along with her words came a portrait taken from the side, in which Miller is shown wearing low-slung, unbuttoned jeans and a black sports bra, her dark hair cascading in waves down her back. Like the stretchy and black knit Milly dress with a tulip on the front worn by Usha Vance for a military mothers celebration at the White House, and the form-fitting gowns worn by Leavitt and Miller to the White House Correspondents’ dinner in April, the photograph placed Miller’s rounded stomach front and center, enshrining her pregnancy for all to see...."

The NYT fashion writer Vanessa Friedman inspects the fecund right-wing bodies in "The Politics and Power of the Pregnancy Image/Usha Vance, along with Katie Miller and Karoline Leavitt, shows how much is said by an expectant silhouette, without anyone saying a word" (NYT).

Here's how Katie induced Vanessa to propagate adjectives:

Ampersand చెప్పారు...

Contemporary motherhood is a minefield of cultural flashpoints. Many childless women seem to resent the new mothers. The decision to have a child is perceived by some as a betrayal of feminism, as an acceptance of subordination, as a waste of talents that could be used to pursue money and status. It's an affirmation of life. It is a recognition that we aren't the final generation. It expresses optimism about emotional commitment. It endorses heterosexual love. It is therefore antithetical to everything that the NYT supports.

Does the NYT see everything as a psyop?

I'm not a fan of MMA or photos of pregnant ladies, but it's pretty normal stuff without a sinister motive. MMA is immensely popular, and the fighters look like beast-men. Capable, professional women get pregnant, and continue to appear in public. It's normal.

Did the NYT do an exploration of why Progressive women are obese and have blue hair? Or why the Rachel Levine looked more like a Jack Benny character than an actual woman?

All year long, the Left has gotten to dictate what counts as national news, whether that's the Epstein files, the ICE killings, the re-emergence of old diseases, inflation, or the Iran War. It's only fair that now conservatives get to pick what is news.

@Breezy, consider the possibility that Althouse herself is a mean.girl, and that such is her main reason for reposting this piece of drivel. Really, if women were “chosen” to be the sex that carries babies to term, then they were chosen by a billion years of mammalian evolution.

Eva Marie చెప్పారు...

“That three such prominent women in the MAGA movement were pregnant at pretty much the same time was, indubitably, a coincidence.”
lolol “indubitably” This is the NYT signaling their fairness. They could have led with a conspiracy - but no, they are objective. This, indubitably, was a coincidence.
“Along with the sheath-clad, lip-filled, pageant-haired Mar-a-Lago set, they offer an image of idealized womanhood that gives literal shape to the pronatalist movement.”
OMG! It’s a two pronged attack: beautiful old Republican women and beautiful pregnant young Republican women.
There’s too much sex going on. Lefties attack from all sides and what are the Trumpies doing? Having sex like they can’t be bothered.
“They have quite intentionally opted to present themselves as, ‘I am really pregnant’”
Why aren’t these women hiding their pregnancies? Let’s face it, these are FAILED abortions. No one should be proud of failure.
“It’s a notable change from the wardrobe choices of former political spouses like Cherie Blair, who surprised Britain when she became pregnant when her husband, Tony Blair, was prime minister. (Their son Leo was born in 2000.) Her maternity style consisted primarily of tunics and other loosefitting attire. Ditto Jacqueline Kennedy, who, when she was carrying a child during her husband’s 1960 presidential campaign, wore Empire-waist dresses and trapeze-like shapes that sufficiently skimmed her pregnant body to leave most of its reality to the imagination.”
Yup, I told you!
More evidence: “the look is also a departure from the tradwife aesthetic that has … well, burgeoned with the MAGA movement and features more smock-like and demure pregnancy clothes.”
Hide those pregnancies, ladies!
“It’s really noticeable that the MAGA women are not hiding their pregnancy,” Lewis said. “There is pride in being pregnant and being fertile.” They are modeling the idea, she said, that “one of the ways women can hold power is by being mothers and leaning into the imagery of that.”
Deal with it.

Style writer Vanessa Friedman is such a vicious dimwit. When Mandami's commie, Jew-hating wife showed up to the Knicks final to plop her progressive butt into a $1000 seat looking like a deranged bag lady, Friedman praised her for her designer outfit's "sustainability" while failing to mention that the crudely pinned-together team shirts were bootlegs -- stolen from the Knicks' propritary brand.

"Duwaji chose a one-shouldered peplum top ... made from upcycled Knicks T-shirts in white, orange and blue, and she wore it with a full black skirt, orange pompom earrings and black lace-ups with ankle socks. But the top, which was a sort of downtown Les Miz-meets-D.I.Y.-meets-team spirit confection, was the point ... Not only was Duwaji modeling fandom for all to see, she was doing it while using her profile to shine a light on a mostly unknown young designer, give a nod to sustainability and underscore her own 20-something fashion cred."

Honest question for the feminists:

What is the purpose of feminism? What is the belief system behind it?

Is it your belief that women have a greatness and value of their own?

Or is it your belief that men are awesome, women, suck, and there "goodness" and "rightness" in the world are achieved by women doing exactly what men do? Thinking like men think?

Because if "being a women is great", then pregnancy, which women can do and men can't, should be pretty much the pinnacle of feminism.

But if being a woman sucks, and everything male is the ideal them "modern feminism" makes a lot more sense.

Jamie చెప్పారు...

Oh, please. Hollywood women - leftists all, at least publicly - have been wearing skin-tight maternity wear for years and years. To say absolutely nothing of the fact that Hollywood women, leftists all, have been botoxed and lip-filled and blow-dried and breast-enhanced and God knows what else to turn them into Barbie dolls for even longer - all the while being presented as the avatars of womanhood. Leftist womanhood, which they contrasted with right-wing womanhood, which they characterized as toothless, stringy-haired, and, you know, deplorable.

Now that Republican women, real ones, are in positions of power and influence, female beauty and the desire of women to look their best magically signals fascism, or something.

Men are, on average, bigger, stronger, and faster. They work harder, with longer hours and fewer breaks. Their group decision making is on average much more efficient, and better capable of considering long term.and National and international effects.

So, what do women bring to the table? One word: Motherhood. The ability to get pregnant, bring children into the world, and to nurture them while young.

"Freedom" to do what? Be just like men?

Because it's sure not about the freedom to not have to fuck on the 2nd date. Because that freedom requires slut-shaming.

Freedom to be a stay at home mom? No, everyone has to go out and work, because if you don't have two incomes, you can't have the standard required things, since their price was driven up by the two earner couples

Iran enslaves women, and the "feminists" seem to be pretty much all lining up with Iran and Islam.

So no, "freedom" isn't what "feminism" is about,
