That was probably the most eloquent speech Trump has ever given. However (and this is a difficult argument to give without going tl:dr), we are already in the midst of the AI/robotics Singularity and as Musk says: In the very near future you’ll be able to have whatever you want. Even the gurus of AI/robotics (Musk, Diamandis, Kurzweil, Andreessen, Wissner-Gross) are slowly reaching consensus with the left on the development of some sort of sovereign wealth distribution in the style of Alaska. Everybody, including Trump, is busy fighting the last war. Musk predicts 10X per annum GPD growth by 2030. Reality is changing faster than the human intellect can comprehend.

The left routinely lets the fox guard the henhouse --- they seek all allies and an advantage for the "change" mission. It's always a matter of degree for how much change and the type of change. Many Democrats have already broken away (i.e., Trump, Musk, Gabbard, Rogan, Vance, RFK Jr.), but now Fetterman, Carville, Maher, et al. openly accept being MAGA-adjacent.

Shouting Thomas .... The belief that Ford increased wages so that workers could afford his cars is a myth. The primary reason for the massive increase was the assembly line process being so grueling he couldn't keep workers at lower wages. Instead he made cars more affordable by reversing the usual "cost plus" pricing policy by driving his engineers and production staff to find ways to build cars at a price he determined would stimulate demand. Finally, the period in which Ford was pioneering mass automobile production and sales featured steady improvement in industrial wages and income as well as a significant inflation of the money supply due to gold strikes in Australia, South Africa, and the Yukon. All of those together made Ford's cars affordable to more and more consumers, even after he increased worker pay.

The money supply growth of the early 20th century does point to the possibility that if we do see exponential growth of GDP from AI and other technologies we might see a similar improvement in living standards, however.

Ford believed in treating his workers well, however his paternalism was resented. Ford followed Chrysler and GM UAW contacts when it came to wages, but fought a battle to prevent UAW from unionizing Ford plants.

The bitter battle to unionize Ford had more to do with Union bosses power than money and worker safety.

At least classically, Socialism was government control of the means of production, while communism, a division of socialism, was government ownership. Communism would never fade away, since the main driver for control of a communist state soon became perpetually increasing the power of the elites, in order to increase their perks, benefits, and power. Of controlling the government.it wasn’t that long before the elites in the Soviet government and their communist party started having their Black Sea dachas, chauffeured limousines, special stores, special schools, etc. And their leaders are going to give all that up, for the good of the party? Hardly.

Fascists, on the other hand, used carrot and stick to get the largest companies to do what they wanted. Absent too much government intervention, they had a relatively easy job of getting the trains to run on time, which turned out to be highly problematic for the communists.

When the GOP gets curb-stomped in the upcoming midterm elections, the GOP party in-fighting will begin in earnest. Trump will be a lame-duck and won’t have the power to primary his GOP opponents anymore. There will be GOP criticism of Trump’s Iran policy, his tariff policy, the massive corruption of his administration, his failed economic policy, the massive deficit, and much else.

It will be a circular firing squad and it will, along with the Democrats, keep the massive failures of the Trump administration and the GOP firmly in mind for the 2028 election and a new period in the wilderness for the GOP. Trump’s base is dying, literally and figuratively, and most MAGA supporters will acknowledge (at least privately) that Trump failed in many areas and ultimately didn’t make America great again in their eyes or usher in a new golden age as he promised only he could do.

For the Democrats to be successful, they need to focus on the pragmatic, not the ideological. Most Americans are not ideological and are tired of dogmatic politicians, even in these highly partisan times. Mamdani’s success is not because suddenly democratic socialism is popular, but because he focused on pragmatic solutions to clearly defined issues that people are facing. But what works in New York won’t work for Democrats elsewhere.

But Democrats will be successful across virtually every demographic by running on their pragmatism vs. GOP failed ideology. I suspect GOP incumbent support for Trump in the past will come to be a political liability. The other thing that will help Democrats is running on a positive message vs. the GOP dystopian narrative.

Ultimately, Trump is a cult of personality built on a narcissistic-codependent relationship with MAGA voters. It’s not something another politician can step into. And there isn’t any MAGA politician out there with the same rhetorical resonance and name recognition that Trump had. It’s important to remember that Trump attracted millions of voters that didn’t show up to vote when he wasn’t on the ballot. Those voters are up for grabs and are unlikely to vote again in the same numbers.

It may also be the case, despite the economy not being nearly as bad as the Great Depression, that the Trump era leaves a bad taste that lingers for a long time- decades even- as happened with Republicans after the Great Depression.

It’s important to remember that before Trump ran in 2016, the Republicans were facing a bleak electoral outlook. George W. Bush wondered if he would be the last Republican president elected in his lifetime. Demographics favored Democrats. That is still the case in presidential elections, particularly with younger voters who may hold unfavorable views of the GOP for a long time just as baby boomers did after Watergate.

"And although I think this is totally obvious and goes without saying, it’s still refreshing to hear someone like New York City DSA cochair Gustavo Gordillo be so honest about methods and goals:

We’re using the Democratic Party as a ballot-access vehicle, not because we share its goals,” Gordillo boldly stated. “We build our own organization, get elected under the Democratic label, caucus with Democrats when it’s useful, and push our own agenda from the inside.”

Here’s the kicker — the line that should have House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries losing sleep at night and/or wetting himself: “We see the Democratic establishment as an obstacle, not a home.”

As I said, this has been quite obvious for some time.

Also, the NY DSA is coming for Kathy Hochul, who is obviously not radical enough.]"

I used to work with (mostly) guys from all different nationalities. One project, we had 53 nations represented. Interestingly, Norwegians and Brits really seem to like working overseas. Once you get to know them, you find out why. With the tax laws at the time, if you stayed out of country for more than half the year, your income tax became extremely low, maybe even zero. But working overseas projects, which pay nice, fat, away-from-home salaries, this means that you would be taxed over 60%, maybe higher, if I recall correctly. So they had very strong incentives to count those days out-of-country. When times were busy and their services were in demand, it could even determine which projects they decided to work on. And if their away times were coming up short, some of them would plan extensive vacations in inexpensive places like Panama or Costa Rica. Effectively, they could save a lot of money by fishing and drinking beer.

Of course, the USA taxes you wherever you make your money. It makes a lot of people think twice before getting a green card (I've had colleagues turn them down, when they find out this unhappy fact). Sometimes if I took an assignment in a real sh*thole, they would gross up your pay to cover the tax impact of your project bonus pay.

"Democrat pragmatism" - that's quite a turn of phrase!

I suppose it is "pragmatic" - for the elected officials anyway - to propose untenable, unsustainable bandaids of free stuff to get voters to elect you. Just as it's "pragmatic" to ensure that you have a sympathetic press that will present the current economy as Depression-like even though in moments of inexplicable candor, such as IEE's above, they admit that it's nowhere close, in order to *stay* elected.

And parse this: "It’s important to remember that before Trump ran in 2016, the Republicans were facing a bleak electoral outlook." Closest I can get to deriving the "importance" of this observation is that IEE, like Emanuel, believes that demographics is destiny - so hey, nothing new there; identitarians don't tend to come up with new insights.

Very reminiscent of Nancy Grace's encounter with the tranny when the creature asked Grace in the femmiest tone to denounce her beliefs about mutilating children, and when she declined the dude in a dress started threatening her in a voice that sounded like Bubba Smith. "...Just curious, how does a party expel a group of people that has invaded it without proper vetting and permission?..."

It seems inconceivable to me that the party brain trust could not see the process playing out. Candidates must register with the party, and then must register to run in the election. How is it possible this slipped below the party radar?

I can see how it slipped beneath the Democrat voter's radar. Nobody bothers to vote in primaries. It's a huge unregistered flaw in the process, and it's resulted in a bunch of Democrats running as Republicans, getting elected, and behaving as RINOs. Some of them don't even bother to pretend.

And while this farce has been playing out, the same tactic has been used against Progressives, only more out in the open. You won't get me to believe they were somehow unaware. The Democrat party is the party of obedience. It seems to me that the party leadership is okay with it, but don't want to alienate the squares. Not yet, anyway. Give it a few more voting cycles, I bet that's what they're thinking. They'll be voting for Socialists forever, as long as we call them Democrats, and promise not to be Republican.

Original Mike చెప్పారు...

The party that pushed Hillary aside, that pushed Bernie aside, that pushed Joe aside, is fully capable of shutting down these Communist small fries. If they don't, it isn't because they can't; it's because they choose not to.

So here is IEEE's pitch for Democrats earlier in this thread. Quote: So apart from Universal healthcare, affordable education, universal childcare, better public schools, improved public transport, stronger environmental investment, fairer taxation, higher wages, stronger workers’ rights, paid family leave, paid sick leave, affordable housing, lower prescription costs, better infrastructure, universal broadband, reduced inequality, stronger safety nets, better mental health support, lower homelessness, less medical bankruptcy, improved social mobility, stronger consumer protections, and more investment in long-term public good …. Why would socialism be attractive to Americans?
/ Close quote. Notice how he does not say how this is going to be paid for. Notice how it's all "Free stuff gimme dat." Notice that Trump said the exact same thing: Communism is super popular that first year. All that free stuff! What happens next? Well, as we all know, it's always the fault of those capitalist running dogs when utopia as promised by leftists never gets here. So we just have to start shooting the sabateurs, right? Maybe take a few more of those obstacles like freedoms out of the way.... give Dear Leader a few more powers. Just like Papa Stalin!

Reading what MadTownGuy quoted at 4:41pm, I wonder:

Can the Democratic Party sue to have a candidate removed from the Democratic line on the ballot, if the candidate openly states that he or she is not a Democrat and despises what the Democrats stand for? Even if they won the nomination by winning a primary, isn't that prima facie evidence that they won the primary under false pretenses, that they shouldn't even have been allowed on the primary ballot?

Will the national or state leaders of the Democrats do this, or are they lying when they say they aren't just sneakier Socialists/Communists themselves? And will they win the lawsuits? That may depend on whether any of the DSAs made their statements about just using the Democrats before or after they were put on the primary ballots. If before, then the 'mainstream' Democrats should have sued to keep them off the primary ballots.
