"Smith [College], one of the nation’s largest women’s schools with about 2,500 students, has been admitting transgender students since 2015, along with several other top women’s colleges. The issue became a lightning rod at women’s colleges after a transgender applicant was denied acceptance to Smith in 2013 because her gender identity did not match her financial aid forms. Since then, most women’s colleges updated their admissions policies to welcome transgender applicants. One notable exception has been Sweet Briar College in central Virginia, which does not admit transgender students and helps students in transition transfer to another college...."

"The Trump administration is investigating Smith College over admitting transgender students" (NYT).
These schools became incapable of freely choosing their own policy after "The issue became a lightning rod" in 2013. If this Trump investigation ends up forcing Smith to exclude transgender women, it will only be forced to do what it originally wanted to do. Obviously, there's a big difference between being forced by social and political pressure and being forced by the government. It's not as though the inclusion of transgender women was required by the government... not that it didn't try. It did. In the Biden years.

We no longer have institutional discrimination. We replaced it with institutional delusion and its companion deception.
College: where you go learn things that are not true.
Homos or sims? The latter are males. Equivocation ("=") and Inclusion is misogynistic.
If you allow "transwomen" into "Women-Only" spaces then yes you are violating the privacy of actual women. Admitting trans-anything into colleges for academic study is benign. At least so long as you have "anysex" bathrooms to use. While my hunch is that the transmania of the 20teens is subsiding quickly, we still will have such minutiae to debate.
Social cohesion is greatly helped by big doses of Mind Yer Own Business and Live and Let Live, liberally applied.

Our culture is soaked through with deception. It is another sign of our sad transition from high- to a low-trust society. Even McD is giving up on self-serve soda.
There was never any slope so slippery as one where you can demand people actively accept your lie, and punish them if they don't. After that, what possible endpoint could logic demand? You know what an institution of learning becomes under that system, right?
This one will be easy to predict. Schools will want to do the opposite of whatever Trump says he wants.
Smith is one of four co-located colleges in western MA. UMass and Amherst welcome both men and women. (Mount Holyoke is the fourth - used to be women only, not sure what it is now.). There are buses between the four campuses. People can take courses wherever they like. Men can take classes at Smith and participate in a variety of social events, but they shouldn’t be allowed to matriculate, live in the dorms with women, play on the sports teams, win academic awards meant for women, etc. This is insane and I’m glad Smith is being challenged on this.
I’d guess the lesbian population is also glad for the challenge, for the most part. Who knows though.
Women being women, many of these colleges would vote to allow transgender students. Including using their bathrooms and occasionally raping one of them.
And that should be that, it seems to me. Why should individual women's colleges have to accept someone else's definition of what it means to be a woman if they don't want to?
All's fair in lust and abortion progressed as a liberal woke of art with Biden, Obama, Clinton et al.
It's also antithetical to DEIsm, which is an umbrella incorporation of bloc ideologies. it seems liberals are stuck between a fetus and a baby... uh, "burden" h/t Obama. The Choice is clear: abort and progress no more.
Women being women, they'd emulate how birds will burn to death in grass fires while protecting their non-flying chicks under their wings.
Female wiring = compassion and support for the vulnerable (i.e., transgendered people), even despite strong evidence of wolves in sheep's clothing.
I fear that only older women (such as Catholic nuns) could persuade young women otherwise.
If schools were forced to violate their fundamental precepts, then they should be given support in undoing that. If they choose to continue to include trans, then they should not be forced to disallow. The women at the school are free to chose a school more protective of female spaces. This is the true freedom position.
As long as the path each school chooses is public, and students can choose to not attend that school, I do not see a problem.
It's my understanding that when Hegseth saw Klinger in M*A*S*H, the thought that Klinger was bucking for a promotion, and steam came out of his ears.
I had a high school friend that went to Smith and I spent a few nights on campus. My John Tomas was in the bathrooms and the shower rooms along with the matriculated. There was accommodation. I think I was more uncomfortable…
“ College: where you go learn things that are not true.”
A bit too broad, only a few departments are truly hopeless and you have to sit through some required dei but 97% is the same in professional and science. I would guess you are through with the nuttiness by your 3 ed semester unless you seek it, but you have to shut your mouth if you are conservative. And if male, don’t date the girls on campus.
"... it will only be forced to do what it originally wanted to do."
It is very far from evident that a college may be said to want to do anything. Every institution exists for a stated reason. But every institution is operated by human beings, and the second-largest problem of every institution -- after securing funding -- is keeping those humans from deploying its resources in support of their own goals, which may differ drastically from the ostensible mission..
You can be fairly certain that Smith's charter contains some high-minded aspirations to improve the the lives of young women. Yet here they are, admitting people who shave. Whose idea was that?
Who is harmed by this policy? It's a private college and presumably all their students are aware of and approve of the policy. It was wrong of Biden to try to force single-sex schools to admit transgender students. This administration's goal is equally fucked. How about some common sense and free choice?
You do have to wonder. Are any of these Commie assholes really in any perplexity about what the word "woman" means? Of course not. Yet they strenuously pretend to be. Do they actually imagine that their ability to distinguish the sexes is a moral failing? One they must disguise? It seems unlikely. Rather, it is the dynamic Orwell discussed, of knowing what you must not even think about, and carefully not thinking about it.

Yes, but there's probably been enough turnover that now the people in charge DO want to let in "chicks with dicks"
It's Four Colleges now? Hampshire College -- not yet gone, but already forgotten.
I thought Sweet Briar closed (2015), but it looks like they rallied and are still in business. They didn't even change the school's cloying name.
Smith has a stupid policy but is it really the federal government's business? They are liable for any damage the trans women do, and shouldn't that be enough to minimize the damage?
Trans is a spectrum disorder. Homos are believed to transition near viability at six weeks. Sims represent an unstable alternative progression with elevated probability of entertaining abortive ideation of selfie and others.
You know at first I was thinking this story was being dangled in search of a kind of 'Fresh Meat' conservative outrage response, but the more I think about it, there's something distinctly 'off' about this meat being dangled. Maybe it's more like something left behind on the mud flats as the tide recedes. It's there, yes, but so is the mud and all the other biological debris. Let's see what the incoming tide brings, and we'll forget all about those Smithies.
Lose the cock and the balls, then you can matriculate to Smith- should be the policy. Shows committment to a true change in gender.
@Lazarus, yes, Sweet Briar rose from the dead. Gotta love a school whose athletic colors are lime green and pink, whose team name is the Vixens, and which competes intercollegiately in Equestrian sports.
Women should have a right to safe spaces in dormitories, in rest rooms, and in locker rooms and showers. Even lefty women would agree, except that it’s us stinky Republicans who are saying it.
Even lefty women would agree, except they can't be heard saying it.
In the spirit of "bring back our girls", let rhem be girls.
The sims phenomenon is correlated with homophobic angst.
Sweet Briar almost folded a few years ago. In the 70s, when a neighbor went on a prospective student tour, they asked if she would be bringing her horse.
Can we cut the crap? There is no such thing as transgenderism; there is only men wearing dresses and women cutting their hair short
