Although I'm a Michigander, I have family in Los Angeles and have spent a lot of time there. I donated to Spencer Pratt's campaign. It's a long shot, but I'm hoping he can at least make it to the runoff in November.
Whoever is running his media campaign is killing it!
Okay, I have watched all the SNL-UK episodes so far (they're on Peacock), and I have to say I like it. There are some parts that fall flat, true. But I think they have recaptured some of the joy of the early days of SNL-US.
First off, the Keir Starmer sketch in the first ep that so many people panned: at least they were doing a sketch making fun of the Labour leader. In Britain, unlike here, the Left eats its own. Probably the best way to make all the Lefties hate you is to become their leader. The same guy has played Starmer in some other sketches, and he's getting better at it.
They also do a lot of sketches based on UK-specific stuff. Music-hall type songs, takeoffs on old BBC shows, etc. This reminds me of how OG SNL was really about New York, and even fairly recently some of their best work makes fun of NYC-specific things: ads for local businesses, weird UHF shows, and the like.
They are also not afraid to just be silly. A running gag in Weekend Update has one anchor displaying really detailed knowledge of Korean boy-band BTS, then looking embarrassed when he realizes he just talked about them for a full minute. They did a fun sketch with Charles and Camilla flying home from their Trump visit, only to find their air crew consisted of leaders of the various Labour factions, trying and failing to stage coups. Really the sole purpose of the sketch was for the cast members to show off their impressions of Chuck, Cam, Starmer, Angela Rayner, and the rest.
And the musical acts have been good. A mix of up-and-comers and up-and-cames.
If you can only watch one SNL this weekend, watch SNL-UK. CC, JSM
Trying to get through the NYT's "Interview" aka "Debate" with Tucker Carlons. So far, just endless coments/Questions along the lines of "Why are you asking these questions?" and "Do you care about Jewish feelings?" and "Why are people calling you an antisemite?".

We’ve moved on from the equally disastrous Project Freedom. The Strait is still closed, the regime hasn’t changed, Iran still has its “nuclear dust” and Iran has not surrendered. Iran has a strait, while Trump has no more cards to play.
Original Mike, yes KBJ has written at least one Majority opinion per Ballotpedia (First majority opinion in Delaware v. Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, concerning escheatment). My understanding is that the Chief typically writes the opinion when he is in the majority but can defer the task to a Justice of his choice. If the Chief is not in the majority then the most senior Justice writes it.
This makes no sense. Why would you *pause* Project Freedom?
Based on the request of Pakistan and other Countries, the tremendous Military Success that we have had during the Campaign against the Country of Iran and, additionally, the fact that Great Progress has been made toward a Complete and Final Agreement with Representatives of Iran, we have mutually agreed that, while the Blockade will remain in full force and effect, Project Freedom (The Movement of Ships through the Strait of Hormuz) will be paused for a short period of time to see whether or not the Agreement can be finalized and signed. President DONALD J. TRUMP.
This should placate everyone, we know how good Americans are at weighing counterfactuals when it comes to allocating blame for inflationary episodes…
"Everybody needs to think about it this way. If Iran had a nuclear weapon and decided to close the straits and make our gas prices $9.00 a gallon or $8.00 a gallon we wouldn't be able to do anything about it because they have a nuclear weapon. ~ Marco Rubio NY Post
The “If” in the statement is doing all the heavy lifting here, and if memory serves correctly, Iran’s nuclear capabilities have been *obliterated*.
I heard what seemed like an interesting suggestion re: the Strait of Horcooze and insurers hesitancy on covering damage to ships caused by Iran. It was stated that there’s approximately $100B of Iranian money confiscated and held due to violations of sanctions. If true, why not earmark and use that to cover damage, should it occur?
They sure are---record amounts of oil and refined products left U.S. shores in the last week, and we'll likely set another record this week. U.S. gasoline inventories are already at multi-year seasonal lows- which means prices will face even more upward pressure.
"What's happening is people are learning to buy oil from the United States. They're making the trip. Oil is at $102. That's a very small price to pay for getting rid of a nuclear weapon from people that are really mentally deranged." ~ Donald Trump
ALERT: #GasPrices appear to be rising to $4.19/gal in #SouthCarolina today. This is a price cycle to an elevated amount due to the Iran situation pushing oil prices higher. https://x.com/GasBuddyGuy
Trump explained the move to pause Project Freedom as a response to a request from Pakistan and other countries, in order to leave room for negotiations between Washington and Tehran.
A theocracy like Iran can suppress economic pain. In a democracy, deliberately gambling away economic stability eventually means paying a political price.
This only makes this already funny Taibbi headline in The Free Press even more hilarious.

"Plaintiff acknowledges, however, that the contents of the Book cannot support a literal reading, stating that the "[Jhe Book contains no evidence of any financial transaction, payment, contract, or quid pro quo involving Plaintiff." (Opp. at 4.) In this context, "Owned" and "Bought" naturally read as attention-grabbing rhetoric used to signify Higgin's opinions and the Book's conclusions. Aside from the scattered words and phrases discussed below, Plaintiff does not dispute the accuracy of the vast majority of the Book's factual content that informs these views or point to language suggesting the opinions are based on facts other than those disclosed in the book. See Levin v. McPhee, 119 F.3d 189, 197 (2d Cir. 1997) (noting that "hypothesis or conjecture... may yet be actionable if they imply that the speaker's opinion is based on the speaker's knowledge of facts that are not disclosed to the reader"). Plaintiff may not like Higgins's subjective conclusions, or agree with their accuracy, but that does not make them actionable defamation."
Shoutout to Paramount Skydance for looking at this joke of a reactionary rag (The Free Press) and somehow thinking it was worth over a hundred million bucks and good enough to fold into CBS News.
The way I see it the left is pretending that we have no real adversaries and no need to respond to any action by anyone. Iran is racing to the bomb so Trump carries out Operation Midnight Hammer - that's reality. But on the left: Trump, the militarist, decides to play with his military toys, what a racist. Iran threatens the whole Middle East but especially Israel with seven proxies armed by Iran, paid by Iran so Trump and Israel carry out Epic Fury which destroys Iran's regular armed forces and civilian leadership as well as most of the weapons in the hands of proxies. The left says that the US had no real reason for attacking Iran so that the economic pain from the attack is a consequence of Trump's random decision making process. Iran's IRGC which cannot surrender because the Iranian citizens would destroy it opens a new phase of the conflict by using drones and fast boats to close Hormuz hoping to hold out till the Dems come to their rescue after the mid-terms. The IRGC murdered 35,000 protestors, hates gays, tramples on women's rights, closed an international waterway, is opposed by the other Gulf states and is anti-semitic. But the Dems aren't ashamed to take its side in the conflict. But in Dem thought, the IRGC is not a real adversary. The elected US President is the real adversary, the only, real adversary. That's what 8 years of only hearing half of any story has done to a large section of the US public and their Dem leaders. They're all ready to be violent but only against elected Americans belonging to the other party.
All this - Iranian and Dem readiness to destroy - has been in existence for sometime but hidden below various pretences. Now we live in reality. We see it; some of us contest it. Others hope for a victorious barbarism.
This does not go nearly far enough in describing the plight of women under the theocratic rule of the mad mullahs. If you think beating a woman because some wisps of her hair has worked its way out from under your hijab is wrong, then you should stand with President Trump and against the remnants of the government of Iran. You doubt this happens? Go read the story of young Mahsa Amini.
If you think that a female rape survivor should not be executed because, in the opinion of her male judge, she should have fought her rapist harder, then you should stand with President Trump against the remnants of the Iranian theocracy. Do you mistakenly think this didn’t happen? Go look up Atefeh Sahaaleh in Wikipedia. OTOH, if you were an Iranian womsn and you defend too vigorously from a rapist, they will also hang you, as Iranian woman Reyhaneh Jabbari fatally discovered.
If you think women should not be stoned to death on the unsupported testimony of her husband that she is an adulteress, then you should stand with President Trump against the Iranian theocrats.
As usual, it’s not American feminists who react to these stories with horror and an urge to right wrongs. It’s Republican men with our toxic masculinity and our sense of decency.

Wow, I go to bed, wake up, and find an attack on my BSG.
I watched both - I was in the core demographic (middle school boys) when OG BSG came out. They're apples and oranges. OG BSG is an incredible example of what the old 3-network system could do. And one of the swan songs of the Greatest Generation creatives. Like having a Roger Moore Bond movie in your house. But like Moore's Bond, OG BSG was perhaps a bit simplistic. That's ok, that's what network TV was for. I did like that the basic plot line was essentially a Cold War Pearl Harbor. Not just the pilot, but every episode's opening credits, showed Cylon fighters blowing up a big "PEACE" display. Yeah, in a few years the same network would do The Day After, but for a little while they actually paid attention to the sentiments of the American majority. Who knows - maybe it helped get Reagan elected.
BSG 2004, in a world of more narrowcasted cable (but not quite in the streaming era), was lower budget, using CGI instead of Dykstra models. And of course the off-the-shelf props: guns, early flatscreen monitors, Herman Miller chairs (I noticed that yesterday: who TF puts a chair on casters on a ship!?). And the writing was more (ducks because I'm about to say) nuanced. I think the show captured the GWOT fear that terrorism could erupt anywhere, anytime, from anyone. And considering that Ron Moore just had 4 years of NROTC then got cut loose in the drawdown, it captured a lot of the naval mindset. And it got into some of the moral quandaries of which rules do you break when you are trying to defend a civilization that depends on those same rules. I don't come away from a BSG 2004 ep feeling I've just been in a Code Pink struggle session.
I do think it could have done without the Final Five mythology. The writers and actors were skilled enough that if they needed novelty in the later seasons, you could just keep introducing moral dilemmas. Like for instance the Gaeta/Zarek revolt.
Short version: I would not dismiss BSG 2004. CC, JSM
I want a bit more than a whistleblower evidence, mostly because progressives abuse such systems. However, I offer the comparison of former Democrat Rep Tulsi Gabbard as DNI vs Adam Schiff. Both were available to Hillary Clinton to appoint.
I never, until this latest war, realized how in-the-tank Zerohedge was, but they just print Trump's words as if they carry some actual weight of truth.
I can't believe I voted for him three times, on the days when I am kinder to myself about that, I tell myself that he has gone senile, but I don't believe it, really. When he said "no more endless wars" what he meant was that by fighting brutally enough, taking away "woke" restrictions like reviewing targets before launching missile, for example, the girls school was on Pentagon maps as a girls school, but Hegseth removed the requirement to check targets spit out by AI. He thought that Iran would be over in four days. It's an old delusion, people thought that WWI would be over by Christmas, for example.
Seeing people like Tiabbi who is basically a 1990-2000s Democrat and a Hillary fangirl like Bari Weiss described as 'reactionary' is an indication either the writer doesn't actually believe a word of it, or one of how 'fundamentally transformed' Democrats are after Obama.
Texas man wounded after allegedly shooting at Secret Service near Washington Monument
"A man from Texas was wounded in a shooting involving U.S. Secret Service officers, after he allegedly shot at them near the Washington Monument on Monday afternoon, according to the agency’s deputy director.
The suspect was later identified as Michael Marx, 45, of Texas, D.C. police told WTOP Tuesday.
According to the U.S. Secret Service, the shooting happened at 15th Street and Independence Avenue SW in D.C., near the Sidney R. Yates building where the Forest Service is headquartered.
A child, described only as a juvenile, was also struck by a bullet during the exchange of gunfire, Secret Service Deputy Director Matthew Quinn said during a news conference.
Quinn said plainclothes Secret Service officers noticed a person who appeared to have a firearm while patrolling around the outer perimeter of the White House complex around 3:30 p.m.
They alerted uniformed Secret Service officers who attempted to approach the man, later identified as Marx.
“Upon making contact, that individual fled briefly on foot, withdrew a firearm and fired in the direction of our agents and officers. They returned fire and engaged,” Quinn said.
Marx was hospitalized after being shot multiple times; his condition has not been released."

This week, Rubio described the offensive phase of the Iran war as “over”. Trump has announced that he will pause his "Project Freedom" to guide ships through the Strait of Hormuz, despite announcing it just days earlier. Trump wants out of a misconceived conflict without losing face. This has happened so often since 1945 that it should bring about a questioning of the mental habits, the historical reference points, that have guided US diplomacy since then. It won’t.
It appears at this point Trump is willing to accept just about any agreement with Iran so he can back out of this disaster as soon as possible and declare victory. A lot of Americans on the left and right remember the follies of Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan. They just aren’t being listened to by the Trump administration.

Greene beats Tunney in Michigan keping (sic) majority in very purple state
Purple you say? I recall Michigan being part of the "Blue Wall" for many decades since the end of the Reagan Administration, and a win in this Democrat district is a hold for the party, not a gain.
“My understanding is that the Chief typically writes the opinion when he is in the majority but can defer the task to a Justice of his choice. If the Chief is not in the majority then the most senior Justice writes it.”
Think of it this way, the Justices are numbered from 1-9, by seniority, with the exception of CJ Roberts, who is #1. The longest serving Justice, considered the most Senior, is #2 (Thomas), second most Senior (Alito) is #3, etc.
After Oral Arguments, the Justices meet in Conference, and, essentially, vote preliminarily. Then, the lowest number Justice on each side gets to appoint the Justice who gets to write the majority Opinion and primary Dissent. Thus, the Chief gets to assign the writing of the opinion or dissent he is on. When he is on the opposite side with Justice Thomas, Thomas gets to assign his side, etc.
Which can be a problem. CJ Roberts likes narrow, technical, decisions. J Thomas likes to write with a broad brush. Which apparently has resulted in Roberts switching sides just to keep Thomas from writing an important decision. Also factoring in, the Chief likes to spread the writing around somewhat equitably. But both Thomas and Alito are getting old, so pass on writing opinions, at times. So, the other three conservative Justices seem to write more opinions than Roberts, Thomas, and Alito. J Jackson being the junior Justice, essentially gets the shit detail. But being mostly in the minority, gets to write more Dissents.
In practice, it’s a bit more complex. For example, there are Concurrences, where Justices sign onto the main opinion, but then go off in one direction or another. Other Justices can then sign onto a Concurrence. And sometimes they can sound almost like Dissents.
At least, after nearing a quarter millennium of refinement, it’s easier to determine what a case means. In the early cases, often, it seems, that several would be writing opinions, and you had to kinda interpolate between them.
“ TRUMP HINTS THAT THE US MAY ARM THE IRANIAN PEOPLE”
Isn’t really a new thing. The US tried to do it through the Kurds (since we already had supply routes to them), but the Kurds kept the weapons. They see the US as a fair weather friend, so take our weapons when offered, then expect to be ignored, or maybe even be sold out, when convenient for us. The Kurds want essentially one thing - autonomy. But aren’t getting it in the countries that they reside in (esp Turkey, Iraq, and Iran). Turkey is a NATO member, which ostensibly means that they are an ally. And have some of the biggest problems with the Kurds trying to break away. So, this tempers our ability to support the Kurds with weaponry, since some of the weapons we shipped to the Iraqi Kurds, and now the Iranian Kurds, end up being used against Turkey, our ostensible ally. Thus, no surprise that the Kurds kept a lot of the weapons that we were trying to ship to the Iranian people.
I think that Michigan is moving back right. Hence why they were one of the states in 2020 that the Dems (in Detroit) had to massively cheat in to win. Similar to PA. Contrast with GA, another state they had to massively cheat in, in 2020, to win, that, like much of the South, was solid Dem for better than a century, before moving right.
“Greene beats Tunney in Michigan keping majority in very purple state, Republicans ran with their typical playbook of bending the knee to Trump and putting corporations over working people, and it failed—miserably. With gas prices spiking and grocery bills up, it’s clear that voters are fed up with Trump and Republicans’ cost-raising agenda. More to be revealed.”
In your wet dreams.
The Dems lost the working class under Reagan. Now it is the billionaires, crooks, and the poor against most everyone else. Plus a lot of the self appointed elites, esp those with multiple college degrees who work for someone else (doctors moved left, after many lost their independence with ObamaCare).
It’s not been the workers versus the big corporations for a long time now. The working class is now predominantly Republican, while to tops of the biggest companies now support the Democrats.
“”The White House shouldn't be able to direct the attorney general to go around prosecuting. The idea is that the attorney general is the people's lawyer. It's not the president's consigliere,' he said.””
“He spoke of the president who 'starts using that to go after their political enemies or reward their friends.'"
Says the guy whose AG was his avowed wingman. And the guy whose VP, once he became President, had his AG Indict his predecessor twice for bogus crimes. Both plots to destroy his main opponent were hatched in the WH working closely with elements under his AG (DOJ, FBI). Plus illegally prosecuting thousands of his most most vociferous critics with his bogus J6 prosecutions.

TRUMP.
The choice of armaments worked in the expanse but not on this show
Who said that surrender is even a thing in modern warfare?
The expanse was probably the most accurate depiction of soace warfare (at least the first few seasons)
Rubio's argument is spot on.

@Iman - Yes, that's a great idea. Iran pays for the damage it causes.

A decision was made to pause it until it could be conducted with lower risk.
The better question: Whose side is Inga on?

"The better question: Whose side is Inga on?"
Not Trump's. And Trump is on America's side.
Islam and leftism go hand in hand
36 hours of failure.
The better question: Whose side is Inga on?
There's no question. It's obvious. The same as the rest of the fifth-column left.
This only makes this already funny Taibbi headline in The Free Press even more hilarious.
Matt Taibbi: To Protect Free Speech, I’m Suing the Man Who Defamed Me ~ Free Press
You'd think that the guy whose most famous line ("vampire squid") was rhetorical would recognize how rhetorical statements work, but alas...

You see clearly, wildswan.
tramples on women's rights

A year ago, progressive Jews were arguing that the Democrats and the Republicans both had antisemitic factions in response to complaints about left-antisemitism. Now, Tucker, Fuentes and Candace have all largely left the GOP because the Republican establishment shunned them, while the Democrats are running Senate candidates with Nazi tattoos.

Inevitably, the RINOs will take the wrong lesson from tonight's brutal discipline. They will think that because they personally offended Trump, they got defeated. That’s not it. Trump is not our leader. He is our avatar. You dummies screwed with the base, and the base, not Donald Trump, made you pay.
You won’t listen to me, which is OK. You don’t want it to be true, but there’s no free pass once Donald Trump leaves the scene. The same energy and anger will still there. And you can either help us channel it in a positive direction, or have it channeled at you. But there’s no more squish tolerance in the GOP.

The idea of Schiff as head of CIA makes my skin crawl. Actually, any idea of him makes my skin crawl.

Heh. "Marx," but not a marksman.
Sorry Tim. But the ship of your credibility has sailed. Over the horizon. It's taking on water. Your rudder's busted.
You mean to say that Zero Hedge is printing the presidents actual words? Without the editorial snark that guides your opinions? No wonder you're mad.

"All this - Iranian and Dem readiness to destroy - has been in existence for sometime but hidden below various pretences."

China's economy hit by Iran war on 5 fronts per CSIS:
- Energy crisis: 39% gasoline & 42% LNG price spikes; 70+ vessels stuck in Strait of Hormuz.
- Export slump: Key 2025 GDP driver; IMF downgrades major markets.
- Supply chain chaos: Pesticides +46%, sulfuric acid +72%, plastics +40%; more factories losing money.
- Chip production choke: Helium imports (half from Qatar) disrupted.
- Middle East investments threatened: Kuwait port hit; $400B Iran deals now at risk.

TRUMP HINTS THAT THE US MAY ARM THE IRANIAN PEOPLE
Greene beats Tunney in Michigan keping (sic) majority in very purple state
Purple you say?
