Closer to a swamp ape. People are always underestimating them. As for your bear theory, if they co-evolved with bears, they would be OK. One of the strongest pieces of evidence that humans evolved in Africa, despite some recent theories, is that Africa is the only place where the megafauna survived contact with humans. For instance, horses evolved in the American plains, zebras in Africa, you can't ride a zebra, you can't even lasso one.
The man behind the 1958 Humboldt County Bigfoot prank was a logging company owner named Ray L. Wallace.
Los Angeles Times While Wallace denied it while he was alive, his children admitted to the hoax in December 2002 shortly after his death.
The Seattle Times +2 Details of the Prank The Location: A remote logging site in Bluff Creek, located within Humboldt County, Northern California. The Setup: In August 1958, Wallace had a friend carve a pair of 16-inch-long wooden feet out of alder wood. Wallace and his brother Wilbur wore the wooden feet to stomp giant tracks around their company's heavy logging equipment. The Sensation: A bulldozer operator named Jerry Crew discovered the tracks and brought a plaster cast of them to the local Humboldt Times newspaper. The paper printed a front-page story on the prints and coined the term "Bigfoot," officially launching the modern global phenomenon. The Motivation: His family noted that Wallace was a lifelong, obsessive prankster who "did it just for the joke" and never expected it to take on such a massive life of its own.

I don't think bigfoot exists. A bear would have eaten it where it would be living.
People underestimate bears constantly.
On the other hand there are many square miles on this planet's surface where no human has ever set foot.
Poor immitation. Sasquatch doesn’t wear clothes.
