Meade: "Super bloggable, no?" Me: "trying to find an inroad/the photo is overwhelming emotionally"

That's the text conversation here in Meadhouse after I send this to Meade:

The eagle — encrusted in gold and seemingly headless — launches into flight, away from us.

Let's see what the particular example of corruption this is — this, the worst example ever. There's never even ever been anything like this. Do you know what example this one is? There have been reactions of horror to so many things Trump has done, but "corruption" is a key hint, suggesting a money grab, and yes, you guessed right, didn't you?
President Trump’s Justice Department is using taxpayer money to create a $1.8 billion political slush fund. Ostensibly set up to compensate those who the department claims have “suffered weaponization and lawfare,” it will in fact reward loyalists willing to defy the law and commit violence on behalf of the president.
The fund’s existence is a story of political self-dealing. It is nominally the product of a flimsy personal lawsuit that Mr. Trump filed this year against the Internal Revenue Service, which he oversees, over the leaking of his tax returns during his first term. That lawsuit led to an absurd negotiation, in which the lawyers on one side worked for Mr. Trump the citizen and those on the other side worked for Mr. Trump the president.

Mike (MJB Wolf) કહ્યું...

Yes we guessed correctly. Irony alert though, because this is the first time The Narrative has admitted a thing like "sue & settle" exists. Yet it's been in use by the NGO-Left for decades. One of their favorite tools to extract government dollars for their pet causes, which are of course led by their friends who donate a substantial chunk back to the DNC or Arabella or whomever.

It's never been called (by corporate media) a kickback scheme, although that's what it was for the DNC. Let's see if the people who file claims also turn around and donate back to the RNC the way the other side did it. Because on its face it appears to be just what it is billed: a fund for people unfairly prosecuted to be made whole and get their legal debts paid.

If the Dems fight it, get ready to see some J6 ropeline grandmas vilified for wanting a couple bucks. That can only help MAGA. If the Dems fight it and win, it weakens or completely destroys sue and settle. CC, JSM

On a completely objective level, it’s an interesting legal question. Does a pardon (I assume most of the applicants will be pardonees) make the preceding legal process wrong? How do you show that a conviction or guilty plea qualifies as weaponized?

Closest thing I can think of is the Innocence Project, which, as messed up and political as it usually is, at least is based on a concept of actual innocence, ie didn’t do it at all, wasn’t even there, someone else confessed. Very few of the weaponization victims fit into that box. CC, JSM

Mike (MJB Wolf) કહ્યું...

There is a J6 class-action in process. Too bad we don't have decent media companies interested in telling the whole story. Pretty much SOP for the leftist lying media though.

Rob કહ્યું...

The propaganda continues.

Mike (MJB Wolf) કહ્યું...

For instance, perhaps an enterprising reporter could compare J6 with a random date during the months-long "mostly peaceful" riots of 2020, say August 25 for example. Simply tally how many fatalities, injuries and property damage from that date with J6 another singular date. And let's see which one was more violent and costly.

How does 8/25/2020 compare to 1/6/2021? Then given the factual differences (there must be some) let's see how the two dates in history have been covered by the professional reporting class. What narrative emerges out of that comparison?

victims of government abuse should have no recourse if they are right wing.

You are missing the point of the outrage. Althouse probably understands the anger but for some reason apparently thinks this is fine. This is a slush fund controlled by the DOJ (which is headed by Trump's former personal attorney).

No one is saying that those legitimately harmed by the government's actions shouldn't have recourse. The objection to this fund is the money is not appropriated by Congress, that the commission will be beholden to the President. The commissioners will serve at the pleasure of the president (and the Attorney General? That is not clear). Other than claiming that you were targeted by the Biden Administration, there are apparently no restrictions on who or why someone can apply for compensation.

There is also the small matter of the additional agreement that the Trump family or businesses are no longer subject to audit by the IRS.

Trump’s taxes were illegally leaked. The settlement for this was the creation of a fund. Which unlike Keepseagle, isn't taxpayer funds, it's funded by a settlement Trump could have kept for his own use.

There is legal precedent for such a Fund, most notably the “Keepseagle” case where the Obama Administration created a $760 million fund to redress various claims alleging racism against the federal government over a period of decades.

In Keepseagle, hundreds of millions of dollars remaining in the fund were distributed to non-profits and NGOs that never made claims, whereas any money remaining in The Anti-Weaponization Fund will revert to the federal government.

The Obama DOJ settled by putting $680 million from the judgment fund into a bank account for a single claims administrator to dole out. In Keepseagle the remaining money—which ended up being over $300 million—was distributed to the entities that had not even submitted claims.

Breezy કહ્યું...

Btw, that fund is not limited to J6 cases. Anyone who believes they were victimized by the Feds can apply for restitution. Case by case review and resolution. I’m not clear who/how that happens.

There has been no resolution or punishment in this. Lois Lerner of the irs went after the tea party. And now the 26 fbi informants at j6.

All these cases are just said to be minor indiscretions by low level people, procedure manuals are modified, and nothing happens for lawbreaking. So unless there is some repercussions for the government bureaucracy it will continue.

According to Reuters, "The alleged damages to Donald Trump from the IRS occurred between 2018 and 2020, when former IRS contractor Charles Littlejohn stole and leaked Trump's confidential tax return data to media outlets like The New York Times and ProPublica"

So Trump had no assurance he would be the President again when the damages occurred. He is allowed recourse like any other wronged party. Now compare this sue and settle with all the prior occurrences which did not attract your ire.

Clinton? BIG gains.
Obama? BIG gains; $8.1M house in the guarded ultra wealthy DC Kalorama neighborhood near Embassy Row; funding for the $850M "space turd" library in Chicago.

Biden's a special case, as he was a greased palm pay-to-play senator for years. So, compare his "Corn Pop" wealth prior to joining the senate and then after leaving it.

Trump (and his DOJ) settled the lawsuit primarily to avoid judicial scrutiny that was likely to dismiss or severely limit the case, while achieving key policy and protective goals through the settlement terms.

My initial impression on hearing this news a couple days ago was that this was part of some budget legislation.

However, the fact that this is being done as a unilateral move by the Trump DOJ makes the whole arrangement seem even more absurd and illegal. Congress is supposed to control the "purse" and the nation's finances. This is also being done by an acting attorney general, who was not even confirmed for his current position. It seems like there are dozens of different ways to invalidate this through litigation.

Democrats should also be nailing the Republicans on a daily basis over Trump's illegal slush fund, which I imagine will have added resonance given the current rate of inflation.

The fact that Trump needed to create this slush fund, really speaks to the weakness of the claims that he has against the previous administration.

This just shows how smart the Liberal/Left is. The hate the idea of Trump doing what they always do - using Public money to help their friends. So they have to clothe the objection in "We're concerned about public corruption!". Of course, X number of rubes and boobs will buy it. They always do.

Whats astounding about trump is how ethically clean he is. They've been attacking him, investigating him, and practicing Lawfare against him for 10 years, and have come up with nothing significant.

We only found out about Epstein and corruption and Pedophilia because the Left thought they could get Trump with it.

First, you have to ask if there is an implication, then you are switching to calling an implication an assertion. There's obviously no assertion. That's why you had to ask if ther was an implication.

Your deviousness is on display for anyone who cares to look.

THe capitol hill police have already filed a lawsuit against the settlement and you can be sure that one of our 600 Kings and Queens in black robes will stop it. I surely do hate these "pot versus kettle" mud-throwing controversies. To be a politician these days (and probably ever before and ever after...), seems to REQUIRE unclean hands. It seems that the pol does not survive who does NOT sell his vote, who does NOT pander to special interests, who does NOT succumb to the temptations of greed, lust, and enjoying the "spoils" of public life.

It may not be strictly comparable, but..., yup, I thought I recalled reading something about a "secret" Congressional "slush fund" to pay cash settlements to hide sexual escapades (among other things, I suppose.)
It's been around (and quietly spoken of) for decades or more (IIRC), and members have resisted all efforts to compel public "transparency."

Same old song. The trolls are out, as usual, if Trump is mentioned.
Reality is after 10 years, and hundreds of millions of dollars spent, the left, and their sycophants on this blog, haven't laid a hand on Trump. They have cheered violence, death and imprisonment, and come up empty-again and again and again.
'don't feed the trolls' LOL. It is so satisfying to overlook their latest rants- knowing they are total failures at their jobs.
10 years-3650 days of outrage, lies, and rage, all to obey their masters commands. the entire media establishment, the most powerful in history, the unions, the state and federal workers-millions upon millions spent- and they have failed, every single time. Every time. Must be frustrating for them. To yell and scream and pray to Satan to eliminate DJT. and fail.
I enjoy watching the meltdowns.
Tucker, Candace, Massie, Kent, et al. destroyed themselves to ‘get Trump’.
What they can’t ever admit, is that Trump is the toughest President in American history, and NOTHING they do will ever change that.

Joe Biden and his son took millions from foreign nationals while Joe was in the Senate and as VP. By the time he was President, he didn't know he was President or he would have kept going. Corruption runs fully throughout Washington DC. These people and their breathlessness about Trump manage to miss Nancy Pelosi, Joe Biden, Ilhan Omar and so, so many others stealing in big chunks, right in front of our face.

Not excusing any of it by anyone. Just wishing for once their selective outrage would be more generalized.

Ostensibly set up to compensate those who the department claims have “suffered weaponization and lawfare,” it will in fact reward loyalists willing to defy the law and commit violence on behalf of the president.

Well, thank goodness this is in the opinion section, at least.

I am nonplussed by the memecoin, but for whatever my reasons I'm trying to maintain my ignorance about crypto generally and don't think I know enough to opine. But it's fricking obvious and undeniable personal corruption when a member of Congress, cabinet secretary, or president enters office with $X in net worth and leaves with $100X.

To say that "blatant" "corruption" (has any money even been disbursed from this fund yet? Can it be "corrupt" if it's just sitting there?) is worse than the kind that we're all supposed to wink at and assume is just good luck, smart investments, maybe a large inheritance from a generous but hitherto unknown uncle - I mean, it's typical Democrat deflection, but is it supportable? RJW seems to want to pretend that this piece sets the terms at "appropriate and constitutional," but in fact (from the headline!) it just dives straight into hair-on-fire "there has never been such corruption," without evidence, as they say.

I guess they couldn't use the norms-busting template, because they would've had to admit that there is a "normal" level and type of corruption that they're cool with.

I don't think you are using the term "pupilage" correctly. Are you implying that Native Americans were not considered inferior to whites in the 1800's? That is a very dubious (actually it is a ridiculous) assertion.

The only thing Freder can do is pretend to be a fucking idiot and not understand what is said then act like a dishonest fucking idiot and make something up.

But it's fricking obvious and undeniable personal corruption when a member of Congress, cabinet secretary, or president enters office with $X in net worth and leaves with $100X.

Indeed. Dan Crenshaw's constituents noticed, and when they pointed it out, his response included:

"So sure, why not? Don't let us trade stocks. We'll just keep whipping ourselves. How about we don't make any money either? Let's just cut our paycheck. We haven't got a pay raise since 2008.
...
So, actually, this is a great idea. Let's make Congress a place where only the millionaires can afford to have a job. Let's keep doing that. Because it's always some member who senses the populist energy and then mirrors it, believing it will help them connect with the people.

All my problems will be solved if there's no stock trading; all my problems will be solved if there's term limits.' But if you think about these things for more than five whole minutes, you might come to a different conclusion.
"

Crenshaw happens to represent the area where King Street Patriots/True the Vote was founded, and I don't recall him doing anything as Trump accomplished in bringing Catherine Englebrecht the justice she deserved for the IRS abuses. Had he worked to solve that problem while enriching himself; he might have won his primary. Instead, while doing little there, he was also asked to help J6'ers, said no, and called them terrorists.

Just read an X post noting that 10 current GOP Senators will be leaving the Senate in 2017. Any other election cycle, this would be huge news buoying Democrat spirits. Instead, they will likely be replaced by candidates interested in doing what their constituents sent them to do. This is derogatively called "populism". Actually, it is democracy.

So these are the same folks who assured us at each sketchy step through the Biden years that the DOJ was completely separate from the Presidency and would never even think of acting politically. They were 100% legit and worthy of undisputed honor. But now, apparently, the DOJ is a direct extension of the President, ready to do his evil bidding at a moment’s notice.

Other than those needing their daily Trump outrage fix, it’s hard to imagine anyone taking stuff like this from the NYT seriously anymore.
