"Judge [Kathleen M.] Williams’s decision came in response to court papers filed on Wednesday by a bipartisan group of 35 former federal judges who urged her to bring the case back to life and dig into the details of the agreement to settle it.... Before she closed the case, Judge Williams, an Obama appointee, had in fact questioned whether the lawsuit presented an actual conflict that she could adjudicate, given that Mr. Trump was on both sides of the suit, bringing claims against a federal agency that he controlled.... In her order, Judge Williams asserted that she was 'empowered to investigate serious misconduct' in any case before her, and ordered Mr. Trump’s lawyers to tell her by June 12 whether the lawsuit should be formally reopened because 'the court was the victim of a fraud.'..."
From: "Judge Reopens Trump’s I.R.S. Suit and Questions His ‘Weaponization’ Fund/The ruling was a blow to both President Trump, who had voluntarily dismissed the suit last week, and to the Justice Department, which used the suit to establish a fund likely intended for Trump allies" (NYT).

Good let’s reveal for the entire world how the IRS was weaponized by the Obama and Biden administrations. Let’s show who illegally obtained and sold Trump’s tax filings to the DNC Media. Let’s examine every conservative group who had their NGO harassed by Democrats via the IRS. Let’s rewind the tape all the way back to 2008 and prosecute the motherfuckers.
Is there a reason the true J6 lawfare victims, not the ones correctly prosecuted for violence, couldn’t bring a class action lawsuit against the government? Is prosecutorial discretion too broad to win?
Yes, reopen the case and let the victim have his say in court.
The process is the punishments rioters were rewarded by kamala charges were expunged ot you get slaps on the wrist like bernardine dohn
So, once again Judges can do anything. This time, its to re-open a case that both sides agreed to settle. Judge as Private Investigator. There's another suit, with another judge, saying the IRS-Trump agreement is invalid.
Why is this judiciary takover allowed? Easy. The Republican Congress refuses to do anything. They are really against Trump too. Will the Dumb R voters get wise? Doubtful.
You can feel the air leaving the Trump presidency.
Go look at the judges background: Queen Kathy WIlliams. She's just a fucking mediocre dime a dozen lawyer. Grad of Duke U. But she knew somebody in the Obama DOJ, so she got to be Queen for Life. And to overrule the DOJ and the President.
All of those judges went along with the lawfare
Prediction: It's a trap, and it just was sprung.
Like judge boasberg giving a aid looter a slap on the wrist 4 monthes
Breezy, there is already a class action lawsuit in process.
Exactly these signatories are the problem.
Wondering how many collusive settlements these federal judges approved the EPA and the likes of the Sierra Club.
All of them, is judge contreras of the bogus flynn plea bargain there
…yah these ding dong hawaiian judges grant themselves the power to overrule the executive so they get these ‘we’re fighting Trump’ headlines but the case will fizzle long before any democrat malfeasance can be exposed in court. They’ll be on to the next thing…
such easy conflation of the Trump IRS settlement with the j6 victims. Since when do courts mandate how a settlement can be spent?
J. Michael Luttig is a RINO and on the list. He has a bad case of TDS. Not credible. I’ve read some of his writings and heard him speak. Shocked that he was ever on any SCOTUS list.
The word of the day is proscription
This “settlement” is an unconstitutional appropriation of public funds not authorized by Congress. His Fraudulency was both the plaintiff and the defendant, over actions that occurred during His Fraudulency’s first Presidency.
The irs was liable for allowing info to be leaked for allowing settlement of michael cohens tax losses in returj for false trstimony
Like Aggie, I suspect a trap has been sprung. The January 6th victims have an incredibly strong case for civil rights violations perpetrated by the Biden DoJ and its various officials. Now the Trump DoJ can offer open books to a class action lawsuit against the IRS, DoJ, and FBI and not fight for the Biden officials who get sued individually. Time to get the popcorn.
And just when lying sack of shit E Jean Carrol sees her lawfare against Trump falling apart. Anyone heard from Fani Willis lately?
Mike (MJB Wolf), thanks.
Perpetual motion is a dream. Perpetual justice is s nightmare, maybe, baby.
Wasn't Willis hoisted on her Fani?

How do those judges have "standing"?
Judges don’t need no stinking’ standing.
Folks, I totally get that the Biden and Obama administrations weaponized the IRS, but please step back and ask yourselves if you really want to endorse this sue and settle maneuver. So any president could just sue the federal government for whatever reason, direct the DOJ to settle the case a bajillion dollars, and then withdraw the suit? Nothing wrong with that, right?
Judge Brinkema’s past mortgage applications are being reviewed as we speak.

people NEED to realize, that the US Constitution clearly states:
that ALL ABSOLUTE POWER resides in unelected District Judges.
This is THE FUNDAMENTAL TENNET of our Democracy.
Wondering how many collusive settlements these federal judges approved the EPA and the likes of the Sierra Club.
This is a very good question and a very serious problem. But do you know how you do NOT solve this problem? By giving Trump a $1.8 billion fund. Derp.
"Trump gets to be corrupt because other people have been corrupt" is not as persuasive as you think it is.
So, 35 retired judges are the 4th branch of government? Exactly how did the "urging" take place? Did a meeting open to the public occur? Is there a document signed by the 35 judges?
Trump wasn't president when these suits were brought.
Fortunately, we live in a Republic, under a Constitution that mitigates democratic/majoritarian/dictatorial progress.
Of course you sanction the steal
This settlement benefitted the people in the Biden DoJ and IRS who carried out these persecutions- they don't face having to defend lawsuits on a personal basis. If the settlement is upended, those lawsuits go forward and the Trump DoJ is under no obligation whatsoever to bury the evidence in the normal manner the federal government does and is under no obligation to fight to get those individual suits thrown out.
I will enjoy watching Merrick Garland etal. watching in court as DoJ witnesses testify to their violations of the civil rights acts rather than testifying to defend them, and that is what is going to happen absent this settlement.
These judges need to learn that they do not have plenary oversight of the Executive Branch. If people don't like something the president or his administration does, the constitutional remedy for that is elections or impeachment.
Also, where was this judge when, for example, Obama's administration decides not prosecute Hillary for her illegal email server? Why isn't that just as much a "fraud" warranting a court's investigation?
ha ha ha ha ha
Fraud is so bad
Trump wasn't president when these suits were brought.
I don't believe that is true - suit was brought in January 2026. I am not sure it should matter that he was the sitting President, he still has rights that can be vindicated through the courts, plus it seems like a slam-dunk win - the IRS contractor who leaked the taxes was criminally convicted, seems abundantly clear that the IRS should be civilly liable for this. And as stated above, once a settlement has been reached, Trump can do whatever he wants with the settlement money, including giving it to J6'ers. Would the left be happier if Trump just kept the settlement money for himself?
A state funded slush fund and immunity from tax audits for Trump's family. Elect a criminal, get a criminal state. Trump, his family and his friends, they are little different to the Goodfellas.
The judge is, like, what am I even looking at? Not only is it wildly corrupt, it’s also so incompetently designed and worded. Good to see corruption and venality get stalled in the courts. Trump Inc needs to be stopped.
This reminds me of the AI/tech bubble of epic proportions funded by circular financing. Ultimately, however, these stories regarding Trump's profiteering and corruption schemes are also significant financial stories even if they originate in the political realm.
They reserve the right to steal to persecute to imprison that is the point
The Google Engineer Accused of Risking It All With an Insider Polymarket Bet ~ WSJ
My guess is people not affiliated with the Trump admin, are getting extra attention from regulators and prosecutors to make it look like they're really cracking down on insider trading.
What if historically awful and open and obvious corruption actually moved judges to test the limits of their inherent power? Something might happen, until SCOTUS quashes it on the Separate But Equal Docket.
The question is whether a heist so brazen will trigger the same exception they carved out in the tariff and Federal Reserve firing cases: "Don't touch the money."
Why are you all so upset? The judge wants to understand the details of a $1.8 billion taxpayer-funded settlement that the president made with himself, along with the add-on that he can't be audited anymore (a stipulation jn clear violation of federal law). Seems like something anyone with common sense would want looked over.
“A federal judge in Miami reopened President Trump’s... case against the I.R.S.... saying that she wanted to investigate 'grievous allegations' that the hasty deal to resolve it was 'premised on deception.'..."
This is what happens when you don’t use AI.
So, what the judge is implying, is that any executive, legislative, judicial, or bureaucratic decision with benefits is a redistributive change scheme (e.g. Obamacares, Learing Centers, USAID, abortion clinics, sims therapy, DEIsm, immigration reform, etc).

Slightly related: Governor Newsom announced a couple of days ago that he wanted to put a 100% state tax on the money that anyone in California would receive from this Trump fund. So basically, he was saying that he wanted to show that this money shouldn't be given out by having the state just confiscate it all. But then why would the state of California deserve this money instead? That makes no sense.
So the Democrats have corrupted former judges as well as sitting judges. Dog bites man.
Bottom line judges are upset that Trump had a legitimate case and won.
"But then why would the state of California deserve this money instead? That makes no sense."
He's a Democrat. They believe everything belongs to the government and the government then permits people to have a tiny fraction of that stuff. Maybe.

You have a choice.
The fascist Obama DOJ/IRS/FBI/CIA/XXX pieces of shit that attacked Obama's enemies are going to pay a price for their actions.
It can be monetary or it can be something else.
I prefer to have mass public executions myself.

OH, NOW THAT'S WRONG.
LOL.
Let me guess, we have to stop Trump, but we won't go back and roll back any Team Obama sue and settle.
And then once a Dem is back in the WH suddenly it will be coolio again.
If you want to stop sue and settle, then make it illegal. Figure it out. Congress is sitting there all year and could figure it out.
The Senate, sits there all year, and doesn't stop Sue & Settle...but gets butthurt when Trump does it.

Obama was given billions of dollars and has multiple sea side mansions all over the country. He has contributed exactly 0 to this country. He hasn't produced a single thing anyone else wanted except government corruption.
Obama is one of the most corrupt and evil pieces of shit to ever be in the white house.

Buddy, even your insults don't make any sense. Why would a retard pretend to not understand things?
"Sue and settle" is a very long-standing method of extracting money from the government. When the liberals did it - which they have for decades - no one complained.
Obama's sea side mansions reside in DC, (only president to stay in DC), Hawaii, and Martha's vineyard....
Probably has satellite mansion in Italy near George Clooney.
I was involved in tax matters for 40 years and I never heard of a judge opening an IRS administrative settlement.

Nobody is stupid enough to think Obama wasn't corrupt and given billions of dollars.
The "Obama Library" is really hard to miss and cost a billion by itself.
The retard part is where you think pretending to not understand simple things works to convince anyone of anything.
There is no point talking to someone who pretends to be stupid so they can be dishonest. The only value will be gained from mocking retards like you and shaming you.

You never saw corporations settle with the IRS...
In 40 years...
Did General Motors settle with the IRS? Just curious how far you plan to take this line before we start talking about how often the IRS settled with people who owed taxes instead of going to court.
But that does skip the fact that the IRS did leak Trump's tax returns and this was clearly illegal and the IRS was clearly liable for breaking the law. One thing that may not have happened in your "40 years" was the IRS breaking the law and publicly and illegally leaking your clients tax returns.
Arturo, once your realize that Achilles just did a line of coke before typing his post, his words make a lot more sense.
Key word in Leora's comment is 'opening'. I think 're-opening' would be more accurate in that the case was already settled by the judge. But 'opening' also works as what's being 'opened' isn't the case itself but the settlement.
Lifetime tenure gives a lot of fundamentally small people a chance to act very large, and without accountability. I'm reminded of the efforts by the Israeli judiciary to obtain a broad veto power over the other two branches. Once you have a judiciary that is absolutely certain that it can government better than its coordinate branches, this is what happens.
This reminds me of DC Judge Emmet G. Sullivan (also a Black Leftwing Democrat). He refused to accept the DoJ dropping the case against General Flynn. Then appointed one of his buddies to in effect investigate and prosecute the case! He then dragged the whole thing out, causing Flynn to incur more legal fees, before Trump pardoned him.
Sullivan then had to mull that over, because District Judges are Kings who can thumb their noses at the POTUS pardon power. After all, what is a "Pardon"? Does it mean this, or does it mean that? Gosh, its so grey and murkey.
All the time NR's Andy McCarthy a "true Conservative" was assuring everybody that Sullivan was a "Straight shooter" an "Honorable man" who would be completely unbiased. LOL!
He later defended Wray another "honorable man, and straight shooter".

“Folks, I totally get that the Biden and Obama administrations weaponized the IRS, but please step back and ask yourselves if you really want to endorse this sue and settle maneuver.”
Sure. Dems shovel billions to their pet causes. Constituencies, etc through sweetheart sue and settle deals. And Trump and the Republicans should take the high road, and let the Dems do it again the next time that they are in power.
“ Key word in Leora's comment is 'opening'. I think 're-opening' would be more accurate in that the case was already settled by the judge. But 'opening' also works as what's being 'opened' isn't the case itself but the settlement.”
You have a choice here. You have a settlement. Or an open case. You don’t get to reopen the settlement, and leave the dismissal of the case in place. I expect that the judge thinks that he can do just that. But that deprives the plaintiffs of the benefit of their bargain.
Dave Begley--Luttig was on the list because Republicans regularly botch Supreme Court appointments (see Eisenhower (Brennan and Warren), Ford (Stevens), Reagan (O'Connor and Kennedy), Bush I (Souter), Bush 2 (Roberts), and Trump (Kavanaugh)). Conservatives have been extraordinarily lucky--from 1952-2024 they held the Presidency for 40 years (56% of the time), but they got to appoint 21 out of 30 Supreme Court justices during that period (70%). Nearly 1/3 of the R appointments have been disappointing, while the Ds are running at close to 100% liberals (I suspect that Whizzer White was too "conservative" for most Ds). On the other hand, many R nominees had to get by a D senate. I was surprised that Johnson failed to fill two seats before he left office (later filled by the Minnesota twins--Burger and Blackmun) and of course Ruth Bader Ginsburg's showboating cost Obama a chance to appoint a third liberal politician to the Court. One can only dream about how much better our country would be if the Rs had appointed Thomas/Alito candidates instead of the likes of Warren/Brennan/Stevens/O'Connor/Kennedy/Souter/Roberts/Kavanaugh.
IANAL, but wouldn't opening or re-opening the case be a denial of the plaintiff's "settled" benefit?
