Newsom, Illinois, NY/NYC, Maryland, and now blue-come-lately Virginia are hell bent on pushing as far into the surreal left as they can.
I take this as the literal collapse phase of the ideology. The money is running out. There's a lot of pushback from all sides. Detransition lawsuits are going to destroy the industry. Medical industry organizations are backing down in 2026 (ASPS, AMA). European countries are backing away from the gender-affirming care model.

There are quite a few transgender people working in this town, enough to where I think it's a remarkable number. These are just the ones that are in customer interface positions, I'm sure there are more.
To me, they're all kind of sad, lost creatures, humans but with a creepy vibe that signals damage way deeper than their weird appearances. All of them are over-weight. The females-going-male all sport that strange wispy facial hair, what there is of it, and soft musculature. The males-going-female have that bigger-boned undeniably male stature that can't hidden with boobs and lipstick, and male attempts at female hair. One of them is about 6'2".
I try not to get creeped out, but it ain't easy. I admit that if there's a choice of lines, I won't be in theirs. There's absolutely no way that our government should be underwriting any of this, whether they're illegal aliens, convicted felons, or US citizen war heros. It's wrong. I can accept that some are driven by a need that cannot be fulfilled by psychological help. But there is no way that a civilized society can imprint its seal of good practice, show approval and then proceed to underwrite it, when there are so many broader medical challenges that people are dying from in much bigger numbers. Solve the pediatric cancer problem first.

The wealthy say "I've got mine, you go away" and have done that since Proposition 13 of 1978. I know two doctors and a nurse who raise money (in an extremely "conservative" area), and also spend their own money to regularly travel to third world countries to treat children who have cleft lips. In some of these places, such disabilities also cause very negative and dangerous social responses, and it is not always safe for them, either. From one little town, they saved hundreds of lives, and they performed other necessary medical surgery and treatment on other children.Yet the pro-child-trans people would likely label then narcissistic Evangelical Christians. Just last year the Gov. vetoed a bill that would have required insurers to cover, and pharmacists to dispense, 12 months of hormone therapy at one time to transgender patients and others. Newsom cited cost as the issue. He said at that time: “At a time when individuals are facing double-digit rate increases in their health care premiums across the nation, we must take great care to not enact policies that further drive up the cost of health care, no matter how well-intended,” Newsom wrote.

Woke means that the person who disagrees with the progressive stance on any topic is unworthy of human interaction. There is to be no "agree to disagree," no compromise, no discussion, no acknowledgement of a possible alternative theory. Open discussion with a non-progressive is their definition of darkness, and we all know what happens in darkness.

I’m not “woke” because in my language “woke” is not an adjective.
I’m no expert on gender dysphoria, intersex, or other disorders but as a child, I did know of a farmer who had a 200 pound goat who had both a vagina and a penis. The elder farmers hypothesized that the large weight was nature’s way of protecting it from being killed by the other goats.
I’ve wondered over the years if there was a time some doctor had to look up at a new mother and ask: “whadda ya want me to do, snip or stitch ?”. And of course, raising the child who lost the coin flip of the snip or stitch would make for some awkward teenage years for both the child and the parents.
Granted, such occurrences would be extremely rare but I’m sure there are multiple levels of the seriousness of conditions.
Just seems to me that rather than this orchestrated political attack on .5 percent of Americans dealing with such handicaps, for no other reason than to pump oxygen into the “war on woke” to rile and anger their base or to muddy the waters of public and political discourse and feed the echo chamber of sympathetic right-wing media and blogs in order to prey on naive and unsuspecting constituents, this issue would be better left to these parents, medical profession, and their religious faith rather than politicians intruding in their lives.

I live in central California. The route I drive every Wednesday to see my clients takes me parallel to the high-speed rail for about 60 miles: gigantic concrete structures, comparable in size to a football stadium, built in the farmland around small towns, populations with about 10,000. Pay for a ticket to Wasco CA so you can visit a Taco Bell.
The construction is as wasteful as a Middle East war. My beautiful state of California is toast. We inherited a great economy, land and culture, and ruined it in about one and a half generations.

As Enigma said above, the lawsuit Tsunami headed at the Transgender factories will make the Tobacco & Asbestos litigation look like a warm-up. Many medical centers, especially those attached to academic institutions, will not have enough liability coverage to pay $$$Billions in damages. The large reinsurance policies will be exhausted and they will be forced to liquidate endowments and any property that can be sold in distress sales — it will be brutal, and the Blue States that are still playing this game will get nailed to the wall.

Please point me to just one person, never mind a basket of them, who believe that people born with ambiguous genitalia represent a *generalized* threat. You can't, not only because they don't exist, but also because you confuse genotype with phenotype. XX and XY are two different exclusively bimodal genotypes. Very rarely, genotype and phenotype don't match, leading to very real consequences, which are a result of progressives having no limiting principles.
For instance, I don't want to see an XY genotype with female phenotype external genitalia pounding crap out of an XX boxer.
Further, because progressives have no limiting principles, they have no response to intact men self identifying as ersatz women parading in women's spaces.
As a man, ersatz women are no threat to me. But they very often are threat to women I care very much about, and am born to defend.

My entire career was spent with woke coworkers in both white shoe law firms and bay area biotech companies. The problem with woke is that it is extremely intolerant of any deviation from the ideology. I saw this constantly. Any idea that is even a small step toward the center is condemned and shouted down. Newsom can’t change this policy because the democrat woke core won’t accept it and would crucify him if he tried. Philz coffee in San Francisco just tried to implement a policy of removing pride flags from their store. The firestorm over this one thing was over-the-top. Philz CEO had to back down and issue the standard struggle session apology. Years ago a high tech CEO had to resign for merely making a campaign contribution against an upcoming referendum on gay marriage in California. Woke will not accept any deviation from their beliefs.
If so many men who are undocumented women and women who are undocumented men are a problem, wouldn't it be easier and cheaper to just issue them new documents, rather than paying doctors to resculpt their genitalia?
Part of the left's current play book appears to be: it's about a small group and a small amount of money and you just want to be mean to those people. This goes along with the finding (Jonathan Haidt's I think) that liberals are preoccupied with ideas of suffering and victimization, while conservatives take other factors and arguments into account.
First of all, this argument has nothing to do with the unfortunate lives of the very few hermaphrodites or intersex persons. Their problems are more legitimately medical and society can provide for them without the measures under discussion here. There are young people who are unhappy because they feel they are trapped in the wrong body. As we've seen lately, their numbers can go up and down depending on social factors. But that's not always the case. Were Caitlyn Jenner or Rachel Levine or Jennifer Pritzker or Jan Morris really suicidally depressed because they had penises rather than vaginas? Are people really oppressed because they didn't have both a penis and a vagina? Might that not be a luxury desire, rather than a necessity.
Secondly, we are seeing that small numbers add up over time. That's the lesson of the 1965 Immigration and Naturalization Act. We're also seeing that we get more of what we subsidize. Tell male criminals that they can go to a women's prison and we will pay for their surgeries, and we will get more men in women's prisons. Good for the male prisoners, not necessarily for the females -- or for the taxpayers. Tell illegal aliens that they can have refugee status as transsexuals and we will pay for their surgeries, and we will get more illegals and more wasteful spending. Tell people that they are unfairly deprived if they can't have both male and female sex organs and that will come to be seen as right the government has to pay for.
Last week or so we had the argument that only very few people engaged in birthright pregnancy tourism and we just want to be mean to them. Again, those small numbers add up over time. Add to them the anchor babies and the illegal entrants who come here to give birth to them and the numbers get bigger and bigger. Foreigners born during their mothers' quick trip to the US, people with no real ties to the country, could have serious effects when they come to the US to live. Why not deal with that problem now, rather than wait for it to grow? Why not affirm that borders, citizenship, and nationality have real meaning now, before things get worse?
Eventually the illegal alien trannies are gonna jump on the gravy train and sue their "doctors" who ruined their lives.
And California taxpayers will probably have to pay for their legal representation to do so. Getting screwed from both ends by their elected representatives.
