"... to settle claims that he was illegally surveilled by federal authorities. Multiple courts had dismissed federal lawsuits that Page — who was never charged with a crime — filed against the government, saying the statute of limitations on his ability to make these claims had lapsed. Last month, the Justice Department reached a settlement with Trump’s former national security adviser Michael Flynn for more than $1 million, asserting he had been the victim of a politicized prosecution. Flynn pleaded guilty to charges that he lied to law enforcement about his conversations with a Russian diplomat during Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign, then later sought to withdraw that plea. The case against him was dismissed in 2020 after Trump pardoned him.... The department under the Biden administration had fought to have the suits filed by Page and Flynn thrown out, arguing that they were legally meritless...."
From "DOJ is paying out Trump allies, undermining former investigations/Since Trump’s return to the White House last year, the Justice Department has paid more than $8.5 million to resolve legal claims brought by allies and supporters" (WaPo)(gift link).

Good, but it should have come out of the Progressive liars in Congress' paychecks.
Very small settlements for the illegal lawfare perpetrated against them. I wish we could imprison the people that went after them in the first place.’ They, like the scum they are, are just waiting to be resurrected.
…so their spin is the Biden government used all of the people’s resources just to fuck with him as part of a smear campaign but since he wasn’t charged with a crime he shouldn’t receive compensation?
…and how disgusting they try to make the compensation sound like frivolous spending. How many trillions are we on the hook for their lawfare, fbi psy ops, illegals and the associated fraud? Don’t come back with your whines about 8.5 million until you’ve tallied…
Did they include the even larger payouts to FBI Supervisor Strojk and his FBI side piece that smeared hero Carter Page as a traitor even though Page had voluntarily assisted the investigation?
The DOJ is settling claims. That usually means they are saving time and money. Which is actually too bad in these cases. These victims deserve more.
WaPo is blind and psycho.
"..saying the statute of limitations on his ability to make these claims had lapsed..."
he SHOULD have just said; that he couldn't remember WHEN these things happened.. or gotten the state to pass an exemption
I have no problem with ignoring the statute of limitations when the Democrats waived the statute to allow a bogus prosecution of Trump in NY.
Mike, thanks for reminding me of that scum Strojk. Now my blood pressure is spraying out of my ears.
I will NEVER forget the smirk on his face during his Congressional appearance.
Flynn pleaded guilty to charges that he lied to law enforcement about his conversations with a Russian diplomat during Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign, then later sought to withdraw that plea.
So, we're just going to elide how this went down, hmm, WaPo? That they illegally recorded his initial questioning without telling him and then entrapped him later when he couldn't precisely remember a detail about it? Wasn't there also something about his being told he couldn't have counsel present?
But sure. Flynn was the bad actor here
Yep. It was his creepy shimmy that burned into my brain.
Lefties hate the modest payment to men wronged by the government they served but are radio silent on the enormous scale of fraud costing us $1- or $2- Trillion per YEAR.
Jamie, don't forget the threats to prosecute Flynn's son if he didn't plead guilty.
Carter Page was one of many who were abused by the Democrats in their zeal to hamstring and remove Trump. He was another casualty of their horseshit scheme to return them to power and save THEIR version of “DEMOCRACY”, which is nothing of the sort.
Everything Democrats do… everything they touch turns to shit. They are a perpetual, continuing criminal enterprise at this point.

@shipwreckedcrew
If the SPLC's payments of millions of dollars to individuals involved with racist hate groups wasn't controversial, why did the SPLC take active steps to conceal what it was doing?
If donors would have been fine with what they were doing, why the need for bank accounts in the name of fictitious companies?

IRC, Flynn plead guilty because he'd been bleed white for legal fees and they threatened to drag his Son into it. He withdrew his guilty plea when it was learned the FBI couldn't properly document what Flynn actually said. The district judge then refused to accept DOJ dropping the case, and tried to prosecute Flynn on his own. Just another DC District Judge thinking he's God.
Trump fired Flynn because the trusted Pence and Comey. LOL.
Trump had better hire someone decent as his new AG. That's what killed him in his 1st term. He hired phony Sessions and corrupt Rosenstein. That led directly to Russiagate. And then he compouded it with Barr, who stabbed him the back again and again.
People always let Sessions slide on Russiagate. He was offered DHS but insisted on AG. Then he got Rosenstein hired as DAG. Almost immediately after confirmation, he recused himself for no good reason, and let Rosenstein handle Russiagate. His plan all along was to sabotage Trump, then resign and go back to the Senate.
How is it possible to 'undermine a former investigation'? It seems to me that nobody is trying to over-write history, so how would it be even theoretically possible? Or has the WaPo somehow learned of somebody's future plans, should midterms result in a certain outcome?
There should be a press release with each one of these settlements detailing the cost of the phony investigations, the interrogations, the legal bullying, the wasted efforts for political gain, that has caused these settlements to become necessary. And the Inspector General ought to be the one making the announcement.
Trump had better hire someone decent as his new AG
…yah it was fun throwing Bondi under the bus but she was doing exactly what she was tasked to do- accept the referrals, soundbites, a stray indictment here and there, soundbites and…that’s it. If you haven’t caught on the game by now…and speaking of catching on to the game, those trillions the left are using to fund their pet political projects? They needed and still need Republicans to approve the money. Somehow they get all the help they need…
I had forgotten the threats against Flynn's son. Thanks for the reminder!
WaPo, any comment?
A million dollars to this friend, a million to that friend.
Brilliant messaging during an affordability crisis. We all pay more for gas, but thats OK because Trump's buddies can now retire more comfortably.
Y'all throw a tantrum about Dem self dealing, give me a break.
Back then we didnt know all the tripwires that were around comey and in the justice department
The subterfuge with judge contreras who recused after the plea
I’m cool with the concept that there is no — or very long — statute of limitations when it comes to government action. Pay them out.
Kind of like when blue cities settle with Crump. Or the Chicago Police "federal" consent decree. CC, JSM
Crump is no on the social medihumtnt although still mau maing
I don't think Flynn was made whole with this settlement. Defending himself from the process probably cost him more than that.
The Dems want to do their best to make sure Flynn doesn't get his reputation back.
The whole sale cancellation debanking and inprisonment of trump supporters was the point
He spent three million with an atty that did nothing
It took sydney powell to fix this and then judge gleason was still pouncing
The former was a covington burling minion
The whole sale cancellation debanking and inprisonment of trump supporters was the point
We ain't seen nothing yet.
Look at how eastman was disbarred for crimethink see guliani
Mark: "Brilliant messaging during an affordability crisis. We all pay more for gas, but thats OK because Trump's buddies can now retire more comfortably."
Yup, $8.5M - why, that's almost 40 cents per man, woman and child in the US! I could drive halfway around my block for that! CC, JSM
How did these settlements increase the price of gas?
John - more like 2.4 cents per person
“ Flynn pleaded guilty to charges that he lied to law enforcement about his conversations with a Russian diplomat during Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign, then later sought to withdraw that plea.”
It turns out to have been a bit worse than that.
Start with the two perps. The FBI agents who interviewed Flynn. They both worked closely with Peter Strzok, in the FBI’s Counterintelligence Division (CD). Which is the sister unit with the DOJ’s Counterintelligence and Export Control group (CEC), run by Jay Bratt, who fabricated and ran the FL documents case against Trump. Both organizations were the ones who wrote and approved the four fraudulent and illegal FISA warrants on Carter Page and others. Using the already debunked (by CD) Steele Dossier (along with lies by CD atty Clinesmith, that the CIA had told them Carter wasn’t one of theirs, when they had said he was).
In any case, these two CD agents ignored FBI protocol in their interview of Flynn, including lying about its pretext, and that they were required to warn him to have an attorney present. This was esp egregious because he had dotted line authority over the CD, and, as we found with his successor, DNI Gabbord, to review all of their (along with CEC) work, as well as that of the CIA, NSA, etc. And the FBI, along with RussiaGate, was covering up allowing contractors doing “About” searches of the NSA databases, with little, if any, supervision.
The CD also was the organization ran the electronic surveillance on the Russian ambassador. While they only run for 90 days, they are automatically renewed, and no doubt had been since FISA was enacted. Everyone knew that, including Flynn and the Russians. The problem is that FISA requires that the identification of Americans in the US (inc the WH West Wing) to be “minimized”, except in certain circumstances. That meant that it was illegal for those two FBI agents to have used the FISA surveillance transcripts, except in very limited circumstances. They can be utilized to solve former crimes. But not, as here, in creating the § 1001 perjury trap of Flynn.
Thanks bruce
You know what causes an affordability crisis? The sudden influx of tens of millions of people who are now competing for housing and jobs, driving up rent and driving down wages.
We don't hate the corrupt democratic party enough.
The Modern corrupt democrat party make Soviet tactics look tame.
Mark - YOUR asshole party destroys lives - using LIES.
You and your party can F right off.
OT: Another reason to despise the corrupt democratic Soviet party
This should be illegal.
For context, Crossfire Hurricane cost $6.5 million. When that failed to bring any charges, the Mueller Investigation spent another $32 million to destroy the Crossfire Hurricane evidence.
I'd have preferred the compensation come directly out of the coffers of Mary McCord and Andrew Weissman, but baby steps.
Russiagate demonstrated that the CIA and FBI were more like high school cliques shunning and tormenting the new kid than like James Bond. Now the mean girls like Abigail Spanberger have branched out into politics.
Judging in a purely non-partisan way, based on looks alone, I suspect Spanberger is part vampire.
Unlike full blooded vampires, people who are only part vampire can go out in the sun without bursting into flame. It stings like a motherfucker, but it's doable.
Aswang in a skin suit
$1M? Small potatoes for what they went through.
Now put the perps in prison
To the cultists (D) - any amount of tax payer money and endless lies and fraud - are worth it to destroy anyone disloyal to the corrupt democratic soviet left.
Carter Page has been fighting this for a decade and prorated over that time the payout is way under the average DC salary so yes Meager Mark that tiny award pales in comparison to ongoing Uniparty graft and family self-dealing. No self-respecting NGO CEO would stoop to such a salary.
Bob I always assumed she is an albino witch but she could simply be Canadian.
Scamburger is an albino.
You cannot understand what happened to General Michael Flynn without knowing who Robyn Gritz. Gritz filed a sex discrimination claim against Andrew McCabe and Flynn had the temerity to write a letter in support of her. McCabe and the FBI ran Gritz right out of the government, and then they really unloaded on Flynn, concocting bogus charges, editing the 492 form
Also he could read through bogus intel reports
… editing the FBI 302 forms to put words into his mouth that he never said. Flynn was bankrupted, he and his son were threatened with jail.
This was yet another point where Althouse badly disappointed me. She may quote feminist theory, but when a real woman faces genuine discrimination then it’s Democrats can do no wrong.
Of course the crap dished out to Page and Flynn still goes on. Look at what’s happening to John Eastman.
They left this part out -
"What happened to Peter Strzok and Lisa Page?
In May 2024, Strzok and Page reached a tentative settlement with the Justice Department. On July 26, it was revealed that Strzok will receive $1.2 million and Lisa Page will receive $800,000."
Talk about self dealing (one hand washes the other)
Headline: Is entrapment worth the price? Authoritative Influencers (AI) have not reached a consensus.
A Whitmer-conspiracy? Invariably.
So, the article fails to note the Flynn pled guilty when the FBI threatened to ruin his son's life.
I am not crazy about it, but the left did it when they were in power. What did McCabe get? The left did all sorts of collusive lawsuits and got favorable settlements from Biden. I didn't like it then, but given the silence of the left then, I have no sympathy for their complaints now. Trump does what they have done previously.
