Elevator is out in my building.

I hope nobody is stuck in it.

No A/C in the elevator.

Hit 90 today, at least in my car.

My vacation has so far far been less the ideal. Was supposed to leave for FL Monday. Monday better half was at Dr to get diagnosed and medicine for a UTI- and was having URI symptoms like mine that I started taking azithromycin for on Saturday. Doctor said her UTI meds would take care of her URI also. My URI started getting better- then started getting worse. Went to an urgent care today. Doctor heard the story and said it was probably viral not bacterial since the azithromycin didn't kill it, and I had it just let it run it's course. Then he got his stethoscope out and listened. And decided I needed X-rays to rule out pneumonia. Then diagnosed me with acute bronchitis- my first diagnosed case in 70 years on this Earth. I don't recommend it. Another antibiotic, prednisone, and something else. Sent to the Walgreens my wife uses when she's down here with the grandkids. And we get there- no pharmacist there today! But the manager says we can pick it up at any Walgreens. Went to the next one 11 miles away- they can't pull it up- because no one was at the targeted store to receive the prescription. So a call to the provider- and I was the 3rd patient that day to discover that there was no pharmacist on duty... took a while for them to rewrite and redirect so we went to lunch. All in all, >3 hours to get the script. The people at the second Walgreens were VERY helpful.

So Monday, with me still on meds, we're off to Sanibel Island, the focal point of this expedition. Sunlight and UV rays are good for infection fighting. WE set the trip up last year with plenty of notice since my better half and several of her siblings wanted to go there. Me, my wife, son and daughter-in-law, and 5 grandchildren in a vacation retreat for 14. Best laid plans...

Aside from that, been a pretty good trip. Been walking my dog-in-law around in the sun. Shirt off, taking in the naturally produced Vitamin D. We took a different route down going west on I-90 then south on I-79, only major city encountered Pittsburgh, and we sailed right through. Longer in distance, with no DC or Baltimore or other beltway, shorter in time.

Chilly in the sun. Then clouds. Aching head. Decided, not enough caffeine. Coffee drove out aches. Decided to do bacon tomorrow to clear up any remaining trouble. Chocolate tonight.

Gospace - ditto. I returned from a vacation 3 weeks ago with a respiratory infection. Antibiotic cleared it up. Then I caught a nasty nasal infection. Doxycycline cleared that up. Wednesday I was diagnosed with another respiratory infection worse than the original. Azithromycin and prednisone this time and the pharmacist guarantees this will knock it out. Not fun. Enjoy your vacation.

Traveling to Florida from NW PA over the few days visiting spouse’s relatives. Found out her uncle (89 years old) developed the guidance system for the Apollo mission(s). An actual rocket scientist. Interesting stories from him.

First pond swim of the wetsuit portion of the season. 58°F 1/2-mile. Heavenly.

FYI

Yes, research indicates that prior or frequent use of antibiotics can make an individual more susceptible to developing subsequent urinary tract infections (UTIs) and, in some cases, increase the risk of respiratory infections (URIs) due to the disruption of the body's natural microbiome.

We’re meeting up tomorrow with our married children and our grandkids in Yosemite for a few days. The weather is warming and it would be fun even if it wasn’t. Last time my wife and I visited the park was June of 2023. The river and falls were running high that year. The beauty was absolutely stunning.

Just got back from the Widespread Panic show in Birmingham with the older Beastette. We went down a little early and had a fabulous dinner* and got to the venue about fifteen minutes before they took the stage. And thirty minutes after that, the bottom dropped out!!

We knew there was a decent chance of rain so we brought a couple of disposable rain ponchos. They worked well enough but the rain was blowing directly onto the stage so they had to take a safety break. For almost an hour… lol

They came back for the second set and played for almost two hours straight, and then rocked a five song, 35 minute encore! Just effin’ amazing music and talent…

The best part of the evening, however, was spending it with one of my daughters. Meaningful in every way. Blessed beyond belief, and so thankful for said blessings. Life is the sum of our experiences and tonight ranked among the finest days of my entire life.

And thanks for letting me share that. :)

*If you’re ever in the area, Hot and Hot Fish Club is exquisite, and they finally got a nod from Michelin. Not a star, but recognition, nonetheless. Perhaps the best black Grouper I’ve ever had. Dang…

Thank you, Saint Croix.
I had seen Ministry of Fear before, but I enjoyed watching it again very much. I completely agree with you - Ray Milland is wonderful in it.
I had never seen While the City Sleeps or The Thousand Eyes of Dr. Mabuse before. The Thousand Eyes was such an unusual movie. Shades of Christopher Nolan. The plot was so complex and really ahead of its time. I’m going to have to watch that one again.
The Blue Gardenia features Raymond Burr playing the bad guy, Harry Prebble. I’ve seen that one before - it’s a very good movie.
Spies is a silent, so I’ll have to devote some proper time to it. Man Hunt is now also on my list to watch.
You also mentioned The Big Clock. That one was remade as No Way Out with Kevin Costner. Both movies are among my favorites. I’ve watched each of them a couple of times, and I highly recommend them to anyone who hasn’t seen them yet.
Sean Young was so good in No Way Out. It’s such a shame her career was derailed afterward with her troubles with James Woods.
I’m going to have to disagree with you on M. I really enjoyed that one when I saw it. The central idea - using the police as such a massive nuisance that the criminals themselves start helping to catch the killer - was incredibly clever.
You didn’t mention the first 2 Mabuse movies which I had also never heard of. They’re supposed to be better than the 1000 Eyes. So those are also on my list.

Eva Marie કહ્યું...

I’ve never paid that much attention to Fritz Lang before. I’ve watched several of his movies and enjoyed them, but I never really connected the dots to the director himself. As a big fan of thrillers, I should have been more aware of him. It’s clear that Alfred Hitchcock was heavily influenced by Lang’s work.

Beasts, glad you got to spend a lovely evening with your daughter. Your comments are always so enjoyable to read.

Just returned from a scenic train ride from Vancouver to Toronto. It's still winter up there. No WiFi and spotty cell phone service, so it was a vacation from the news. It was like being on a ship at sea. One woman was raving about Trump, but she got off at Jasper.

@Gospace -- Sorry to hear and happy to hear...

Regarding I95 between the northeast and Florida, places such as Richmond, VA, Savannah, GA and the I26 exit toward Charleston, SC.

We chose an overnight hotel on the south side of Savannah during a northbound segment. Well...we spent 30+ minutes just getting through town and on the freeway. In "little" Savannah. One could save time by staying just past a city in the direction of travel. It doesn't help that I95 narrows from 3 lanes to 2 lanes in the not-so-rural-anymore regions.

Enigma કહ્યું...

Autocorrect deleted part of my comment above, and my browser isn't showing an edit option.

The first paragraph used to say that traffic jams are now common in smaller towns along I95 too. This disappeared when Safari got busy.

My favorite AIIC (alleged Iranian in charge) is the one who said yesterday “We’ve been holding back but we might have to strike a major blow to the Invaders.” Amazing how patient he’s been up to now IMO. Our mine sweepers still haven’t located any IR mines in the Strait either. The actual history of this conflict is going to be a helluva story.

Ah, my favorite kind of Night Cafe... Howard, I was wondering if you were still doing your pond swims since you hadn't mentioned them in quite a while. There's both an athletic and an aesthetic aspect to them that I enjoy. I appreciate both and consider both in my solo pursuits as well.

And, tcrosse, thanks for bringing back memories of Trans-Canada railway adventures. So many great rolling sights and conversations.

GoSpace: enjoy Sanibel! I prefer Captiva but Sanibel is friendly to a larger party in terms of available places. Back in 2014 I spent a week in Captiva with a woman I had been dating off and on for quite a while. We got back to Jupiter and two weeks later, I gifted her with a $2000 diamond cross. She's not Irish, but I got the Irish goodbye: I never heard from her again.

I contracted two surgical infections from my last hip replacement 8 years ago. I've been on one (or more) antibiotics ever since. High dose Keflex is the ongoing med.

Zero UTIs or URIs in that time. I do take a potent probiotic though. The last year or so I've been queasy after eating food, and my stools have been watery, which make day to day miserable. I started eating unpasteurized sauerkraut, a brand called Bubbies (forget normal grocery store Kraut, it's pasteurized), and what a game changer. "Bubbies sauerkraut is naturally fermented and contains live probiotics that support gut health, though it is not raw. It's made from high-quality cabbage, water, and salt, and undergoes natural fermentation that encourages the growth of beneficial bacteria, particularly lactic acid bacteria (LAB), which are key probiotics for gut health. These probiotics help crowd out harmful bacteria, restore a balanced gut microbiome, and support digestion and immunity. Unlike pasteurized or vinegar-based sauerkraut, Bubbies preserves these live cultures by avoiding full pasteurization, using a unique heating process that slows fermentation without killing the probiotics."

Just a couple/three tablespoons a day. Problems gone.

So during my run and church this morning, I had another idea for my Jesus Musical: Joakim Broden of Sabaton as (Jesus) Barabbas.

I want to be the first production that treats the Barabbas episode not as a literal part of the story, but as what it probably is: an allegory that, through the telephone game of oral history, accidentally got turned into part of the events.

For those of you unfamiliar with this interpretation, Bar-Abbas can be translated as 'Son of the father.' And some manuscripts give him the first name Jesus. Which was one of the most common first-century Jewish names, so the gospel writers can be forgiven for thinking he was an actual guy. So the whole keep-JC-free-Barabbas thing means that when you kill the man Jesus of Nazareth, you unleash Jesus the Son of the Father. This interpretation also gives the Jewish crowd a break as it puts a kinder spin on their cry "Give us Barabbas!"

I would emphasize the allegorical interpretation with some stage trickery; like maybe Barabbas disappears as soon as Pilate frees him. And maybe he shows up right after JC's death, to do things like tear the Temple curtain or pull the 500 out of their graves; these are things the unleashed Second Person of the Trinity does. And maybe he's the Ascension version of JC, if I take the book that far.

Probably any producers would just reject this as too weird. CC, JSM

The Bar-Abbas actor could also play the Transfigured version of Jesus, if I take the book that far back. This way the audience knows exactly who he is when he shows up at the praetorium. CC, JSM

Excited to watch, I ran BOSTON 4x in 2000,2001 2003 and 2004(87 degrees on course not ideal for good times) Family lived in Boston and Marblehead Mass so getting to park to load up was easy.over 1000 people went to medical tents in 2004(didn't pay attention to heat)and many DNF'S you can't fool around with that distance. Champs are back and these fellas are amazing. Boston is the only major Marathon where you have to qualify with an age graded time, After 2004 I just never put in the effort and time to get to the condition I needed to requalify. There is no other feeling then coming down that stretch on boylston street AFTER WATCHING THE citgo sign that seemed like it never got closer for last mile or so. Much different than New York Marathon (97 and 2000) cold November windy and big(30000 plus ) Miss those days but will never forget either course but preferred Boston.Good luck runners,be safe and hydrate,(you never know weather at that time of year )

This is the 130th edition of the Boston Athletic Association (BAA) Boston Marathon, and it arrives with one of the most compelling elite matchups in recent memory: defending champion John Korir returns to Hopkinton to face Benson Kipruto, the four-time Major winner who wants the title back, while Sharon Lokedi lines up to defend a course record many thought would stand for years.
The field of over 32,000 runners, drawn from more than 130 countries and all 50 U.S. states, will take on 26.2 miles from the town green in Hopkinton to Copley Square in Boston. Some are chasing podiums. Some are chasing course records. Most are chasing something more personal.

Also just thought of this: a Persian emperor as a Greek chorus (hee hee) for exposition. Kind of like G3’s interludes. Score him to middle eastern pop similar to Ofra Haza or Umm Khartoum.

That will definitely drive producers up the wall. “What does Persia have to do with the Bible!?” Oh, glad you asked….CC, JSM
