"At its core, fentanyl is a supply-driven problem. Problem is, local efforts have relied on demand-reduction strategies..."

"... believing they alone will address the problem. For example, we offer treatment to people addicted to towering levels of fentanyl, only to be surprised when they refuse. Declining fentanyl supplies offers a chance for demand-reduction strategies to work, as they apparently did for that woman in Salt Lake City.... Public health officials who want to give their demand-reduction strategies a chance to work need to think of this as a supply-driven crisis...."

From "Overdose deaths are plummeting. Here’s what worked. Efforts to disrupt the supply of fentanyl are paying off. We cannot back down" (WaPo).

So the WaPo publishes an op ed praising aggressive law enforcement. What are they up to? Can't just take this at face value. Is it part of a Sistah Souljah turn for the Dems just in time for the midterms? Or is Bezos sending Trump an I'm-still-with-you message? Or do the Dems realize they need a powerful police state when they get back in power? My Pravda decoder ring is rusty. CC, JSM

It’s physical addiction. That stupid movie Traffic wasted almost two generations of lives and hundreds of US billions in wasted monetary value. You need to separate the addict from the drug. That’s why we had David Crosby and Jerry Garcia with us for so long…

…It encouraging to hear WaPo admit what works. Unfortunately the liberal mind won’t allow the idea to take hold. Watch the extensive and relentless attack on this type of thinking…

It’s a valid reaction. I don’t know the motive either but can speculate the ignorant amongst them stumbled upon the conclusion by accident while they were fighting policies to reduce supply. It could also mean the think tanks see the flow of billions/trillions in US Treasury funds may not be restored with the next election as handily as they hoped and they’re being forced to address blue city problems they had no intention of stopping….

Did the WaPo give Trump ANY credit for slowing the flow of Fentanyl by closing the border and blowing up drug-running boats, or is that too much to ask?

tastid212 કહ્યું...

Putting a crimp in the fentanyl supply chain not only helps American addicts, it also reduces cash flow to cartels and China. It should be a win-win but the wrong guy is responsible...

Refresh my memory, WaPo. When and how did fentanyl supplies "decline" exactly?

"Refresh my memory, WaPo. When and how did fentanyl supplies "decline" exactly?"

The article credits the Biden administration with starting a policy that the Trump administration is continuing. That's how I read this: "Jake Braun, former homeland security adviser during the Biden administration, recounts this story in his book “Fentanyl: Fighting the Mass Poisoning of America and the Cartel Behind It.” This strategy continued during the Trump administration."

Mike (MJB Wolf) કહ્યું...

So it is myth-building right in front of our eyes. Or to be kind, "narrative reinforcement." That is, every success can be traced to progressive ideas and every failure is 100% Trump's fault. Rinse and repeat.

I'm sure the comments over there are lit!

Just the latest in the ongoing series "Why Would Anyone Ever Trust Anything They Read in The Washington Post?"

Every success of the Trump administration was initially started by Biden. This is a very winning strategy of the DNC for sure. It's the logical evolution of the metoo initiative.

Lazarus કહ્યું...

Does anybody really want fentanyl? Isn't it just added to other drugs or substituted for them by cartels and dealers?

Bushman of the Kohlrabi કહ્યું...

So maybe taking control of our border back from the drug cartels wasn’t such a bad idea after all?

Wait. Trump was right?!

Trump closed the border that Biden opened.

Fortunately, none on the Left are embracing Mao's anti-narcotic program, which was to put a bullet in the head of the addict. Yet. For Addiction. Soon, if they could get away with it, for Trumpism.

Fentanyl is the opium war payback

Says the guy with a vested interest in claiming credit. What policy is he referring to? Biden certainly didn't secure the border; he did the opposite.

Josephbleau કહ્યું...

Fentanyl is similar to the opium trade except that 95% approx of the trade was from Britain. There were many old family New England families in the Opium trade, Boston Brahmins who traded slaves and opium while preaching that they were God’s elect, as they still do.

Warren Delano Jr., grandfather of Franklin Roosevelt, made money in the China trade, including opium.

Mike (MJB Wolf) કહ્યું...

The cartels got a huge boom in border business for the huge bribes they paid Biden. And nothing slowed the fentanyl imports until Trump closed the border.

Biff કહ્યું...

Like homelessness, an entire industry has sprung up around managing drug addiction -- sorry, I meant the politically correct "substance use disorders" -- rather than focusing on mitigating or heaven forbid, actually resolving cases. If reducing fentanyl supply is the most successful path to treatment, you can expect the professional "advocates" to oppose it with every fiber of their wallets.
