AND: May I recommend a movie double feature, both involving visitation by large rabbits: "Harvey" and "Donnie Darko"?How is a person supposed to tell if they are having a psychotic break or not these days?

Nothing to see here. Move along. It's just a scene from Donnie Darko (2001).
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0246578/
Apparently, Marco Rubio had to play the Easter bunny at the White House.
My review of Harvey (1950)
This is like a horror story of this delusional drunk man played by Jimmy Stewart, who has an invisible giant rabbit friend that only he can see. I think it's supposed to be a comedy or a kid's movie or some damn thing. Scared the crap out of me. Put him in a straightjacket, that was my reaction. Lock his drunk ass up. It's like Otis, the Movie. And we're supposed to take his side and hate all the sober people who can't see the giant invisible rabbit. But I can't see the giant invisible rabbit, either. There is no giant invisible rabbit, you damn drunk bastard. Sober your ass up. Go to rehab. You have officially lost your mind. And even if you want to say there really is a giant invisible rabbit, fine. It's the most boring (bleep) giant invisible (bleep) rabbit I've ever seen in my life. The rabbit does nothing. Nothing. Man, I hate that invisible rabbit.
Psychotic water-rabbit attacked Jimmy Carter, Easter Bunny joins this president and First Lady on the balcony.
Progress.
Trump is talking to us, the bunny is just standing there. Trump never faces the bunny.
So Peter Hague is lying.
I suspect the rabbit is on purpose just to annoy the right people.
Apparently the Deputy Sports Minister is now in charge. Not the sports minister, his assistant.
President Trump may be telling him "talk to the bunny"
Seems about rigjt
John Henry
But everyone can see pdjt's bunny. Not invisible at all, St croix
John Henry
Trump is talking to us, the bunny is just standing there. Trump never faces the bunny.
So Peter Hague is lying.
Where did Hague say Trump was talking to the rabbit? He said the "big rabbit [was] listening". You think that is normal behavior for what is supposed to be an Easter celebration?
Donnie Darko is great, by the way.
"I'm voting for Dukakis."
Alice in Wonderland had a white rabbit. Jefferson Airplane sang about a White Rabbit. This one is brown -- I suppose out of respect for the Artemis crew and their broken toilet.
Freder - How would you or Peter know if the Rabbit was listening? You can't hear anything in that get up.
You leftists are so offended... all day all night.
Does Freder think he knows whether the "big rabbit" is listening?
Rule One: Make no assumptions about someone wearing a rabbit suit.
Media: "Critics say..." (whine whine whine)
Trump: "I don't care about critics"
Trump is a walking middle finger and I'm OK with that.
Rubio was totally fine with all of it.

"I am bleeding my pockets dry paying astronomical prices for a half broken internet connection just to read what the outside world is saying. And let me be honest, it is absolutely infuriating to see how completely disconnected so many of you are from the actual mood of the people inside Iran.
Do not lose your nerve. Do not be afraid.
The narrative you are seeing right now is a complete illusion.
The voices currently being amplified online are fake, manipulated, and engineered by the cyber army of this cannibalistic regime.
They have locked us in a digital prison and severed our connection to the world specifically so they can control the narrative and project a false sense of fear and submission.
We are not cowering in the dark. We are watching a dying terrorist syndicate thrash in its final days.
Do not judge the resolve of the Iranian people based on the fabricated noise of our captors. Wait until these walls come down. Wait until this internet blackout is broken and you can finally hear the unfiltered, undeniable roar of a nation that has been stripped to the bone.
You will see exactly what an unstoppable force looks like.
Hold the line. Level the playing field and we will finish the job."
One day, Maggie Gyllenhaal will be a Republican.
Again:
"We are not cowering in the dark. We are watching a dying terrorist syndicate thrash in its final days."
Poor Poor Poor Tucker.
How would you or Peter know if the Rabbit was listening? You can't hear anything in that get up.
You started this stupid conversation. He was obviously being sarcastic about the surrealism of discussing the war while standing next to the Easter Bunny.
Of course you will come back and say "how do we know it is the Easter Bunny?"
Sheesh!
Freder - of course it's an Easter Bunny.
Will Poor Peter Hague get over his grief about what the Bunny heard?
Republican outreach to Furries?
I wish we had the technology to push a button, and the bunny's head becomes a drone-bomb with super-sonic speed - zipping across the earth on its way to blow up an Islamic supremacist goat fucking/women subjugating male terrorist who once burned humans alive in cages.
“You think that is normal behavior for what is supposed to be an Easter celebration?”
Spare me your theatrics.
“then they came for all the theatre kids and I said make sure you take all of them.”
"Easter eggs" is a euphemism.
That rabbit probably scares the crap out of the mullahs.
My shrink says it's just a sprain.
A padded cell with sex toys is all they need.
Freder - of course it's an Easter Bunny.
I said "the" Easter Bunny, not "an" Easter Bunny. Maybe it is just someone in a bunny costume.

Im always in awe of Jimmy Stewart. What range. Romance when young. Older Tough guy in westerns and war movies. Comedy always.
Tucker had a more serious response to Trump's crazed Easter Message of war and death. Hopefully, Trump is going to become sane and get us out of this mess. If not, its going to be a long 2.5 years.
Now I know why they called the movie "Darko."
Freder Frederson said...You think that is normal behavior for what is supposed to be an Easter celebration?
Everything you say and everything you do is to some degree completely unique in the history of the universe. Stop whining that Trump is different. We elected him to be different.
If you can't articulate why it's wrong and instead need to impotently cry "it's different!," then just stay out of it.
Tim Maguire - indeed.
leftists endlessly whine and moan about Trump - yet they all supported Biden and Kamala. Two obvious clueless loyalist puppets. That is strange.
Freder - "The" Easter Bunny is not possible. Bonus - Santa is dead.
MSNOW (D-joke) is just a parade of paid leftist misfits whining about how abnormal Trump is.
It's no ordinary rabbit, it's the most foul, cruel, and bad-tempered rodent you ever set eyes on. It's a killer!
Go ask Alice
When she's ten feet tall
And if you go chasing rabbits
And you know you're going to fall
Tell them a hookah-Smoking caterpillar
Has given you the call
Call Alice when she was just small
When the men on the chess board get up and tell you where to go
It's actually quite appropriate since the Easter bunny is a symbol of our great pagan roots and we are now engaged in a holy war to defeat our monotheistic enemies.
That here is one of them Medieval war rabbits. That's what that is. They inhabit the margins but were known to be very violent.
"Tim: Look, that rabbit's got a vicious streak a mile wide! It's a killer!
Sir Galahad: Get stuffed!
Tim: He'll do you up a treat, mate."
Killer rabbits (and snails) were a thing in medieval manuscripts -- long before the concept was borrowed by Monty Python.

More than the Rose Montoya video.
RCOCEAN II: come back from the dark side. The company’s way better here and we have cookies.
A lot of psychotic breaking recently by leftist women. Esp if Trump, MAGA, etc are mentioned nearby.
We saw a video yesterday by a psychiatrist (Hannah Spier, MD) who blamed much of it on detachment disorder, esp with their mothers. Overtatooing and a lot of piercings, at least in the past, suggests self harm, and this sort of dysfunctional, psychotic behavior. Unfortunately, Overtatooing has become mainstream enough that it no longer is a reliable indicator that a woman doing that is primed and ready to go off on you. Still, they tend to be grossly over represented in single leftist women.

It's all just marketing, folks. Here's the deal behind all of his artifice:
President Donald Trump’s sons, Eric and Donald Trump Jr., have recently expanded their investments into several drone and defense technology companies, most notably Powerus Corporation and Unusual Machines.
Powerus Corporation (Anti-Drone Interceptors)
Powerus is a defense startup that produces "interceptor" drones—defensive aircraft specifically designed to target and shoot down enemy suicide drones.

Ownership & Investment: In March 2026, Eric and Donald Trump Jr. were announced as notable investors in a deal to take Powerus public through a "reverse merger" with Aureus Greenway Holdings Inc., a golf course operator already listed on the Nasdaq.
Activity: The company is currently demonstrating its technology to Gulf states, such as the UAE, to help defend against Iranian drone attacks. It also recently launched the Guardian-1, an interceptor drone designed to counter suicide drones like the Iranian Shahed-136.
Executive Ties: The brothers serve as advisors for Dominari Securities, the investment bank brokering the merger.

The Trump sons have stakes in several other firms within the domestic drone and defense sector:
Unusual Machines Inc.: Donald Trump Jr. is a shareholder and sits on the advisory board of this Florida-based drone-parts manufacturer. The company has already secured contracts with the U.S. Army to provide thousands of drone motors.
Xtend: Eric Trump made a strategic investment in this Israeli-American company, which developed an AI-driven operating system for drones. Xtend recently secured a multi-million dollar Department of Defense contract.
Anduril Industries: Donald Trump Jr.’s venture capital firm, 1789 Capital, holds a major stake in this defense technology firm, which specializes in autonomous unmanned combat systems.

Donny Darko -- You'll come for the incomprehensibility. You'll stay for the strange Dukakophilia. Or more likely, you won't stay.
I could sort of understand if they thought (rightly or wrongly) that Gore would have been preferable to Bush II, but the idea that picking Bush I over Dukakis brought on the apocalypse or the new Dark Age is preposterous.
It's not just liberal women, Bruce. You people gobble up more of the mental health pharma than the blue counties
Key Findings on Mental Health Diagnosis and Medication Usage:
Higher Prescription Rates in Specific Areas: High-intensity prescription medication use for mental health (e.g., benzodiazepines) is more prevalent in high-intensity (often rural and Republican-leaning) counties, particularly in Appalachia and south-central states.
Rural (Red) vs. Urban (Blue) Differences: The percentage of adults taking medication for mental health increases as the place of residence becomes more rural—from 14.8% in large metropolitan areas (often blue) to 19.7% in nonmetropolitan areas (often red).
Diagnosis Rates and Access: While the need for mental health treatment is similar between urban and rural settings, adults in rural areas (red counties) often receive mental health treatment less frequently due to reduced access to providers.
PubMed Central (PMC) (.gov)
PubMed Central (PMC) (.gov)
+3
Factors Influencing the Divide:
Political Self-Reporting: Studies have found that while conservatives often report better mental health than liberals, this may be due to higher stigma around the term "mental health" in conservative areas, leading to inflated self-reporting.
Unmet Needs: Republicans (often in red counties) with depressive symptoms are significantly less likely to have sought help from a mental health professional in the past year compared to Democrats.
Environmental Factors: Rural areas often face greater socioeconomic challenges (poverty, unemployment) that are associated with higher mental health distress, even if those illnesses go under-diagnosed or under-treated compared to urban areas.
Partisan Stress: Studies indicate that political polarization can increase stress, anxiety, and depression, particularly for individuals who live in areas where they are part of the political minority, such as Republicans in urban areas or Democrats in rural areas.

In summary, although residents of "red" (rural) counties often report higher rates of certain prescription medication usage and have higher rates of mental health issues, they also face more barriers to receiving a formal diagnosis and treatment, resulting in higher rates of unmet mental health needs compared to "blue" (urban) counties.

First we had Bad Bunny at the Superbowl and now this. The surviving, 2nd and 3rd rate mullahs are questioning everything they thought they knew about America and Americans.
Mullahs: "WTF? What's with the bunnies?"
Advisors: "I don't know! This is new. Trump...I don't know. Maybe crazy. Maybe the furries have more clout than we thought. I don't know."
Howard - you actually think we buy that?
According to my sources, Trump will soon publish a photo from the dark side of the moon that shows Artemis II has discovered the moon is populated by huge, mullah-eating, infidel moon rabbits and he will announce plans to air drop large numbers of breeding pairs on Iran as soon as Artemis gets back, if the mullahs don't surrender power to the people.
Only the creepy vile left would tie political affiliations with medical info - which is supposed to be private.
That's how we know its garbage.
Discussion of famous rabbits remains incomplete without a nod to The Rabbit of Caerbannog, famous for violently eliminating several kniggets of the Round Table in Monty Python and the Holy Grail. What can one say? Tim warned them.
Howard and his “you people” horseshit. You can fuck right off with that, Skippy.
'Harvey' one of the best, if not the best, movies ever.
Jimmy Stewart...genius.
You people can't handle the truth. Your denial that there is a mental health crisis in red counties is exactly what the AI Gemini response says. Right leaning people believe it is a sign of weakness and so therefore they are in total denial over this problem.
For you people it's only okay to cite anecdotal incidents of crazy left wing women who put their mental illness on full display in public on video.
Howard, red people aren't the ones filming their mental breakdowns on tiktok. They aren't the ones losing their jobs for threatening to paralyze people in the ER. They aren't the ones dancing on Charlie Kirk's grave. They aren't the ones attempting to run over federal agents and then being outraged that said feds were using "real" bullets LOL.
The very last thing you want is for this country to tighten up its definition of poor mental health. Because about a third of "you people " would be involuntarily committed.
And BTW, assuming a "red" county goes 60-30 for Trump, where do you get off assuming its the 60% that your "studies" are talking about?
Southland tales was a real freakout
I've actually done this kind of analysis and more often than not, the nutjobs are Red 52 - Blue 48. And in the group next door its Blue 51- Red 49. The difference doesn't even breach the margin of error.
And on that note, here's Cray Cray Anya with in depth analysis of the Evil Bunny sharing Trump's taunting of Iranian leadership:

Now that I know a little bit more about the people's world, I think I need to watch it again. See how it might square up with my world and who's people in it. I don't think I have people. I'm unlucky that way. Suddenly Barbra pops in. That's my my queue to finish this comment.
It must really suck to be anti-Trump. Not only the constant frustration of dialing up your temper tantrums only to still be ignored, but to see Trump supporters having so much fun with his latest troll.

Howard - You buy lies.
Why just the other day you insisted that the Art movement known as Impressionism - was a result of photography.
NO. YOU are 100% wrong.
You have to give Trump a little leeway here. He called one of his first Lids, in order to closely monitor the rescue of the F15E WSO. SO, The Dems start the rumor that he was dead. Just because he had called the Lid.
Something interesting there was that the military (esp AF) had their contingency plans ready to go. But there were risks, dangers, and .complications. But then a one word text/email dropped. It said simply “Go”. And was sent by someone with the handle of SECWAR. Everything else is history.
So, my partner’s Ex has almost a half section farm/ranch 5 miles down river from our house in MT. 4 kids between them in maybe a 4 year span. so, one year, when they were still pretty young, they talked their mother into getting them bunnies for Easter. She found a breeder, and he assured her that they were all boys. Nope. Turns out there were 3 girls and one boy. And one day, later in the year, her ex called her name. They were popping up all over the firm (likely just after a cutting of hay and alfalfa). Told her to take the kids indoors. And with his father, took them out from the porch. He claimed over 100. It was for the girls’ sake that he wanted them indoors. The two boys thought that it would have been great fun. None of the bunnies were ever found, since they had a local troop of coyotes that probably gorged that night.
"You people can't handle the truth"
This still annoys me. Great actor but there's no way a Marine Colonel who came up through the Victor Units would lose his bearing like that. He would have been weeded out as a Captain from the stress of commanding a Company. Would have been passed over for Battalion Command (Major).
The XO, Lt Col Markinson, is not going to commit suicide over failing Santiago. That's a coward's way out to avoid enduring the shame of his poor leadership. Furthermore, he's not going to compound his sin by denying Dawson and Downey discovery that backs up their testimony. Stupid plot hole - he's so distraught about not standing up for one his Marines that he's going to throw two more under the bus?
Lt Kendrick, the Platoon Commander is a bigoted stereotype of a Christian redneck. Typical Hollywood, I'm surprised he didn't annoint himself by handling rattlesnakes, hallelujah! And where is the Platoon Sgt? He's the one who's a hardass. The Platoon Commander (Kendrick) usually plays the merciful father-figure that you hate to disappoint. Did they even bother to research the dynamics of an Infantry unit?
A locked on Marine like Dawson is not going to suddenly turn shtbird by stuffing his hands in his pockets and refuse to salute an officer (ignoring the fact that we don't salute uncovered or indoors). His salute at the end is even more ignorant - we don't salute based on who we think is "worthy".
Downey represents the ignorant bigotry that infantry Marines are retarded. I was an 0313 with a 135 IQ. People confuse courage with stupidity because they can't imagine why anyone in their right mind would charge a machine gun nest. Because they are pussies who don't understand honor.
The only authentic portrayal of a Marine is the Corporal testifying about how he found the chowhall.
Stupid movie.
Well it was sorkins invention,
Bunnies don’t make very good pets. They eat, shit (which stinks) and would have a lot of sex and little bunnies if they could (see above). Growing up, ours lasted less than six months before we got rid of it. Ditto the four for her kids. Except for hers growing up. She taught it to walk on a leash, and called him “Hippity Hoppidy”. Unfortunately, it got out and disappeared one day. I expect that one of the larger dogs in the neighborhood had a treat that night. Bunnies are great fun for dogs. Our small dog goes crazy when he sees one. Luckily, he’s on a leash, and isn’t really big enough to catch one.
For her, naming her bunny Just made losing him harder. And then her daughter came along. Pigs make much better pets than bunnies. She named hers “Spot”. Everyone earned not to name future meals. She insisted, and did it anyway. Then, it was Spot’s time to contribute. Mother distracted her, while her father snuck her out, and to the butcher. And that night, when the entree was served. Her siblings chanted together”here comes spot”. And for the next several months whenever they ate pork products. She was warned not to name the food, and this was why.
"Well it was sorkins invention,"
Really? That makes it even worse. I consider him to be a genius. He just dialed it in. SMH
Okay April here goes. I said impressionism was not due to photography. It was in response to photography. Traditional realistic painting could not compete with photography anymore. With the Advent of tubed paint which came about 20 years after the invention of photography, people were able to then paint outdoors on scene while conveniently carrying vibrant colors in tubes in which protected the paint from drying out and made fine art portable into nature.
This allowed realism to take a new step into impressionism, which was a way to capture the light that human beings see in nature and far outstrip the ability of photography.
You might know this if you actually were an artist and actually painted on scene en plein Aire as the French say. The human eye has a much higher capacity for seeing color and value differences in real life that are virtually impossible to capture, even with modern photography.
Go ahead and do some googling and you will find thousands of articles written about how impressionism was the way free market entrepreneurs who happen to be artists were able to compete with the new technology of photography.
Alexisa: I can't argue because I have actually never seen the movie. I am only aware of the quote which I believe is quite true. Office pogues have no concept of what ground truth is. I do disagree with your assessment that Sorkin is a genius. I think he is hugely talented and is extremely ambitious, but I always found his writing style to be evocative of a pothead evoking their pipe dreams through characters dialogue.
Oh yeah and check out my avatar that was painted by me about 20 odd years ago in a plein Air painting class from a field in the coastal town of Los Osos near San Luis Obispo. The fact that photography helped to motivate artists to invent impressionism was common knowledge in the profession back then.

But I just asked Chat to find me the Johns Hopkins study indicating that people in "red" areas use more antidepressants, for instance, then people in "blue" areas. I may have mistaken your citation - Chat indicated that there is no such Johns Hopkins study. There is, however, a Johns Hopkins study that indicates that although incidence of depression appears to be pretty constant across the political spectrum, people on the left are more likely to be medicated for it - which the study suggests may have to do with stigma or availability of providers. And then it listed other studies that did eventually attempt to tie depression to political affiliation.
I'd like to propose a counter-explanation for the apparent lower frequency of antidepressant use in so-called "red" areas. I propose it because it's true of me and a number of my conservative friends. We get depressed. Sometimes we get pretty profoundly depressed, and it lasts quite a while. But we accept that sometimes life is depressing, and we also tend to use other tools, such as church or community involvement, to "get out of our own heads" - recognizing that sometimes an external focus is more helpful than rumination.
Do I sound judgy? I probably am, a little, because there are people in my life whom I love dearly who believe that there is no treatment for their depression other than drugs, and the side effects are pretty bad. I would far rather see these people employ cognitive behavior therapy, outside involvement, even just spending more time outside and exercising more, to see if these far less invasive actions can give them relief.
I'm depressed right now. My dog is dying, my life is in flux, my husband is fairly newly retired and we are about to embark on travels that will isolate us for many months. I'm hoping to use my feelings, which are real and inescapable, in my writing, rekindling my interest in my third, long-stalled novel, and also to leverage my need for continuing physical therapy for my knee replacements such that I end up exercising outdoors for considerable time each day. I far prefer this approach to popping a pill.
I should add that one of the studies that Chat led me to pointed out the huge increase in self-reports of depression, even without a firm diagnosis. Given what we've seen some psychologists, notably gender specialists, do with extremely loose diagnoses, I wouldn't be at all surprised to find that it's very easy to get an antidepressant prescription simply by asking for one.
Antidepressant use is higher in rural areas. High in WV, KY, IA, NE, ID, UT, also high in VT, NH, ME. It may have to do with the loneliness of older people in relatively isolated communities. Statistics may be different for children and young people. I thought Utah was highest (alcohol a no-no), but that information is out of date.
Trends start in the cities, burn out, and go to the countryside to die. I doubt rural areas were early adopters of antidepressants.
Nice post Jamie. Glad to have you back. Anxiety and depression are real conditions that can afflict anybody of any political stripe. I think it's important to remember with these studies that they are really not science. They just use scientific methods to get an answer with fairly wide error bars.
I'm one of the lucky ones. I don't get depressed. I might feel blue once in awhile. I've almost never experienced any anxiety. I don't think it has anything to do with me or what I have done. I think I was born this way.
Now in the past I have had severe anger issues. I have been able to calm that down mostly because I have been focusing on stimulating my vagal nervous system. There are a lot of ways to do it. I think getting outdoor in nature, especially in a forest with significant canopy, is a huge mitigator of anxiety and depression in addition, it helps to boost your immune system.
Deep breathing exercises are extremely valuable. Although he's a bit of a quack and a bunch of people have died stupidly doing some of his exercises in water like he specifically recommends against doing, the methods of Wim Hof are very sound and stimulating for the rest and digest half of the autonomic nervous system. This will cause your body to create endogenous mental and physical health medicine, including: acetylcholine (ACh) to activate anti-inflammatory pathways. It also triggers the release of neurotransmitters that regulate mood, cognition, and stress, including norepinephrine, serotonin (5-HT), gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), and dopamine.

Proper gut health is what produces the right type of short chain fatty acids that act as the trigger chemicals of the important neurotransmitters.
I think one aspect of getting control of your life and your habits in order to make yourself function more like a properly evolved. Human being also helps reduce anxiety and depression by making you more confident in your ability to navigate the world.
The person in the bunny costume is there to remind us that Trump is liberating Iranian women from having to cover their bodies almost entirely with headscarfs and long coats. Plus, the full clip may show that he is responding to a reporter's question, though I canonly surmise from the video clip. They do this with him often.
Howard: when the bubble you live in is thick enough, you can project mental problems on others. You can take pleasure in being cruel, narcisstic, and dishonest. It doesn't mean you're in touch with reality or otherwise sane. Also, we have liberal cities in the Red South crawling with dysfunction. I don't think the CDC or any other government-funded research is free of bias. Places are carefully selected and carefully represented to reflect badly on Red States. The CDC and NIH and NIAID do have real scientists. They're not who make headlines. They're not whom MAHA is culling. The propagandists and mission-creep people need to go. I've worked with the CDC on public health grants and written several more. There's tons of waste that could be put to real scientific research. Your citations are academic-advancement crap. Again, I recommend the book, The Gravest Show on Earth, a deep dive into the politics that harm our provision services.
“But I just asked Chat to find me the Johns Hopkins study indicating that people in "red" areas use more antidepressants, for instance, then people in "blue" areas.”
Saw a study last night that directly contradicts this. Depression was 20% higher on the left, by sex. Worst for female leftists. We are talking maybe 20% higher, which is more than statistically significant.

It's also possible to get shunted into spam by the machine. We try to keep an eye on that and release the miscaught good stuff. We do delete some comments, but not for viewpoint... for bad faith.
