And I would say exactly the opposite, that for the sake of our country, we should stay out of resource wars, especially ones on the other side of the globe, and the "Islamic problem" will take care of itself!
Maybe we should stop using terrorist proxies to gin up pretexts for wars, "for the sake of our country" I have already given ample documentation that Jimmy Carter formed the Taliban by funding, training, and arming them, through Pakistan. The 9-11 terrorists were mostly from our "regional ally" the Saudis.
It is well known that the Shah, whom we installed in a coup against his father, in order to gain control of their oil, was a brutal dictator. Here is a search term for you: "SAVAK Israel" Here is the AI overview:
SAVAK was the brutal secret police of Iran's Shah (1957–1979), established with CIA and Israeli Mossad assistance to eliminate opposition. Mossad trained SAVAK agents and helped build Iran's intelligence apparatus, forming a strong, covert alliance based on mutual regional interests before the 1979 Revolution.
Key Aspects of SAVAK-Israel Relations (Pre-1979): Establishment & Training: Founded in 1957, SAVAK (Organization for Intelligence and National Security) received training from the Israeli Mossad, acting as a regional ally in intelligence-sharing. Cooperation: The two agencies collaborated closely, as both were interested in monitoring regional threats to their regimes.
Failed Offer: In 1978, as the Shah's regime faced collapse, Israeli officials including Moshe Dayan met with SAVAK head Nematollah Nassiri, offering assistance to control rising unrest, though the offer was dismissed as unnecessary by the Iranian side. <<[This is what necrosis means when he sais that the Shah should have been tougher.]
Reputation: SAVAK was infamous for torture, surveillance, and repression of dissidents.
After the 1979 Revolution, SAVAK was dissolved, and the relationship with Israel turned into deep enmity.
The hate comes from not knowing history, not knowing history is forgivable, but if you are going to spew hate for a billion people, you should probably think about familiarizing yourself with the issue.
The hate comes from raw, primal tribalism. This applies to every group in history and the tensions get worse when each side claims to have "the truth" or there's an economic conflict. As Islam followed Christianity in time and claims ideological superiority, tension (or hate) is unavoidable.
It doesn't help that Christians were invaded and taken into slavery (e.g., Moors; Janissaries), nor that Christians invaded the Middle East during the Crusades.
Jim @ 11:19, reality may not be all that welcomed here but that “47 years of doing nothing” framing skips a lot of history. The U.S. has sanctioned, fought naval battles with, and negotiated with Iran for decades. In 2015 there was an agreement that limited Iran’s enrichment and allowed international inspections. Trump withdrew from that agreement in 2018.
Given the Iraq WMD experience, it’s understandable that people question whether military action is the only option.
The “what if we did nothing” will remain an unknown. Whatever fallout including $5 a gallon gas, Trump did that, all on his own.

Who could have possibly anticipated that?
How could Trump and his military launched this war without thinking through how to keep the Straits of Hormuz open? It just seems so basic.
Would find it absolutely hilarious if, once this is all over, Iran says that any ship connected to or delivering to any nation sanctioning it has to pay a transit surcharge or banned altogether. That would possibly be a better long term strategy for their security and prosperity than chasing a nuclear bomb.

We can speculate all we want about the Strait, of course, but we really don’t know enough in the battlefield to have even a hint of an informed opinion wrt what is obviously going to happen.
My Islamophobia is about the foothold Islam is gaining in the US, and wrt what we’ve witnessed happened in other western or Christian nations. Islam is not compatible with the US Constitution and it needs to be rebuffed thoroughly and decisively here. Islam being here isn’t a reaction to our presence elsewhere. It’s an ideology that wants to own the entire world.

Unfortunately the rest of the world doesn’t just immediately go to peace mode just because we’re not exploiting their resources. Trump is trying to bring the Gulf to a relatively soft landing by making Persia a non threat. While also defeating Chinese attempts at sea lane control.

Unfortunately the rest of the world doesn’t just immediately go to peace mode just because we’re not exploiting their resources. Trump is trying to bring the Gulf to a relatively soft landing by making Persia a non threat. While also defeating Chinese attempts at sea lane control.
Just like Michael Corleone, he has to close out existing family business before he can move forward. And no there is no Godfather III in the Trump canon. CC, JSM
Am I comparing him to a gangster? Yes. Countries are gangs. The best we can hope for is to be born into the dominant gang, and to have decent rules within the gang. CC, JSM
After Day 1 of this debacle, all the MAGA neocons were talking about Trump liberating the Iranian people, installing a new pro-US leader, liberating women from oppression, seizing all their uranium. Not many of those posts 11 days later.
Yesterday: The UN Security Council has adopted a Bahrain-led resolution on the escalating crisis in the Middle East.
RESULT
In Favor: 13
Against: 0
Abstain: 2 (China and Russia)
Every Gulf Arab nation, plus 135 co-sponsors (a UN record), has now formally condemned Iran. Quite amazing.
Oil tanker burning in the straits of hormuz this morning...
Wake up, America.
These lines are primarily due to panic buying ahead of a significant nationwide fuel price hike.
Ah, you've repeated the China propaganda talking points. How unoriginal for a commie-commenter. Assuming your false facts were correct, pray tell WHY are they expecting such a large "fuel price hike" genius?
Because again: we aren't. Patriots will happily pay 50 cents per gallon more for a couple weeks. Np "panic" here. Except from your side of course.
More in the hope and change dept:
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz speaking at The World Economic Forum called the EU a "complete failure."
He said, "Germany & Europe have wasted incredible potential. We have become the world champion of over-regulation & zero growth."
We have become the world champion of over-regulation & zero growth.
…admitting you have a problem is a good first step, though bon chance getting the union cornucopia crowd to admit it. Not your only problem, either- keep going with the list…
Gas is still less than three dollars per gallon here. Where is all this $5.00 gas - California?
’Thanks Beast, not sure how long I’ll be tolerated or for that matter, how much of the cultish suck up I myself can tolerate.’
I certainly understand and will, nonetheless, savor your charm…
@Althouse: Check out the Como Brothers’ cover of ‘Nowhere Man’ featuring Tori Holub on lead vocals - wow!!
$5.89/gal for diesel #2; $4.85 for premium unleaded in NorCal.
RJWard Cleaver is a tired husk.
There’s $5.80 regular unleaded in South Lake Tahoe. Amongst the captives is there still the assumption of as CA goes so goes the nation?
Ironically, Obama's Iran-Hamas Affair is in progress to be aborted.
California is a Green blight, not limited to LA where Bass brays with a DEIst cacophony.
Jim at at 11:19 PM- Well said.
The "steak and lobster" (link to Instapundit) rage-bait story seems to have its origin in a couple of firms that lost their DOD monopoly food supply contracts during DOGE. If you have X, you'll find an interesting connection in the comments to the original X post with n.n.'s comment here at 9:50 AM (hint - both firms were located in a particular Congressional district in California.)
Iman @ 8:10
Not again!
Curious (not) and notable is the absence of MSM pieces decrying "price gouging" by gas retailers.
Because rising gas prices is a good thing for Dems.
A search for "ice shove" (this year's "bomb cyclone" or "derecho"?) reveals January's massive human-high ice shoves from Lake Winnebago. You can't be too far away. Plan a trip there when the ice is shoving.
Aldaily.com gives a heads-up from chronicle.com: "Dean's List" by Michael Orey.
"The Spokesperson for NYU Law Wrote a Novel Skewering Law Schools"
Ronald J PsychoWard- I thought you had rage-quit your troll account after the Mirabelli v. Bonta and schools could no longer hide their grooming of minors from parents.
I miss ice. Police officers in NYC, likely not so much.
Sad to say, but even sadder to witness, Rusty!
