That's Meade's photo, taken at sunrise. I wasn't there today. I slept until almost 7. Very strange for me! And now there's a blizzard warning:
So I'm not picturing us getting out there tomorrow morning. We shall see. My side of the bet is there will be no more than 10" of snow. It's the wind that makes it a blizzard, and 40 to 45 mph is a lot of wind. Still, that scary-sounding warning has me winning the bet. It says 5 to 10 inches of snow. A few days ago, they were saying 3 feet of snow.

Snowstorm Sunrise for Meade.
Storm front about an hour away. 12 to 15 F temperature drop as it passes with an overnight low of 35. Next Sunday’s high is forecasted as 90.
I'm sorry I'm not there to see it.
<a href="https://mail.yahoo.com/m/folders/1/messages/AAEt4473j5Skvq0WezrcnWajc6i?.src=ym&reason=mobile”>War and Oil</a> One tidbit: he runup has been sharp. But it is still less than the runup following the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The futures market sees a relatively swift return to about $65.
In my experience, large snowfall predictions always fizzle. The actual large ones are a surprise.

Sort of reminds one of Casey Stengel's famous remark about the Mets: "Doesn't anyone here know how to play the game?"
I heard from my sister, who lives in a small town on the Illinois - Indiana border, that her town is being hit hard and she received word from her village to take cover, She’s in a safe corner of her basement. Rain is heavy and wind is terrible but she still has power.

You are right.
You are just too stupid to know who that is. It is fun to watch your globalist masters stamp their little feet and cry. China is going to be paying market prices for oil soon.
You globalist losers can get fucked. You are losing Cuba too. The people of Cuba are kicking you out of there too.

If you're implying their forecast was wrong, you would be in error. You see, it depends on "the track of the storm" … {waves hands}
So here is the story appearing from murky sources, maybe in Iran, that in my opinion, plausibly explains why Trump blundered into this war.
When he ordered the murder of Soleimani, it was because his second in command, and immediate replacement, had been turned by Mossad, and by killing him, Israel had a mole at the head of Iranian counterintelligence.
Now this mole set up several assassinations of key figures, in Hezbollah, Republican Guard, etc, and he always seemed to show up at the "wedding" a little late, or left a little early, before the bang.
After a while, he came under suspicion, but he reported directly to the Supreme Leader, and the Supreme Leader trusted him implicitly, and so he was under the SL's protection.
Well he notified the Israelis of the meeting where the Supreme Leader was killed, and as usual in these things, he was late, and bang!
So Trump and Netanyahu figured that with all of the senior leadership dead, their guy would take over, and we would be running Iran, take control of their oil, and Trump could show up at his scheduled meeting with Xi with control of a significant portion of China's oil in his pocket.
Except... our guy's protection died with the SL, and he was immediately arrested, probably he is in some dungeon right now undergoing the kinds of interrogation that SAVAK and the Mossad used to do for the Shah, and Mossad's networks in Iran got all rolled up, and the takeover of Iran that we had planned never happened, and this whole shit show started to unroll.
It was a stupid gamble, and we are all going to pay the price of it, but it wasn't completely moronic, as in having zero chance of success, but it was a huge risk, and we lost, but this is maybe why Trump thought that Iran would fall like a house of cards.
How Athenian of Trump! Has anyone in the Trump entourage read "History of the Peloponnesian War?"
It's almost as though when Trump started this war against Iran, that he didn't actually think through what was most likely to happen next..
The radar picture sure makes it look like the worst of the precipitation is coming as rain or freezing rain, ahead of the plunging temperatures, unless you're really far north. Hope all make it through with a minimum of disruption.

One of the rare times where we seem to have gotten hit as expected. I thought I’d walk down our driveway to the main road this afternoon and didn’t get very far. Snow was above my knees. Way too much of an awkward slog and highly likely I’d fall a couple of times just losing balance. We are in a pause for a few hours and then it’ll start up again. The county is pretty much shut down. Got a couple of great videos of brave birds on the feeder being whipped around in the wind (woodpecker and a female cardinal).

Trump destroyed the Bush dynasty with three words - Low Energy Jeb. He went on to destroy the Clinton dynasty. But you guys keep stepping on that rake expecting to get a different result. At least you're entertaining. SMH.
I don't know what Trump's intentions are regarding asking other countries to offer naval units. From my view, the countries asked are the ones that will benefit most from opening up the straits and they should damn well step up.
Iran is now saying all vessels except those from the US and Israel can transit the strait. That would appear to solve the problem (since we don't need their oil). I imagine the holdup is; who trusts Iran?
Besides Tim, that is.
“ Iran is now saying all vessels except those from the US and Israel can transit the strait. That would appear to solve the problem (since we don't need their oil).”
“As of mid-March 2026, reports indicate Iran is restricting the Strait of Hormuz to vessels associated with the US and Israel.”
Inga, do you think there's a difference between your quote and what I said? If so, please explain.
If it's not possible for the US to defeat the Iranian regime, it's better that we find out sooner than later. Things were not going to improve by themselves. And it's good to see those who hate the US and long for its destruction self identify. The internet is forever.
It would be helpful if the usual suspects who decry the moral, civic, and intellectual deficits of the current administration would identify by name the exemplars of wisdom who they believe to be preferable.
Kamala Harris anyone? Lloyd Austin?
I will never forget the blizzard of 1978, when I got caught in a near-zero-visibility storm on the South Beltway near West Towne about 2:00 PM on January 25 (I think), with 50 mph winds blowing straight into my windshield. I was headed to Airport Rd in Middleton, but the closest shelter, according to the radio, was the Middleton Fire Station. Once I made it to the West Beltline, I pulled off at Shorty's Motel, where I stayed two nights while my VW's steering thawed, and until the Airport Road was cleared. It was a thrill a minute watching a tiny black/white TV wrapped in a blanket and eating snacks from a nearby convenience store.
My kids were transported home from Cross Plains Elementary on a snowmobile.
Remember the 6 airmen who were aboard an AF tanker, and died when their plane went down? No surprise - it was Obama. His AF Secretary ordered the parachutes removed to save money. Apparently, they figured those parachutes cost jet fuel every time those planes flew. So, some functionary figured that they would save a couple bucks every time a tanker flew, and that money added up.
Our loony president, President Donald Trump, spent Sunday calling for the death penalty for reporters negatively covering his war in Iran.
Trump, 79, posted a nearly 400-word Truth Social post slamming Iran for “feeding” the “very appreciative Fake News Media” in the U.S. and even resorting to AI to spread “false information.”
So he admits the negative news was produced by AI and distributed by Iran, but he first threatened American news reporters with death.

“It is false that President Barack Obama ordered parachutes to be removed from Air Force refueling tanker planes.
The decision to remove parachutes from KC-135 Stratotankers was made by the U.S. Air Force in 2008, before Barack Obama took office.”
Inga, what was the point of your 11:41pm post?
“Iran has said the strait is open to all except the United States and its allies.”
Fortune
Well, now you're changing the quote. You posted: "“As of mid-March 2026, reports indicate Iran is restricting the Strait of Hormuz to vessels associated with the US and Israel.”
Be that as it may, what point are you making?
Do you have a point?
OM, are you being purposefully dense? My point is you claimed all other countries besides Israel and the US are being allowed passage through the strait. That is not true, countries associated (their allies) are not automatically given passage.
“Iran has largely closed the Strait of Hormuz to America and its allies, but the president’s earlier call for more naval reinforcements has gained little traction.”
NYT
Ahh, your 11:41 post says US and Israel. Go back and read it.
And "I" didn't claim it. I carefully said "Iran is now saying all vessels except those from the US and Israel can transit the strait."
“As of mid-March 2026, reports indicate Iran is restricting the Strait of Hormuz to vessels associated with the US and Israel.”

I'm sure that the fault lies with the journOlister who wrote the article, but what Inga posted actually says exactly the opposite of what OM wrote. Restricting the Straits to vessels from the USA and Israel means that only USA and Israeli vessels would have passage granted. Same as saying "This product is restricted to users 18 years or older" means that only those 18 or over can use it, not that everyone under 18 is allowed.
Sloppy grammar and poor editorial supervision leads to confusion and conflict.

It was noted the legislators themselves are exempt from portions of the law. Protesters passed out free 30 round magazines at the rally.
"but what Inga posted actually says exactly the opposite of what OM wrote."
Yeah, I know, but I was giving her a pass on that. She clearly didn't mean what she wrote. Inga's posts are frequently ambiguous, I believe intentionally so. I was trying to determine what her point was.
My son and DIL want to move back to Colorado and want to drag us with them. I told them unequivocally no chance. Not with the current Commies running … er …. ruining the show. Like California, they are destroying a beautiful state.
That ice shove looks suspiciously like a turtle on top of a fence post. Are those ice blocks large enough to be lifted by two full-grown humans? The little block on the very top looks especially suspicious.
I can't attest to when the parachutes were removed, but as a boom operator on the A-model KC-135, I remember having them for the 8 years I flew on them. Memory is fuzzy as to how many we had, but I seem to remember 6 for the normal crew of 4? In any case, if we had more crew than available chutes on any given flight, nobody was to use them. That was because there was no fair way to determine who got one and who didn't. Fortunately, that situation never actually arose in real life.
Whatever happened to the Trump protesters? The ‘no kings’ crowd is a no-show for Iran. Something is up behind the scenes.
For me the matter is quite simple. My daughter-in-law is a scientist working for the federal government and she, my son, and the world’s prettiest and smartest and all around best three year old granddaughter live inside the DC Beltway. If Iran and its mad mullahs acquired nuclear bombs one would certainly be detonated in Washington, DC, and it is unlikely that they’d survive. Anything Trump wants to do to forestall this possibility is fine by me. Anyone interested in doxxing the Althouse pro-Iran trulls, I am interested in your results.
Is that Inga reduced to spamming for bucks?

The attempt at by someone 08:09 to post an html link is a good, visible in this case, example of why such attempts fail: the http string is surrounded not by two straight quotes ("), but by a straight quote (") at the beginning and a curly-quote (”) at the end. It must be straight quotes all around.
"It must be straight quotes all around."
Or no quotes, at least in iOS Safari.

This is stupid fever dream bullshit.
Trump isn't blundering into anything. Trump and the people around him looked at the world and said "this is bullshit."
There was a globalist oligarchy manipulating governments through graft and destroying national sovereignty. They used drug gangs and criminality and the financial system and the standard corruption of politicians to create a world where globalists kept all of the money and power.
Trump is shitting on all of that right now. The plan is obvious to anyone who cares to look.
If you are too stupid to see what Trump is doing it doesn't really matter anyways.
@Original Mike: All potentially effective. Fire extinguisher, crash axe also viable.

No quotes works until there happens to be character(s) in the http string disallowed by html.
Single (') rather than double (") quotes also work to bracket the http string, as long as you're consistent.
As the number of people not worth reading grows, and certain ones never stop posting (how many times have you seen a comment thread with 15 posts and 10 of them are rants from Jaq?) the comments as a whole are becoming unpleasant, bordering on unreadable.
A real shame.

I forgot to make a comment yesterday. Hmm…
I just created an agent harness this weekend that automates the entire project lifecycle. I have a web app interface that lets me manage it through my phone.
We built it this weekend. I would have had to hire several full stack engineers to get this done in a month.
I say "We" because the agents I spawned to do it were so much better at writing web app code than I am. I am not a front or back end web developer. I do hardware simulation.
They are gods at bug detection and fixing. Absolute gods. This makes writing code a lot of fun.
But it also makes me completely obsolete at my job. My manager with proper intent and context building and validation practice would replace entire teams with spawned agents that don't complain eat or go to sleep and they are way better and "just coding" than we are.
Let's all shit on Peter Dinklage!
Achilles copes with: "Trump isn't blundering into anything. Trump and the people around him looked at the world and said "this is bullshit."
Wasn’t there story about a boy who cried wolf that explained cause and effect of actions and the concept of credibility.
Why wouldn’t Europe and China just cut their own deals with Tehran for safe passage? It’s not like they can trust Trump one bit.
International alliances ultimately run on credibility and predictability.
You can negotiate with an adversary you dislike if you understand their incentives. But it’s hard to make durable agreements with a wild horse that’s wandered into a hospital — not because the horse may or may not be malicious, but because neither you nor the horse knows what it will do next.
That’s the real danger of constantly shifting rationales or abandoning agreements. Allies and trading partners eventually start protecting themselves by making their own arrangements.
Test.
they wanted net zero, they are gonna get it,
they could start drilling in the North Sea again, (thats crazy talk)
What the libtards and antiwar zealots don’t want you-to know is that the war is going better than the Trump Admin expected. The Iranians have shot off most of their missiles. A graph of their missile launches looks like it’s a rapidly decaying exponential curve. By the time that they threatened to mine the Straights, most of the small patrol boats they were planning to use had been taken out, along will all of their ships not in port somewhere. IRGC can’t pay their people, and are being killed on sight in many parts of the country. It’s to the point that not only are their barracks being bombed, but also their quickly declining number of roadblocks. I think that they will break in the next week or two. The Kurds are in full rebellion and the Iranians have nothing to stop them. Tho days ago, Kharg Island was surgically disabled, eliminating Iranian oil exports. Oh, and their replacement Supreme Leader is apparently in a coma, missing a leg. There was a story that they were trying to smuggle him to Moscow.
Things are so bad that the ChiComs recently sent a ship destined for Iran with replacement arms, esp their missiles. As if the US isn’t tracking the ship in realtime, even if/when they turn off its transponder. It has no real place to unload its contents, and is likely to be seized by the US before they get there anyway. I expect that the ship will be held until the end of the war, then sent back to China. And, notably, these arms are coming out of China’s military stocks, furthering the drawdown there from the other arms sent to Iran in recent months.
No wonder China appears to be stepping back from invading Taiwan. Not only have they sent a lot of their newer stuff to Iran, but it mostly doesn’t work against the US military. All sorts of problems have turned up. For example, their supersonic anti-ship missiles apparently are incapable of mid course correction, they also don’t have working (against the US) data links. That might work against oil tankers, but doesn’t against carrier battle groups that can change direction, and steam away at >30 knots, when the launches are detected. In short, US weapons systems work, and we now know that Chinese ones very often don’t.
“ This morning my weather app is showing 16" of snow in Madison in the last 24 hours, with another 3-4" today. I'd say that Althouse has lost her bet.”
This morning my weather app is showing 0" of snow in Phoenix in the last 24 hours, with another 0" today. Or any moisture either. 78° now, topping out at 90° by 2 pm.
Next... let us think about Panama and its canal; Suez canal in Egypt, the Straits of Singapore / Malacca.
These bottlenecks have long been known about and concerned statesmen for centuries. It is why Britain occupied Gibraltar in 1704 in the War of Spanish Succession. If Britain / Spain / Morocco went rogue that would threaten access to the Mediterranean.
Whole conferences were spent in the 19th century agreeing access to the Baltic and the Black Sea, notably in 1857 in Copenhagen and 1878 in Berlin. That is why a rules based international order is so important. Throw away that principle of international co-operation and you are left with the law of the jungle,
Re: China
US geopolitical preeminence based on the projection of hard military power in the eastern hemisphere is deteriorating by the day. A reshuffling of world leadership is likely to follow.
China has an increasing opportunity to reshape global perceptions about which country is the preeminent world leader by advancing ideas to bring peace to deeply troubled areas, outcomes very much desired by almost the entire world community. China can put US desires for peace and a more secure world order to a real and credible test.
At a summit, China can offer to use its diplomatic influence to both achieve a ceasefire in Ukraine and in the Persian Gulf if the US and Israel agree to create a Palestinian state in the West Bank-Gaza and to stabilize the situation in Lebanon. Only China can credibly put forward such linkage. (Putin has to listen to China, the only country with leverage over Russia. China has influence with all the Middle East countries except Israel.)
China can make constructive proposals in a bilateral summit with the US and then further offer to sponsor a debate in the UN Security Council to advance a peace process along the lines of UN Security Council Resolution 242.
The coming weeks and months could be one of the most fruitful times for improving global stability and peace in this century. The world will be watching.
