I'm not judging these stories to be inconsequential. I just have nothing to add, nothing that fits my approach to blogging anyway. I like them as items to list. The list signifies that I feel some pressure. They're nagging at me. But I'm resisting. Feel free to talk about them in the comments. They're actually all good topics. I'm just not feeling the value of my own yammering on them. Maybe you think I've already said too much, what with that one word.
The oldest appearance of the word is an entry in the 1926 "Wise-crack Dictionary": "Gimmick, device used for making a fair game crooked."

Bridge Owner Donated $1 Million to MAGA Group Before Trump Blasted Competitor ~ NYT
"Less than a month after the billionaire owners of the Ambassador Bridge donated $1mn to a Super Pac supporting Donald Trump, the president threatened to shut down a rival bridge that also connects Canada to the US."
Worth noting that the sole link between Detroit and Ontario right now is the privately-owned Ambassador Bridge. The family that owns the bridge are major Trump/Republican donors. Everything that this administration does just reeks of financial corruption.
I'm sure that Trump would be willing to work out some "deal" involving his own family business interests and the Canadian government, while simultaneously stealing from the people of Michigan. Fortunately, I suspect Carney will say "no" to any such proposal. The 2026 mid-terms can't come fast enough.
Iran is the only one of consequence. The rest have very short shelf lives.

Here’s what happened:
Danish coast guard evacuated a sick sailor from a US sub to Nuuk. He is being treated in Greenland (by its free healthcare system).
In Grandpa’s dementia ridden mind this is something that only the fantastic Governor of Louisiana can fix with a boat. After all, Louisianians have great experience with arctic conditions.

Rice, an Obama surrogate, threatening revenge and retribution against businesses that conformed to Trump's agenda (e.g. end DEI) is a huuuge story. Note: she sits on the Netflix BOD, the same Netflix that gave the Obamas a >$50m "production" deal. Netflix will never see a dime from me, and I hope their aquisition ambitions fail.

On Mamdani—it’s because he’s not calling for volunteers, he’s calling for short-term employees. They’ll be paid relatively exorbitantly, will have to file taxes for their snow-shoveling income, and an administrative apparatus will swing into action to manage all the paperwork.

Now would be a good time for elected Democrats to disassociate themselves from Susan Rice's revanchisme. They won't, of course. The base wants the show trials and ambitious backbenchers are only too willing to provide them.
I wouldn't assume corruption in the Detroit-Windsor Bridge matter, given our ongoing war with Canada. The pleasure of tweaking the moose's nose or pulling its tail outweighs any merely financial benefit. The same goes for Canadians poking the eagle.

That's the real logical base of that saying, it's like "All the news that's fit to print" really means, if you expand it out like an algebraic equation to its logical base is really "All the news we see fit to print."
Iran knows that if they give up nukes, which they are willing to do, BTW, and missiles, and allies in the region, that they will be destroyed by Israel the minute they are vulnerable, because it will never be enough as long as they exist. Just like Russia thought that they could be our friend if they gave up communism and dissolved the Soviet Empire.
Iran knows that there is only one way they have a fighting chance, and that is to fight now. Witkoff is somehow forgetting all of the lies the US has told, all the promises that we went back on the moment we got the advantage that we made the promise to get.
If Iran capitulates, in Witkoff's words, by giving up all of its sovereign defenses, or China and Russia allow it to fall, they will deserve what is coming to them.
The neocons see reasonableness as weakness and restraint as a reason to attack, just like another leader we all remember from about 80 or 90 years ago.

Also seems like a weird thing for someone on the board of a company (Netflix) engaged in a tricky merger. If I were a stockholder I would not be happy.
