I just got back from a week in Waikiki. I was blessed with good weather, and it was a glorious departure from February in Michigan. I'd get up at 8:00 in the morning and swim in the ocean for an hour everyday. I really like Hawaii and Hawaiians. They like to sing, drink, eat bacon. The problem is that roughly 30% of the math questions require at least basic reading ability. I remember getting more than one math question wrong because I misread the question. Then there’s the word problems. (They call them something else now).

I would, too. From what I've seen people are pointing to claims Newsom had to go through remedial reading classes which probably are substantiated, or at least attested to by others. Be careful when comparing recent SAT scores to those from decades ago. When Newsom was young, people with non-technical career plans sometimes went in cold with little consideration of the consequences. Colleges with large legacy populations (e.g., Ivy League) didn't care that much either.

Coaching is now common, and cheating has been documented, over the last 20 to 30 years. All you needed was to know which test form was in use.
