So, the Epstein list fallout continues. Two more scalps added today. Peter Attia, a CBS television expert physician / talking head has left this position, and a former Prime Minister of Norway, Thorbjørn Jagland, has apparently attempted suicide. He also headed the Nobel committee that awarded a Nobel Prize to Barack Obama.
And today as I read Jeff Childer's post in Coffee & Covid (a good read), I see that he notes that no prominent Americans have been named yet as investigative targets. He thinks that the groundwork is possibly being laid to make this digestible to the public opinion maw, as the process cascades from 'unthinkable' to 'popular'. Just in time for midterms, wot.
And what will voters think of Progressive Democrats latest gimmick? A few years ago it was Nancy Pelosi making suck-on-a-lemon faces and then vengefully ripping up her copy, up on the dais. This year, it'll be empty seats, as Progressive Democrats refuse the decorum of attending the SOTU address, preferring to launch a counter-protest somewhere outside.
How will the constituents react, when they've elected people to represent their interests in the Capitol, only to have them refuse to be present as their representative, in such an important occasion? They're spitting out the binky instead.
I don't understand Progressive Democrats - maybe they can chime in here to explain how / why they would support this as meaningful. I know I wouldn't be respecting my elected rep's if they had done this for Old Joe, no matter how much I didn't care for him. I would expect them to do their job since they're going to retire rich (*spits*).

Wow. I guess it was unacceptable to get Huckabee to let the truth slip out that he thought that Israel should take the whole Middle East, or bring up Huckabee's long efforts to get a spy who sold the US out to the Soviets through Israel out of jail, when he had been rightly serviing a life sentence.
It's unacceptable to question Israel, and we should be putting our soldiers in harm's way, risking a regional war that could end up costing us trillions, because Israel wants us to, and it will further the vision that Huckabee let slip under Carlson questioning.

The Epstein files prove something I've believed for a long time: every person you know, every single one, has probably done at least ONE shocking/offensive thing (or said ONE thing) that would make you go "HUH you did/said WHAT?" Even those you respect the most. Jesus had it right: we are all sinners. I say that as an atheist.
Hilarious that the Dems are trying to sell the "Trump is senile" canard. They have fallen into the trap of reactionary politics. It fores them to endorse whatever is the opposite of Trump's policies. They are allowing their opponents to define them.
Dem's fell for the same old SOTU standup trick. It must be that they fear their rabid base, more than being made to look like fools on prime time. Being made to look foolish on prime time is not a good look to the young. Maybe they believe the young aren't watching.
@Limited blogger, I'm not watching her "rebuttal." Did Spanberger explain why the first thing she and her Democrat legislators did after taking the reins of Virginia's government was raise taxes -- despite receiving a budget surplus from her Republican predecessor?

Interesting take. Poll of persons "love of country" more or less. Conservatives/Republicans havent changed since 2000, Liberals/Democrats have become - disillusioned? Among many other things this support my contention that your political problems are a mass-phenomenon composed of abnormal psychology, antidepressive medication, and group dynamics, among huge groups. Young white women are notable here. As so many have noted. Andreesen is prominent here, much of this hostile attitude is propagated in higher education. This alone makes higher education a social danger zone, a point of failure. Electing this or that politician wont help in turning whatever mental switches so many millions of deluded minds need resetting.
And it is not, at least not initially, TDS. Not that hasnt had its effect, but the phenomenon long pre-exists Trump's political emergence - refer to the chart. Indeed Trump can be seen as an effect or reaction to the phenomenon. Andreesens observation also pre-exists Trump.
People are not satisfied with having nice lives with happy families anymore. If they don’t have a billion dollars they have been cheated. They don’t stop to think that if everyone had a billion dollars they would be exactly the same as they are today.
What they want is for everyone to have more than everyone else, which violates some important physical constraints.
It is an existing, and improving, system. The problem with COBOL isn't the language, it is that business software is part of a much larger system. Business systems are complex and need to be both efficient and safe. That is the context problem. The software was also written long ago and design documentation is either missing or incomplete. That documentation, and tests, are essential for translating/refactoring complex systems, both for humans and AI.
"The US problem, in a nutshell, isnt leadership as such, but millions upon millions of broken minds." Yeah, we call that the Public School System. Handing your children over to blue-haired sexual perverts with multiple piercings. I guess it's marginally better than handing them over to Muslim rape gangs.
Ex Libris, Frederick Wiseman's doc about the NY Public Library wasn't very entertaining. It did a lot to confirm the impression that libraries are boring -- and woke -- as well as the impression that documentaries are boring and woke. Cinema vérité isn't the big draw that it once was. Maybe I should have watched the big speech.
"chuck said... @Jupiter It is an existing, and improving, system." Oh, spare me. I learned COBOL around 1974, and I spent decades writing and maintaining COBOL programs. It's got nothing to do with COBOL as such. Look, drop me a line when you have handed over your retirement account to some AI "agent". Makes perfect sense, right? Your agent can monitor financial events with a microsecond time horizon, and recognize the implications of those events much faster than you possibly could. Don't wait, do it today. And be sure to ask your agent to also buy you a folding plastic chair from Amazon, while you still have a penny to your name. Because you're going to need it, when you're sitting by the freeway offramp with a "WILL WORK FOR FOOD" sign around your neck.
Look, ask yourself, how smart does an AI agent have to be, so that no AI agent can out-smart it? Answer; smarter than yours.
Something has happened to Mark Levin - he's now gone full wacko bird. I used to like him years ago - a little bombastic and over the top, but smart and full of energy. And a conservative.
Now, he's in some weird strange place. Attacking Tucker Carlson and everyone else who doesn't support netenyahu and Israel 100 percent. He's like the looney in Congress who's calling Muslims "Dogs".
Latest Levin comment on Tucker: "The bastard Tucker Carlson is an evil traitor. He’s stabbing the president in the back to foreign countries and undermining our country and our military... Tucker Carlson is betraying we, the people!"
I suppose Levin hates Tucker for exposing Huckabee (aka the Huckster) as a bought and paid for agent of AIPAC. And for being against any attack on Iran.
No doubt that's bad for Israel. And thats Levin number one priority. Not the well-being of the USA or advancing conservativism. Yet people listen to him. Crazy.
Handing over my retirement account to an AI agent will happen when hell freezes over. Maybe it can improve my returns a few tenths of a precent right up until the point it puts me 100% in lollypop futures.
Vance: As usual, Tucker hasn't checked his facts, but neither have you. Tucker doesn't mention the word "slave" about either Qatar or Israel. While he is correct that there are more Christians in Qatar than in Israel because Qataris import them to work as temporary labor, Israeli Christians are mostly full-time citizens of the Jewish state. Palestinians residing inside Israeli borders are second-class citizens in the apartheid state.
I have a perhaps rare perspective on Israel and its minorities. As it happens, Israel also has a considerable number of guest workers, a large number from the Philippines, who are nearly all Catholic. The Philippines sends millions of overseas workers, so many that they make up the majority of the skilled workforce of Saudi Arabia/the Gulf. Nobody is a "slave", except in the occasional egregious cases, which become prominent stories in the Philippine media, which is just as sensitive to cases of "they done us wrong" as you can imagine. Philippine consulates are very sensitive to these things as they are very likely to become political issues back home. Granted, there are the common cases of being treated with entirely legal disrespect/callousness, for which Arab employers have a reputation. Israel is a highly desired destination for Philippine overseas contract workers. They are much better treated there than in the usual Arab countries. Filipinos at least are not "second class citizens", well, they are not citizens at all, but they are generally treated with kindness and humanity.
Six Filipino OFW's were killed in the Hamas attack in 2023. And one Filipino reservist in the IDF (born in Israel to Filipino OFW parents) was killed in the subseqient Gaza operations.
Overseas workers (OFWs in Philippine parlance) are a very sensitive subject in the country. They are held in high esteem, they have an aura of heroic virtue, almost. Pesident Dutertes downfall began when the police were accused of killing the sons of two OFWs. That immediately stopped the killing spree of alleged drug dealers, and turned the population against the murderous policy. Duterte is currently on trial in the ICC in Brussels. Just to illustrate the sensitivities re OFWs.
Dan O'Donnell @DanODonnellShow · In 250 years of this great nation's glorious history, there have never been truer, more profound words ever spoken than Trump pointing to the Democrats and saying "These people are crazy."
Businesses are still using COBOL and it’s kind of a programming backwater, but it is a large consulting market, but any program that moves around money, which is what it’s designed for…
Could be worse though, the military is looking at Grok to run weapons systems, not just weapons, but whole systems.
"What Soviet communism wanted was for everyone to have nothing, equally."
They were big on keeping people from thinking "unacceptable thoughts" too. Unless Tucker was doing child porn or advocating human slavery, I kind of doubt that he went any further than questioning the orthodoxy of "Christian Zionism," TBH.
I would be interested to know which foreign governments have paid the US any tariffs. That cost falls squarely on US importers and consumers.
I tuned in the first few minutes of his performance, saw that it would be the same old same old Trump, and went to bed. I have a feeling many millions of others did so, too. No fun to be ordered to applaud.

No doubt that's bad for Israel. And thats Levin number one priority. Not the well-being of the USA or advancing conservativism. Yet people listen to him. Crazy.
RCOcean is here to defend Iran and anyone else who will pile up as many dead Jews as possible.
Hey, do you also support Tuckers claim that a Christian slave in Qatar is better off than a Christian in Israel who is a full voting citizen?
GREAT
Handing over my retirement account to an AI agent will happen when hell freezes over. Maybe it can improve my returns a few tenths of a precent right up until the point it puts me 100% in lollypop futures.
Vance: As usual, Tucker hasn't checked his facts, but neither have you. Tucker doesn't mention the word "slave" about either Qatar or Israel. While he is correct that there are more Christians in Qatar than in Israel because Qataris
import them to work as temporary labor, Israeli Christians are mostly full-time citizens of the Jewish state.
Israel has a similar controversy re birthright citizenship as does the US. This has been inconsistently applied to Filipinos in Israel.

In 250 years of this great nation's glorious history, there have never been truer, more profound words ever spoken than Trump pointing to the Democrats and saying "These people are crazy."

Businesses are still using COBOL and it’s kind of a programming backwater, but it is a large consulting market, but any program that moves around money, which is what it’s designed for…
Could be worse though, the military is looking at Grok to run weapons systems, not just weapons, but whole systems.
When the CNN crazies have to admit it was a great night for Trump and bad for the other losers…
He should stop talking- outside of ‘go see the play and relax’, perhaps the worst political advice in US history…
I watched a little of Spanberger before going to bed last night, and all I could think was, "Poor Virginia! Always Winter, But Never Christmas!"
Foreign governments pay the tariffs?
I would be interested to know which foreign governments have paid the US any tariffs. That cost falls squarely on US importers and consumers.
I tuned in the first few minutes of his performance, saw that it would be the same old same old Trump, and went to bed. I have a feeling many millions of others did so, too. No fun to be ordered to applaud.
Much like the Senate confirmation process, the State of the Union has outlived its purpose.
'The center cannot hold' the worst are full of passionate intensity'
Much like the Senate confirmation process, the State of the Union has outlived its purpose.
Trump must have done okay then.
If outliving its purpose is guidance to get rid of something, why does Kak exist?
