I’m seeing lake and photo tags so I hope I can share that on the way back from Piggly Wiggly ten minutes ago there was a bald eagle on the access road from the lake and I took several photos of it. Majestic!!
I see them on a regular basis as there’s a nesting pair in a loblolly pine by the lake about five hundred yards from where I took the pics. He (or she) was standing on the side of the road only about 30 feet from me, and that’s the closest I’ve ever been to one.
I parked and watched it for a few minutes before it lit and captured a classic profile photo with its wings peaked above and its ginormous yellow talons hanging below. So damned cool…
Re: B of E’s sighting of a bald Eagle, I’ve seen two myself in the heavily industrialized Northeast.
Fun fact of the day. The “heavily populated” Boston DC corridor is only 15% to 20% developed according to official studies. This includes urban, industrial, commercial and suburban numbers.
Signature Verification is required where I vote in person. This last election the switched to those stupid touch pads where you can scribble anything and they will accept it. Mine was so bad I apologized for it and offered to redo it. They told me no need because it “resembled” my signature.
’Believe it or not, they can get annoying. Eagle screeching at 5 am.’
Such a horrible sound from such an impressive raptor. I see them frequently out on the water but they’re aloft, so gauging their size isn’t that easy. But they’re huge, and I was a little afraid this booger was gonna fly at my car and try to steal my banana pudding…
’I’ve seen two myself in the heavily industrialized Northeast.’
I believe they prefer fresh fish for their diet, but they will scavenge just about anything for food, so, unlike wood ducks, an industrialized area wouldn’t be dining prohibitive.
Yeah, when they fly in, with the sound of all the air they're moving, and land in a branch right over your head you're really impressed with their size. They are huge.
The worst is when the parents are trying to detach themselves from a juvenile, presumably so they can start a new family. Incessant screeching from the kid, day after day, all day long.
We see bald eagles all over the place here in center Mass. The last one I saw was last week flying very high above large suburban area adjacent to a long narrow Lake. At our swimming hole, there is a breeding pair that dominates the pond. They frequently Shadow boating fisherman looking for free handouts.
I used to see them rarely, as holes would open in the ice, and ducks would gather there, like wolves following the caribou, if you looked around, you might see an eagle, I even saw one take a run at the ducks as I was riding on the ferry. Of course a couple of decades ago, they were extremely rare.
But now, I was just at the beach and I saw one carrying a fish back from the ocean, and he was being harassed by a couple of ospreys, I have easily seen a dozen this year, between Vermont and Florida, without look that hard for them.
Well, seen one a dozen times. One landed in the neighbor's cottonwood, right near his flagpole, but I didn't have the right camera to frame the obvious picture.
They're ubiquitous here in the fox valley. The first mating pair was in a dead pine tree at Mooseheart.(look it up) For awhile cops had to direct traffic there were so many photographers.
’I had two eagles loudly jostling in a tree right above me. Suddenly, a fish fell out of the sky at my feet. They had been fighting over it. Mine now.’
Franklin observed that they’re of low moral character. lol
I would never adulterate Miss Emma’s famous banana pudding. Seriously! She’s 81 years old and makes it every Tuesday for the deli at the Pigg. Don’t get there late or you’ll miss out… :)

The air was so clear here in Florida, clear and frosty, and the moonrise at the beach was spectacular.

Bet you didn’t know that.
We have an eagle nest directly above our summer lake house. Constant interactions. Believe it or not, they can get annoying. Eagle screeching at 5 am.

I had two eagles loudly jostling in a tree right above me. Suddenly, a fish fell out of the sky at my feet. They had been fighting over it. Mine now.
"and try to steal my banana pudding . . ."
Have you tried adding rice?
But that would attract Somalis . . .

Yes, that's fine. Anything within the gentle nature mode.
"Anything within the gentle nature mode."
That's what I figured. If that was presumptuous, I apologize.

It's not a pretty sound, but I'd love to be able to stay asleep until 5 and then it's the perfect time to get out of bed.
Not if you're a night owl.
