It is a pipe dream that the totalitarian leftists will allow the republicans a victory for governor

rehajm said...

…another leftie own goal with the euro style election process. On the other hand it makes the frogs just as viable as their other choices…

rehajm said...

hah, they can just lawfare their preferred candidate into being…

So the Democrats are gonna rig another election to 'save democracy'.

Rocco said...

Now do ranked choice voting.

California is insane!

What's going to happen, according to the Sacramento Bee, is that Democratic groups will pick a Republican favorite and back them financially in the primary.

"Adam Schiff did it. Newsom did it."

It's hilarious to me that these guys are spending money on pro-Republican ads.

"They each spent more money elevating Republicans during the primary than the Republicans spent on themselves."

Wow.

Not to worry, if anyone knows how to clear the field for their preferred candidates, it’s Democratic elites.

The CA Dems can promise to burn down your community, rip out dams for the chi com back door big bucks, (green new deal is all chi com) and extract billions more from tax payers for the homeless problem that only grows larger as money is tossed at it (wink) , and the train to nowhere,
rage fuel for clustists giving the middle finger to Trump (the cultists biggest orgasm generator) and de-fund ICE and police and let crime and drugs flourish and chase businesses out and act like a radical communist Islamic supremacist thug and promise to punish you forever on your way out the door.
while it all mysteriously dies like portland.

Totalitarians do what they need to do to retain power. Up to and including murder.
People who spend their time hating Trump, and more than half the country, are not interested in elections.
They expect a coronation of the next leftist to continue on the path to the perfect society.
No where in history is there an example of people voting their way out of Marxism.

If I was a Republican party leader, half the budget would be given to Katie Porter to make sure a Republican candidate is running against her.

Whenever I read the term "Jungle Primary", I hear shrieking macaws, grunting apes, and tom-tom drums in the distance.

Youre not far wrong

Temujin said...

It would be hilarious, but that's why you have mail in ballots, ballot harvesting, long election cycles, unclear election end dates. There are many ways to win elections in blue states. They will not allow a Republican to win again there.

Saint Croix said...

In 2012, the Democrats split the vote in a House primary, and the district ended up with two Republican candidates.

Who blew up the California primary? Arnold Schwarzenegger!

"I'll be back."

Enigma said...

I fear (hope) that one of these days the partisan monkey business such as this or congressional district gerrymandering backfires in a spectacular way. It's the only way to stop it. But, they'll just "find" a bunch of mail in ballots and "fix" it.

There's no evidence that the kamikazi left is going to stop its "strategic" kamikazi dive. You don't know what you've got until its gone.

Peachy said...

Mail in voting and signature verification are all rules changes that are built for the purpose of installing permanent corrupt one party Neo-fascist progressive rule.

Don't forget ballot harvesting, which essentially legalizes voter fraud and disenfranchisement. We used to assume a margin of fraud of about 1% and we'd tell losers to suck it up. They can't steal it if it's not close. But under the current rules, we have no idea what the margin of fraud is. There may not even be one anymore. There may be no practical limit to how many votes can be manufactured.

wasn't it Wisconsin? back in 2020, that had more votes counted than the total number of registered voters?
didn't They claim, that that was "cool" because a MILLION people registered to vote AT THE POLLING Site?

TobyTucker said...

The Dems need to stage a "Thunderdome" event i.e. a cage match to the death. "To the death" to make sure any losers don't re- neg on their promise not to run. I'm thinking this will be resolved by them finding a compliant judge to declare the Republicans "ineligible" and remove them from the ballot.

If a Republican is actually elected, it will be much like the first Trump administration - he'll be nominally in charge but everybody else will be doing everything possible to make sure he accomplishes as little as possible.

I adore Scott Presler. He is so lovely. The left vile demonic democratic socialist commie left want to kill him.

Democrats will take steps, including changing the rules, to ensure that does not happen.

Heaven help California. It is threatened by the installation (via election) of competent government. That was ever supposed to happen.

In addition to the weather, one of CA's great advantages is how easily it could be split by an armored thrust. The Northern Jeffersonians would likely ally with us to crush the Southies and march on Sacramento. San Diego could be salvaged, but the denizens of LA and SFO shall be driven into the sea.

I will put my prediction right here- not only will there not be 2 GOP candidates standing in the general election but that there will be zero GOP candidates in November.

Bob Boyd said...

This is the near-term future for a lot people in California and everywhere.

From Jack Dorsy to employees:
today we're making one of the hardest decisions in the history of our company: we're reducing our organization by nearly half, from over 10,000 people to just under 6,000. that means over 4,000 of you are being asked to leave or entering into consultation...
we're not making this decision because we're in trouble. our business is strong...but something has changed. we're already seeing that the intelligence tools we’re creating...are enabling a new way of working which fundamentally changes what it means to build and run a company. and that's accelerating rapidly.

If the CA locals want to shift toward the center without admitting they've been insane, they'll nominate a strong Rep and weak Dem. This 'kinda' happens routinely in one-party-rule states. See the history of Mass, Maryland, and New Jersey governors, plus NYC mayors. The left doesn't want a Republican in the federal Senate, but allow logical in-state purges when they control the state legislatures.

Lazarus said...

Let's hope so, but you may get the "Infection Point," as in 2023 when everyone else got out of the race to make room for Biden. There could be another Porter or Swalwell scandal (or a job promise or a hefty contract for SteyerCo) to help push the superfluous Democrats out of the race.

Bob Boyd said...

Also in California,
If your child's school decides to socially transition your child and you don't cooperate and start using the required pronouns, etc, CPS can get involved and then the police. You could actually lose your child. Your child's teacher outranks you in California.
This is doubtless affecting the governors race. Reasons for capable productive people with options to leave in California are increasing.

Joe Bar said...

There's no way they end up with two Republicans after the primary. Hilton would be the best choice, but I seriously can't see him pulling it off.

J Scott said...

Even if it happened, California dems will just change the rules at the last moment.

James K said...

The Dems will make Becerra and Steyer offers they can't refuse. and CA will end up with a choice between Swalwell and Porter.

But don’t worry. Just as she did in 2020 Althouse will explain to us lower life forms why no one should investigate even the most obvious and egregious instances of fraud, for the sake of “our” (her) democracy.

While it is fun to consider a "hoist by your own petard" moment, I think we can count on late mail-ins and bundles to fix things.

So democrats will all fall in line with the democrat socialist tribe and drop out where needed. Idiotic republicans will not support the tribe and lose a governors seat.

Better question - Is either of the GOP front-runners worth a crap?

loudogblog said...

This won't happen. Even though some Democratic candidates refuse to follow the unwritten political rules, like Katie Porter who announced her senate run before Feinstein said that she wouldn't run again, the party will "persuade" some of the candidates to drop out for "the good of the party."

If Kentucky can have a Democratic governor then California can have a Republican governor and do just fine. But I’m pretty sure by May the Democrats at the bottom will drop out and put Porter or Swallwell at the top.

Actually, Harris won Massachusetts by a greater percentage - 61% to 36% for Trump - than she won California (58.5% to 38%). Also, she took Vermont with 63.8% of the vote, and Maryland with 62.6% of the vote.

They will, of course, get a Dem judge to declare that the "jungle" primary system (which the Dems put in place) is unconstitutional. This will be done just before the election.

California votes left, but it's a kind of different and cruel left.

The wealthy exploit environmental laws to block development and preserve property values. They don't want more traffic around their beach front estates. They function as wolves in sheep's clothing semi-conservatives that prioritize personal gain.

The utopian left (Greens, Hippies, Hollywood) vote with dreams and emotions, and have no connection to function or making the rubber meet the road. They love passing voter initiatives that cannot be funded or that backfire spectacularly. See the SF shoplifting debacle; see the public camping and pooping debacles.

The immigrant left votes for freebies and giveaways, but also bring along Latin American political expectations. Consider the extreme swings from dictators to wishful communism -- they seem unaware of how to make the rubber meet the road. No nuances, little strategy.

Before Trump, mostly sane "Business Democrats" kept a leash on the utopians. They capitualted to the extremists with TDS (see Diane Feinstein ~~~> Nancy Pelosi).

Republicans are a legacy afterthought, for the white Europeans who turned the state into a major powerhouse have died off, left, or compromised to keep their own.

According to my math, there is still about 25% unaccounted for even after including the "other." So, about a quarter of respondents are undecided, maybe?

Expect the Democrats to fall in line. Some will drop out, some will gather more support from the undecideds. A Democrat will win.
