Oh, no.

Now, I'm going to be mourning for days and days. The media is so overbooked with creeps and shitheads that when we lose someone of true talent and charm it really hurts. I'm going to cope by remembering and sharing.

Here's one of my favorites -- Who am I kidding? They're all favorites. Catherine O'Hara never leaden, always delightful. There's no choosing or ranking, whether she was riffing the perpetually dour Liv Ullmann or pranking the promiscuous Cookie Fleck.

Quaestor કહ્યું...

I love it when O'Hara as Stewardess Lilly can't stay in character as Willy Tobias, Junior (Eugene Levy) rips off her uniform. I can't stay in character (Quaestor the curmudgeon) either.

Quaestor કહ્યું...

Here's another. Slow as molasses, incomprehensible and deadly dull art films that you had to talk about over wine and cheese or be thought a hillbilly were never the same afterwards.

Loved it, loved her. That 3D glasses bit was pretty funny too, though it was a little slow starting, it certainly picked up when she showed up.

Jaq કહ્યું...

Showed up as one of the stewardesses, I guess I didn't make clear.

Quaestor કહ્યું...

A classic Cookie Fleck moment. They were all moments, eh, Cookie?

Her work for Tim Burton was amazing. Nightmare Before Christmas. Frankenweenie. Schitt’s Creek, of course.

Kevin!

RIP

Also all the mockumentaries she made. Best in Show is awesome.

Curious George કહ્યું...

Her SCTV stuff was so funny, especially when she played Margaret Meehan in the High Q Night School sketches, a spoof of the It's Academic show. Her buzzing in early, always a wrong answer, and Eugene Levy as Alex Trebel (haha) getting progressively angrier until he makes her cry. As good as it gets.

Well, this one kind of stopped me yesterday when I heard the news. Any loss of the SCTV family is a huge loss. Like so many, I've been watching Catherine O'Hara for years. She was so good in so many different types of roles. She had that huge smile that made us smile.
Outside of SCTV, my favorite role of hers is still her character "Cookie Fleck" in the movie "Best of Show". She and Eugene Levy were hilarious in that (as was the entire cast).
RIP to an understated, but consistently great comedic actress. Another of my gggggggeneration gone.

I read that her heart and organs were on the wrong side of her body. I feel like that’s a funny skit. Assassin tries to kill her. “You missed! My heart’s on the other side.”

Or a love scene.

“I just want to feel your beautiful heart.”

“Not even close, baby.”

Saint Croix કહ્યું...

Eugene Levy must be inconsolable.

The one negative I know of was she was on Saturday Night Live once in a Motor Voter hat. Ugh.

Yes, jump the weeds, Catherine O'Hara, or I will crush your head like a nut.

Catherine in a supporting role opposite Michael Caine. Waddaya mean, that's not bloody well Michael Caine? He said idnanit, didinney? Well, didinney?

yeah that was a time when Caine was taking too many bad scripts like Jaw 4, which bought him a nice house,

She was like a new and improved version of Carol Burnett. Slightly more subtle at the same time even farther out there
You could never not smile when seeing her on screen.

RCOCEAN II કહ્યું...

Sad. I didnt know it was possible to have your heart and other organs on the "wrong side". But there it is. And some people are never affected and others end up dying because of it.

And least she gave people some laughs, 71 seems so young.

RCOCEAN II કહ્યું...

Her as Hepburn - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uoatg0CJxtM

yeah there is certainly some of that, in her, I remember sctv like with dave allens show,

Tattycoram કહ્યું...

No mention of the films she made with Christopher Guest? I love them all, beginning with Waiting for Huffman, but I think she's best in A Mighty Wind. Well, on second thought, maybe in Best in Show. Well, on third thought, maybe . . .

Quaestor કહ્યું...

Who needs Katherine when you've got Catherine, I must say.

Quaestor કહ્યું...

Waiting for Huffman? Wasn't that Guffman? They're both consonants, I must say. The confusion is making me mental....

RCOCEAN II કહ્યું...

She was definitely not as talented as Carol Burnett. what a silly thing to say.

Waiting for Epstein

Bari Weiss is more Scarlett O'Hara than Catherine O'Hara, and she'd be home alone if not for turning CBS into SEC TV to aid a mighty windbag named DJT. But Bari's best in show can't save Donald from being up Schitt's creek if those Epstein docs get un-redacted.

For our consideration in November.

Quit spaming up every thread with your boring as fuck politics. I don't need someone repeating MSM talking points.

Not "Heatherington." Lola Heatherton. It was a cheap shot at Joey Heatherton, who was (and is) still alive. O'Hara was funny and talented, but should have changed the name.

tcrosse કહ્યું...

She decided to get into comedy when her brother was dating Gilda Radner, who introduced her to Second City. “Gilda would take me downtown and let me stay at her house, where I had pumpernickel toast with cream cheese and cucumbers, which I’d never had before. So exciting!”.

Unknown કહ્યું...

A truly unique talent. Always a pleasure to watch.

“For Your Consideration” was the Guest film that truly showcased her comedic talents, IMO.

She’s another shining light who will be missed.

I just found out that she played Bam Bam in Curb. She was very funny in that role which was quite different than the other things I've seen her in.

I asked ChatGPT why Catherine O'Hara died, got this response:

She didn’t. ❤️
Catherine O’Hara is alive.

If you saw something saying she died, it was almost certainly a mix-up.

Most of my favorite Catherine O'Hara moments are from her days at SCTV. One of the greats was the Brooke Shields Show, with O'Hara as Shields. Her singing of Devo's "Whip It" at the end in that big, floppy sundress is priceless.

Also, in a slightly more serious performance, for her role as Mickey of "Mitch & Mickey" in "A Mighty Wind", O'Hara learned to play autoharp. The performance of When You're Next to Me was not in the theatrical release of the movie, but was played over the closing credits. It was just too good of a song for a satire! In the performance, after O'Hara's solo on the autoharp, Eugene Levy shoots her a glance and she glances back at him as if to say "Wow! You sure pulled that off well!".

MacMacConnell કહ્યું...

She was always a delite. My favorite movie was "The Last of the High Kings".
