There was a 100% cloud cover this morning. And it was a full moon, the wolf moon, but we saw nothing of it.

Write about whatever you want in the comments.

It was a theme day on the blog today. Did you notice?

For the past 8 years here on Althouse Blog I have read how the evil Neocons and Rinos want us to go to war with other countries and engage in regime change and nation building. But guess what? That's exactly what Trump and MAGA are now doing. New boss, same as the old boss. We won't get fooled again.

Venezuela's vice president gave a defiant statement hours after Nicolás Maduro and his wife were captured, ascribing a "Zionist tint" to the action. She then hosted an emergency meeting of the Venezuela's National Defense Council alongside senior regime officials, in which she demanded the immediate release of Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores.

The NY Post reported that. Yes, she literally said Zionist tint.

This is the Spanish term for "racist."

The important thing to take away is that there is a Vice President that the US didn't nab and she's bold enough to start holding fucking meetings and shit and blaming everything on the Jews. Which is true, but kind of beside the point.

Trump needs to get Hegseth in there to bitch slap that whore and assure the Venezuelan people that there's a new sheriff in town and his name is Reggie Hammond.

But now that you have my attention:

Reuters, a communist news source of dubious reputation, reported that this whore fled the country for her dacha in some random Oblast. She hasn't. There are no aircraft flying in Venezuela as a quick check of FlightTracker24 will confirm.

She has made public appearances and issued statements on state television since these false claims were made by Reuters.

As for Clooney, I can’t really fault him for his reason to move to France.

“ The Clooneys — who hail from Lexington, Ky. and Beirut, Lebanon, respectively — bought an 18th-century estate in Provence, France in 2021. In an Esquire interview this October, the Oscar-winning actor and filmmaker described the French "farm" as their primary residence, a decision he said was made with their kids in mind.

"I was worried about raising our kids in LA, in the culture of Hollywood," Clooney said. "I felt like they were never going to get a fair shake at life.“

Earlier today one of our resident leftist dim bulbs, probably Freder or the kakistophage, was sneering at what we achieved in Venezuela and vowing that we could never do the same thing in Iran, because they have Russian air defense systems.

For his benefit, here is the Venezuelan air-defense order of battle that our forces erased from the planet in 88 minutes:

Venezuela had a Russian-supplied integrated system focused on protecting Caracas and strategic sites. This included long-range, medium-range, short-range, and point-defense systems, supplemented by anti-aircraft guns and fighter interceptors.

They had around 12 batteries of S-300VM (effective against aircraft, cruise missiles, and some ballistic threats up to 200–250 km. Medium-range: Buk-M2E (SA-17 Grizzly) systems, with 9–12 batteries up to 45–50 km. Medium/short-range: S-125 Pechora-2M with dozens of units for low-to-medium altitude threats. Short-range/point defense: Tor-M1/Tor-M2E (up to 10 systems in some reports) and possible Pantsir systems. They had 5,000 MANPADS Russian Igla-S for low-flying threats like helicopters and cruise missiles.
Anti-aircraft artillery: Over 400 pieces, including 200+ ZU-23-2 23mm twins and 114+ 40mm Bofors L/70 (some modernized).
Aerial component: Su-30MK2 Flanker fighters (around 20–21 operational) for interception, with limited F-16s (few airworthy due to maintenance issues).

So on a typical slow news Saturday...

I'm kind of surprised that none of the military involved in this little operation went to Senator Kelly beforehand to ask if Trump was giving illegal orders. I mean, with all the sturm and drang he created about this very issue, you'd think some of them would have second doubts about the orders, wouldn't you?

Apparently being an admiral doesn't mean you're read the UCMJ and Navy regs about using your title for political statements. Now for a clear example of violation of both: https://x.com/EileenforCO/status/2007567756208812343
So far all the statements I've so far seen from Senator Kelly don't seem to include his rank. He has some awareness that Captain Mark Kelly saying some of the things Senator Mark Kelly says would be going overboard.

On a more personal note the important thing I did today was getting heat back to my my son-in-law and daughter's family. Several years ago I obtained two very expensive circulator pumps for a few hours of labor- totally legit. They had two pumps they had no need for, and an unpleasant task they didn't want to do. And a week later I installed one for them because my son-in-law, not a mechanic in any way, shape, or form, had used lithium grease to lubricate the bearings on his oil lubricated pump... Quick advice- don't do that. Stopped working today. 25°F outside temp. Never used the 2nd pump, so brought it over and replaced it. They have starting capacitors. In over 50 years of replacing/repairing failed motors I've seen a lot starting capacitors that simply stopped working. After replacing the pump- only a 15 minute swap, I thought to look at the capacitor. I don't have a capacitor tester. Didn't need one. First time seeing it- the capacitor blew up. One end of the plastic cylinder was blown off. Told him to go online and find a replacement- and he'd have a perfectly functional spare pump on the shelf. For < $20.
