My unpopular opinion is that January 6th was good for the country. I was genuinely moved by Americans protesting the erosion of our democracy and an obviously stolen election. An election has to be auditable after the fact- this requires physical ballots that can be hand counted if necessary. Every ballot printed must have a unique identifying number from a sequential lot of numbers. All spoiled ballots must be accounted for through collection and warehousing. After the votes are tallied, the ballots must be retained and the ballots must be available for examination on-site with high resolution surveillance.
Voting should be done in person with a photo ID presented- that photo ID should be taken at the voter registration office where you present a birth certificate or citizenship documents to prove you are a legal voter- without those documents, you don't get to register to vote and no provisional voting at all. I think early voting is ok but all ballots are only counted after the polls close for the last time on Election Day night. Absentee voting should be limited to people who are outside the country during the period of in-person voting but those people must present a photo-ID to either pick up the absentee ballot and, better, to turn it in. People who are too infirm to get to either the polling stations or the local election office must make an appointment to have the ballot delivered in person and to have it picked up by representives of both major parties- no mailing of ballots at all.
I am flexible in how long it takes to count after the polls close but if it is going to take days to count our increasingly complex ballots by hand, then no results get posted until every jurisdiction has finished their first count.

Then you should have no problems at all proving the 2020 election was completely legitimate. Right? I have written repeatedly where I think the fraud occurred- mail-in-ballots with forged signatures. It is curious to me, at least, that attempts to sample the mail-in-ballot envelopes for post-election signature verification has been stymied at every level for 5 years. There is literally no valid and ethical reason to not allow such a study by multiple parties.

NONE of the endless accusations of a stolen election have been backed up with credible supporting evidence. NONE. When there’s no credible evidence that a thing happened, it’s irrational to insist that it must have because no one has produced proof that it didn’t.

NONE were credible. Trump and his tools (or fools, as the case may be) filed 86 separate lawsuits in multiple states alleging assorted election irregularities. EVERY CASE WAS EITHER DISMISSED FOR LACK OF MERIT, WITHDRAWN, OR RULED AGAINST AFTER BEING GIVEN A FULL HEARING IN COURT. Several then went on to appeals, where they also flopped.
Judges who handled the cases had been appointed by both republicans and democrats. Two of the judges were appointed by Trump himself.
Why? Because MAGA nuts, the Pillow nut, Rudy, and attorneys can stand in front of a camera or audience and spew those lies with abandon and walk away unscathed but you can’t do it to a judge in a court of law.

As for the court cases, few were litigated on the merits. And most lawyers realize the enormous difficulty in proving voting fraud, voting fraud that altered the outcome, voting fraud that overcomes the cowardice of judges faced with declaring an election void. Mostly, in forming an opinion one must look at the totality of the circumstances. This is not possible for Democrats.
Ronald, no one has been allowed to examine the mail-in-ballot signatures after the fact- some parties are still fighting to get to examine those- why, exactly, have election officials still fighting to prevent that? Sure, those signatures can no longer be connected to any single vote and thus can't be used to change any of the election results but they can be used to demonstrate whether or not mail-in-ballots are an open invitation to vote fraud. Explain to us why we can't examine those mail-in-ballot envelopes today.

But what gets left out is that Trump planted this seed and cultivated it his entire first term- that the only way he could lose in 2020 was if it was stolen from him and if so, his base shouldn’t let Democrats get away with it. The US Constitution gave the power to determine how elections are determined to state legislatures. Not the state executive branch. They conduct elections based on the laws passed by their legislatures. Nothing more.
But that wasn’t what happened in 2020. States inevitably have statutory requirements on, for example, what is required to get ballots counted. For example, there are requirements for mail in ballots. They typically require asking for them n advance, signature verification, etc. All that was, for example, thrown out the window, with the >300k illegally counted early voted ballots just found in a single county in GA. Under GA law, without those safeguards, it was illegal to count those ballots. And V illegal to count a larger pool of ballots, after those unverified ballots were separated from their provenance and opened. Yet, these ballots were counted anyway, despite GA statutes to the contrary.
Similar shenanigans have been verified in AZ in 2020 and by the same people in 2022(former Sec of state Katy Hobbs cheated her way to the governorship that year, and the MSM is currently hiding from the public the strong evidence of large Cartel payouts to her and her AG).
In both states, the proven or disclosed illegal counting of unconforming ballots exceeds the Dems’ margin of victory in those two states by several times, maybe even by an order of magnitude, in the 2020 election, for Biden/Harris as well as FOUR Senate seats. Yes, that means that the Dems stole the Presidency AND the Senate that year. (These were the two states with 2 Senate seats on the ballot due to early retirements, etc).
And lest you say that this illegal counting of early ballots in this GA county might not have made a difference - the early mail in voting was running better than 2:1in the Dems favor in that election, in states that allowed it.
Republicans learned that lesson in 2020 in AZ, and early voted by mail in 2022, just to have many of their n person ballots not counted, thanks to illegal modifications to the voting machines in Republican parts of Maricopa county that couldn’t count ballots due to an intentional mismatch between print and scan sizes for the ballots.

Bruce, that’s a very detailed narrative, but every specific claim you’re making—Georgia’s alleged 300,000 illegal ballots, Arizona’s audits, the printer issues, and the constitutional argument—was litigated, audited, and ruled on by state courts, federal courts, and Republican election officials at the time.
If evidence sufficient to overturn results actually existed, courts would have been legally required to act—especially where margins were close. They didn’t, including judges appointed by Trump himself.
At some point, the question becomes: what standard of proof would ever be enough to accept an outcome you don’t like? The answer is obviously that there is none nor can there be. Accepting evidence or reality, or at least admitting it out loud, would be a MAGA Cardinal sin, a disloyalty to the movement, possibly a banishment from cult.

Ronald. -those GA claims couldn’t have been litigated, because the facts weren’t known until last week. Very, very few of the election fraud cases ever made it to trial, and if they did, they didn’t have a full factual record. Couldn’t have, because everything underlying the fraud was intentionally hidden deeply by the officials committing the fraud. It’s coming out now, because it’s a priority with Trump. Most all of the 2020/21cases across the country were dismissed for jurisdictional, etc. And none of the rest of them had full access to the ballots and their provenance.
A name everyone here should keep in mind is Harmeet Dhillon. She is a Sikh Indian who is the US AAG for Civil Rights. She has already had an effect, with the number of Asians admitted to Ivy League schools no longer discriminating on the basis of race, etc, under the cover of Diversity, skyrocketing for next year, after she started working to cut off their federal funding.
But importantly to our discussion here, she can claim winning AZ last year for Trump. It was litigation by her law group that was central to keeping the AZ election fraud under control in the last election.
Well, having done so well in AZ in 2024, she has apparently been tasked with taking her anti-fraud campaign national. She recently added an election integrity branch to her Civil Rights division. Her election integrity branch hit the ground running, demanding voter lists from the various states. Not surprisingly, their subpoenas were refused by some 20 mostly Blue, and some Purple states. No surprise - many of them were probably in office do to the election fraud she is trying to expose and eliminate.
Bruce, you’re not arguing about 2020 anymore. You’re arguing that no institutional outcome can ever be trusted unless it confirms the belief.
Once that door opens, elections are optional, courts are irrelevant, and evidence is whatever arrives next week

At this point, the blatant 2020 election fraud is all moot, in legal terms. Nothing will change. Biden had his four, disastrous, years in office. Thus, moot now, from a legal point of view.
What we are going to get is at least a partial accounting of the election fraud that put Biden in office (and gave the Dems the Senate). Vindication for Trump and the J6 protesters.
But also for getting the legal apparatus in place for more integrity in the 2036 (maybe) and 2028 elections.
Oh, and your suggestion that courts act when they have enough evidence is ludicrous, in view of the out of control Dem nominated district court judges, with their LawFare antics over the last six months. Heck, the MD illegal, picked up for human trafficking and sent back home, is out of jail, making videos, despite having been federally indicted for human trafficking. Just by an activist judge, and his turning down over 20 different possible foreign deportation locations.

As we long knew, and that knowledge is finally coming out, those theories weren’t “crackpot”. The Dems really did steal the 2020 election. GA and AZ have already been fraudulently won by Biden. I expect more to come.
But loosely defined “violent” behavior doesn’t legally justify the use of Deadly Force by LEOs. Among other things, her death was violation of Due Process. Under federal law, to legally justify her death, the LEO (Lt Byrd) needed to reasonably fear for the death or great bodily injury of another officer or bystander. He couldn’t have been in such fear. Impossible. He was twice her size, and was surrounded by other officers (under his command) and there were other officers behind her. The window she was crawling through made sure that the 5 or 6 officers on the other side of it could easily have handled anyone crawling through, one by one, as they emerged from the broken out window.
Oh, and after his execution of Babbitt, and having been exonerated for it, by Pelosi and the Biden Administration, he was promoted. And now has a (probably illegal) daycare in VA.
