Grok's fact check: "The video in @cristiancrespoj's post shows people in Caracas apartment buildings celebrating with fireworks, cheers, and shouts of joy at dusk/night — exactly the kind of spontaneous, from-the-balconies reaction that exploded across social media and news reports right after the U.S. operation.... No credible reporting suggests the video is old, staged, or from unrelated events (e.g., past protests or unrelated fireworks). It aligns with the timeline and widespread reports of street/apartment-level jubilation following the news of the capture. This is a genuinely historic (and highly controversial) moment — the first direct U.S. military capture of a sitting Latin American head of state since the 1989 Panama invasion — so the celebratory footage is consistent with what was happening."¡A celebrar sin salir de las casas! I remember reports from Venezuela a few years ago of people eating the animals in zoos and Venezuelan women cutting off their hair to sell to wig-makers. With those levels of privation it would be expected that many there would blame Maduro.

Not just the poor, but the entitled rich ones now...
Lots of lower class white slaves here to serve them and provide the good life for the world's elites. They didn't sell out their country for peanuts you know
This is not the lower class of Venezuelan workers you see coming in. He'll even meade can sell that big one Cohen mansion and make a mint now... they could comfortably house 25 people in that place, or 2 or 3 extended families from one community...
Too personal? Just trying to nudge you to look ahead to neverending war's real impact on our country, ann. Netanyahu still in DC, right?

Comments on X on the second video showing armed men firing at vehicles, suggest that video might be old from 2024.

It's called "sanctions," it works by making a country poor, and then blaming the poverty on the uncooperative leader you want gone. Not to mention that any news you read is also filtered through these same people. Lots of people sell their hair right here in the good ole USA.

No its called socialism thats what mamdanis warm embrace is about
I have never been a fan of regime change and I think the follow-up is always a mess but … I trust Rubio more than my instincts so I guess I’m good with this.
“Boy, I’m still boiling about that tweet by Trump the day after Rob Reiner’s death … wait, what? He just arrested Maduro? What? Why didn’t anyone warn us that was coming?!”
My father is smiling. Today he is a Trump supporter.
On an associated comment - "please God, do Albo next" - some Aussie. Hope they don't stick the commenter in the lockup for this one.
Most upset will be the Obama crowd, especially his Leftie friends that helped him launch his Presidency -- bomb-makers Bernadette Dohrn and Bill Ayers. As Obama rose, they praised commie Maduro, who preceded this guy, for all the greatness the Commies were bringing to Venezuela.
Fascinating how slow and then fast things suddenly change.
May All Thrive Now.
(except for Lefties & ObamaBots)
Venezuela has gone from the richest country in South America to the poorest under the 20 years of socialist rule under Maduro and his predecessor, Chavez. Jaq, this impoverishment started way before the recent sanctions.
Sean Penn hardest hit.
Squatter removal is included in services available in the Year of Our Lord 2026.
It's been a great year so far!
Sure, "sanctions" caused the problem not the socialist regime of Chavez that robbed Venezuela blind before Maduro declared himself presidente. Somehow leftists trace every shithole's origin story to some act of America. If sanctions are so powerful a tool why is Russia still bullying its neighbors?
Jaq, your history is off. There was widespread socialist privation and misery under Chavez and Maduro for many years before any broad-based sanctions against Venezuela, as opposed to targeted actions like visa bans and asset freezes against individual Venezuelan government figures, or bans on sales of military weapons to the country.
Food shortages began in the mid-2000s under Chavez's price controls, and accelerated under Maduro, although people were not yet in peril of starving. Widespread hunger began in the 2011-2014 time frame, and the zoo animals were eaten in 2016. The first broad-based economic sanctions against Venezuela were not imposed until 2017 under Trump.
Yea, but...
As opposed to human rites where progress is celebrated in clinical convention.
I wonder how many people there are celebrating the end of sanctions rather than the loss of Maduro?
Trump stole their "warmth".
Until recently, we lived in Katy, TX, having moved there in 2016. There were so many Venezuelan expats there that the high school kids (including the Venezuelan ones, I am given to understand) called it "Katyzuela." These families got out ahead of the worst of things, a la the founding Cuban expats in Miami, but apparently they still had some stories to tell.
The big building in the top video looks like the place they kept Brodie in Homeland.
Jamie: So you caught the Katy. But did you at least leave a mule to ride? CC, JSM
Seems like a bad time to celebrate with fireworks.
Just saying.

That is silly. Socialists cause poverty and famine everywhere they take over.
There weren't any sanctions on food and it isn't like China cared about the sanctions anyways.
"Jaq, your history is off."
Jaq's history is always off. I never read a comment of his that was either enlightening, interesting, or even slightly jocular. It's all very ponderous, very derivative, and very sophomoric.
How has this freed Venezuela? Maduro's vice president is now in charge. All his inner circle are still there...
